Alvina M. (Evelyn) (nee Furgal) Grzywacz
Hammond

Alvina M. (Evelyn) Grzywacz (nee Furgal), age 81, of Hammond, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2002 under Hospice Care. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joseph Grzywacz; one daughter, Cynthia (Charles) Esler of Chicago, IL; two sons, Thomas (Jane) Graly of Berkely, CA and Daniel Graly of Ft. Wayne, IN; one sister, Adele (Joseph) Kray of Hammond; four grandchildren, Michael Esler, Joseph Graly, Marcus Graly and Paul Graly; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose and Katherine Furgal, and two sisters, Ludmilla Hupke and Virginia Szymonik.

Funeral services Saturday, November 2, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. from the Anthony & Dziadowicz Funeral Home, 4404 Cameron Ave., Hammond, IN (two blocks east of Hohman, one block north of Gostlin). 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Casimir Church with Rev. Vladimir Janeczek officiating. Burial, Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Evelyn was a member of St. Casimir Church and past president of the St. Casimir Ladies Rosary Society, who will pray the rosary Friday at 3:00 p.m. She was a homemaker and skilled in the art of crochet, needle-point and bread making. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Casimir Church, Hammond, or Hospice of the Calumet Area, 600 Superior St., Munster, IN 46321.

Louis J. Holubiak, age 82, of Hammond, formerly of Lansing and Roseland, IL passed away on Friday, November 1, 2002. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Visitation will be Sunday, 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Rosemoor Funeral Home, 17943 S. Torrence Ave., Lansing, IL. Info 708-474-2404

Dean J. Johnson
Valparaiso

Dean J. Johnson, age 47, a long time Valparaiso resident, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2002. Dean was employed at NIPSCO as a fleet mechanic. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church. Dean enjoyed rock climbing, skiing and riding his Harley. He is survived by his wife, Tamara (nee Moore); parents, Robert O. and Betty Ann (nee smith) Johnson of Lake Station; two brothers, Kenton Johnson of Valparaiso and Jay W. Johnson of Darien, Illiois; one sister, Ruth (Robert) Jones of Portage; three nephews; Robert Jones II of California, Ryan (Christy) Jones of Portage and Montana Johnson of Darien, Illinois; one great niece, Victoria Jones of Portage; one great-nephew, Andrew Jones of Portage; father and mother-in-law, Donald and Mavis Moore of Portage; sister-in-law, Gayla Moore of Chesterton. Preceded in death by grandfathers, Martin Smith and John Johnson and grandmothers, Anna Marshall and Versa Johnson.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 4, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN, with Rev. Charles Strietelmeier officiating. Cremation will follow at Calvary Crematory. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.

Alicia Lopez.
Hammond

Alicia Lopez, age 73, of Hammond, IN, died Thursday, October 31, 2002 in St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago, IN. She is survived by five daughters: Maria Elena Reyna of Mexico, Sofia (George) Varga of Hammond, IN, Petra (Delfino) Cruz of East Chicago, IN, Maria (Juan) Guzman of Texas and Rosa (Pablo) Alvarado of Hammond, IN; four sons: Jose Luis Lopez of Texas, Jose Alberto Lopez of Texas, Brigido Lopez, Jr. of Hammond, IN and Julian (Rose) Lopez of Ohio; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters in Texas.

She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 4, 2002, 9:30 a.m. prayers at the Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 5840 Hohman Ave., Hammond, IN, to St. Margaret Mary Church, 1445 Hoffman St., Hammond, IN, for Mass at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Fernando DeCristobal officiating. Interment will follow at St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond. Friends may call for visitation on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Burns-Kish Funeral Home, Hammond.

Jacquelyn Banas
Jacquelyn (Godsey) Banas, 76, of Mooresville, died from natural causes at 10:50 a.m. Jan. 13, 2001, in Indianapolis. She had lived in Mooresville since 1975, moving from Nebraska.

The daughter of Milo P. and Hazel Fern (Noble) Schisler, both deceased, she was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Aurora, Neb. She married Edward Banas March 20, 1970, He survives in Mooresville.

Mrs. Banas attended one year of college at Scottsbluff Junior College in Scottsbluff, Neb.

Before retiring in 1993, she was a jewelry buyer and computer operator for Kipp Brothers in Indianapolis for 28 years. She was a member of the Mooresville Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 111 and Mooresville Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 103.

Other survivors include a daughter, Patricia J. McDonald of Hockessin, Del.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. service time Thursday at the mortuary. The body is to be cremated.

Dorval Blanton
Rites are pending at Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel in Mooresville for Dorval Marie (Johnson) Blanton. Mrs. Blanton, 90, of Mooresville, died Jan. 15, 2001, at her residence. She was the widow of Roy Silas Blanton.

A further account of her life and funeral arrangements will be published when available.

Dustin Bowen
Dustin Shaun "Dusty" Bowen, 19, of Mooresville, died Jan. 13, 2001, as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

The son of Bobby DeWayne and Deobrah Lynne (Maulden) Bowen, who survive in Mooresville, he was born April 13, 1981, in Boaz, Ala.

Bowen was a 1999 graduate of Monrovia High School. He had been employed as a box cutter for one and one-half years for Eby-Brown Co. in Plainfield. He was a member of Teamsters Local 135.

Other survivors include a sister, Jennifer Lee Bowen of Mooresville; a brother, Jason Shane Bowen of Mooresville; grandparents, Ernest Dean and Brenda (Gomer) Maulden of Portland, Tenn., Kenneth Ray and Scarlett O'Hara (Crump) Minor of Indianapolis, and Charlotte (Williams) Pankey of Fort Wayne; and a great-grandmother, Mary Ethel Bowen of Gadsden, Ala. A grandfather, Carl Kenneth Bowen, preceded him in death.

The service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel in Mooresville. The Rev. Jack Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in White Lick Cemetery in Mooresville. Friends may call from 2 to 9 o'clock today at the funeral chapel.
