Denise Jane Hunsberger

Denise Jane Hunsberger, 60, of North Vernon, Indiana, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2009, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Mrs. Hunsberger retired in 2002 from Verizon in Sarasota, Florida, as an Office and Payroll Manager after 30 plus years of service. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Sarasota and enjoyed sewing, genealogy, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2009, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana, with Rev. Ron Stevens officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2009, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Cremation is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to InterFaith Caregivers.

Born August 13, 1948, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Denise was the daughter of Oscar and Elsie Bryant Jordan. She married Winfield Hunsberger on March 23, 1982 in Sarasota, Florida. He survives.

Surviving along with her husband are three brothers, James (Joann) Jordan of Salsbury, Indiana, Carl (Joann) Jordan of Shoals, Indiana, and Donald (Trina) Jordan of Knightstown, Indiana; five sisters, Emma (Billy) Swindell of North Vernon, Indiana, Betty (Paul) Davis and Darla (Tommy) Holdren both of Indianapolis, Indiana, Tina (John) Dodrill of Greenfield, Indiana and Doris Renee' Jordan of Knightstown, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Richard Jordan and Anthony Jordan; and one sister, Debra Jordan.

Hazel Maxine Shane

Hazel Maxine Shane, 91, of North Vernon, Indiana, passed away at 10:09 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at Jennings Healthcare Center.

Mrs. Shane was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of children, talking with friends, sewing, and carpentry work. She was a 1935 graduate of Kempton High School in Tipton County, Indiana. Mrs. Shane was a member of Butlerville Baptist Church, the North Vernon Chapter #183 Order of the Eastern Star, and a former member of the Red Brick Seniors. She was also a Foster Grandparent from 1983 through 1991.

The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2009, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana, with the Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2009, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Butlerville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Hospice of Jennings County.

Born March 3, 1917, in Hamilton County, Indiana, Hazel was the daughter of Albert Thomas Jefferson and Carrie Ethel Landis Shane. She married Verlie O. Shane on April 18, 1937, in Bean Blossom, Indiana. He preceded her in death on November 19, 1965.

Survivors include two daughters, Mamie (Dean) Erickson of Butlerville and Mary (Mike David) Shane of North Vernon; one step daughter, Jane Knear of Jeffersonville; one brother, Basil Barrett of Frankfort; two grandsons, Patrick Laman of Frankfort, KY and Andrew (Christa) Erickson of Peoria, IL; and one great grandson, Ethan Erickson of Peoria, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Everett Barrett and Richard Barrett; three sisters, Helen Morelock, Halsie McCauley, and Margaret Wyant; and one step granddaughter, Donna Knear.

Shirley Mae Temple

Shirley Mae Temple, 58, of North Vernon, Indiana, passed away at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2009, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Mrs. Temple worked as a cashier for Bi-Rite and Swifty gas stations and was employed as a custodian for the Jennings County School Corporation. She was a member of Rush Branch United Methodist Church and a former member of the Coffee Creek Conservation Club. Mrs. Temple enjoyed fishing, crocheting, working in her flowers, playing bingo, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana, with the Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2009, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery in Salem, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Riley Hospital for Children.

Born June 10, 1950, in Jennings County, Indiana, Shirley was the daughter of Paul and Betty Combest Lucas. She married Samuel Temple on January 2, 1971, at Rush Branch United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1995.

Survivors include one son, Paul Temple of North Vernon; two brothers, Paul Lucas and Richard (Margaret) Lucas both of North Vernon; two sisters, Loretta (Bart) Caldwell and Brenda (Ralph) Johnson both of North Vernon; five grandchildren, Baylee Curtis, Dalton Curtis, Wesley Curtis, Tyler Curtis of Seymour, and Brittney Curtis of North Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Samuel; one daughter, Tiffany Dawn Curtis, and one brother, Paul Marshal Lucas.

Edward Richard Dixon

Edward Richard "Eddie" Dixon, 86, of North Vernon passed away at 5:17 pm Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus, IN.

Mr. Dixon retired as a conductor in 1978 from CSX Railroad after 33 years of service.

He was a 1942 graduate of North Vernon High School. A United States Navy veteran, serving during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Smiling Senior Citizens, both in North Vernon. He was a 50 year member of the North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59, the Murat Shine in Indianapolis, and the Seymour York Rite. He was a member of the North Vernon Chapter #183, Order of the Eastern Star, and a former board member of the North Vernon Chapter of Rainbow for Girls. He enjoyed watching baseball, basketball and golf.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of North Vernon with the Rev. Bob Weeks officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and after 12:00 pm on Thursday at the Church. Masonic services will be conducted by members of the North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59 at 7:00 pm, Wednesday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery with members of the Matt Hester post #2021 Veterans of Foreign Wars of North Vernon.

Memorials may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Hospice of South Central Indiana or The American Cancer Society.

Born February 21, 1922 in Paris, Indiana he was the son of Fred W. and Icley Green Dixon. He married Wanda Pearcy on May 10, 1947 in Jeffersonville, IN she survives.

Surviving with his wife is a son Clayton Joseph ( Jackie) Dixon of Wichita, KS; a daughter, Kimberly Jo Eder of Indianapolis, IN; sisters, Kathleen McGarvey of Middletown, PA and Geneva (Marion) Gelkey of Lucas, KY; grandchildren, Heather ReNae (Jeremy) Fowler of Elkins, AR, Emmy Lyn (Marc) Murphy of Augusta, KS, Jason David (Tracy) Eder of Fishers, IN, Benjamin Edward Eder and Kathleen Michelle Eder, both of North Vernon, IN; seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph, Clark, Ralph & Robert Dixon and a sister, Mary Smith.

Donald Lee Messer

Rev. Donald Lee Messer, 62, of North Vernon, Indiana, passed away at 1:53 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Rev. Messer was the Pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene in North Vernon, Indiana, for the last two and one half years. Prior to his pastorate in there, he and his wife, Barbara, served as Missionaries through the International Church of the Nazarene World Missions. Rev. Messer served in missions for 26 years in Zambia, Malawi, Kenya, and South Africa.

He was a 1965 graduate of Oskaloosa Iowa High School, a 1970 graduate of Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois, and a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene.

The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2009, at First Church of the Nazarene, located at 2195 North State Highway 3, North Vernon. The Reverends Ernest LaBelle, J.D. Bailey, and Ryan Goode will be officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2009, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to First Church of the Nazarene, North Vernon, Indiana.

Born January 26, 1947, in Henry County, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Don was the son of Gilbert Grant and Florence Marie Johnson Messer. He married Barbara Andrews on July 20, 1968, at the Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She survives.

Surviving along with his wife, Barbara, is one son, Scott Andrew Messer of Perth, Australia; one daughter, Kathleen Denise Messer of Los Angeles, California; and one brother, Dennis Messer of Burlington, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kristina Dawn Messer; and one brother, Richard Dean Messer.

Willard Mae Cundiff

Willard Mae Cundiff, 89, of North Vernon passed away at 8:40 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2009, at the Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour, Indiana.

Mrs. Cundiff was a homemaker. She was a member of the Jennings Church of Christ in North Vernon. A former member of First Christian Church and the Loyal Brean Sunday School class both in North Vernon. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and flowers.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Marcus Speer officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 26, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Jennings Church of Christ.

Mrs. Cundiff was born on the 24th of October 1919 the daughter of William Lee and Matilda Alice Cane Farris in Cane Valley, Kentucky. She married Stanley Smith Cundiff on August 3, 1941 in Hodgekinsville, Kentucky he survives.

Surviving with her husband are a daughter, Sue (Roy) Craft of North Vernon, Indiana; two grandchildren, Brenda (Dean) Schuett and Loretta Thompson both of North Vernon, Indiana; five great-grandchildren, Hunter Robbins, Dakota Robbins, Kylie Thompson, Tyler Thompson and Ashley Thompson all of North Vernon, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Sammy Randall Cundiff on November 16, 2006; four brothers, Rollin, Leslie, Raymond and Johnnie Farris; four sisters, Audrey Page, Mary Whitney, Ethel Scott and Estelle Bault.

Norma Jean Adams

Norma Jean Adams, 84, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 5:57 pm, Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Indiana.

Mrs. Adams owned and operated Alexander's Grocery at Tyler's Crossing for 40 years. She was a 1942 graduate of Ball High School in Muncie, Indiana. She attended Scipio United Methodist Church in Scipio, Indiana. She enjoyed working in her flower garden especially growing roses.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:30 am Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Lonny Goen officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 pm Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in the Hulse Cemetery in Jennings County, Indiana.

Memorials may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to the American Cancer Society.

She was born on March 18, 1924 in Fayette County, Indiana. She was the daughter of Earl and Rozzie Zimmerman Hudson. She married her first husband Richard Alexander on August 2, 1943 in Florence, South Carolina. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1996. She married he second husband, Birna Adams on March 28, 1998 at the Scipio United Methodist Church in Scipio, Indiana. He survives.

Surviving with her husband are step-sons Nicholas Adams of North Vernon, Indiana and Jeffery Adams of Hamilton, Ohio; daughters Jane Vance of Aurora, Indiana, Karen Sue (Paul) Wilkins of Tallahassee, Florida, brother Edwin (Dodie) Hudson of Rushville, Indiana; sister, Ann (Bill) Job or Milton, Indiana; grandchildren, Brian Vance of North Vernon, Indiana, Mark (Jennifer) Wilkins, Steve Wilkins and Chris (Beth) Alexander all of Tallahassee, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Richard Alexander; brothers, Donald and Wayne Hudson, a sister Loretta Yoke.
