Anna Mae Burkman

Anna Mae Burkman, 82, of Elizabethtown, Indiana passes away at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Indiana.

Mrs. Burkman was born on June 17, 1927 in Jennings County, Indiana the daughter of Robert and Emma Biehle Kemp. She married Robert Wayne Burkman on December 28, 1952 in North Vernon, Indiana. He survives.

Mrs. Burkman worked for Garret Drug Store where she was a Pharmacy Assistant for 7 years she retired in December 14, 1952. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in his Pastorate. She attended North Vernon High School. Attended Sardinia Baptist Church in Sardinia, Indiana for 9 year; was a lay Pastor at Norristown Community Church; attended Blue Ridge and Ray's Crossing Christian Union for 2 years; Assisted her husband as he pastored at Wilson Chapel for 3 years. She enjoyed embroidery, photography, reading, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving with her husband are her son, Eric Burkman and his companion Linda Butler of Scipio, Indiana; her daughters, Lori Ammerman and her husband David of Scipio, Indiana, Jane Riley and her husband, Mike of Columbus, Indiana; a brother, Donald Kemp of Middletown, Indiana; five sisters, Barbara ( Jack) Boyd of Denton, Kentucky, Roberta Rose Kemp of Richmond, Indiana, Judy Kemp of Hanover, Indiana, Beulah Yeager and Melody (Danny) Schiller both of North Vernon, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Mariam Elizabeth (Hunter) Hall of Bagtown, Texas, Charity Rose (Matthew) Brennan of Westport, Indiana, Shawn Allen Burkman of Queensville, Indiana, Erin Margaret Burkman of Scipio, Indiana, Anna Rebecca (Eric) Stevenson, Jacob Matthew Riley, Mike (Karen) Riley Jr. and Jonathan Riley all of Columbus, Indiana; eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Mary Kemp

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Rust officiating. Friends may call at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Monday, July 27, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Donor's Choice of Charity.

Morgan Lyn Wright

Morgan Lyn Wright, 16, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 4:47 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at her residence in Commiskey, Indiana.

Morgan was born on August 25, 1992 in Columbus, Indiana the daughter of Gary Wright and Karie O'Mara.

Morgan was a student at Jennings County High School in North Vernon, Indiana and had just completed her sophomore year. She was a member of the Jennings County 4-H. Along with playing on the Jennings County volleyball team, softball team and basketball team. Morgan was also a team player with the Hit and Run Gang. She enjoyed texting her friends and playing sports.

She is survived by her father and step-mother, Gary and Tracy Wright of Commiskey, Indiana; her mother, Karie Capps of Columbus, Indiana; three brothers, D.J.(Meagan Lucas) Schroeder of North Vernon, Indiana, Briley and Carson Capps of Columbus, Indiana; two sisters, Allie Ponsler and Shelbi Wright both of Commiskey, Indiana; Grandparents, Ernie and Brenda Wright of Commiskey, Indiana, Jerry O'Mara of Columbus, Indiana and Becky (Braden) Worrell of North Vernon, Indiana; Great-Grandparents, Evanna Green, Juanita Mock and Bob and Deanie Byram all of North Vernon, Indiana.

She is preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Bob Green.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Jennings County High School Gymnasium, North Vernon, Indiana with Rev. John Beck officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Jennings County High School Gymnasium in North Vernon, Indiana. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, Indiana. Arrangements were made by Dove- Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana.

A Memorial Service will be held following the Funeral at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Crossroads Community Church, 9550 North CR 700 W., Elizabethtown, Indiana, where Morgan attended as a child.

Dorothy Jane Wetzel

Dorothy Jane Wetzel, 90, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 1:02 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2009 at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour, Indiana.

Mrs. Wetzel was born on March 30, 1919 in Cropsey, Illinois the daughter of Arthur and Josie McClellan Morin. She married John Foster Wetzel on February 28, 1940 at Tea Creek Baptist Church in Jennings County, Indiana. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2004.

Mrs. Wetzel worked as a cook for 18 years for the Jennings County School Corporation. She worked from 1963 - 1968 at Lovett High School and from 1968- 1981 at Jennings County High School. She was a member of Tea Creek Baptist Church in Jennings County, Indiana. She graduated in 1937 from Lovett High School in Lovett, Indiana. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and flowers.

She is survived by her son, John Mark (Kim) Wetzel of Seymour, Indiana; daughter, Joann (Larry) Cox of Commiskey, Indiana; four grandchildren, Jason ( Cheryl) Wetzel of Seymour, Indiana, Larry (Amy) Cox, Jr. of Lancaster, California, Mike (Dyveke) Cox of Waverly, Indiana and Jennifer (Dave) Kipper of North Vernon, Indiana; eight great-grandchildren, Deanne, Landon, Lincoln and Larry Cox III all of Lancaster, California, Evan, Lauren and Benjamin Cox all of Waverly, Indiana and Jonathan Kipper of North Vernon, Indiana

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Foster Wetzel and three brothers, Donald, Dudley and Carl Morin.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, Indiana.

Memorials may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Tea Creek Cemetery Association.

Allyson Lee Mead

Allyson Lee "Sandy" Mead, 56, of North Vernon, Indiana, formerly of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2009 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus, Indiana.

Ms. Mead was born on June 9, 1953 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the daughter of Edward L Mead and the late Peggy Young Mead.

Ms. Mead worked her entire adult life in the Casino Industry until retiring in 1995. She graduated in 1970 from Clark High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her hobbies included, traveling, enjoying life to the fullest, animals, especially cats, cooking and family time.

She is survived by her father and step-mother, Edward L and Rebecca Mead of North Vernon, Indiana; companion, Richard Duran of Las Vegas, Nevada; brother, Gregory "Skip" Mead of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters, Sharon Tanner and Susan (F.F.) Edwards both of Las Vegas, Nevada; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Peggy Young Mead; son, Jeremy Smith and brother, John Taylor.

No Services are planned at this time. Local arrangements were made by the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana.

Luther Thomas Hill, Sr.

Luther Thomas Hill, Sr., 64, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at his residence.

Mr. Hill was born on January 21, 1945 in Louisville, Kentucky the son of Stallard and Sylvia Logsdon Hill. He married Beverly Ann England on October 2, 1964 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She survives

Mr. Hill served in the U.S. Army from 1962 - 1964. He enjoyed playing pool, fishing, cookouts, bonfires, and spending time with his family.

Surviving with his wife of 44 years are two sons, Allen Craig Hill and Luther Thomas (Candace) Hill, Jr., both of Indianapolis, Indiana; two brothers, Arlis Hill of Louisville, Kentucky and Allen Hill of Jamestown, Indiana; six grandchildren, McKenzie Hill of North Vernon, Indiana, Samantha Hausman, Morgan Hill, Thomas Hill, Raven Hill and Ricky Hill, II all of Indianapolis, Indiana; one great-grandchild, Trey Hausman of Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Ricky Eugene Hill and a daughter, Melissa Lee Hill.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Washington Park North Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana with the Rev. Kevin Ridder Officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. till 12:15 p.m. at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home for Funeral Expenses.

Robert Eugene Fields

Robert Eugene Fields, 75, of Deputy, Indiana passed away at 4:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2009 at Ripley Crossing Nursing Home in Milan, Indiana.

Mr. Fields was employed as a heavy equipment operator for New Point Stone Quarry, Prior to this he had worked as a machine operator for the Ripley County Highway Department for several years. He attended school in Kentucky. His hobbies included fishing, salvaging and flea markets.

Born on February 2, 1934 in Kentucky he was the son of Elmer and Lela Phillips Fields. He married Della Mae Miller on December 3, 1955 in Kentucky. She preceded him in death on January 17, 1989.

Survivors include; four sons, Roy (Dorothy) Fields of Butlerville, Indiana, Billy (Debbie) Fields of North Vernon, Indiana, Rickie Fields of Versailles, Indiana and James Fields of Commiskey, Indiana; seven daughters, Joyce Day and Brenda Holt both of Miamisburg, Ohio, Kathleen McDowell of Spencer, Indiana, Patricia (John) Westerman of Madison, Indiana, Vickie (Dwane) Patrick of Holton, Indiana, Tina (Roy Branson) Downey of Scipio, Indiana and Susan (Benjamin) Young of Osgood, Indiana; two sisters, Dorothy (Grant) Estridge of London, Kentucky and Thelma (Steve) DeFord of Scottsville, Kentucky; twenty three grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, one son; Robert Fields; two brothers, Benny Phillips and John Fields; four sisters, Lucille Fields, Irene Ruble, Anna Vaughn and Kathleen Mullins; a grandson, Jason Westerman.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Holton Cemetery in Holton, Indiana with the Rev. Charlie Miller officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. till 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana.

Memorials may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Ripley Crossing Nursing Home.

Robert Jay Dixon

Robert Jay Dixon, 90, of North Vernon passed away at 2:33 a.m. on Wednesday, July 01, 2009 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus, Indiana.

Mr. Dixon was born on November 15, 1918 in Brewersville, Indiana to the late, Lester and Minnie Naomi Shulties Dixon. He married Ann Wages on June 11, 1948 in Fresno, California. She survives.

Mr. Dixon was a Farmer, and worked as a Surveyor for ASCS for 31 years. He was a 1937 graduate of Vernon High School and after graduation he attended Radio Technical School in Los Angeles, California. A Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, from 1942 - 1945. He was a member of the First Christian Church, where he formerly served as Church Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, and teacher. He was a member and served on the Board of Directors for Jennings County Farm Bureau; He formerly served as Director (President) and on the Board of the Jennings County Fair. He was awarded Conservationist of the Year in 1996. His hobbies included collecting rocks and coins and attending WWII Air Force reunions.

Surviving with his wife of 61 years are one son, Kavin Dixon of North Vernon, Indiana; two daughters, Brenda Dixon and Ruth Ann (Dennis) Burgmeier both of North Vernon, Indiana; four grandchildren, Nick Burgmeier of Corydon, Indiana and Britt (Carrie) Burgmeier, Wendy Dixon Pearson and Shaun Dixon all of North Vernon, Indiana; eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lester William and Errol Dixon.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2009, at the First Christian Church in North Vernon, Indiana with the Rev's. Gilbert Shreiber and Anthony Sweeney officiating. Friends may call on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the Church. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery with members of Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F.W. giving Military graveside rites.

Memorials may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Mary Audrey Miller

Mary Audrey Miller, 90, of Anderson Indiana passed away at 11:35 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the St. John's Hospital in Anderson, Indiana.

Mrs. Miller was born on March 22, 1919 the daughter of Ira Verner and Anna Marie Merrit Nevil. She married Quentin Miller in Eureka, California. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2008.

Mrs. Miller worked for Cosco in Columbus, Indiana prior to that she worked for Conn Organ in Madison, Indiana and before there worked for Danner's 5 & 10 in North Vernon, Indiana. Her hobbies included playing cards, writing letters, ark work and spending time with her cat "Buddy".

Surviving are, three sons, Charles (Dottie) Poole of Honolulu, Hawaii, John (Nancy) Poole of Spring Hill, Florida and Tom (Dianna) Poole from Anderson, Indiana; a daughter-in-law, Patti Poole; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Charles William Poole; Second husband, Crozier Phillips, and third husband, Quentin Miller; a son, Marion Lee Roy Poole on March 22, 2009.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Dupont Cemetery.
