Marguerite Ruth Hubbard
HUGOTON - Marguerite Ruth Hubbard, 93, died Jan. 30, 2000, at Stevens County Hospital, Hugoton.

She was born Aug. 5, 1906, in Webster County, Neb., the daughter of Jesse Edward and Anna Ruth Gauss Wagoner. She graduated from Hastings (Neb.) High School and attended McPherson College, graduating in 1931 after fulfilling a teaching contract in Monument. She was a schoolteacher, homemaker and co-owner and society editor of the Hugoton Hermes.

She was a member of First Christian Church, where she was a pianist and Sunday school teacher for 30 years, the Federated Women's Club, AAUW, and local, state and national newspaper organizations. She was a Girl Scout leader for 13 years.

On Aug. 30, 1929, she married W. Wendell Hubbard at Garden City. He died Aug. 23, 1996.

Survivors include: a son, William Dennis, Boulder, Colo.; a daughter, LaFaughn Hancock, Ellensburg, Wash.; a brother, Charles Wagoner, Redding, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Alice Ramsey, Bremerton, Wash., and Eloise Taylor, Albion, Neb.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church with Kevin Yoakum officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the church, in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.

Reuben D. Koehn
DODGE CITY - Reuben D. Koehn, 79, died Feb. 1, 2000, at Western Plains Regional Hospital, Dodge City.

He was born Oct. 9, 1920, at Isabella, Okla., the son of Dan and Lydia Schmidt Koehn. A Dodge City resident since 1940, moving from McPherson, he was the owner and operator of several area businesses.

He was a member of Faith Mennonite Church, Montezuma, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

On Sept. 19, 1939, he married Frances Smith at Kinsley. She survives.

Other survivors include: four sons, Richard and Wes, both of Dodge City, Larry, Tulsa, Okla., and Marty, Sioux City, Iowa; two daughters, Vernia Omey, Alva, Okla., and Connie Scott, Cimarron; three sisters, Edna Harrison and Erma McReynolds, both of California, and Martha Smith, Dodge City; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Faith Mennonite Church, Montezuma, with the Rev. Val Krehbiel presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Burkhart Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Burial will be in North Mennonite Cemetery, Montezuma.

Memorials may be sent to Good Samaritan Center, in care of the funeral chapel.

Robin E. Mason Anderson
LYONS - Robin E. Mason Anderson, 46, died Feb. 1, 2000, at Berryville, Ark.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons.

Genevieve Hope McElwain
PONCA CITY, Okla. - Genevieve Hope McElwain, 94, died Jan. 31, 2000, at Shawn Manor Nursing Home, Ponca City.

She was born Oct. 5, 1905, at Burrton, the daughter of Alonzo Burton and Carra Gertrude Hamma Giggy. A Burrton area resident for 55 years before moving to Newton in 1958, she was a Ponca City resident since 1995. She was a clerk for the Harvey County ASCS office.

She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Newton, the National Secretaries Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, Friendship Circle, Burrton, and the NARFE.

On June 24, 1925, she married Fearl C. McElwain at McPherson. He died in 1954.

Survivors include: a son, David, Liberal; a daughter, Ann Vap, Ponca City; two brothers, Karl "Pete, " Houston, and Gordon Giggy, Woodstock, Calif.; two sisters, Elizabeth Armstrong, Derby, and Jean Shaft, Burrton; 10 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Cecil; two brothers, Keith and Kenneth Giggy; and two sisters, Bernice Ragland and Wilda Dunn.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Halstead, with the Rev. James Mardock presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead. Burial will be in Halstead Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Ponca City, in care of the funeral home.

Herschel R. Walls
ULYSSES - Herschel R. Walls, 44, died Jan. 30, 2000, at his home in rural Grant County.

He was born Oct. 18, 1955, at Ulysses, the son of Charles C. and Betty J. Carter Walls. He was a graduate of Ulysses High School and Southwest Technical School at Liberal, graduating as a diesel mechanic. A lifetime Ulysses resident, he had farmed and was a bus mechanic for USD 214 at Ulysses.

He was a member of Shelton Memorial Christian Church, and the Grant County Sheriff's Department Reserves, both at Ulysses.

Survivors include: his parents, Ulysses; three sisters, Marta Jackson, Deming, N.M., Mary Hamlin, Garden City, and Barbara Clark, Hutchinson; grandmother, Bernice Carter, Ulysses; and nephews and nieces.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, with the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the donor's choice in care of the funeral home, 405 West Grant, Ulysses, 67880.

Maxine H. Phillips
GREAT BEND - Maxine H. Phillips, 77, died Feb. 1, 2000, at Great Bend.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Fryberger Mortuary, Great Bend.

Aline Erma Metcalf
BUCKLIN - Aline Erma Metcalf, 82, died Feb. 1, 2000, at Hilltop House, Bucklin.

She was born April 22, 1917, at Mullinville, the daughter of John W. and Effie M. Hall Price. A former resident of El Dorado, moving to Bucklin in March 1998, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of Glendale Friends Church and was Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge No. 566, Leon.

On May 11, 1959, she married Alvin Metcalf at Miami, Okla. He died July 7, 1997.

Survivors include: a sister, Pauline Staats, Bucklin.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Price; and three sisters, Venetta Siemens, Leota Sharp and infant Mary Price.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Sunset Lawn Cemetery, El Dorado, with the Rev. Jim Pollom presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Minnis Mortuary, Bucklin.

Memorials may be sent to Hilltop House Nursing Home, in care of the mortuary, Box 516, Bucklin, KS 67834.

Virginia Stiffler Maxine Hicks
DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. - Virginia Maxine Stiffler Hicks, 67, died Jan. 31, 2000, at Atlanta Medical Center, Atlanta, Ga.

She was born Oct. 28, 1932, at Broughton, the daughter of Roy Merritt and Bessie Ann Waldon Stiffler. A resident of Douglasville, Ga., formerly of Hutchinson and Broughton, she was employed in retail sales at Wal-Mart.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church, Douglasville, and the Glory Sunday school class.

Survivors include: a son, Jerry, Oklahoma City; two daughters, Martha Boyd, Douglasville, and Judith Brown, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Central Baptist Church, Douglasville, with the Revs. Ronnie Davis and Garry Eudy presiding. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. The body will lie in state from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Junction City.

Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Douglas Chapel, Douglasville, is in charge of arrangements.
