Frankie Scott

Frankie Scott, 71 of Richmond, went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2016, at VA Medical Center in Lexington.

He was born at Hardy, Oct. 10, 1944, the son of the late Ethel and Clayton Scott.

He was a member and long-time moderator of the Mount Pleasant Old Regular Baptist Church at Sidney.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Tommy, David, and Jimmy Scott.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jewel Scott of Richmond; his beloved daughter, Sherry Scott of Richmond; his nephew Tim Scott (Sue) of St. Claire Shores, Mich.; his niece Gina Tincher (Tony) of

Howell, Mich.; two great-nieces, Marissa Scott and Selena Klaassen; two great-nephews, Hunter and Treyton Klaassen; and a host of cherished extended family, friends and special cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the Mount Pleasant Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Albert Cable, Tommy Dials, Paul Boggs, and Lacy Walters officiating. Burial will follow in the Julius Scott Cemetery at Hardy with Tim Scott, Bobby Scott Jr., Darrell Wellman, Junior Young, Curtis Bogar, Michael Hunt, Johnny Hall, Bobby Thornsbury, Walter Bogar, and Daniel Stanley serving as pallbearers and Greg Scott, Keith Young, and Jimmy Hall serving as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m.on Wednesday and Thursday at the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with special services both nights at 7. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Harold Slone

Harold B. Slone, 82, died Sept. 27, 2016, in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

He was born in Elkhorn City and resided in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Prior to retirement, he was the Chief X-Ray technician at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center. He served in the U.S. Army for 4 years and was stationed at Ft. Knox. He was an active member of Southside Christian Church, where he served in various leadership positions. He enjoyed the outdoors and participating in his passion of fishing at his favorite fishing hole, where he would spend hours “wetting a hook”.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Slone; son, Tim Sone (Nancy); grandson, Charlie Slone; granddaughter, Caroline Slone; step-daughter, Mary Stanco; step-sons, Michael Capobianco and Glen Capobianco; multiple step-grandchildren; sisters, Geraldine Marshall and Betty Sanders; brothers, Jimmy Slone and Winford Slone; half-brothers, David Sanders and Robert Sanders; and multiple nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m., with a service to follow at 11a.m, Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Southside Christian Church in Fort Pierce, Florida. Arrangements are under the direction of Haisley Funeral & Cremation Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in the name of Harold B. Slone to Southside Christian Church, Ft. Pierce, Fla.

David Stewart

David Stewart, 58, of Elkhorn City, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, at Jacksonville, Fla.

He was born in Pikeville, July 24, 1958, the son of the late Thomas and Eva Mullins Stewart.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Stewart.

He is survived by one brother, Jackie Stewart of Elkhorn City; four sisters, Linda “Susie” Branham and Carol Thomas, both of Lexington and Zetta Sawyers and Gail Prater, both of Elkhorn City; one step-sister, Lynn “Tootsie” Tolliver of Pikeville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Shellie Tackett and Jimmy Dale Sanders officiating. Burial followed at Dow Brooks Cemetery at Draffin. Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.

Phyllistene Wellman

Phyllistene Wellman, 82, of Elkhorn City, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at Mt. View Healthcare Center.

She was born at Jimmies Creek, Oct. 19, 1933, the daughter of the late Don and Mae Ratliff McCoy.

She was a cook.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Junior Wellman; two brothers, Ken McCoy and Carl McCoy; and two sisters, Louisa McCoy and Pearlie Jean McCoy.

She is survived by three sons, Randy Wellman of Hellier, Danny Wellman of Elkhorn City, and Johnny Wellman of W. Va.; one daughter, Donna Ratliff of Belcher; one sister, Helen Looney of Elkhorn City; two brothers, Lonnie McCoy of Shelbiana and Duke McCoy of Jimmies Creek; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Dale Sanders, Steve Coleman, and Bobby Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson Cemetery at Draffin. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc. of Elkhorn City.

Agnes Sue Williams

Agnes Sue Williams, 73, of Aflex, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at her home.

She was born at Goody, Aug. 2, 1943, the daughter of the late Dave and Delcie Williams.

She was retired from Big Lots, a member of the Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church and the Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Meridith Gail Williams; brothers, Gordon and Eugene Wallace; sisters, Minnie Goins, Janet Trout, Edna Truskowski, Kay Francis Bevins, and Juanita Matney; and her great-granddaughter, Alonah Faith Francis.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Williams of Aflex; children, Scotty Williams (Edwina) of Stone, Wanda McCoy of Stopover, Bill Williams (Brenda) of Kermit, W. Va., Dee Dee Blackburn (Keith) of Toler, and Loretta Williams of Va.; son-in-law, Garry McCoy of Burnwell; brothers, Ricky Williams (Pam) and Don Williams (Connie) all of Ga.; grandchildren, Sarah Ferguson (Adam), Tabitha Francis (Brett), Steven (D.J.) Williams, Kayala Scott (Brandon), Garrett McCoy (Tiffany) and Dustin Tyler Ball; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Charlee Ferguson, Laiken and Miley Francis, Skylar, Jailynn, and Joseph Williams, Jaden and Landon Scott, and Daniell Varney; special friends, Eldon Francis and Todd Burton; her little dog, Lucy; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church with Lee Dotson and Joseph Crum officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, with Garry McCoy, Garrett McCoy, Steven Williams, Brett Francis, Adam Ferguson, Brandon Scott, Clifton and Gordi Wallace serving as pallbearers. Arrangements are under the direction of the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Dennis Dale “Doobie” Williamson

Dennis Dale “Doobie” Williamson, 59, of Phyllis, died Thursday, Sept. 29, at Pikeville.

He was born at Pikeville, July 22, 1957, the son of the late Carl and Maurine Audrey Aldridge Williamson.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Randy, and Bobby Williamson.

He was a coal truck driver and had been a member of the Miller’s Creek Church of Christ since 1999.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Pierce Williamson; three sons, Randall Williamson (Jonda) of Lick Creek, Willie Williamson of Pikeville, and Timmy Williamson of Virgie; one daughter, Amanda Williamson of Pikeville; three brothers, Donnie, Mike (Barbara), and Eugene Williamson, all of Grapevine; four sisters, Betty Samons of McDowell, Bonnie Ratliff of Poplar Creek, Va., Patricia Williamson of Pikeville and Rita Morrison of Paintsville; and three grandchildren, Faye and Cheyenne Scarberry, and Brayden Williamson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016 at the Miller’s Creek Church of Christ with Bryant Justice, Dan Fraley and Randall Prason officiating. Burial will follow in the Reynolds Cemetery at Grapevine. Arrangements are under the direction of J. W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Mose Adkins Jr.

Mose Adkins Jr., 78, of Dry Fork, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at his residence.

He was born in Pike County, Sept. 17, 1938, the son of the late Mose and Virgie Thacker Adkins.

He was the husband of the late Lois Lee Damron Adkins, a coal miner, and a believer of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Mildred Ann Adkins and Tiffany Michelle Adams; one brother, Barry Adkins; and three half-sisters, Juanita Stalker, Kathleen Robinson, and Allene Stanley.

He is survived by two sons, Curtis Adkins and Mose Ed Adkins; two daughters, Hattie Newsome and Sandra Adams; three brothers, Jimmy Jack Adkins, Larry Adkins, and Ed Adkins; two sisters, Hattie Marie Bolin and Iona Mae Keene; five grandchildren; four great –grandchildren; four step–grandchildren; and a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Greasy Creek Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Annie E. Young Cemetery with Jimmy Jack Adkins officiating

Visitation will be all day Wednesday at the chapel with services at 7. The arrangements are under the direction of the Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Joan Ratliff Edmonds

Joan Ratliff Edmonds, 83, entered Heaven’s pearly gates on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016.

She was born in Pikeville, April 14, 1933, the daughter of the late Stonie and Ona Mae Blackburn Ratliff.

Joan married Paul “Pete” Edmonds on October 14, 1955, and they enjoyed almost 61 years of marriage together.

Her loving and compassionate spirit, were evidenced in her relationship with the Lord. Joan, along with her husband, Pete, was one of the founding members of Maranatha Bible Church in 1980. She was the epitome of the virtuous woman Solomon wrote about in Proverbs 31. She was a woman of strength, strong character, wisdom, and integrity. To those who knew her, she was more precious than rubies.

She graduated from Pikeville High School and went on to study accounting at Pikeville College. At age 70, she became a survivor of breast cancer and had battled vascular dementia for the last ten years of her life.

She has reunited in Heaven with her parents; two brothers, Jimmie Foster Ratliff and Silas Donald Ratliff; and her son, Johnny Allen Edmonds.

She was blessed with four children, Gregory Dean Edmonds (Gay), Johnny Allen Edmonds, Paula Kaye McCarty (Joey), and Charles Kevin Edmonds (Kristi). God gave her five grandchildren, Kasey Elizabeth McCarty (Jordan), Hollie Leigh Anne McCarty, Joshua Nelson McCarty, Hannah McKenzie Edmonds, and Zachary Caleb Edmonds; three special great-grandkids, Michael Clyde Page, Anna Victoria Page, and Paul “Andy” Anderson Abshire, all of whom are proud to have called her “Mom-mom”; two brothers, Hillard Jean Ratliff and Howard Jessie Ratliff; and a multitude of family and friends.

She had a host of special caregivers, Stephanie Renee Ratliff, Chessa MeShae Adams, Randi Nichole Varney, Gracelynn Elizabeth Varney, Randon Gage Varney, Anna Brooke Sanders, Keegan Jace Sanders, and Keneetha Renee Slone, who will miss her deeply.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Joshua McCarty officiating. Burial followed in the Edmonds Cemetery at Raccoon. Arrangements were under the direction of the Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.

Ruth Gay Hunt

Ruth Gay Hunt, 88, of Hardy, died Monday, Sept.26, 2016, at the Tug Valley Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Ed Lockard officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Arrangements are under the direction of the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
