Roger Dale Bryant, 75, of Napoleon, Ohio, formerly of Pike County, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at the Filling Memorial Home of Mercy, Napoleon.

Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Cochran Cemetery, Canada. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Eric Edmonds

Eric Dwayne Edmonds, 38, of Shelbiana, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements are under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Dixie Damron

Dixie Lee Damron, 81, of Elkhorn City, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, at her home.

She was born in Wolfpit, April 17, 1934, the daughter of the late Elmer Coleman and Hastie May Coleman.

She was a homemaker, a former teacher’s aide and volunteer with the Elkhorn City Ambulance Service. She was a member of Blessed Hope Church, a member of the women’s auxiliary and a member of the Ferrells Creek Neighborhood Watch.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Orville Coleman; and one sister, Dimple Coleman.

She is survived by her husband, Ross T. Damron; three sons, Lanny Ross Damron of Elkhorn City, Larry Dale Damron of Pikeville and Joel Dean Damron of Versailles; two daughters, Lynnetta Lee Turner of Clinchco, Va., and Loretta Jo Holbrook of Albuquerque, N.M.; three brothers, Granville Coleman of Ohio, and Grady Coleman and Goble Coleman, both of Elkhorn City; eight sisters, Carol Adkins and Freda Brouse, both of Ohio, Bonnie Summerfield of Florida, Beatrice Adkins and Rachel May, both of Elkhorn City, Burma Ratliff of Pikeville, Berdie Coleman of Rockhouse and Brenda Bartley of Danville, Va.; nine grandchildren, Julia Stump, Leanna O’Quinn, Jana Hylton, Rae Gena Turner, Clark Anthony Damron, Terrance Robert Holbrook, Lana McDonald, Ross Jacob Damron and Mark Dale Damron; 18 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, and Sunday, Jan. 31, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Tommy England and Daniel Ratliff officiating. A final funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, at the Blessed Hope Church. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking family and friends to do a “Quick55, ” take five minutes and check all of your smoke detectors and take $5 and buy a new detector and install it in the sleeping room of a loved one.

Ross Damron

Ross T. Damron, 85, of Elkhorn City, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, at his home.

He was born in Draffin, Sept. 21, 1930, the son of the late Joel Damron and Alta Potter Damron.

He was a teacher, formerly employed by the Pike County Board of Education, a member of Blessed Hope Church, a member of DAV Chapter #140, Elkhorn City, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Ferrells Creek Neighborhood Watch.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie Lee Coleman Damron; three sons, Lanny Ross Damron of Elkhorn City, Larry Dale Damron of Pikeville and Joel Dean Damron of Versailles; two daughters, Lynnetta Lee Turner of Clinchco, Va., and Loretta Jo Holbrook of Albuquerque, N.M.; one brother, Kenneth Damron of Ashland; nine grandchildren, Julia Stump, Leanna O’Quinn, Jana Hylton, Rae Gena Turner, Clark Anthony Damron, Terrance Robert Holbrook, Lana McDonald, Ross Jacob Damron and Mark Dale Damron; 18 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Goebel Swiney

Goebel Swiney, 78, of Elkhorn City, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Dow Brooks Cemetery, Draffin. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.

Paul Varney

Paul William Varney, 71, of Pikeville, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born at Ransom, April 27, 1944, the son of the late Rudolph and Thelma Hager Varney.

He was a retired coal miner, a member of United Mine Workers of American, a U.S. Army veteran, and moderator of Samaria Primitive Church and Long Fork Primitive Baptist Church.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers. Paris Rufus Varney and Engling Varney.

He is survived by his sons, Paul William Varney Jr. (Ummi) of Plano, Texas, Ronald Bruce Varney (Drucilla Ann) of Fairmont, Ind, , Mitchell Kevin Varney (Brenda J.) of Lexington and Michael Keith Varney of Huntington, Ind, ; two brothers, Rudolph Varney Jr. (Helen Varney) of Elkhorn City and Bobby Leon Varney (Diana) of Huntington, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Paul William Varney III and Mia Elizabeth Varney; and a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Smith, Shawn Dotson and Jeff Dotson officiating. Burial will follow in the Varney Cemetery, Kimper, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday, with special services at 7.

Military graveside services will be conducted by Belfry Chapter #141 Disabled American Veterans.

Gordon Wallace

Gordon Lee Wallace, 65, of Goody, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, in Belfry.

He was born in Goody, Dec. 30, 1950, the son of the late Dave and Delcie Williams.

He was a retired carman for N&W Railroad, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served in Vietnam, and a loving member of the Little Dove United Baptist Church.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judi Wallace; and five sisters, Edna Truskowski, Juanita Matney, Janet Trout, Minnie Goins and Kay Bevins.

He is survived by one daughter, Chastity Leigh Woolf (Joseph Louis) of Union; two sons, Gordon Lee Wallace II (Star) of Belfry and Clifton Edward Wallace (Angie) of Goody; two brothers, Rick Williams (Pam) of Gordon, Ga., and Don Williams (Connie) of Irwinton, Ga.; one sister, Sue Williams (Frank) of Aflex; six loving grandchildren, Austin Kitchen, Kierra Caines, Joleigh Woolf, Emily Pierce, Matthew Woolf and Allyson Wallace; a brother-in-law, Paul Bevins of Gordon; and a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in the Coburn Point Cemetery, Huddy, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Military graveside services will be conducted by Belfry Chapter #141 Disabled American Veterans.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Jacob’s Well, 151 E. 3rd Ave., Williamson, WV 25661, in Gordon’s memory. He loved people and loved to help them in any way he could.

Ruby Bishop

Ruby Damron Bishop, 88, of Pikeville, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.

She was born in Pikeville, May 16, 1927, the daughter of the late William Damron and Fannie Roberts Damron.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Regular Baptist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie James Bishop; one son, Glen Bishop Jr., who died in 1999; six brothers, Earl Damron, Arthur Damron, William Damron Jr., Ben Damron, Adam Damron and Gerome Damron; and two sisters, Marie Williams and Virginia Walters.

She is survived by two sons, James E. Bishop and Perry Bishop, both of Pikeville; two daughters, Marie Smith and Phyllis Adkins, both of Pikeville; five grandchildren, Kasey Paschall, Nicky Bishop, Terry M. Bishop, Brianne Lee Bishop and Taylor Scott Bishop; two step grandchildren, Jonathan Scott and Brandy Meek; three great-grandchildren, Katey Paschall, Kayla Paschall and Abby Yuhas; and three step great-grandchildren, Austin Collins, Cody Smith and Zack Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Jack Horn officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday, with special services at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Floyd Collier

Floyd Collier, 69, of Virgie, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Letcher County, March 14, 1946, the son of the late Daniel and Delia Potter Collier.

He is survived by one son, James Dale Collier of Belleville, Mich.; one daughter, Tina Holden of Vidalia, Ga.; one stepdaughter, Dawn Carter of Ypsilanti, Mich.; four brothers, Marcus Collier of Winchester, Henry Collier, Coy Collier and Homer Collier, all of Dorton; and two grandchildren, Chelsea Rose Carter and Autumn Sierra Carter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, in the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Hubert Potter officiating. Burial will follow in the Collier Brothers Cemetery, Dorton. Arrangements are under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.

Lona Hall

Lona Johnson Potter Hall, 98, of Jenkins, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at her home.

She was born in Pikeville, Sept. 6, 1917, the daughter of the late Shelley B. Johnson and Martha Johnson.

She was retired from Bill Potter Motors Inc. and was a member of the Regular Baptist faith.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Potter; four brothers, Shelley B. Johnson Jr., Harold R. “Sonny” Johnson and Earl Scott Johnson; and five sisters, Lola Beverly, Lela Kelly, Billy Blackburn, Bobby Dingus and Mary Agnus Johnson.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Dolph Kelly officiating. Burial followed in the Kelly Cemetery. Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Paul Keen

Paul Keen, 68, of Pikeville, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, in the Pleasant Valley Church, Harolds Branch, with burial following in the Blankenship Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.

Crystal Massie

Crystal Massie, 36, of Springfield, Ohio, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
