Amelia Canarecci Mervilde
Date of death: April 16, 2006

Amelia “Millie” Mervilde, 84, of Berkley Circle, Mishawaka, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, at 4:10 p.m. Sunday, April 16.

Millie was born on April 28, 1921 in Mishawaka to John and Anita (Fabri) Canarecci, who preceded her in death.

On May 11, 1946 in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka as Amelia Canarecci she married Armond E. Mervilde who preceded her in death on June 11, 1989. Surviving Millie are a daughter, Janice (Gene) Bell of Elkhart, IN; two sons, James (Virginia) Mervilde of Indianapolis, IN and Michael (Karen) Mervilde of Green Bay, WI; four grandchildren, Lisa (Josh) Hanson, Michael Jr., John (Laura) and Laura Mervilde; her dear sister, caregiver and lifelong friend with whom she lived, Adelia “Del” Canarecci, and two brothers, Frank Canarecci and John Canarecci Jr. all of Mishawaka.

Millie was a lifetime area resident. She was a partner in the ownership of the Wander Inn, where Millie, her brother Frank and the Canareccis created a family atmosphere for friends and customers, for 34 years until she retired in 1982. Millie was a past member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, and American Legion Post 161 Ladies Auxiliary. Millie loved her family and was very proud of her children and grandchildren. Her life long love for the Cubs and Notre Dame was a constant source of joy in her life.

Her spirit, strength and positive outlook will be remembered by every one who knew and loved her. A special thank you to all the kind people at St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka, The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., Family Nursing Services, and an extra special thank you to Becky.

Family and friends may visit from 2:00 pm to 8:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service, Today, April 18th in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19th in St. Bavo Catholic Church with Rev. William Schooler officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.

Memorial contributions may be made in Millie’s name to American Lung Association, 9445 Delegates Row, Indianapolis, IN 46240 or The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Ct. South Bend, IN 46637.

Charles F. Wirick
Date of death: April 14, 2006

Charles Franklin Wirick Jr., 67, Osceola, passed away on Friday, April 14th in Rodebush Veterans Hospital Indianapolis, IN, after an illness. Mr. Wirick was born on October 20, 1938 in Toledo, OH as the son of Charles F. & Ruth M. (Heister) Wirick, who preceded him in death.

On June 14, 1957, in Coalbush United Methodist Church Mishawaka he married the former Joy R. Wiseman. She survives along with four children, Charles F. (Kim) Wirick III of Apollo Beach, FL., Bruce K. (Karin) Wirick of Granger, Adam S. (Misuna) Wirick of Kusan, Korea and Dawn M. Luke of Mishawaka.

Also surviving are six grandchildren, Charles F. Wirick IV, Witne Wirick, Grant Wirick, Matt Wirick, Steven Wirick, and Cassie Luke.

Mr. Wirick had been employed at State Wide Aluminum as a data processing manager for eleven years before his retirement in 2001.Charles was a veteran of the of the United State Army serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Coalbush United Church in Mishawaka. Charles was a loving and devoted Father, Grandfather and friend and will be missed by all who knew him

Friends may call from 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM. on Tuesday, April 18th at Coalbush United Methodist Church 15977 Jackson road Mishawaka 46544.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the church with Rev. Jim Davidson Officiating. The Family request that memorial contributions be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care 111 Sunnybrook Ct. South Bend, IN 46637.

Hahn Funeral Home 505 W. 8th Street Mishawaka, IN 46544 is in charge of handling arrangements.

Charles A. Hammes
Date of death: April 08, 2006

Charles A. Hammes, 80, of South Main Street, Mishawaka passed away on Saturday, April 8 in his home.

Charles was born on September 24, 1925, in Gary Indiana, as the son of the late Charles and Clara (Umlor) Hammes. He was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Peter Joseph, Leo, and John; two sisters, Marie and Hildegard Hammes.

On September 18, 1954 in Mishawaka he married the former Vera Capelli who preceded him on November 26, 2003.

Left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Gloria Griesinger of Greenwood, IN; a son Tony Hammes of Indianapolis; three sisters, Martha Shafer of Elkhart, IN, Clara Kovacs of Selinsgrove PA and Sister M. Carlita Hammes C.S.C. of South Bend, two brothers Henry E. (Patricia) Hammes of Elkhart and Fred J. Hammes of South Bend. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Rachel Griesinger of Chicago, IL and Benjamin Charles Griesinger of Greenwood, IN.

George was a Crew Supervisor for NIPSCO for 35 years before he retired in 1983. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving his country proudly during WW II. George was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, the K of C, Mishawaka, American Legion, and the Elkhart Model Railroad Club since 1960.

He was a good man, loving, caring and always enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren when ever he could.

Family and friends may visit Today, April 11th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka with Rev. Robert Yast officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN.

Memorial contributions can be made in Charles’ name to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544 or to Diabetes Association of St. Joseph County, United Health Services 711 E Colfax Avenue, South Bend, IN 46617.

Michael Charles Fain
Date of death: April 08, 2006

Michael “Mike” Charles Fain, 58, of Bastogne Ave., Mishawaka, passed away at home on the evening of Saturday, April 8.

Mike was born on July 5, 1947 in Mishawaka as the son of Richard H. and Delores (Dant) Fain. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard H. and by his former wife Sandra (Gray) Fain and by a sister Maureen Michaela Fain.

Mike is survived by his mother Delores Dant Fain of Granger; his daughter Angela Fain of Mishawaka; his son Richard Harry “Ric” Fain of Mishawaka; two sisters, Kevin (Doug) Moore of Fishers, IN and Cathleen (Mark) Witucki of Granger and a brother, Richard J. Fain of Fishers, IN.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during the Vietnam Era. He was an avid golfer, a member of Bowlers Country Club, St. Monica Catholic Church, a past member and bartender of DeAmicis in Mishawaka. He was a Chicago Cubs fan, a member of the Golf League at Erskine Golf Course. He loved his children more than any thing on this earth. Mike was a good loving, and caring father. He will be truly missed.

Visitation for family and friends will be Today, Tuesday, April 11, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka where a Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 12 in St. Monica Catholic Church, Mishawaka where a visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the services in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, with Military Rites given by the VFW Post 360 and American Legion Post 156 burial squad.

Contributions can be made to the family for an Educational Fund for his children, Angela and Ric.

Donald A. Cusson
Date of death: April 07, 2006

Donald A. “Donnie” Cusson, 48, of Lindsey St. in South Bend, In died at 9:05 A.M. at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Donnie was born December 26, 1957 in Springfield, MA to Joseph and Lorraine (Girard) Cusson. He was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Phillips.

Donnie is survived by his parents of Chicopee, MA; three daughters; Hannah Bechta, Donna Cusson and Diane Cusson all of Holyoke, MA; six grandchildren; one sister; Sandra (Oliver) Brassard of Putney, VT and four brothers; Joseph Cusson Jr. and Lawrence Cusson both of Chicopee, MA, Paul (Kathy) Cusson of Sunderland, MA and Robert (Tammy) Cusson of Sarasota, FL. Also surviving Donnie is his companion of 15 years, Joan Ferrero of South Bend, IN.

Donald was employed by Candlewood Apartments in the maintenance division until his health prevented him from working. He was a huge fan of the Miami Dolphins professional football team and he loved cats, especially “Peachy”. Donnie was also a great cook. He was a kind hearted man who will be missed greatly but never forgotten.

There will be no services or visitation for Donnie as his body has been cremated. Hahn Funeral Home 505 W. 8th St. Mishawaka, IN helped the family with arrangements.

Memorial donations in memory of Donald may be made to the St. Joseph County Humane Society 2506 Grape Road Mishawaka, IN 46545.

Donald G. Wilson
Date of death: April 07, 2006

Donald G. Wilson, 77, Mishawaka, passed away on Friday, April 7th in Davenport, FL, his winter home. Mr. Wilson was born on July 1, 1928 in Muncie, IN to Alvae Mae (Webster) and Howard Marion Wilson, who preceded him in death.

On September 23, 1950, he married Shirley Kimmey in Mishawaka. She survives along with two children, Kathy and (Rick) Holt of Mishawaka and Gerry and (Debbie) Wilson of Ganger. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Josh and (Lisa) Holt, Chris and Eric Holt of Mishawaka, Tammy and (Bryan) Weisweaver and Crystal Wilson of Granger. He will be deeply missed by all.

Mr. Wilson graduated from Ball State University and earned his Masters Degree from the University of Notre Dame. He had been employed as a Teacher for the South Bend Community School Corp. for 30 years, (25 years he taught at Green School). He later taught piano at Stanley Clark School. He was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Assoc., the National Teachers Assoc. and the Retired Teachers of St. Joseph County.

Don was a Veteran of the Korean War. He served as a Corporal in the Army, stationed in Germany during the American occupation. He was a member of the Ireland Road Church of God in Mishawaka. Through the years he helped his wife extensively in her pastoral ministry in South Bend, Goshen and Florida, and was very involved with the music ministry.

Don loved to play the piano, especially Chopin Concertos. He was an avid model train enthusiast and had quite an extensive collection. He always enjoyed reading novels and learning new things. In his retirement he enjoyed oil painting, working in his yard and spending time with his family. He was a huge Notre Dame fan and enjoyed rooting for the Irish! He spent a lot of time in his retirement years frequenting the Disney Theme Parks in Florida. He was young at heart. We will miss you Dad and your enthusiasm for life!

Visitors may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 13th at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday, April 14th. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Ireland Road Church of God with Rev. J. Mark Muncy and Rev. Pete Ramie officiating. Burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Osceola, IN.
