Mrs. Alberta Pearl Crawford

BORN: December 3, 1938

DIED: April 21, 2013

LOCATION: Osgood, Indiana

Alberta Pearl Crawford, 74, of Osgood, IN, formerly of Rising Sun, passed away at 2:26 PM, Sunday, April 21st, at Mary-Margaret Community Hospital in Batesville. IN. Alberta was born in Dearborn County, IN on December 3, 1938, a daughter of the late Irene (Wise) and Rosco Moorehead. On Nov. 24, 1984 she married David Crawford who survives her. She was a homemaker and a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Cincinnati, OH.

In addition to her loving and caring husband David, Alberta is survived by three daughters, Tammy Henson, of Erlanger, KY; Sherry Lathrop, of Lawrenceburg, IN; Sharon Lewis, of North Vernon, IN; a son, Danny Houze, of Aurora, IN; by grandchildren; Amanda Houze, Michael & Greg Henson, Joanna & Gabriel Lewis, and Jeffery & Lamanda Lewis and by great grandchildren; Anna Kay Houze, Chloe Houze, & Andrea Morris; by three sisters, Edna Moorehead, Dorothy Skirvin, Lorene Gibbs; by a brother Gerald Moorehead. Mrs. Crawford was preceded in death by her parents, by brothers, Leroy, Clayton, Junior & Albert Moorehead, by sisters, Linda Moorehead, Laverne Turner and Rosetta Eversman, and by a granddaughter, Erika Houze.

Funeral Service at Markland Funeral Home, Rising Sun, IN, at 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 25th, with Pastor Joe Hart officiating. Friends are invited to call Thursday 11AM-1PM. at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery in Cincinnati, OH. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of donor's choice.

Mrs. Shirley Jean Lambertson

BORN: January 23, 1947

DIED: July 31, 2013

LOCATION: Rising Sun, Indiana

Shirley Jean Lambertson, 66, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 4:35 AM, Wednesday, July 31st, 2013 at Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg, IN. Shirley was born in Dillsboro, IN on January 23, 1947, a daughter of the late Martha (O'Conner) and Dorman Ballard. In 1975 she married James Lambertson who survives her. Shirley was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.

In addition to her husband James, Shirley is survived by a daughter, Selena Schmaltz (Timothy), of Aurora, IN; a son, James Lambertson, Jr. (Jamie), of Rising Sun, IN; by 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren: by two sisters, Franny Mondary, of Rising Sun, IN; Betty Brady, of Patriot, IN; by two brothers, Stanley Ballard (Betty), of Rising Sun, IN; Gary Ballard (Leona), of Rising Sun, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, by a brother Paul Ballard and by a sister JoAnn Hall.

Funeral Service at Markland Funeral Home, Rising Sun, IN, at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 5th, with Rev. Chris Robinson officiating. Friends are invited to call Monday 11 AM - 1 PM. at Markland Funeral Home. Interment at Cedar Hedge Cemetery Rising Sun, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home for funeral expense.

Lowell Donald Devers

BORN: June 29, 1939

DIED: December 27, 2012

LOCATION: Patriot, Indiana

Lowell D. Devers, 73, passed away at 8:30 PM Thursday, December 27, 2012 at his home.
Lowell was born June 29, 1939 in Patriot. He was the second son of Parker and Pearl (Wright) Devers and lived his young life on the family farm with his 2 brothers and 3 sisters.He graduated from Patriot High school in 1957. Then he went to work at Joseph E. Seagrams and Sons, retiring, October 1, 2000. He worked 32 years as a bottling Room Operator and 10 years as a Tank Room Operator, totaling 42 years of service.
He married Virginia Wagner on January 17, 1959 by Rev. Taylor at the Rising Sun Church of Christ. They spent 54 years together. Unto this union two boys and three girls were born; Don, Jim, Cheryl, Teresa and Shelly.
Lowell was a farmer all his life and loved his cows, barn cats and spending time at the barn. He was a softball coach for the women's softball league for 15 years at the Patriot Ball Park. He and his son Jim, also maintained the grounds at the Ball Park for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Devers and children; Don Devers (Barb), of Rising Sun, IN, Cheryl Carter ( Steve) of Crittenden, KY, Teresa Theetge (Ed) of Vevay, IN, Jim Devers (Teena) of Patriot, IN, Shelly Blair (Chris) of Rising Sun, IN. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and by a sister, Leah Dunaway of Patriot, IN.
He was preceded in death by his father Parker Devers (1972) and mother, Pearl Devers (2001) by brothers, Deward Devers (1995), Owen Devers ( 2000), by sisters, Hazel Trembly (2005) and Arnetta Marksberry (2010).
Lowell will be missed by many family, friends and neighbors. Sleep Peacefully Lowell with Love!

Funeral service at 1 PM on Monday Dec. 31, 2012 at Markland Funeral Home, Rising Sun, IN with Pastor Mike Jones officiating. Visitation 11 AM till time of service. Burial will be at New Liberty Cemetery in East Enterprise, IN. Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.

Liana Arabel June Edgerton

DIED: June 11, 2013

LOCATION: Rising Sun, Indiana

Liana Arabel June Edgerton, infant daughter of Rebecca Mondary and Joseph Edgerton passed away at 4:46 PM, Tuesday, June 11th, 2013 at Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg, IN.

In addition to her parents, Liana is also survived by a brother, Liam Edgerton, of Rising Sun, IN; by grandparents, Robert Joseph Edgerton (Candi) of Port Royal, KY, Jeanette Ash of Carrollton, KY, Raymond & Amanda Mondary of Rising Sun, IN; by uncles, Jordan & Austin Edgerton, Michael Jump, Tyler Burton, Patrick & Jonathan Mondary and by aunts, Whitney Edgerton, Julia Hon & Katelyn Burton.

Memorial Service at Anderson's Riviera Inn, Rising Sun, IN, at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 16th, with Br. Bill Waugh officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the family. Markland Funeral Home of Rising Sun, IN serving the family.

Howard Romans

BORN: January 4, 1931

DIED: June 12, 2013

LOCATION: Patriot, Indiana

Howard Romans, 82, of Patriot, IN, passed away at 7:25 AM, Wednesday, June 12th, 2013 at Shady Nook Care Center in Lawrenceburg, IN. Howard was born in Switzerland County, IN on January 4, 1931, a son of the late Charlotte (Freeman) and Sam Romans. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a Airman 2nd class during the Korean War. Howard retired from Seagrams Distillery in Lawrenceburg, IN. He was a member of the VA, VFW of Aurora, and AMVETS. Howard enjoyed working on antique tractors and old juke boxes. On June 24, 1972 he married Virginia (Scudder) Romans who survives him.

In addition to his wife Virginia, Howard is also survived by a daughter, Linda Jo Webb, of Missouri; three sons Howard Dwayne Romans, of Patriot, IN; Mike Romans, of Missouri; David Romans, of Missouri; two step daughters, Alsia L. Otter, of Patriot, IN; Katherine Griffin, of Patriot, IN; two step sons Allen Otter, of Patriot, IN; David Otter, of Rising Sun, IN; by a sister, Dorothy Ballard, of Rising Sun, IN; two brothers, Don Romans, of Spokane, Wash; Willie Romans, of Patriot, IN. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, by sons, Jack W. Romans & Bruce Romans, and by brothers, Sam, Mitchell & Stanley Romans.

Funeral Service at Markland Funeral Home, Rising Sun, IN, at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 18th, with Rev. Jim Jenkins officiating. Friends are invited to call Monday 5-8 PM. at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Eastview Cemetery, Patriot, IN. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of donor's choice.

Erma Jean King

BORN: February 18, 1933

DIED: July 24, 2013

LOCATION: Rising Sun, Indiana

Erma Jean King, 80, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 1:53 PM, Wednesday, July 24th, 2013 at Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg, IN. Erma was born in Shelbyville, KY on February 18, 1933, a daughter of the late Ruth (Moore) and George Smither. She was a graduate of Patriot High School, Class of 1951. On November 17, 1951 she married Billy Lee King, who passed away on December 24, 2003. Erma and Bill were married over 52 years. She attended the Rising Sun First Baptist Church. She retired from Rising Sun, Ohio County Schools where she worked in the cafeteria. Erma was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Young Hearts Home Ec Club. Erma enjoyed sewing, reading, visiting with friends, taking care of her plants and she loved seeing cardinal red birds.

Erma is survived by three daughters, Vickie (Don) Smith, of Rising Sun, IN; Kelley King, of Aurora, IN;
Marcie (Tim) Hensley, of Rising Sun, IN; a son, Steve King, of Columbus, IN; by grandchildren; Amberly King, Trenton King, Sara Bovard, & Adam Hensley and by a great granddaughter, Autumn LeeAnn, by a brother, Russell (Della) Smither, of Lakeland, FL. Erma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, and by a brother Donald Smither.

Funeral Service at Markland Funeral Home, Rising Sun, IN, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 27th, with Rev. Jim Jenkins officiating. Friends are invited to call Friday 5-8 PM. at Markland Funeral Home. Interment at Rising Sun New Cemetery Rising Sun, IN. Family request donations to Rising Sun First Baptist Church.

Charles Wilber Carf - October 14, 2013

Charles Wilber Carf, 62, of Aberdeen, IN, passed away at 12:00 PM, Monday, October 14th, at the home of his son in Quercus Grove, IN. Charles was born in East Enterprise, IN on September 11, 1951, a son of the late Eleanor (Ellis) Stephenson and Charles Cleon Carf. He attended school in Aurora, IN. Charles worked as a maintenance crew leader for INDOT. On June 14, 1991 at Jelico, TN he married Norma (Stephenson) Carf who passed away in February.

William W. "Bill" Thies - October 14, 2013

William Wayne "Bill" Thies, 65, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 3:22 PM, Monday, October 14th, 2013 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, IN. Bill was born in Milan, IN on January 7, 1948, a son of the late Elizabeth M. (Smith) and Virdus W. Thies. He attended school in Rising Sun. Bill was a union construction worker and pipe fitter working in Utah for 17 years. He also helped his brother-in-law Guy at Ashcraft's Garage.

Gerald Johnson - October 12, 2013

OBITUARY; Gerald Johnson (1929-2013) Well known and highly respected Ohio County teacher and school administrator Gerald Johnson, age 84, of Lawrenceburg, IN passed away October 12 after a long illness. He was born March 11, 1929 in Milan, IN to Estal Johnson and Louise Wingate Wells. "Jerry" grew up in Rising Sun, IN and graduated from Rising Sun High School in 1947. On June 8, 1951 he married his beloved classmate, Patricia Stow.

Genevieve Mae Peters - October 9, 2013

Genevieve Mae Peters, 96, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 9:00 PM, Wednesday, October 9th, 2013 at The Waters of Rising Sun. Genevieve was born in Ohio County, IN on July 24, 1917, a daughter of the late Bessie (Hastings) and Herman Thies. She attended school in Rising Sun and was a member of the Rising Sun Church of Christ. Genevieve retired from Thatcher Glass in Lawrenceburg, IN and also had worked at Seagrams Distillery.

William D. "Bill" McCartney - October 6, 2013

William Dale "Bill" McCartney, 80, of Aurora, IN, passed away at 10:45 AM, Sunday, October 6th, 2013 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, IN. Bill was born in Wilmington, IN on March 12, 1933, a son of the late Thelma (Webb) and James McCartney. He attended grade school in Wilmington and was a graduate of Aurora High School, Class of 1951. After graduation he served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Aviation Machinest Mate.

Vence Vaughn - October 1, 2013

Vence Vaughn, 84, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 1st, at his residence. Vence was born in Cincinnati, OH on May 14, 1929, a son of the late Hazel (McClain) and Vence Vaughn. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class. While in service he received an Army of Occupation Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. On June 3, 1950 he married Ida Marie (Brannon) Vaughn who survives him.

Shelton L. Emery, Jr. - September 11, 2013

Shelton Lucas Emery, Jr., 81, of Aurora, IN, passed away at 8:15 AM, Wednesday, September 11th, 2013 at Liberty Nursing Center of Three Rivers, Cincinnati, OH. Shelton was born in Switzerland County, IN on June 1, 1932, a son of the late Mary Elizabeth (James) and Shelton Emery, Sr. He worked as a machine operator in the manufacturing of furniture. Shelton had worked at the Batesville, Aurora and Rising Sun Chair Factories.
