Raymond "Ray" Kramer

Raymond C. “Ray” Kramer, 84, of Seneca, died early morning April 18, 2007 at Life Care Center in Seneca.
He was born on September 18, 1922 on a farm east of Seneca, the son of Joseph B. and Frances Holthaus Kramer. He attended Sts. Peter & Paul School, graduating from high school in 1940. On November 13, 1942, he was inducted into the Army Air Corp and served until December 1, 1945. After his discharge, Ray enrolled at Kansas State University and graduated with a BS in Agriculture.
On June 14, 1952, he married Rita Kunzman in Kansas City, MO. The couple lived in Seneca. He worked as an independent fertilizer application contractor for area farmers and was also an agriculture instructor for a government extension agency until 1954, when he started the Farm Service and Supply Store with Clyde Jones. He sold his half of the business to Clyde in 1972. For a short time, he worked for Winterscheidt Milling, until he decided to go into business for himself again. In 1972, he opened R & R Clothing on Main Street in Seneca and ran the business for 15 years, before retiring in 1987.
Ray was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, the St. Joseph Society, the Knights of Columbus #1769, and the Earle W. Taylor Post #21 of the American Legion, all in Seneca. He enjoyed playing cards and working with horses.
Survivors are his wife, Rita, of the home; two sons, Larry of Shawnee, KS and Charlie of Sabetha; two brothers, Wilbur of Lawrence, and James of Lincoln, NE; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Mary on May 21, 1955; three sisters, Mary Ann Kramer, Mercedes Waller and Mildred McCaffrey; and two brothers, Victor B. and Arthur J.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM Friday April 20, 2007 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 and 7 PM on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorial contributions may be given for the Sts. Peter and Paul School Building Fund, and sent in care of the family.

Alma Kreutzman

Alma Kreutzman, 87, of Seneca, Kansas, formerly of Baileyville, Kansas, died Monday, November 18, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca. She had fractured her hip earlier and had a heart attack.
She was born March 28, 1915, on a farm north of Baileyville, Kansas, the daughter of Bernard and Fredericka Knipper Kreutzman. She attended Sacred Heart School at Baileyville. She lived at home, helped her parents on the farm, and continued to live on the farm with her brother. After her brother, Albert died, she entered Country View Estates Care Home in Seneca on September 26, 1991.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville.
Survivors are a brother, John Kreutzman of Marysville, Kansas; and two sisters, Cecilia Holle of Marysville and Margaret Haverkamp of Seneca, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Albert, and Joe and two sisters Sr. Mary Verona and Agnes Kopp.
The mass of Christian burial will be 11 AM Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Tuesday at 7 P.M.
Memorials may be given for Sacred HeartCemeteryor Nemaha Valley Community Hospital and sent in care of the family.

Charles T. Krogman

Charles T. "Charles" Krogman, 81, of Seneca, died late Saturday evening, January 27, 2007, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. He was transferred there after suffering an apparent heart attack.
He was born on a farm southwest of Seneca on July 8, 1925, the son of Joseph and Margaret Ellen McNally Krogman. He attended school at St. Bridget, went to high school and graduated from Sts. Peter & Paul in 1943. After graduation, he entered military service. During WW II he served in the Coast Guard from 1944 to 1945. After the war he joined the Merchant Marines in 1946, and later enlisted with the Navy, serving on the USS Fechteler. His rank was Boatswain’s Mate Second Class. His military awards include a Korean Service Medal (Bronze Star), a Navy Occupation Medal, a China Service Medal, and a United Nations Service Medal.
On November 29, 1952, he married Verla L. Seematter at Frankfort. They lived on a farm north of St. Bridget, where they farmed until 1974. In 1974, they purchased the Cedar’s 36 Motel in Seneca, which they operated until 1983. Charlie also worked for the Nemaha County COOP from 1975 until 1990. After retiring from the COOP, he was self-employed under the name Krogman Trucking with his son Tim.
In May 1999, his wife preceded him in death.
Charlie was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, the St. Joseph Society, the Knights of Columbus #1769 for 62 years, the Seneca Memorial Post #7458 of the V.F.W., the Earle W. Taylor post #21 of the American Legion, and the Seneca Lions Club for over 30 years, all in Seneca.
He volunteered at the for NVCH Guild many years, as well as at the Sts. Peter & Paul Mission Center. He enjoyed going to the coffee shop, playing cards, and gardening, and loved to share his fresh garden tomatoes with friends and family. He also enjoyed speculating in the market for manure spreaders and Ford tractors.
Survivors are his special friend Millie Oenbring; two sons, Tim of Pawnee City, NE and Randy of Seneca; two daughters, Marilee Weber of Lincoln NE and Lori Burdiek of Seneca; two sisters, Marilyn Berberick of Topeka and Margaret Overmyer of Kansas City; a brother-in-law Harold Michaelis of Topeka; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Besides his wife, Verla, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Francis; and sisters, Kathryn Cortright and Gertrude Michaelis.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10 AM Wednesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed Tuesday at 2 PM at Lauer Funeral Home and 7 PM at Sts. Peter & Paul Church. He will lie in state after 8 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given for the Seneca EMTs or for Sts. Peter & Paul School, and sent in care of the family.

Eva I. Krotzinger

Eva I. Krotzinger, 84, of Seneca, Kansas, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
She was born on April 9, 1928 in Seneca, the daughter of John Frederick and Ruby E. Sypherd Luginbill. She graduated from Seneca Public High School in 1946. As a young girl she worked for a family for 5 cents a day plus half a gallon of skim milk. After high school graduation she went to work for Judge Slocum.
On June 8, 1947 Eva married Jacob C. Krotzinger, whom she met when both were attending the wedding of a friend. The couple started the first garbage collection route in Seneca. In 1970, when Eva’s children were grown, she started a thriving business out of her home, selling wedding invitations, supplies and gifts, and continued to do so until 1995.
Eva was a generous and caring individual who enjoyed meeting and helping people. She and her husband delivered cookie and candy plates to home-bound people during the holidays, amounting to more than 300 plates in their final year of this community service.
Eva was a member of the United Church of Christ, VFW Auxiliary, Legion Auxiliary and the Eastern Star, all in Seneca. She loved to play cards and to bake for her family. She enjoyed fishing, and giving to her community whenever she had a chance. Family was very important to Eva and she relished time spent with family.
She is survived by her son James and his wife Cindy of Seneca; three daughters, Marcia Krotzinger of Seneca, Carol Niehues of Sabetha, and Diane and her husband Max Hermesch of Sabetha; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Eva considered her longtime neighbors her extended family, especially Don and Mary Doris Strathman and their children.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jacob on April 17, 1994; her sons, Lyle on August 31, 1962 and Charles R. "Charlie" on August 18, 2008; her son-in-law Mike Niehues on July 9, 2007; brothers, William, Harold, Fritz, George, Allen and Lyle Luginbill; and sisters, Lily Claas and Rose Zella Boeding.
Funeral service will be held at 10 AM Monday, July 23, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, with a visitation from 6 to 7 PM on Sunday, July 22, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Seneca City Cemetery.
A memorial beneficiary will be designated later.

James E. Krotzinger

James E. “Jimmy” Krotzinger, 58, Seneca, died Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca, after a valiant battle against cancer.
Jimmy was born on July 9, 1956 in Seneca, the son of Jacob C. and Eva Luginbill Krotzinger.
He graduated from Nemaha Valley High School in 1974. After high school he moved to Stillwater, MN and worked for Stillwater Bakery with his brother Charlie. He returned to Seneca in 1978 where he began his employment with Big-B Grocery. His favorite part of his job was conversing with customers and making new friends.
He married Cindy Lohmann on July 20, 1990. The couple celebrated 24 years of marriage.
Jimmy loved nature. He loved to feed the birds and brag about the number and types he attracted. He enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He participated in Kansas Walleye Fishing Competitions with his partner Dennis Murphy, taking great pride in finishing first in the 2003 standings.
He loved sports and enjoyed reminiscing about his days playing Legion baseball, town team hardball, and Raider football. Jimmy spent many hours volunteering with the Legion Baseball Association and many American Legion fundraisers
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the Kansas Walleye Association, and was a charter member of the Sons of the Earle W. Taylor Post #21 American Legion Post in Seneca, serving many years as Commander.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, Jacob on April 17, 1994; his mother, Eva on July 18, 2012; his brothers, Lyle on August 31, 1962 and Charles on August 18, 2008; and his brother-in-law, Mike Niehues on July 9, 2007.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Cindy of Seneca; two daughters, Casse (Cliff) Withrow of Edgerton, Kansas and Megan (Keith) Jensen of Hiawatha; three sisters, Marcia Krotzinger of Seneca, Carol Niehues of Sabetha, and Diane (Max) Hermesch of Sabetha; three grandchildren, Kennedy Krotzinger, Michael Jensen and Payton Jensen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be prayed at 2 and 7 P.M. on Sunday, November 16th at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday at 11 A.M. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be left in Jimmy’s memory to C.O.I.N.S. for Cause and Hope Lodge.
One final thought that Jimmy wanted to leave us all with: “Laughter goes a long way – always remember to laugh”

Leonard Krogman

Leonard Krogman of Baileyville, Kansas, died May 1, 2014 at Life Care Center of Seneca, surrounded by family. He would have been 96 on Sunday, May 4, 2014.
He was born the youngest of four children, to John and Mary (Olberding) Krogman. His mother died when he was six weeks old. He and his siblings were then raised by their grandparents, Frank and Agnes Olberding. Leonard attended Cottonwood School and St. Mary’s School in St. Benedict, through the eighth grade. During his youth, he helped on the family farm.
As a young man, Leonard ventured to Los Angeles, California, and lived with his aunt and uncle, Al and Rose (Olberding) Lackey. While there, he was employed at the Coca Cola Company for three years. In 1942, during World War II, he entered the U.S. Army. He was deployed from Fort MacArthur, California and was stationed overseas in Australia and the Philippines for three and a half years. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater in Australia and the Philippines with the 799th Military Police Battalion until his discharge December 30, 1945. Leonard was proud of his military service.
After the war, he returned to Kansas to farm the family homestead, west of St. Benedict. On May 4, 1949, he married Clara Deters at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. Of this union, three children were born: Jimmy, Janice and Bill. Leonard loved the farm and they continued to reside there after retiring. They celebrated their 50th, 60th and would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 4, 2014.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict, where he served on the church council. He was a lifetime member of the Seneca Memorial Post #7458 of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars where he served as Adjutant for 13 years and a life time member of the Earl W. Taylor Post #21 of the American Legion, both of Seneca, Kansas. Leonard enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, hunting and fishing. His favorite sport was baseball. He coached youth baseball several years at St. Benedict and played on a city baseball team while in Alhambra, California. Leonard was always willing to help others and was known for his sense of humor.
Leonard entered Life Care Center on April 5, 2010, and his wife, Clara joined him there on February 19, 2013.
Survivors are his wife, Clara; a daughter, Janice (Carl) Koch of Axtell; three grandsons Jason, Kevin and Kyle Koch all of the Kansas City area; and one granddaughter, Brie Krogman of Seneca.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy at the age 3 and a son, Bill, at the age 43; a sister, Agnes Williamson; and two brothers, Louis Krogman and Lawrence Krogman.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. on Monday, May 5, 2014 at St. Mary’s Church in St. Benedict. The burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 and 7 P.M. on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for Nemaha County Agency on Aging, and sent in care of the family.
