Jack Clements
NORWICH - Jack Clements, 69, died Jan. 12, 2005, at Hillcrest Hospital, Waco, Texas.

He was born Sept. 12, 1935, at Wichita, the son of Neil and Janette Rogers Clements. A resident of Norwich and Mission, Texas, he was a retired from Yellow Freight, was owner of Rainbow Fireworks Inc. and was Kansas State Fair grandstand concessionaire coordinator.

On Feb. 6, 1954, he married Marion Mabry at Wichita. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Lloyd, Norwich; a daughter, Grace VanGieson, Norwich; a brother, Robert L., Wichita; two sisters, Nora Reed, Wichita and Donna Paasch, Wellington; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William N., Richard D. and Carl Clements; and a sister, Deanna Thomas.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lanterman Funeral Home, Cheney, with Kevin Birdwell presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Upchurch Cemetery, Norwich.

Memorials may be sent to the Norwich EMT's or to the American Heart Association, both in care of the funeral home.

JoDean Spurlock
LAKEWAY, TEXAS - JoDean Whitacre Spurlock, 78, passed away peaceably Tuesday evening, Jan. 11, 2005, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Feb. 3, 1926, at Great Bend, the daughter of Joseph and Hazel Whitacre.

JoDean attended The Oklahoma College for Women in 1944/1945 and was graduated from Phillips University, Enid, Okla. in 1949. She taught music at the elementary and high school level in Minneapolis, from 1949 - 1950. She sang on the first televised broadcast in the state of Oklahoma in 1948. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota and National Honor Sorority (Cardinal Key). She taught 1st grade and 6th grade in Hutchinson, Kansas City, Mo., and Dallas. She directed Children's Choirs and devoted volunteer time to the literacy of children.

Survivors include: her husband of 54 years, Charles Franklin Spurlock, Lakeway, Texas.; a son Charles W. Spurlock; two daughters Carolyn Giffen and Nancy Traynor; and grandchildren Charles Daniel, Scott D., and J. Ryan Giffen and Kimberly Traynor.

Funeral service will be held at The Lakeway Church, 2203 Lakeway Blvd., on Monday, January 17th. A viewing will commence at 1 p.m. A service celebrating her life will start at 2 p.m. Interment will be at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, on Tuesday, January 18th at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Lakeway Church, Lakeway, Texas, in care of Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas 78705, (512) 452-8811.

Ernest C. Ehrlich
Ernest Carl "Ernie" Ehrlich, 80, died Jan. 14, 2005, at Good Samaritan Center, Hutchinson.

He was born July 1, 1924, at Russell County, the son of Carl and Amelia "Mollie" Reissig Ehrlich.

He was a resident of Hutchinson since 2003, moving from Russell.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

Survivors include: two sisters, Matilda "Tillie" Nightingale, Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada, and Elsie Okland, Rifle, Colo.; and a half sister, Lorene Borger, Evert, Wash.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Edwin, John, Chester and Leo Ehrlich; two sisters, Elfreda Johann and Frances Holthoefer; a half brother, Wilbert Ehrlich; and a half sister Dora Lee Truan.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no services.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or to the American Diabetes Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Troy L. Hupka
GALVA - Troy L. Hupka, 40, died Jan. 13, 2005, at Galva.

He was born May 4, 1964, at Tecumseh, Neb., the son of Ralph Francis and Dianne Marie Husing Hupka. A resident of Galva since 1994, formerly of McPherson, he was a quality assurance manager for AGCO Corp, Hesston.

He belonged to Veteran of Foreign Wars Post No. 2715, McPherson, and the National Rifle Association. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during Desert Storm.

Survivors include: his mother and stepfather, Dianne and Clint Williams, McPherson; a son, Scott Alan, of the home; three daughters, Trina Nicole, Ashley Rene and Heather Lynn Hupka, all of the home; a brother, Todd A. Rider, Wichita; two sisters, Theresa Rina Joseph, McPherson, and Pamela Marie Blades, Little River; and grandparents, William H. Husing, McPherson, and Lucille Hupka, Tecumseh, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Bible Church, McPherson, with the Rev. Richard Duerksen presiding. Cremation is planned. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Hupka Children's Scholarship Fund or the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, both in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

Lillian V. Broccoli
Lillian Virginia Broccoli, 80, died Jan. 13, 2005, at Wesley Towers, Hutchinson.

She was born July 25, 1924, at Manhattan, the daughter of Archie Elmer and Florence Ann Padgett Cole. A resident of Hutchinson since 1996, formerly of Junction City, she was a retired area supervisor for Wendy's Restaurants and was also a banquet manager for several restaurants in New Jersey and Florida. She was the first female supervisor for Roy Roger's Restaurant at Menlo Park, N.J. Lillian's passion was her work.

She belonged to St. Teresa's Catholic Church and Daughters of the American Revolution.

In 1941, she married Clarence Austin Scott at El Paso, Texas. He preceded her in death. In 1958, she married Antonio Broccoli at Seekonk, Mass. He died June 18, 1974.

Survivors include: three daughters, Ruth Ann Bronson and her husband Louis, Toni Gilda Maria Coupland, all of Hutchinson, and Honey Darlene Grant, Junction City; a sister, Freddie Bohnstedt and husband Charles, Hutchinson; a half-sister, Darlene Kelly, Olean, N.Y.; step-siblings, Nancy Babcock, Chicago, Max and Richard Baire, Olean, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

Cremation has taken place. Rosary and Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Hutchinson, with Father Stuart Smeltzer presiding. A private inurnment will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Kansas in care of Penwell-Gabel's Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson.

Richard S. Alexander
ALDEN - Richard Scott "Alex" Alexander, 58, died Feb. 10, 2005, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

He was born July 11, 1946, at Wichita. A resident of Alden since 1996, he graduated from Windom High School in 1964. He was a retired captain for the Lansing, Mich., Fire Department.

He belonged to Alden Baptist Church. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1969.

Survivors include: a son, James Alexander, Clinton, Mich.; a stepfather, Harold Alexander, McPherson; a brother, Donald Alexander, Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Nancy Decker, Watkinsville, Ga.; a stepbrother, Robert Alexander, McPherson; and a stepsister, Trudy Helms, McPherson.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Alexander; a brother, Michael Alan Alexander; and a son, Matthew Scott Alexander.

Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, Alden Baptist Church or to the Lansing, Mich. Fire Department, in care of the funeral home.

Minnie J. Dean
Minnie J. "Mickey" Dean, 99, died Feb. 11, 2005, at Golden Plains Health Care Center, Hutchinson.

She was born Oct. 19, 1905, at Ellsworth, the daughter of Herman and Minnie Felix Huseman. She graduated from Ellsworth High School. A Hutchinson resident since 1943, moving from Dodge City, she was a retired sales clerk at Montgomery Ward and Wiley's Department Store; a dietician's assistant at Grace Hospital; and Student Union Superintendent at Hutchinson Community College, retiring in 1988.

Survivors include: two sons, Carl Proctor Dean and his wife Patsy, Wilmington, Ohio and Donald Dean and his wife Betty, Hutchinson; six grandchildren, Beverly Rodgers and her husband Adrian, Haysville, Rodney Dean and his wife Jenny, Houston, Texas, Terry Dean and his wife Rayne, Hutchinson, Rhonda Harvey, Cottonwood, Ariz., Susan Nierenberg and Nancy Dean, both of Baltimore, Md.; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.

Private family graveside services will be held in Penwell-Gable's Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Elliott Mortuary. The casket will be closed.

Memorials may be sent to the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

Margaret E. Le Hew
DODGE CITY - Margaret E. Le Hew, 88, died Feb. 11, 2005, at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.

She was born Oct. 26, 1916, at Dodge City, the daughter of Ross H. and Helen M. Spicer Bangs. A lifetime Dodge City resident, she attended Dodge City High School, Dodge City Junior College and the University of Kansas.

She belonged to First Presbyterian Church, Dodge City, PEO and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

On Nov. 25, 1937, she married Robert C. Le Hew at Dodge City. He died Aug. 20, 1999.

Survivors include: four daughters, Linda Munson, Prairie du Chien, Wis., Cynthia Hall, Naperville, Ill., Vivian Le Hew, Des Moines, Iowa, and Virginia Kasten, Glenn Ellyn, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter and a great-grandson.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, with the Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Trinity Center, in care of the funeral home.

Robert L. Witt
SALINA - Robert Lee "Bud" Witt, 76, died Nov. 12, 2004, at Salina Regional Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 29, 1928, at Walker. He was a 17-year resident of Downs, formerly of Gorham.

He belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Gorham.

Survivors include: a brother, Donald Witt, Hays; four sisters, Doris M. Dreiling, Gorham, Twila Mae Froelich, Russell, Betty Ann Wall, Wichita, and Alice Presti, Waltham, Mass.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold.

Rosary will be 1:15 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Gorham. Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Gorham.

Memorials may be sent to the church or Downs Nursing Center, both in care of Cline's Mortuary, Victoria.

Lorriane B. Hadsell
MARION - Lorraine B. Hadsell, 95, died Nov. 14, 2004, at St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

She was born Oct. 4, 1909, at Ashland. A Marion resident since the late 1940s, coming from Sterling, she was a teacher, banker and owner of a craft store.

She belonged to Marion Presbyterian Church.

She married LaVern Hadsell. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include: a daughter, Louise Colburn, Marion; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Marion Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Keith Allison presiding. Casket will be closed during service, and there will be no visitation. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the church, St. Luke Hospital or Marion Historical Museum, all in care of the funeral home.
