Jacqueline K. Evans, 42

Jacqueline K. Evans, 42, of Moores Hill passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 2 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Milan with Father Frank Eckstein officiating. Burial will be in South Sparta Cemetery near Moores Hill.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home in Moores Hill. Rosary service will take place at 4:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to South Sparta Cemetery.

Elizabeth Ann Smith 94

Elizabeth Ann Smith 94 Greensburg, Indiana died on Sunday May 17, 2009 at Morning Breeze Nursing Home in Greensburg. Mrs. Smith was born January 24, 1915, in Washington Township, Decatur County, Indiana, the daughter of Arthur Carter and Mary (Robbins) Stewart. She attended Kingston grade school and graduated from Greensburg High School in 1933.

She attended Purdue University where she was a member of Pi Beta sorority and Mortar Board. She also served as president of the Women’s Student Government Association her senior year. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics/English/Science in 1938 and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1965.

Mrs. Smith taught at Thorntown High School and Sandusky High School. She retired from teaching in 1977 after 20 years as a kindergarten teacher a Rosemund Elementary School in Greensburg.

She was an active member of the first Presbyterian Church, Pi Beta Phi sorority, the associate Chapter of Tri Kappa, PEO sisterhood, Delta Kappa Gamma, Lois Chapter Eastern Star and the Decatur County Retired Teachers Association. She was also a charter member of the Decatur County Day Care Board where she served with great dedication until 2000.

Among the honors she received during her lifetime were the Greensburg Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award, the Carousel Daycare Kids Count Award, the Purdue University Hidden Diamond Award and an honorary life membership in the Women’s Association of the Presbyterian Church.

Elizabeth Ann married former Greensburg mayor Sheldon Smith on December 9, 1938. She is survived by sons Stewart Peter "Pete" Smith, Gilman Daryl (Ruthann) Smith both of Greensburg and daughter June Ann (Norman K.) Cook of Charlotte, North Carolina. Also surviving are her brother John A. Stewart and grandsons Peter Bradford Smith, Charles Grant Smith, Michael Stewart Smith, all of Greensburg, and Norman Lyle (Shirley) Cook of Charlotte, North Carolina, in addition to several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sheldon Smith, brother, Gilman C. Stewart, Sister Rachael Stump and a sister Marietta who died in infancy.

Friends may call at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg from 3:00 until 8:00PM on Thursday May 21, 2009. Funeral services will be held on Friday May 22, 2009 at 10:30AM at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home 110 E. North St. Greensburg, Indiana 47240. Burial will follow in the South Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to either the Decatur County Community Foundation or the First Presbyterian Church.

Martha Roach, 93

Martha Roach, 93, Greensburg, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2009 at the Arbor Grove Village Nursing Home in Greensburg.

Born, March 27, 1916 in Greensburg, Indiana, she was the daughter of Grover C. and Lena (Hamer) DeMoss.

Martha had been a cook for Charles Johnson and Keillor’s Restaurant. She also had worked in the Roach’s Liquor Store on Lincoln St.

She was married to Robert C. Roach on April 5, 1952 and he preceded her in death on April 27, 1989.

She is survived by one brother, Richard L. (Beverly) DeMoss, Evansville; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; two brothers, John W. and Grover Dale DeMoss; two sisters, Margaret Dalmbert and Joan L. DeMoss.

Visitation will be from 11-1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Dover officiating.

Interment will be held in the South Park Cemetery in Greensburg.

James W. Myers, 70

James W. Myers, 70, Greensburg, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2009 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg. He is the husband of Virginia Myers.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.

Mildred Elizabeth Kops, 87

Mildred Elizabeth Kops, 87, of Batesville died Friday, May 15, 2009 in Batesville at the St. Andrew’s Health Campus.

Visitation is Monday from 5 - 7 p.m. with O.E.S. Services at 7:30 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Services are May 19 at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Crossroads in Batesville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Olive Marie Perkins, 82

Olive Marie Perkins, 82, of Butlerville, Ind. passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009 at her residence.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20 at Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday, May 21 from 4 p.m. till 8 p.m. at Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home and one hour prior to service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home to the donor’s choice of charity.

John Edward Christian

John Edward Christian, 76, of North Vernon, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2009, at 4:25 a.m. at his home.

Mr. Christian was a lifelong farmer, a Jackson County School Bus Driver, and a member of Queensville Community Church. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and playing euchre.

The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2009, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana, with the Rev. William Ramey officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2009, and on Monday, one hour prior to the service at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Hospice of Jennings County or the Queensville Community Church.

Born October 31, 1932, in Jennings County, Indiana, John was the son of John Raymond and Bessie Ray Christian. He married Mabel LaVern Robins on February 26, 1953, in North Vernon. She survives.

Surviving along with his wife is one son, John Alan (Lori) Christian, Sr. of Tucson, Arizona; one daughter, Vickie Kolb of Richmond, Indiana; two sisters, Mildred (Jack) Furst of Holton, Indiana, and Betty (Frank) Clark of North Vernon, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Amanda Kolb, Brittany Kolb, Candace Kolb, Derek Kolb, Erik Kolb, and Flint Kolb all of Richmond, Indiana; and John A. Christian, Jr., Shawn Christian and Tiana Christian.

Mr. Christian was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James Christian, Richard Christian, and Charles Christian; and one sister, Mary Katherine Christian.

Stephen Palmour Rafferty

Stephen Palmour Rafferty, 39, of North Vernon, Indiana, passed away at 1:38 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Mr. Rafferty previously worked for Repp & Mundt in the construction industry and was a member of Union Local 741. He was a 1988 graduate of Jennings County High School and a member of Queensville Community Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was a huge Indianapolis Colts and NASCAR fan. His greatest enjoyment was spending time playing with his three boys.

The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2009, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service on Friday. Cremation is planned.

Memorials contributions may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to the American Liver Foundation.

Born May 17, 1969, in Columbus, Indiana, Stephen was the son of Merrill L. and Ruby Smith Rafferty. He married Kellie Anderson Rafferty on November 10, 1989, in North Vernon, Indiana. She survives.

Surviving along with his wife and mother, are three sons, Ryan Rafferty, Dalton Rafferty, and Levi Rafferty of North Vernon; and one brother, Sam Rafferty of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his father and one daughter, Stephanie Renee Rafferty.

Camille Marie Johnson

Camille Marie Johnson, 48, of North Vernon, Indiana, passed away at 5:50 p.m. (Central Time) on Monday, January 12, 2009, at the Cancer Center's of America in Zion, Illinois.

Mrs. Johnson was the Owner of Nu Image Hair Salon in North Vernon, Indiana. She was a graduate of Madison Consolidated School Systems in Madison, Indiana and enjoyed racing, yardwork, spending time with her grandson, playing with her dogs, and going on trips to Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

The funeral will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2009, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials contributions may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to the American Cancer Society.

Born January 2, 1961, in Madison, Indiana, Camille was the daughter of Robert C. and Martha M. Parrino Sanders. She married Joseph Johnson on March 29, 2002, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. He survives.

Surviving along with her husband and mother, are two daughters, Stephanie (Craig) Sentz and Brittany Williams of North Vernon; two step daughters, Brittany Johnson and Whitney Johnson of Scipio; three brothers, Michael (Kathy) Sanders of Jonesville, John Sanders of Deputy, and Rick Sanders of North Vernon; one half brother, Robert (Julia) Sanders of Indianapolis; two sisters, Marlena (Wayne) Thorp and Shirley (Russell) Pearson of North Vernon; and one grandson, Brady Robert Sentz of North Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Conley Sanders.
