William A. Linsner, Jr.

HOISINGTON - William A. Linsner, Jr., 73, died May 28 at his home in Hoisington. He was born Oct. 29, 1932, at Redwing, the son of William H. and Eleanor Hickel Linsner. He was a lifetime resident of rural Hoisington and a retired farmer and operated the Cheyenne Township grader for many years. Linsner was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #2630, both of Odin; and of American Legion Post #286, and VFW Post #7428, both of Hoisington. Survivors include his mother, Eleanor Linsner, of Hoisington; three sisters, Marilou Axman, of Hoisington; Eleanor Witchey, of St. John, and Gerri West, of Larned; and two nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his father, William H. Linsner. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Rosary will be at 7 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Burial will be at Holy Family cemetery in Odin with military graveside rites by VFW Post #7428 and American Legion Post #286. C. Linzie Williams
1925 - 2006
LARNED - C. Linzie Williams, 80, died May 28, at Larned Health Care Center. He was born Oct. 20, 1925, at Larned, the son of John Norman and Lora V. Roberts Williams. A longtime Larned resident, he was a power plant manager for the city of Larned. He graduated from Larned High School and spent three years in the Navy during WW II. In 1946 he returned to Larned and went to work in the Larned Power Plant. In 1952 he became the superintendent of all the city utilities. From 1960 to 1966 he was the manager of the Pratt Power Plant and from 1966 until 1987 he was manager of power production for Muscatine, Iowa. He was member of the First Christian Church, Larned, where he served as moderator of the board, deacon, and elder. He was a Boy Scout leader of Troop #423 from 1952 to 1960. In 1959 and 1961 he served as president of the Kansas Association of Municipal Utilities. From 1980 until 1984 he sat on the board of directors of American Public Power. He served six years as a city councilman, was on the Larned cemetery Board, Larned Power Plant Board, he drove and was past president for the Friendship Meals on Wheels, Larned, an engineer of the Schnack Express miniature railroad, and was a caretaker for the Schnack Memorial Rose Garden. On April 9, 1944, he married Betty Nan Hall at Larned. She survives. Other survivors include, three sons, Charles Michael Williams, of Westminister, Colo., Richard Norman Williams, of Omaha, Neb., and Warner Kent Williams, of El Dorado; one daughter, Laurie Kristine Williams, of Lakewood, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Marsha Carabetta, Mandy Anderson, Steven Williams, Becky Williams, Jennifer Tellinghuisen, Daniel Williams, Travis Johnson, Jeffrey Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Cody Williams. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, in Larned with Rev. Dan Lundgren and Rev. Johnny Augmon, officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. LYONS '“ Joey Lee Melton, stillborn baby, died May 29 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. Survivors include: Parents Agnes K. Smith and Stephen P. Melton; grandparents Genna M. and Lance R. Smith, of Lyons, and Daniel S. and Dianne E. Melton, of Nickerson; great-grandparents Ray Smith, of Chase, Dale and Patricia Robey, of Conroe, Texas, and Don and Helen Melton, of Kingman; and numerous aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by great-grandparents Margaret Smith, of Chase, Michael and Sharon Alexandra, of Amorita, Okla., and Margaret Melton, of Kingman. Carol J. Sehl
1918 - 2006
HUGOTON - Carol J. Sehl, 87, died May 26 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton. She was born Dec. 21, 1918, in Hesston, the daughter of Luther E. Zimmerman and Julaetta Huffman. She married Edward G. Sehl on Sept. 12, 1937, in Bazine. He died in 1969. She was a school bus driver, and worked at Central Kansas Medical Center for eight years as a Registered Nurse until she retired in 1986. She had been a resident of Hugoton since 2000. Mrs. Sehl was member of the United Methodist Church of Alexander, a 4-H leader and a volunteer at the Barton County Museum. Survivors include two sons, Jerry Sehl of Clifton, Colo., and Thomas E. Sehl of Ness City; two daughters, Edwina Daharsh of Hugoton, and Nadine McGrady of Morganton, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers; three sisters; one grandson; and one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Deb Harvey and Floyd Daharsh officiating. Burial will follow at the Alexander cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, all at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton. Chet Erin Gisick

Chet Erin Gisick, 29, of Great Bend, died May 27 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Larned, as the result of a truck accident. He was born Nov. 27, 1976, the son of Roger and Coletta (Kaiser) Gisick Debes. He was a 1995 graduate of Claflin High School. He married Elizabeth Behnke of Great Bend. He was a truck driver for MAB of Garden City, and a longtime resident of Claflin before moving to Great Bend. Gisick was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Odin. Survivors include his wife of the home; son Gavin Gisick, Great Bend; daughter Erika Gisick, Claflin; his parents, and stepfather Robert 'Bob' Debes of Claflin; two brothers, Chad Gisick and Josh Gisick, both of Odin; sister Joy Gisick of Salina; grandmother Pauline Kaiser of Claflin; and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Gisick. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church in Odin with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Benjamin 'Ben' Dumler

HOISINGTON - Benjamin 'Ben' Dumler, 93, died May 26 at the Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born April 5, 1913, in Russell County, the son of John George Dumler and Emma (Wegele) Dumler. He married Rosa A. Niedens on Sept. 6, 1936, in Russell County. She preceded him in death on June 14, 1981. He later married Isabelle Karst Deutsch on Nov. 24, 1984, in Hoisington. He was a retired farmer and longtime resident of Russell County, moving to Hoisington in 1997 after his retirement. Dumler was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church, Hoisington, and a former member of the United Emmanual Lutheran Church, Milberger. Survivors include his wife of the home; son Larry D. and wife Judy Dumler of Dodge City; daughter Verna and husband Al Maier of Great Bend; step-son Melvin and wife Dianna Deutsch of Lawrence; two step-daughters, Barb and husband Roy Nolte of Hoisington, and Jolene and husband Paul Hindman of Claflin; two brothers Alvin Dumler of Milberger and Victor L. Dumler of rural Russell; five grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and 14 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Dumler and Solomon Dumler, and two sisters, Agnes Radke and Bertha Krug. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Concordia Lutheran Church with Deacon Luke Brown presiding. Burial will be at the Hoisington cemetery. ROYSE CITY, Texas - Marilyn White passed away peacefully at her home in Royse City, Texas, on May 26, 2006, at the age of 73. She was born Oct. 26, 1932, on a rural homestead in Otis, Kan., to Dan and Lydia (Muth) Brack. Mrs. White is survived by her husband, Robert White; son J.D. White and wife Rhonda; two daughters, Roberta Norton and husband Steve of Luther Okla., and Cheryl McFarland of Enid Okla.; grandson Michael Norris of Royse City; three brothers, Wilber Brack and wife Dianne, and Dan E. Brack Jr. and wife Dixie, all of Farmington N.M., and Tom Brack and wife Sharon of Great Bend, Kan.; two sisters, Wilma Cody and husband Bill of Welaka, Fla., and Deanna Robinson and husband Tom of Broken Arrow, Okla.; four grandchildren, Billy McFarland, Lydia Weiher, Jodi Norton and Daniel Dean; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter Rhonda Dean, brother Orville Brack, and sisters Bonnie Flowers, Delores Fricks and Evelyn Deines. DURHAM - Orville W. Richert, 78, died May 25 at Salina. He was born Feb. 23, 1928, in rural Durham, the son of Peter and Linda Jantz Richert. He married Delores Jantz on June 10, 1949, in rural Tampa. He was a farmer. Richert was a member of Central Heights Mennonite Church. Survivors include his wife, Delores Jantz Richert; two sons, Verlin Richert of Assaria, and Bentley Richert of Abbyville; two daughters, Krystal Jensen of Roxbury, and Annette Goering of Great Bend; one sister, Lillian Peters of North Newtown; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro. Burial will be at the Peace Valley cemetery in rural Durham. Connie Ann Kennedy, 71, of Great Bend died May 24, at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born May 9, 1935, in Great Bend, the daughter of Frederick and Pauline Kimpler Berscheidt She married Kale A. Kennedy on Oct. 30, 1957, in Great Bend. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1982. She was a homemaker and resident of Great Bend most of her life. Mrs. Kennedy was member of the Catholic Community of Great Bend at St. Patrick and Altar Society. Survivors include one son Kurt and wife Joni Kennedy of Great Bend; Mother Pauline Berscheidt of Great Bend; two brothers Gordon Berscheidt of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Paul Berscheidt of Great Bend; two grandsons Ryan Kennedy, and Brett Kennedy Altar Society Rosary will be at 4 p.m. today with vigil service at 7 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Ted Stoecklein presiding. Burial will follow at the Great Bend cemetery. Richard M. Elliott
1955 - 2006
HUTCHINSON - Richard M. Elliott, 50, of Hutchinson died May 24 in his home. He was born Oct. 10, 1955, in Marlon, Texas. He was be beloved son of Felton and Mildred Elliott, both who survive him. He was the head K-9 handler for the Hutchinson Correctional Facility, Judge for the Kansas Police Dog Association, and held and hosted several dog seminars for them. For years he was the head dog trainer for the Southern Police Dog Association. He was also the owner of Elliott's Police K-9 and his certificates include patrol, narcotics, tracking and explosives. Rick was the greatest man many of us have ever known. He was loved and respected by everyone who ever met him. He was also one of those people who had the distinct ability to stand strong yet still show compassion in his eyes. Everywhere that he went, he tended to draw everyone around him closer as they were absorbed by his jokes and various stories. He is survived by his sister Janice; brother Phillip; loving wife Cammie, and his two sons Dustin and Landon. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Hutchinson High School Salt Hawk Activity Center. Burial will be at the Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Visitation will from 2 to 8 p.m. today with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Heritage Funeral Home. The Kansas Police Dog Association has set up a fund for his memorials at the Hutchinson Government Employee Credit Union. Scott S. Thompson

LYONS - Scott Steven Thompson, 31, died May 21 at Via Christi Medical Center in Wichita. He was born Oct. 2, 1974, in Norton, the son of Kenneth Steven and Esther (Langer) Thompson. He was a graduate of Norton Community High School and attended the Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland. He married Kristy Tharp on Jan. 25, 1997, in Lyons. A resident of Lyons, he was a diesel mechanic. Thompson was a member of the Catholic Church in Lyons, and National Guard Pellet Rifle Team. Survivors include his wife of home; two daughters, Katelyn and Patricia Thompson, both of Lyons; his parents; one brother, Eric Thompson of Norton; and three sisters, Monica Bach of Woodruff, Natalie Wallace of Garden City, and Paula McKenna of Selden. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton with the Rev. Vincent Thu Laing officiating. Burial will be at the Norton cemetery. Vera Spangler Calloway
1914 - 2006
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Vera Spangler Calloway, 91, formerly of Nevada, Mo., died May 10 at Truman Care Center Lakewood in Kansas City, Mo. She was born Dec. 21, 1914, near Belpre, the daughter of Orville Dewey and Emma Bridges Clark. She married Joe Curtis Spangler in 1934 in Belpre. He died March 16, 1963. She married Woodrow Colloway in 1971 in Sugar Creek, Mo. He died in 1987. She was a psychiatric aide at the Nevada State Hospital for many years. She had been a resident of the Kansas City, Mo. area for the last 20 years. Mrs. Calloway was a member of the Christian Church. Survivors include one son, Roy Spangler of Kingsville, Mo.; three step-children, Mildred Coleman and Madalin Marshall, both of El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Laura Wyatt of St. John; one brother, Walter Clark of Herrington; one sister, Lois Gilmore of Manhattan; and numerous grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Louis Spangler; and one daughter, Lois Shepard. Graveside services were held on May 15 at the Moore cemetery in Nevada, Mo., with Walter Clark officiating. Ferry Funeral Home of Nevada, was in charge of arrangements.

Lois Ann Jerke
1947 - 2006
Lois Ann Jerke, 58, of Great Bend, died May 23 at the Hutchinson Hospital. She was born Sept. 4, 1947 in Yankton S.D. the daughter of Elmer and Ethel Muhmel Magstadt. She married Harlen H. Jerke on June 16, 1968 at Scotland S.D. He survives. She was a devoted and nurturing wife, mom, grandma, and daughter. She had been a vocal music instructor before being a secretary for Harlen's Thrivent Insurance office for 31 years. She was also the co-owner of Quality Music Center. She was a resident of Great Bend since May of 1973 coming from Fort Riley, Dunlap Iowa, and Scotland S.D. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was Choir Director and musician, former children's music leader and Stephen's minister, including making shut in communion calls. She also served on various other church and community committees. Survivors include her husband, Harlen Jerke of the home, father Elmer Magstadt, of Scotland S.D.; three sons Travis and wife Kathy Jerke of Bloomington, Ind., Chad and wife Kristy Jerke of Great Bend, Eric and wife Nina Jerke of Folsom Calif.; two brothers Ray and wife Cathy Magstadt of Elk Point, S.D. Rick and wife Sharon Magstadt of Grinnell Iowa; eight grandchildren Alyssa Jerke, Cassidy Jerke and Meghan Jerke of Bloomington, Kaitlyn Jerke, Max Jerke, Zoe Jerke, and Noah Jerke of Great Bend, and Rylee Jerke of Folsom. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Magstadt. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend with the Rev. James A Strasen and Rev. Kris Bjerke-Ulliman. Burial will follow at the Great Bend cemetery North. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bryant Funeral home. Memorial are suggested to the Tinity Lutheran Church or Kans for Kids in care of the funeral home. Colonel Albert D. Aberson
1918 - 2006
SHREVEPORT, La. - Col. Albert D. Aberson, 88, died May 19. He was born in Ennis, Texas, on Feb. 19, 1918, the son of Franklin Albert and Jerrel Blanche Nelson Aberson. He graduated from Ennis High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin majoring in petroleum engineering. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet Jan. 16, 1942. He graduated from pilot training on Oct. 9, 1942, as a second lieutenant and was awarded the Silver Wings as a pilot. His first duty station was MacDill Field, Fla., where he received training in the Martin B-26 bomber. He was assigned to the 386th Bomb Group, 555th Bomb Squadron on Dec. 1, 1942. He flew his airplane to England in May 1943 and flew 66 combat missions over Europe, returning to the United States in July 1944. He made the U.S. Air Force his career, retiring a colonel in 1971 as commander of Peterson Field, Colo. After retiring, he worked in the oil industry as vice president with an independent oil company. During his career he served in several positions, including Commander 1603 Support Squadron, Military Transport Command, Nouasseur Air Base Casablanca, North Africa; Chief of Training, Mitchell Air Force Base, Long Island, N.Y.; Chief of Sector Crew Training (SAGE), Gunter Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala.; Commander of the 641st Air Control (Air Defense Command), Goose Air Force Base, Labrador; Surveillance Systems Division Pentagon, Washington D.C. His awards and citations are too numerous to mention, but he was most proud of his having been in D-Day operations and flying his B-26 bomber back to base from France on one engine after a direct hit in the right engine. He was awarded his first D.F. Cross for that mission. His Legion of Merit medal was awarded at his retirement in Colorado Springs, Colo. Col. Aberson was a 50-year member of the Masons and a current member of Broadmoor Masonic Lodge-Shreveport; a 50- year member of the Scottish Rite Bodies; a Knight Commander of Court of Honor; a 50-year member of the Ancient Order, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, El Karubah Temple, the Legion of Honor Unit, the National Sojourners and The Retired Officers Association. He was predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Dorothy Simmons Aberson of Shreveport, La. He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie M. Aberson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; his daughter, Diana F. Deutsch and her husband Mel, of Lawrence, Kan., their children: Michelle Lang (Keith) and Mike Deutsch of Kansas and their children also of Kansas; his son, Albert D. Aberson Jr. and wife Beverly, and granddaughter Amanda D. Aberson, all of Marietta, Ga. Also surviving him are two stepdaughters; Lynn B. Weston and husband Tom of Sarasota, Fla., their children: T. J. Weston of Atlanta, Ga. and Wes Weston of Sarasota, Fla.; Cathe B. Hege and husband Ed of Advance, N.C., their children: Erin Hege of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Will Hege (Leslie) of Clemmons, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Anna Jerrel Cress of Dallas, Texas; nephew, Jerrel Cress and niece, Karen (Mike) Partin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Shriner's Hospital, 3100 Samford Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71103, or to Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, 3543 Robinhood Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27106, of which Col. Aberson was a member. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Osborn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Osborn Funeral Home, followed by a Masonic Graveside service with Military Honors at Forest Park cemetery, Shreveport, La. Pallbearers will be his sons-in-law and grandsons. A 'Celebration of Life' will be held at the El Karubah Temple following the burial service.
