Mary M. Dalsing

Mary M. Dalsing, 85, of Seneca died on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Crestview Nursing & Residential Living.
Mary was born on May 10, 1928 to John and Olivia Knipp Claas, in Tipton, Missouri. Olivia passed away shortly after Mary’s birth. Mary grew up in the Tipton community and helped on the family farm until she graduated from Tipton High in 1946. In 1950, Mary moved to Seneca, Kansas where she met and married Kenneth Dalsing on February 6, 1951 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The couple resided in the city of Seneca. Kenny and Mary celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Mary enjoyed many of her children’s formative years caring for them at home. In later years, she became employed at Crestview Manor; at JCPenney until the closing of the store and at Shelter Insurance before she retired.
Mary was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society. She enjoyed playing cards with family, ceramics, tending flowers and bowling on a league team. She sewed many articles of clothing for her family over the years and she loved to try new recipies.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; daughters, Nancy (Dan) Hermreck of Lawrence, Kansas, JoAnn (Dan) Wempe, Patricia (Shelton) Jones both of Seneca; sons, Wayne (Cindi) Dalsing of Yorkville, Illinois and Bruce (Andrea) Dalsing of Oswego, Illinois; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Catherine Schreck; brothers, Richard, Harold, Louis, Ed, Arthur, Charles, David; by a grandson, Christopher Wempe on May 12, 2008; and by a great-granddaughter, Olive Fleming on March 6, 2014.
A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday, April 15th 6 PM at Lauer Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at1 PM at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, with burial in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the local charity, Coins for a Cause which is assistance to local cancer patients.

Edwin C. Deters

Edwin Charles Deters, 18, of Rural Baileyville, died May 18, 1987, shortly after his arrival at the Nemaha valley Community Hospital. His death was the results of his injuries he suffered in an accident with his pickup truck.
Ed was born September 22, 1968, in Seneca, the son of Merlin L. and Judy Kohake Deters. He grew up on the family farm on the west side of Baileyville where he helped with the Grade A dairy operation.
He attended #451, B & B School where he was a senior where he was going to graduate. Ed played basketball and football, where he was named all-league player.
For the past several weeks, he had worked at Industrial Millwork, where he helped manufactured wood doors. In the industrial arts class at school he enjoyed woodworking and made both a grandfather and a grandmother clock, drawing out his own plans.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart church and the CYO of which he had severed as the vice-president, Ed was a outgoing friendly young man who was well liked by everyone.
Survivors besides his parents are two brothers Damian Deters and Terry Deters, and three sisters Pamela Deters, Anna Deters and Katie Deters all of the home. Ed is also survived by his grandparents Daniel and Mary Kohake of Centralia.
The Mass and Christian Burial will be a double services for Edwin Deters and Ronald Duryea, a victim of the same accident will be Wednesday, May 20, 1987 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville. Burial was in the Sacred HeartCemeteryin Baileyville. A rosary will be prayed at 1 P.M. on Monday for Edwin Deters and Ronald Duryea is for the students and faculty of B&B High School. There will be a rosary at 8P.M. for the community at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Burial was in the Sacred HeartCemeteryin Baileyville.

Florence M. Deters

Florence Mary Elizabeth (Ronnebaum) Deters, 84, of Centralia, KS, died late Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at Brandon Woods nursing center in Lawrence.
She was born on April 4, 1927 at Oneida, KS, the daughter of Clem and Anna Strathman Ronnebaum. She attended school at Old Victor 99 in Oneida, Kansas.
Florence married Joseph G. Deters on February 14, 1953 in Seneca, KS. They lived their entire married life on a farm four miles west of Centralia, KS. They celebrated 45 years of marriage before Joe preceded her in death on January 11, 1999. They raised five children, Mary Ann, Jolene, Cindy, Connie and Jerry.
Florence was a farm wife all her life but she also worked outside the home, including the Onaga sewing factory, the County Home and Life Care nursing home. She and Joe worked together at the Centralia School after their children left home. After Joe’s death she worked with her daughter Cindy for years at Schreiner’s Diner making pies and cookies and helping in the kitchen, which she dearly loved.
After Florence and Joe married they attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville. In later years, they returned to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Florence was a member of the Altar Society, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Keenagers.
Florence had many special interests and activities. She had a true love and passion for sewing and hand quilting. She was especially proud of the quilt she was asked to hand-make for Attorney General Bob Stephens’ retirement gift. She created over 200 quilts for people all over the United States. She also crocheted doilies, made comforters and baby blankets. She would get so excited to find new flannel fabric designs. When her granddaughters were young, she loved sewing clothes and blankets for their Cabbage Patch dolls.
Florence was well known in Nemaha County for her baking and cooking skills. Everyone enjoyed her "lovers knots" and pies. She raised a big garden every year and enjoyed canning.
Florence also had a love for music. Her dad bought her a piano when she was in fourth grade which she still owned and loved to play. There was always music in her home, especially around the holidays when all the kids and grandkids were there. They would all gather around the piano and sing along while her husband Joe would dance around the room, usually with one of the grandkids in his arms. She also played the accordion and the guitar.
Survivors are four daughters, Mary Ann (Glenn) Deck of Lawrence, KS, Jolene (Larry) Fairchild of Overbrook, KS, Cindy (Tom) Schreiner of Portland, OR and Connie (Bob) Fisher of Centralia, KS; a son, Jerry (Laura) Deters of Princeton, KS; a sister, Helen Heinen of Seneca; a brother, Bill Ronnebaum of Seneca; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband Joe, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry, Vince, Sylvester "Bud, " and Melvin Ronnebaum; an infant sister, Frances Ronnebaum; and sisters, Evelyn Hammes and Katherine Rettele.
Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM on Friday, November 25, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 26, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Florence’s final resting place will be next to her loving husband in Sts. Peter & Paul CatholicCemeteryin Seneca.
Memorials may be given for the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Cemetery, or for Masses for Florence and Joe.

Joseph G. "Joe" Deters

Joseph G. "Joe" Deters, 79, of Centralia, Kansas died Monday, January 11, 1999 at the Onaga Community Hospital oin Onaga. He had been in poor health since March 1998.
Joe was born on October 8, 1919 in Baileyville, the son of Frank J. and Mary A. Osterhaus Deters. He attended Baileyville schools and helped on the family farm.
On November 3, 1942 he was inducted into the U.S. Army where he served during World War II as an engineer for 32 months in Normandy and Germany. He was discharged on November 30, 1945 and returned home to farm west of Centralia.
Joe married his sweetheart Florence M. Ronnebaum on February 14, 1953 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. She survives of the home. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary last year.
Besides farming and raising livestock, Joe and Florence also operated a dairy. They continued to live on their family farm after retirement in 1980, where they enjoyed gardening and raising chickens.
Joe was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca and the Saint Joseph Society at the church. He was a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville.
Survivors include his wife Florence of the home; a son Gerald "Jerry" Deters, of Princeton, Kansas; four daughters, Mary Ann (Glenn) Deck of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jolene (Larry Fairchild) of Overbrook, Kansas, Cindy (Tom) Schreiner of Centralia, and Connie Deters-Jackson of Topeka; two brothers, Aloyisus and Francis Deters of Centralia; three sisters, Marie H. Stallbaumer of Seneca, Clara Krogman of Baileyville, and Emma Holthaus of Horton; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
Rosaries were prayed Tuesday afternoon and evening at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, February 13, by Fr. Roderick Giller OSB at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Lector was Leander Engelken. Gift bearers were Gloria Heiman, Keith Schreiner, Derek Deck and Sarah Jackson. Servers were grandchildren Danny and Jennifer Jackson. Music was provided by the church choir.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Roger Deters, Danny Kramer, Merlin Flentie, Lon Jay McClary, Elmer Deters, and Mike Flentie. Active pallbearers were nephews Jim Deters, David Deters, Elmer Ronnebaum, Jim Holthaus, Mike Holthaus, and Bernie Ronnebaum.
Memorial contributions may be given for Sts. Peter & Paul Church or the American Cancer Society, and sent in care of the family.

Lisa Ann Deters

Lisa Ann Deters, 40, Oneida, KS, died Sunday, September 11, 2005, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca. She became suddenly ill with pneumonia.
She was born May 30, 1965, at the Seneca Hospital, the daughter of Urban and Charlotte Sperfslage Deters. As a pre-schooler, Lisa attended the Nemaha County Day Care in Seneca. When she became school age, Lisa took special education classes at Hiawatha until she was eighteen years old. She made her home with her parents. She enjoyed being with her family and having family and friends come to see her.
She was a member of St. Augustine’s Church at Fidelity.
Survivors are her father, Urban, Oneida; a sister, Rose Mueting, Seneca; eight brothers, Richard and Jean, of Sabetha, Leon, James, and Rene, of the home, Nick of Baileyville, Kevin of Seneca, and Ervin of Fairview; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte Elizabeth Deters on March 3, 1998.
Mass of Christian burial will be 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, at St. Augustine’s Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 7 P.M. Monday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca where she will lie in state after 8:30 A.M. on Monday.
Memorials may be given for the church or for the church cemetery, and sent in care of the family.

Lucy M. Deters

Lucy M. Deters, 97, of Seneca, Kansas, died Friday, November 15, 2002, at a Seneca care home.
She was born July 24, 1905, on a farm northwest of Centralia, Kansas, the daughter of William and Mary Holan Koch. She grew up on the family farm and attended a rural school near her home.
On August 19, 1925, she married Bernard C. "Ben" Deters at Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville, Kansas. They farmed west of Seneca until 1944 when they moved to a farm southwest of Seneca. In 1965 they retired and moved into Seneca. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1975. Her husband, "Ben, " preceded her in death on March 26, 1980. She was also preceded in death by a son, Fr. Henry Deters, O.S.B. on January 3, 1996, a granddaughter Elizabeth Ronnebaum on April 11, 1997 and a great-grandson Andrew Haug on July 9, 1994.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and St. Ann's Altar Society at the church in Seneca.
Survivors are six sons, Dorus Deters of Overland Park, KS, Gregory Deters of Weatherby, MO, Marvin Deters and Francis Deters both of Seneca, Bernard Deters Jr. of Independence, MO, and Joseph Deters of Napa. CA; five daughters, Mildred Haug of Baileyville, Bernice Wessel, Audrey Deters, and Mary Peterson all of Topeka, KS, and Shirley Deters of Centralia; 30 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and son, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Wancel, William Jr., Andrew, Louis, Ralph, and Lawrence Koch, and three sisters, Lena Barber, Florence Feldkamp, and Gertrude Droge.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Monday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 2 P.M. and a vigil prayer service will be conducted at 7 P.M. Sunday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for Sts. Peter & Paul School in Seneca or for the Benedictine Abbey at Atchison and sent in care of the family.
