Frank J. Reinecke

Frank J. Reinecke, 81, of Baileyville, Kansas, died Sunday, December 15, 2002, at his home. He was recently diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer.
He was born February 9, 1921, the son of John J. and Rose Hohe Reinecke, on the Reinecke homestead east of Baileyville. He grew up there, attended Sacred Heart School at Baileyville, helped on the family farm, and later worked on a farm near Axtell, Kansas.
On April 15, 1942, he married Mary Schmitz at St. Mary's Church, St. Benedict. They lived on a farm east of Axtell until he was drafted into the military during World War II. He served in the Army Air Force in China, Burma, and India. He was a flight engineer on C-46 cargo planes delivering supplies over the Himalayan Mountains. After he returned from the service on December 8, 1945, they moved to a farm southeast of Baileyville in January of 1946, which is their present home. Frank was a farmer and a stockman when he retired from farming in 1994; he kept active with gardening and flowers.
His memberships include Sacred Heart Church where he was a lay minister, served on the Parrish council, and sang in the church choir. Frank served on the District #451 School Board at Baileyville. He was also member of the Knights of Columbus #1769 and the Earle W. Taylor Post #21 of the American Legion both at Seneca.
Survivors besides his wife, Mary are three sons, Elwin Reinecke of Berryton, KS, Jim Reinecke of Seneca, Kansas, John Reinecke of Charlotte, North Carolina; three daughters, Linda Walrod of Weatherby Lake, Missouri, Carol Caffrey of Lillis, Kansas, Julie Strathman of Bern, Kansas; a brother, Clarence "Mike" Reinecke of Seneca; four sisters, Sr. Theophane Reinecke, O.S.B. of Atchison, Kansas, Helen Stallbaumer, Rita Holthaus, and Rose Ann Nordhus all of Seneca; 20 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister Clara Sextro on July 5, 2000.
The mass of Christian burial will be 11 A.M. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. The burial will be with full military honors provided by the American Legion in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 2 and 7 P.M. Tuesday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for Sacred Heart Church or for the Northeast Kansas Hospice of Hiawatha and sent in care of the family.

Hilda M. Reinecke

Hilda M. Reinecke, 86, of Seneca, KS, died Friday morning, July 18, 2003, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca. She was transferred there from Country View Estates, where she had been a resident since August 15, 2001.
She was born April 15, 1917, on a farm south of Baileyville, KS, the daughter of Aloys and Anna Krogman Reinecke. She grew up on the family farm, graduated from Sacred Heart School at Baileyville, and later earned a G.E.D. She lived in Kansas City and did domestic work for several families. Later she lived in California for three years and kept house for her two brothers. After her father died, she and her mother moved to Seneca. When her sister, Rose, became disabled because of a brain tumor, she took care of her for several years until nursing home care became necessary.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, and the Prayer Group, all at the church at Seneca. She was also a member and held offices in the Seneca Garden Club.
Survivors are three brothers, Fred Reinecke, Centralia, KS, Louis Reinecke, Seneca, and Tony Reinecke, Garden Grove, CA; and three sisters, Josephine Altenhofen, Gardner, KS, Irene Haverkamp, Seneca, and Angela Tangeman, Centralia.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Eugene, and three sisters, Mary Ann Reinecke, Rose Reinecke and Martha Stallbaumer.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Monday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in Sacred HeartCemeteryat Baileyville. The rosary will be prayed at 2 P.M., with a vigil prayer service at 7 P.M., on Sunday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorial contributions may be given for Sts. Peter & Paul School or for Sacred HeartCemeteryand sent in care of the family.

Mary C. Reinecke

Mary Catherine Reinecke, 85, of Seneca, KS, died early Monday morning, June 16, 2008 at Life Care Center in Seneca.
Mary was born on July 8, 1922 to John and Mary Oenbring Schmitz at the family farm northwest of St. Benedict. She attended St. Mary’s School in St. Benedict and helped on the family farm.
She married Frank J. Reinecke on April 15, 1942 in at St. Mary's Church in St. Benedict. Their first home was a farm near Axtell. Mary traveled with Frank to his Air Force assignments in Albuquerque, Amarillo, and Fort Worth, working different jobs of her own at each stop.
When Frank was assigned to overseas duty, Mary returned to the farm near St. Benedict. She was part of the devout group of parishioners from St. Mary’s Church who regularly prayed the rosary at the grotto in St. Benedict for the safe return of those serving in WW II. Frank returned safely on December 8, 1945 and the following January they moved to a farm southeast of Baileyville.
Mary was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville and the Altar Society in which she had served as an officer. Mary loved being a homemaker. She was an excellent cook and seamstress, a good friend, and a loving wife and mother. She was also a skilled card player. Mary enjoyed the many card games with friends as a member of the Happy Hours Club, but her competitive side really showed when playing SkipBo and Uno with the grandchildren. In her later years, Mary enjoyed writing letters to her family and friends.
Mary and Frank celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in April of 2002. In December of that same year, Frank passed away and Mary moved from the family farm to Seneca.
Mary will be missed by her six children, Linda Walrod of Overland Park, Elwin Reinecke of Berryton, Jim Reinecke of Seneca, Carol Caffrey of Lillis, Julie Strathman of Bern, John Reinecke of Charlotte, NC, 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a sister, Rosella Bergman of Seneca and a brother Ambrose Schmitz of Baileyville.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, and seven brothers, Vince, Paul, Sylverius, Ed, Virgil, Francis and John Schmitz.
Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Tuesday, June 17, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Wednesday, June 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given for Sacred HeartCemeteryor Life Care Center of Seneca, and sent in care of the family.

Connie J. Remby

Connie J. Remby, 47, of Raytown, MO, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Country View Estates Care Home in Seneca, Kansas. She was admitted to the care home on March 7, 2003. In 1993 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and in November 2000 with a brain tumor.
She was born March 16, 1956, at Axtell, Kansas, the daughter of Leonard and Ruth Barnes Tanking. Connie grew up on a farm south of Baileyville and graduated from B & B High School in 1974. During high school, she was a candy striper at the Axtell Hospital. Following high school, she studied nursing at the Vo-Tec at Emporia. She qualified as a Licensed Practical Nurse after taking the board tests. She worked at the Sabetha Hospital for a year, Kansas Neurological Institute in Topeka, and at the KU Medical Center in the Psychiatric and Burn Units. Her last employer was Dr. John Moore MD at Research Hospital in Kansas City where she worked since 1994. Her health made it necessary for her to retire in November of 2000.
She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Raytown.
Survivors are two sons, Ryan Essman of Grantville, KS, and Lucas Remby of Lawrence; a daughter, Camille Remby of Raytown; her parents, Leonard and Ruth Tanking of Vermillion, KS; two sisters, Terry Plumberg of Seneca and Jackie Berkley of Vermillion; her grandmother, Millie Tanking of Seneca.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10 A.M. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville, Kansas. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Friday at 7 P.M. She will lie in state at the funeral home after 3 P.M. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given for the Connie Remby Fund and sent in care of the Vermillion State Bank, Vermillion, KS 66544.

Agnes M. Rempe

Agnes M. Rempe, 90, of Centralia, Kansas, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Eastridge Care Home in Centralia. She had been a resident there since August 1998.
She was born February 25, 1911, on a farm east of Kelly, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Mary Wessel Hermesch. She grew up there, attended St. Bede's School at Kelly, and helped on the family farm. She did domestic work for local families before her marriage.
On February 11, 1931, she married William E. Rempe at St. Bede's Church at Kelly. They farmed southeast of Corning, Kansas, for nine years and then moved to a farm north of Corning. In November of 1982 they retired and moved into Centralia. Her husband, William died July 9, 1995. They celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries and had been married 64 years at the time of his death.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Church at Corning, the Altar Society at the church where she served as president in 1940 and in 1952, and the quilting group the church. She was also a member of the Groundhog Quilting Club, the Corning Extension Unit, and a card club in Corning.
Survivors are three sons, Leonard F. Rempe of Hutchinson, Kansas, John J. Rempe of Corning, Frank W. Rempe of Omaha, Nebraska; four daughters, Melita Rempe of Seneca, Kansas, Edith Deters, Dorothy White, and Mary Jane Engelken, all of Centralia; six brothers, Ben Hermesch, and Fred Hermesch, both of Seneca, Ed Hermesch of Centralia, Raymond Hermesch of Goff, Kansas, Lambert Hermesch of Meriden, Kansas, and Lawrence Hermesch of Anamosa, Iowa; three sisters, Sr. M. Amanda Hermesch, O.S.B. of Colorado Springs, Mary Brucken of Holton, Kansas, Theresa Winkler of Corning; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Albert, and Frank; three sisters, Lucy Hermesch, Anna Brokamp, and Rita Buser Perdue.
The mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 20, at St. Patrick's Church in Corning. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Monday at 7 P.M. and on Tuesday at 8 P.M. She will lie in state at the funeral home after 4 P.M. Monday
Memorials may be given for St. Patrick'sCemeteryor for Eastridge Care Home and sent in care of the family.

Melita C. Rempe

Melita C. Rempe, 79, of Seneca, formerly of Corning, died on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Life Care Center in Seneca.
Melita was born August 26, 1935, at the Sabetha Hospital to William E. and Agnes M Hermesch Rempe. She attended St. Patrick’s Grade School and Corning High School. After she graduated she helped her parents on the farm before moving to Topeka for 35 years. She retired in 1989; she worked at various restaurants as kitchen help. She returned to Nemaha County and moved to Terrace Heights in Seneca and in 2009 she moved to Life Care Center in Seneca.
She was an avid reader and loved to embroidery, especially tea towels and blocks for quilts.
She is survived by her siblings, Leonard (Norita) Rempe of Hutchison, John (Gladys) Rempe of Corning, Frank (Jean) Rempe of Omaha, Edith (Bernie) Deters of Baileyville, Dorothy (Leon) White and Mary Jane (John) Engelken both of Centralia.
A rosary will be prayed on Sunday, September 28th at 2PM at Lauer Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Corning at 10:30 AM Monday, September 29, 2014. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials are to be designated later.

Emma M. Rethman

Emma M. Rethman, 94, of Seneca, Kansas, died Wednesday, November 7, 2001, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca. She was transferred there from Crestview Manor in Seneca where she had been a resident since May of this year.
She was born January 8, 1907, on a farm north of St. Benedict, Kansas, the daughter of Bernard and Bernadine Wahrenfeld Enneking. She grew up there and attended a rural school.
On October 2, 1929, she married A.J. "Tony" Rethman at St. Mary's Church, St. Benedict, Kansas. She was a homemaker. They farmed in the Baileyville area until 1957, moved to Topeka in 1958, and returned to Seneca in 1966. Her husband, A.J. "Tony" Rethman, died May 8, 1972. Emma moved back to Topeka in 1984, and had returned to Seneca this May.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Norman Rethman on April 29, 1982; a daughter, Karylee Schiffelbein on September 18, 1999; a granddaughter, Lori Rethman on March 17, 1976; three brothers, Henry, Frank, and Louis Enneking; and four sisters, Bertha Droge, Mary Blocker, Katie Macke, and Rose Luckeroth.
Emma was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and St. Ann's Altar Society at the church in Seneca. She was a former member of Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville, where she had served as president of the Altar Society, and a former member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Church in Topeka.
Survivors are three sons, Ken Rethman of Seneca, Jerry Rethman and Jim Rethman both of Topeka, Kansas; two daughters, Patricia Buser and Betty Blankenship-Smarker both of Topeka; 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and two-step great-grandchildren.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 9, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in Sacred HeartCemeteryin Baileyville. A prayer service will be conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday and the rosary will be prayed at 7 P.M. Thursday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital or Sacred HeartCemeteryand sent in care of the family.
