MARY DURST

Mary Durst, 98, Richmond, Thursday, June 7, 2007 at the Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center LLC, Richmond. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapels, Garnett.

She was born Oct. 19, 1908, at Colony to George Marion and Lola (Serene) Fagg.

She received a teacher's certificate.

She married Ralph Durst November, 1930, at Iola. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons Clyde Durst, Welda, and Kenneth "Gene" Durst, Hutchinson; a brother, George Fagg, El Dorado; a sister, Georgie Moore, Centerville; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by brothers, Tommy Fagg, Marion Fagg and Rhoderick Fagg; and sisters, Lola Williams and Faustina Fagg.

Burial will be at Welda Cemetery, Welda.

ALFRED RUDOLPH JAHN

Alfred Rudolph Jahn, 89, Ottawa, died Thursday, May 31, 2007, at Colmery-O'Neill Veterans Medical Center, Topeka. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

He was born April 4, 1918, at Dresden, Germany to George Eugene and Emma Bertha (Ullbrich) Jahn.

He lived in Germany until he was 13 when he moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1931. He moved to Westfield, N.J., in 1961, Valatie, N.Y. in 1973, and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1985. He moved to Ottawa in 1988.

He attended schools in Germany and Brooklyn, N.Y.

He was a member of the United States Army from April 30, 1942, to Dec. 24, 1945. He attained the rank of Private First Class. He served in Luzon, New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. He received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon and American Service Medal.

He was a member of Camp Elsinor, N.J. As a youth he was part of Turn Verein, Brooklyn, N.Y.

He worked as a lithographer at Local One Amalgamated Lithograph of America, New York, N.Y. He retired in 1982.

He married Ruth Elizabeth Zemke Aug. 24, 1956, at Westlock, Alberta, Canada. She survives.

Survivors also include daughters, Heidi A. Cleary, and her husband, Steven, Olathe, and Christa R. Jahn, Ottawa; son, Jochen A. Jahn, and his wife, Vicki, Ottawa; grandsons, Jared Brent Cleary, Ottawa, and Josiah Jochen Alfred James Jahn; granddaughters, Jessica Brooke Cleary, Carla Ruth Elizabeth Jahn, Jocelyn Marie Elizabeth Jahn and Johannah Mae Jahn.

He was preceded in death by brother, Erhart Jahn, and sisters, Irmgard Ross, Frieda Ullrich and Irma Bertha Jahn.

Friends may pay their respects from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Disabled American Veterans in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St. Ottawa KS 66067.

DONNA BELLE McKENZIE

WAVERLY -- Donna Bell McKenzie, 77, Waverly, died Thursday, June 7, 2007, at Newman Regional Health Center, Emporia.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

She was born July 24, 1929, to Lloyd E. and Lena Irene (Seyler) Dilts at Welda. She graduated from Wellsville High School in 1947, and attended nursing school in Kansas City.

She married John E. McKenzie Aug. 11, 1948, in Joplin, Mo. They were later divorced.

She had lived in Topeka but lived in the Ottawa and Pomona area since 1963 until 1985, when she moved to Waverly.

She was a member of the Waverly First Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, John R. and Patricia McKenzie, Overbrook, James R. and Joyce McKenzie, Ottawa, Terry A. and Janice McKenzie, Eudora, and Chris and Dina McKenzie, Lafayette, Tenn.; a daughter, Marsha Vedder, Inman; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitors may pay their respects from 2 p.m. Monday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet visitors from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to the Donna McKenzie Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067.

BRUCE C. STARKS

Bruce C. Starks, 72, Ottawa, died Monday, June 4, 2007, at Village Manor Nursing Home, Ottawa. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.

He was born June 13, 1935, at Austin, Texas, to Isiah Ramirez and Jihnnie Ray Starks-Gillum.

He grew up in Waco, Texas. He lived in Lawrence and Ottawa.

He graduated from Lawrence High School. He attended the University of Kansas and Emporia State University.

He was a member of St. Paul AME Church, Ottawa, and the Alpha Psi Alpha fraternity at the University of Kansas. He served several terms as president of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch No. 585.

He worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, Ottawa, from 1964 until retirement Oct. 2, 1992.

He married Kellma Harvey June 12, 1955, at Ottawa. She preceded him in death Aug. 22, 1998.

Survivors include daughters, Stacey Ezekwe, Leverkusen, Germany, Stephanie Greer, Kansas City, Mo., and Sicily Ford, and her husband, Todd, Lawrence; son, Bruce S. Starks, and his wife, Andrea, St. Joseph, Mo.; granddaughters, Merranda Smitherman, Carmen Starks-Cowper and Autumn Starks; grandsons, Karl Silvey, Nkemdirim Ezekwe, Brewster Gaines, Cameron Starks-Cowper and Leyton Starks; and great-granddaughter, Tristan Warner-Silvey.

Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

Friends may pay their respects after 10 a.m. Thursday at the mortuary. The family will meet friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

SHERRY LEE HAAG

Sherry Lee Haag, 55, loving daughter, sister mother and grandmother, who retired from Spirit Aerosystems in 2007, went to be with the Lord June 14, 2007, after a battle with Multiple Myloma.

Visitation will be from from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St., Wichita.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Lakeview Funeral Home. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa,

Sherry graduated from high school in Iola, Kan., in 1969.

Sherry will be remembered for her giving spirit and her beautiful voice. She is greatly loved and will be sadly missed, until her loved ones join her in Heaven. Her faith was great and touched many lives.

Loved ones left behind include her mother and step-father, Mary and Dick Tice of Ottawa; father; Clayton Haag of Haysville, Kan.; sons; Scott Gardner and wife Bobbie, and Jerod Bundy, both of Wichita; seven grandchildren; Leeya, Isaiah, Josiah Gardner, Cassondra, Jonah, Jacob, and Sophia Bundy, all of Wichita; brothers; Clayton and wife Dorothy Haag, Mike and wife Christie Haag and their children, all of Ottawa. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.

Mrs. Bonnie Jean McClelland
October 4, 1927 - January 15, 2009

Thornton, Colorado - McClelland, Bonnie J. 81 died January 15 2009. Visitation Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday January 23 in the chapel at Lakeview Funeral Home and Mausoleum. In Wichita ( does your address go here?) Preceding her in death are her parents Carl and Anna Ericson, one baby brother, 5 sisters, a great grandson, and her husband Kenneth. She is survived by her daughter Lynda DeHaven of Thornton Co, son Craig and Ruth Heitsman of BelAire Ks, a sister Irene Vossman of Tulsa Ok, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

JOE COX

Joe Cox, 80, Ottawa, died Sunday, June 3, 2007, at Mount Carmel Regional Medial Center, Pittsburg. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.

He was born Sept. 4, 1926, at Kansas City, Mo., to Richard L. and Mary E. (Williams) Cox.

He lived in the Lee's Summit, Mo., and Kansas City areas before he moved to Ottawa. He moved to Pittsburg earlier this year.

He was a member of the United States Navy as a chief petty officer from 1943 to 1950 in the Pacific Theater on several different ships.

He was a 25-year member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial Post No. 5901 and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie Lodge No. 2700, both of Ottawa.

He worked as a residential and commercial construction worker working mostly with concrete flatwork. He also worked as maintenance supervisor at Chapel Woods Golf Course, Lee's Summit, Mo., for 13 years. He retired in 1985.

He married Lenetta Cooley Aug. 7, 1948, at Kansas City, Mo. They divorced. He married Dorothy Johnson Dec. 20, 1976, at Miami, Okla. She preceded him in death Jan. 4, 1994. He married Audrey Jones in 1998 at Miami, Okla. She survives.

Survivors also include a stepson, James Johnson; a son, Al Cox, and his wife, Violet, Kansas City, Mo.; daughters, Patty Ridenour and Ellen Rakestraw, both of Pittsburg, and Janice Hackley, and her husband, Scott, Odessa, Mo.; stepson, Virgil Johnson, and his wife Donna, Pittsburg; stepdaughters, Clara Brunner, and her husband, Roger, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Virginia Slaughter, Independence, Theresa Jasso, and her husband, Richard, Pittsburg, and Rhonda Rogers, Pittsburg; sister, Shirley McKay, Ottawa; brothers, Arthur Cox, and his wife, Barbara, Garden City, Mo., Bob Cox, Buffalo, Mo., Larry Cox, and his wife, Maureen, and Fred Cox; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by brothers, Mosie Cox and Bill Cox; and sisters, Mary Leach, Viola Coffman and Nadine Blankenship.

Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

Friends may pay their respects from 10 a.m. Wednesday to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
