Norma Ryll
Date of death: October 25, 2007

Norma Ryll, 72 of Edwardsburg, MI, passed away after an illness on Thursday, October 25, 2007 in Holy Cross Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend.

Norma was born on December 20, 1934 in Mishawaka as the daughter of Theofiel and Jennie (Dhvivetter) DeMeyer. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Betty Whittaker and a brother Kenneth DeMeyer.

On August 19, 1953 as the former Norma DeMeyer she married Paul H. Ryll who preceded her in death, after 50 years of marriage, on July 24, 2004. Surviving Norma are her daughter Kathy (Jerry) Britton of Decatur, MI and her son Rick (Mary) Ryll of Edwardsburg, MI; three grandchildren, Angie Asmus, Tracy Britton and Zachary Ryll; three step grandchildren, Jason Taravat, Sarah Taravat and Katelyn Thielmann; two great grandchildren, Bailey Lucille Asmus and Abigail Asmus; and two sisters, Agnes “Aggie” Coddens and Dorothy Ellis both of South Bend.

Norma enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a wonderful loving, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be truly missed but never forgotten. Norma was a school bus driver in South Bend, Mishawaka, and Edwardsburg for 30 years before she retired. She was a Special Needs Driver and always had a good heart, she would always make sure the children had hats, coats and gloves, if not she would supply them with no thought of repayment. She would always wait for the children if they were running late so no one would miss the bus. She loved all of her “children” on the bus and they all loved her. Seeing the smiling faces every day brought such joy to her life, knowing that she in her small way she was bringing joy to them.

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 28 in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26 in the funeral home with Rev. Norb Stubel officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN.

Contributions in memory of Norma may be made to National Kidney Foundation of Indiana, 911 E. 86th St. Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.

Mary E. Leach
Date of death: October 28, 2007

Mary Elizabeth Leach, 84, of South Bend passed away Sunday October 28, in Hospice House South Bend after an illness.

Mary was born on February 5, 1923 in Mahomet, IL as the daughter of Albert and Ethel (Smith) Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Lois Anna Jones, two brothers, William Paul Jones and Clarence Jones, two nephews David Griffet, John Paul Jones, one niece, Carol Griffet.

On July 21, 1945 in Champaign, IL as Mary Jones she married James Leach. James and Mary moved to South Bend in 1945 coming from Durham, NC. Mary worked for Wymans Department Store in South Bend before its closing; she was then employed by South Bend Public Library for ten years before retiring in 1978. She was a member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church in South Bend.

Mary is survived by her husband of sixty - two years James Leach, Three daughters; Mary Alice Leach of South Bend, Janis Leach of South Bend, Janiece Leach and her husband Ed Voigtman of East Hampton, MA; four nieces Dianne Gates Griffet, Delores Griffet, Alberta “Charlene” Fitzgerald and Sheila Kay Jones.

Friends may call on Tuesday October 30th, from 3:00 – 7:00 PM in Hahn Funeral Home 505 W. 8th street Mishawaka, IN. Funeral Services for Mary will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday October 31, 2007 in Hahn Funeral Home with Rev. James Miller Pastor of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church South Bend officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, Indiana

The Family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in Mary’s name to Sunnyside Presbyterian Church 115 S. Francis St. South Bend, IN 46617 or to Hope Rescue Mission. 532 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN 46617.

Julia Elizabeth Huyvaert
Date of death: November 04, 2007

On Sunday at 6:00 p.m. Angels came to take our precious mother to her heavenly home.

She was born on July 10, 1912 in South Bend as the daughter of the late Julius and Caroline (Nemeth) Poczik. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Irene and Helen Poczik; two brothers, Julius and Emery Poczik and by a grandchild, Deborah Sue Fry.

On March 12, 1937 in South Bend as the former Julia Poczik she married Leon “Bud” Huyvaert who preceded her in death on August 23, 1993. Surviving are three children, Carolyn Fry of Mishawaka, Pat Dutoi of Mishawaka and Richard (Brenda) Huyvaert of Granger; six grandchildren, Ron (Lisa) Dutoi of Granger, Christine (Dwayne) Kazmierczak of Granger, Craig Fry of South Bend, Richard Huyvaert Jr. of Jimtown, IN, Dr. Jeffrey (Jennie) Huyvaert D.D.S. of New Carlisle and Michael Huyvaert of Granger; three great grandchildren, Kelly Kazmierczak, Breanna Kazmierczak and Jeffrey Huyvaert Jr.; and a sister Katherine Szeghy of New Carlisle, IN.

Julia was a homemaker and a wonderful cook and never afraid to tackle a project be it large or small. She was a member of the former Mishawaka Homing Pigeon Club, the BK Ladies Auxiliary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. She loved spending time with her family and friends and she loved dogs of all kinds especially her beloved Tyson and Mickey. Julia loved children and working in her yard. She had prize winning flowers in her garden because of all her loving devotion and enjoyment from tending to them. She will now be sharing her talents in her Heavenly Fathers Garden.

A private family graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 8 in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka had been entrusted with handling the arrangements.

Contributions can be made in memory of Julia to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County Indiana Inc, 2506 Grape Rd., Mishawaka, IN 46545.

Time may bring many changes to our lives, but through the years, some things last and grow even more precious - like the special joy of having you for a mother.

We love you mom and we’ll miss you more that words can tell. You will always hold a very special place in our hearts. Thank you for being our wonderful mother and for all of your unconditional love. Until we meet again. Your loving children.

Ronald C. Helm
Date of death: November 02, 2007

Ronald C. Helm, 80, of Osceola, IN passed away on Friday November 2, 2007 in Hospice House, South Bend.

On June 21, 1927 in South Bend he was born as the son of George and Vera (Myers) Helm. Preceding Ronald were his parents and a sister, E. Marceil Helm.

On November 17, 1972 he married Sandra M. Taylor who preceded him in death on October 2, 2004. Surviving Ronald are his four children, R. Michael (Kathy) Helm of W. Lafayette, IN, Patrick D. Helm of Harvest, AL, Barbara (Karl) Borsodi of Mishawaka and Steven J. (Lisa) Helm CMSGT, Ret. of Springfield, VA; two stepdaughters, Tami (John) Baney of Mishawaka and Deb (Mark) Thomas of Osceola; 11 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one step great grandchild; two sisters, Lois D. Mickels of Mishawaka and Sue (Walt) Winter of Redmond, OR and a niece Deborah Ballard of Redmond, OR.

Ronald was a 1945 graduate from Riley High School. He was a United States Army Veteran of WW II attaining the rank of Sgt. He earned his pilots license after his military career. He later retired from Coco - Cola Bottling Co. of South Bend after 45 years of service. He was a life long member of Club 15, where he was in the Euchre Club and was an avid golfer on the Golf League. He also enjoyed bowling.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 8 at 1:00 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka with Rev. Richard Dunn officiating. Family and friends may visit two hours prior to the services in the funeral home. Inurnment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, South Bend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Ronald’s memory to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN 46637.

Thomas G. Murphy
Date of death: November 08, 2007

Thomas Gerald Murphy II, 61, of Osceola passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.

Thomas was born on February 9, 1946 in South Bend as son of the late, Thomas and (Grebe) Clares Murphy. Also preceding Thomas in death was a brother Donald Murphy.

On February 14, 1970 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church he married the former Karen Grimes. Surviving are his loving wife, Karen a daughter Tamara (William) Sorocco of Osceola, a son Thomas (Jaime) Murphy III of Granger, four grandchildren, Greyson Murphy, William “Trey” Sorocco III, Nicholas “Nico” Sorocco and Fallon Murphy; a sister Barbara Cocanower of Osceola and a brother James Murphy of Osceola. Also surviving are his brother - in - law, Kenny (Linda) Grimes of South Bend, sister - in - law, Debbie (Darell) Brothers of Granger, mother - in - law, Maryann Grimes - Kronewitter of Mishawaka and his maternal grandmother - in - law, Dorothy Berta of Osceola.

Thomas worked for Nyloncraft in Mishawaka and for Park - N - Shop. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the American Legion in Osceola. He was a gentle and caring man. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Thomas will be missed by all.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday, November 11 from 2 to 6 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, November 12 in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Mishawaka with Rev. Daniel Scheidt officiating.

Martin R. Cole
Date of death: November 11, 2007

Martin Reese Cole, 81, of Mishawaka, IN passed away on Sunday November 11, 2007 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Mishawaka Campus.

On September 14, 1926 in Brazil, IN he was born as the son of Roy and Edna (Diskin) Cole. Martin was preceded in death by is parents and a three brothers Norman, Louis and Jackie Jo Cole.

On January 29, 1949 in Terre Haute, IN he married the former Dolores Kirchner she preceded him in death on April 3, 1970.

On July 10, 1971 in Terre Haute, IN he married the former Joyce Powell.

Surviving Martin is his wife of thirty - six years Joyce, his six children, Kathy Field of Tucson, AZ, Deborah (Jack) Craig of Marshall, IL, Larry (Chris) Cole of Granger, Gary (Sue) Cole of Wakarusa, Rebecca (Chris) Dolson of Madison, WI, Thomas (Mary) Cole of Niles, MI.

Three stepchildren, David (Rhonda) Powell of Burleson TX, Bart (Kay) Powell of Sarasota, FL, Mike (Phyllis) Powell of Osceola. Three brothers Don Cole of Bamburg, SC, Leon (Pat) Cole of Louisville, KY, Cyril Cole of Mishawaka.

Two sisters, Ruth Edwards of Indianapolis, Mary (Ed) Fenton of Virginia. Forty–three grandchildren and Eighteen Great Grandchildren.

Martin was retired from A& P Supermarkets and Dorbins Super Market where he was a Meat Cutter. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. Martin was member of St. Joseph Catholic Church Mishawaka, Eagles Arie 208, V.F.W. Post 360 Mishawaka, American Legion Post161 in Mishawaka and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Mishawaka.

Family and friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday November 13th in the Hahn Funeral Home 505 W. 8th Street Mishawaka Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., in St. Joseph Catholic Church Mishawaka with Rev. Terry Fisher, Pastor, and Officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, with Military Rites preformed by V.F.W. Post 360 and American Legion Post 161 Burial Detail. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Martin’s memory to St. Joseph Catholic Church 225 S. Mill Street Mishawaka, IN 46544. m.

He was a treasure from America’s greatest generation. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was a man of great character and devotion to his family, his country, and his God.
