LIBERTY, MO. - William "Bill" J. Medley, 70, died March 18 at his home in Liberty. He was born May 3, 1930, in Tampa, the son of Cecil Lee and Josephine Elizabeth Miller Medley. He graduated from Durham High School. He married Georgia Ann Peters April 15, 1950, in Hillsboro. A resident of Liberty, he was an insurance agent for Hawkins Insurance Company in Edina, Mo., a n agent for Missouri Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company in Liberty, had managed local grain cooperatives in Arkansas City and represented Farmland Cooperatives in Liberty. Medley was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, served on the Pastor's Parish Committee, Liberty Rotary Club, board member of Great Bend Chamber of Commerce, Lion's Club in Durham and Toastmaster in Arkansas City. He served as youth directors for United Methodist Church in Arkansas City and Rockport, Mo. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Murray Kent and Mitchell K. Medley, both of Independence, Mo.; one brother, Soren Ray Medley of Wichita; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Kristi Jo Medley; one brother, J.L. Medley; one sister, Phyllis Medley; and his stepmother, Ann Medley. Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Liberty and at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. Burial will be at Hackler cemetery in Tampa. The family will receive friends from 8-9 a.m. Wednesday at the church in Liberty. Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. today at the Church Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty. Memorials are suggested to the Hospice Preferred Choice in Kansas City, Mo., or the church in Liberty, both in care of Bram Funeral Home in Gallatin, Mo.

Paul G. Ziegler 1927-2001
LYONS - Paul G. Ziegler, 74, died March 19 at Hutchinson Hospital. He was born March 15, 1927, at Willowdale, the son of George and Rose Thimesch Ziegler. He married Wanda J. Welsch Beydler on Sept. 14, 1963, in Lyons. She died Dec. 23, 2000. A resident of Lyons since 1963, he was a farmer, truck driver and roofing contractor. Ziegler was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Willowdale and Veterans of Foreign War of Lyons. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include three stepsons; Calvin L. Beydler of San Diego, Calif., Donald E. Beydler of Great Bend and Milton R. Beydler of Wiggins, Colo.; one stepdaughter; Joyce A. Link of Pawnee Rock; three brothers; Larry Ziegler of Lockbuie, Colo.; Lester Ziegler and Jerry Ziegler, both of Kingman; one sister; Rozella West of Kingman; eight step grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; and six step great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Eugene Ziegler and Carl Ziegler; and one sister; Evelyn Dane. Graveside services will at 11 a.m. Friday at Pawnee Rock cemetery. Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. Thursday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to Rice County Council on Aging, in care of the funeral home.

Matilda Scheuerman Schlegel 1904-2001
NORWALK, Calif. - Matilda Scheuerman Schlegel, 96, died March 16 at her home in California. She was born March 31, 1904, the daughter of J. Conard and Mary Elizabeth Stieben Scheuerman. She married Carl B. Schlegel Aug. 24, 1927, in Otis. He died June 22, 1985. A resident of Norwalk, coming from Minneola, she was a school teacher for LaMirada Unified School District in Norwalk. Survivors include one daughter; Janeanne Sue Schlegel of Lindsborg; and one brother, Ben F. Scheuerman of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by one brother, the Rev. Claude Scheuerman; and one sister, Alta L. Scheuerman. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Otis with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will be at the Methodist cemetery in Otis. Memorials are suggested to Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.

Marie A. Hampton 1919-2001
LARNED - Marie A. Hampton, 81, died March 19 at the Pratt Regional Medical Center in Pratt. She was born Aug. 18, 1919, in Pawnee County, the daughter of Garvin Henry and Minnie E. Sutton Elmore. She married Delbert Hampton. He died Dec. 16, 1982. She married John G. Hampton Jan. 1, 1986, at Pratt. He died Oct. 11, 1998. A resident of Pratt since 1986, she was a secretary for the Kansas Turnpike Authority. Mrs. Hampton was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both of Pratt. Survivors include two sisters; Jessie Novack of Offerle and Juliet Salmons of Benton. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned with the Rev. John Hester officiating. Burial will be at Larned cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association, both in care of the mortuary.

Alvin L. Ochs 1911-2001
Alvin L. Ochs, 89, of Great Bend died March 20 at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 13, 1911, in Barton County, the son of Jacob and Kathryn Ochs Ochs. He married Clara C. Dumler June 11, 1937, at Russell. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Hoisington, he was a farmer. Ochs was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ of Great Bend and a leader of Fairview Scouts 4-H Club of Galatia. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Lee Ochs of Overland Park and Bob Ochs of Hoisington; two daughters, Mary Luman of Overland Park and Carol Smith of West Milford, N.J.; one sister, Verna Rhorer of Alexandria, Va.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, J.B. Ochs; and two sisters, Florence Dumler and Emma Karst. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington with the Rev. Diana Coberly officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington cemetery. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, all at the funeral home. Margaret Louise Janousek 1931-2001
LACROSSE - Margaret Louise Janousek, 69, died March 20. She was born Nov. 15, 1931, in Great Bend, the daughter of Gerald and Mildred Glover Stowell. She was a 1949 graduate of Wichita High School. She married Jay Janousek Aug. 27, 1948, in Oklahoma. He died in April 1990. A resident of Rush County for 30 years, she was a licensed funeral director and co-owner of the Janousek Funeral Home in LaCrosse. Mrs. Janousek was a member of United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, La Crosse Chamber of Commerce and director of Friendship Meals, all of LaCrosse. Survivors include three sons, Jeff Janousek of Wichita, Craig Janousek of LaCrosse and Bobby Janousek of Larned; one brother, Jerry Stowell of Pembroke, Mass.; one sister, Geraldine Thornton of Lake Jackson, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church in LaCrosse with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will be at La Cross City cemetery. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse and from noon until service time Friday at the church. W.S. 'Bill' Southern 1918-2001
ELLINWOOD - W.S. 'Bill' Southern, 82, died March 20 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born Aug. 3, 1918, in Ness City, the son of William Leonard and Mabel Stephens Southern. He was a 1936 graduate of Ellinwood High School and he attended the University of Kansas from 1937-40. He married Helen Heidtbrink Oct. 25, 1942, in Portland, Ore. A resident of Ellinwood, he was an independent life insurance agent representing John Hancock and Transamerica Insurance companies for over 50 years. He served two terms as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives from 1973-76, representing the 113th District. Southern was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ellinwood, Kappa Sigma Fraternity of the University of Kansas, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Wheat Bowl Foundation, all of Ellinwood; was a member of Great Bend Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, the Kansas Calvary and the Kansas Underwriters Association. He was a 1959 member of the Million Dollar Roundtable for his insurance company. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II. Survivors include wife of Wichita; one son, Bill Southern of Hutchinson; two daughters, Joan Pivonka of Ellinwood and Nancy Bommer of Deer Harbor, Wash.; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert E. Southern; and one grandson, Ryan Pivonka. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church in Ellinwood with the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, all at Kimple Funeral Home of Ellinwood. Larry Schmidt 1942-2001
ELLSWORTH - Larry Schmidt, 58, died March 20 at the Salina Regional Medical Center-Santa Fe Campus. He was born May 14, 1942, in Hays, the son of George J. and Katherine Breit Schmidt. He married Nancy Carder Sept. 8, 1962, in Salina. A resident of Ellsworth, coming from Salina, he was owner/operator of Ellsworth Printing Company. Schmidt was a fourth-degree knight, past grand knight and past knight of the year of the Knights of Columbus; an original founder in 1976 and committee member of the Ellsworth "Cowtown Days," portraying Sheriff Chauncey B. Whitney for 25 years; organized Ellsworth's recreational baseball and men's softball programs, was a Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce board member, chamber of commerce citizen of the year in 1992, grand marshall of the Cowtown Parade in 1991 and 2000. He served as a Department of Corrections Ellsworth Correctional Facility committee member, Ellsworth Fire Department volunteer and board member of J.H. Robbins Memorial Library in Ellsworth. Survivors include wife of the home; one son, Gary W. Schmidt of Ellsworth; three daughters, Keri Ann Katzenmeier of Geneseo, Pamela L. Schmidt of McPherson and Stacie J. Schmidt of Salina; three brothers, LeRoy Schmidt of New Cambria, and Kenneth Schmidt and Virgil Schmidt, both of Salina; three sisters, Viola Baxter and Patricia Perry, both of Salina, and Sister Lila Schmidt of Concordia; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Wilbert Schmidt; and four sisters, Esther Youngdahl, Lillian Shubert, Sister Ann Clare Schmidt and Mary Rose Pfeifer. Vigil beginning at 7 tonight at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Ellsworth with the Revs. Daniel Scheetz and Paul Oborney officiating. Burial will be at Ellsworth Memorial cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or Salina Regional Health Center Penn Campus Physical Therapy Department, both in care of the funeral home.

Rowena Harriet Lindgren 1909-2001
LARNED - Rowena Harriet Lindgren, 91, died March 21 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus Long Term Care in Larned. She was born Nov. 18, 1909, in Bennington, the daughter of Jason Percival and Clara Shultice Crow. She married Clyde Stanley Lindgren April 20, 1930, in Salina. He died March 29, 1968. A resident of Larned, coming from Wichita, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Lindgren was a member of Zion Methodist Church in Wichita. Survivors include one niece, Marty Buster of Larned. She was preceded in death by one infant son, Clyde Stanley Jr.; two brothers, Ralph Crow and Joe Crow; five sisters, Winafred Hake, Wilma Barnes, Ura Vivian Eubank, Reba Johnston and Margaret Crow. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bennington cemetery with the Rev. Jim Hawthorne officiating. Friends may call until 5 tonight at the Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

Ruby J. Timmons 1909-2001
ST. JOHN - Ruby J. Timmons, 91, died March 21 at Stafford District Hospital. She was born June 20, 1909, in Geneseo, the daughter of Jesse and Anna Jeannette Collinge. She was a 1926 graduate of Geneseo High School. She married Lawrence E. Timmons July 26, 1927, in Lyons. He died March 28, 1997. A resident of St. John, coming from Cherokee Village, Ark., and Bushton, she was homemaker. Mrs. Timmons was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Rebekah Lodge, all of St. John; and a life member of the National Parent Teacher Association. Survivors include one son, Darrol H. Timmons of Richland, Wash.; one daughter, Marlyn J. Atkinson of St. John; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Tom Collinge; and two sisters, Rose Dobrinski and Kate Handlin. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Minnis Chapel in St. John with the Revs. W. Harlan Rittgers and Ron Miller officiating. Burial will be at 12:15 p.m. Saturday at Geneseo cemetery. Friends may call until 7 tonight at the chapel. Lillie Elizabeth Burk Klein 1919-2001
LA CROSSE - Lillie Elizabeth Burk Klein, 81, died March 21 at Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. She was born Nov. 6, 1919, in Alexander, the daughter of Russell and Mae Link Burk. She married Lester Klein July 9, 1938, in Great Bend. He died July 9, 1998. A resident of La Crosse, coming from Bison, she was a housekeeper for Rush County Hospital. Mrs. Klein was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Holyrood. Survivors include three sons, Billy Klein of Canon City, Colo., Ron Klein of Holyrood and Mel Klein of Bison; three daughters, Lola Duffey of Aurora, Colo., Marilyn Mantz of Bazine and Marsha Klein of Greensburg; two brothers, Cecil Burk of Rush Center and Don Burk of New Iberia, La.; one sister, Audrey Burton of Frisco, Texas; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. today at United Methodist Church in Bison, with the Rev. Kathy Bannister officiating. Friends may call until service time today at the church. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or St. Paul United Church of Christ in Holyrood, both in care of Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City.

Frank D. 'Butch' Bezemek 1947-2001
LEAVENWORTH - Frank D. 'Butch' Bezemek, 53, died Jan. 19 at the Veterans Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. He was born March 6, 1947, in Stafford, the son of Frank and Vada Bezemek. He was a 1965 graduate of Bushton High School. He attended Pratt Community College. He married Roberta Gibison in 1967. A resident of Houston, Texas, coming from Frederick, he was a purchasing and parts manager for HB Zachry Company. Bezemek was an Eagle Scout. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1970. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Amanda Bezemek and Lysa Bezemek of Portland, Ore.; his mother, Vada Bezemek of Olathe; his father and stepmother, Frank and Laura Bezemek of Frederick; one sister, Lucille Rockett of Olathe. He is interned at Leavenworth National cemetery.

Musetta Curtis 1927-2001
STAFFORD - Musetta Curtis, 73, died March 22 at her home in Stafford. She was born Oct. 20, 1927, in Stafford, the daughter of Merle Ray and Maggie Priscilla Morlan Yingst. She married Jack Tedder Curtis June 1, 1945, in Stafford. He died May 13, 2000. A resident of Stafford, she was a homemaker and co-owner of Curtis Cafe. Mrs. Curtis was a member of First United Methodist Church of Stafford, Sunday School teacher and a member of the American Bell Association. Survivors include three daughters, Cindy Creager of LaCygne, Ruth Wiltshire and Barb New, both of Stafford; one brother, Victor Yingst of Crosby, Texas; one sister, Willa Buehler of McAllen, Texas; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford with the Rev. Kasey Crosby officiating. Burial will be at Stafford cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today at the chapel. Matthew James 'Matt' Bond 1988-2001
LAWTON, Okla. - Matthew James 'Matt' Bond, 12, died March 22 at Lawton Hospital. He was born Aug. 5, 1988, in Great Bend, the son of Barry and Janie Bond. He attended Central Junior High School in Lawton. He was a resident of Lawton, coming from Kentucky. Bond was a member of Dayspring Community Church of Lawton and was a Cub Scout. He played football, soccer and track while being involved in leadership courses at Taft Academy and being a member of the Rifle Drill Team, all in Lawton. Survivors include his parents of the home; one brother, Jeremiah Bond of the home; grandparents, Dennis E. Bond of Missouri, Shirley Sanders of Colorado, James E. and Betty J. West of Fresno, Calif.; and two great-grandmothers, Lucille Nichols of St. John and Marjorie McVey of Larned. Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Frontier Chapel Center at Fort Sill in Lawton, with the Rev. Chris Stephens officiating. Burial will at the Post cemetery at Fort Sill. Funeral arrangements were handled Becker Funeral Home in Lawton.
