Kay Francis Dotson Blackburn

Kay Francis Dotson Blackburn - of Ransom, KY went home to be with the Lord on Saturday; March 12, 2016 in Sevierville, TN. Born August 29, 1936 at Ransom, KY; she was the daughter of the late Ancie E. Dotson Sr. and the late Dollie McCoy Dotson.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe K. Blackburn, her brother, Ancie E. Dotson II, and three infant siblings, Buddy, Patricia Ann, and Mary Lee.

Kay was a retired teacher from the Pike County Board of Education having served as an educator for many years at the Blackberry Grade School. She was a member of the Blackberry Interdenominational Church at Ransom, KY.

Survivors include her sister, Zola (John) Phillips of Ransom, KY, three nephews, Lieutenant Colonel U.S. Air Force Ancie E. (Amanda) Dotson III of Hillsboro, TN, Phillip Perry Dotson of Lawrenceburg, KY, and

John Chris (Angie) Phillips of Ransom, KY, one niece, Jonna Kay (Henry) Banks of Forest Hills, KY, three great-nieces, Riley Marie Banks, Linzee Lee Phillips, and Ashlee Jane Phillips, three great-nephews, Steven Henry Banks, Jonathan Edward Banks, and Cannon Edward Dotson, a sister-in-law, Mary K. Pope of Morehead, KY, and a special friend, Jan Phillips of Sevierville, TN.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday; March 16, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Paul Dotson and Harvey Whitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Dotson Cemetery at Ransom, KY. Active pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be her cousins.

Visitation will be after 6:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Danny Coleman

Danny Coleman - age 64 of Ransom, KY passed away Saturday; May 28, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Born March 22, 1952 in Pike County, KY; he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary Coleman.

He was a graduate of Belfry High School and a disabled coal miner.

Survivors include his special friends and caregivers, Jack and Flossie Miller of Ransom, KY, his brother, Anthony Coleman Jr. of Ransom, KY, and his sister, Annalean Curry of Kentucky.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday; June 1, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman Cemetery on the Left Fork of Blackberry; Ransom, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6-9 P.M. Monday and Tuesday at the funeral home with special services at 7:00 P.M. Monday with Burton Murphy officiating and at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday with Mike Smith officiating.

Cannie C. Thacker Sr.

Cannie Carman Thacker Sr. went to see Jesus on Tuesday; May 24, 2016 from the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. Born March 9, 1933 at Fish Trap, KY; he was the son of the late Moses and Vada (Hackney) Thacker of McAndrews, KY

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by four brothers, four sister, and two half-sisters.

This past Christmas he celebrated 60 years of marriage. He will be greatly missed by his church, Hillsdale Assembly of God, his family, and his friends. He was a lifetime member of the Milan, Michigan Masonic Lodge, a Veteran of the Korean War, and he was retired from the Ford Motor Company in Wayne, Michigan.

Cannie is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sonna B. (Williamson) Thacker of Hillsdale, Michigan, his daughters, Pamela Diana (Rick) Castle and Connie Sue (David) Songer, his son, Cannie Carman "Pete"

Thacker Jr., 1 brother, Gary Thacker, 3 sisters, Shirley Varney, Kaye Lewis, and Arlene Thacker, his grandchildren, James Harvey Rowe Jr., Sheldon Thacker, Korren Coleman, and Jennifer Marie Castle, his great-grandchildren, Alyvia Rowe, Alayna Rowe, and James Harvey Rowe III. Also surviving is a host of friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Pastor Joseph Crum officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, KY.

Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. Friday and one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the ICU Cardiac Unit of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital at P.O. Box 995, Ann Arbor, MI 48106.

Connie Jo Zornes

Connie Jo Zornes - age 62 of Dix Fork; Sidney, KY passed away Sunday; May 22, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Born September 18, 1953 in Columbus, OH; she was the daughter of the late Richard and Gladys McQuillan Kountz.

In additon to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Lou Ann Kountz.

She was a former nurse's aide at Wexner Heritage in Columbus, and she was a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Alvis Zornes of Dix Fork, her children, Melissa Varney of Prestonsburg, KY, Roger Reed Jr. of Hatfield, KY, and Juanita Elswick of Sidney, KY, a step-son, Darrel Canterbury of Columbus, OH, 2 brothers, William Kountz of Columbus, OH and John Kountz of Boston, MA, her grandchildren, Kayla McCoy, Ashley May, Tiffany May, Jonathan May, Derek Reed, Kelli Reed, William Coleman, Tresa Kulik, Larry Reed, Leann Holbrook, Tyler Elswick, Darrel Reed, and Andrew Reed. Also surviving is a host of great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday; May 26, 2016 at 12:00 P.M. from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Bro. Edward Varney officiating. Burial will follow in the Family Cemetery at Dix Fork; Sidney, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6:00 P.M. Tuesday and anytime Wednesday at the funeral home with special services nightly at 7:00 P.M.

Danny Coleman

Danny Coleman - age 64 of Ransom, KY passed away Saturday; May 28, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Born March 22, 1952 in Pike County, KY; he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary Coleman.

Emily Dawn Ooten

Heaven welcomed a very special young lady on Monday, June 20, 2016. What joy there must have been when Emily Dawn Ooten, 26, of Pembroke, VA formerly of Belfry, KY, entered the portals of Glory to be met by her beloved brother, Daniel Scott Ooten. Born July 11, 1989, at Duke University in Durham, NC, Emily was the cherished daughter of Robert "Bobby" Ooten of Hardy, KY and Christie Lynn (Fields) Gillispie of Pembroke, VA. Emily was later blessed to be the stepdaughter of Frelin Workman of Belfry, KY, and Brian Gillispie of Pembroke, VA, and Christine McCoy of Logan, WV.

Emily Ooten was loved by everyone that she ever met, as she was always so friendly and outgoing. Despite her challenges throughout her life with spina bifida, Emily never failed to lift the spirits of others, and her strength and fortitude was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Additionally, left here on earth to grieve her passing are her grandparents, Pyrus and Jewell Fields of Belfry, KY and Janice and Bill Brown of Delbarton, WV. Also surviving are her siblings, Cody and Selena Ooten of Logan, WV. Emily is also survived by uncle, Rodney (Michelle) Fields of Logan, WV, aunt, Bethany (Chris) Dotson of Nova Scotia, Canada, and aunt, Melissa McCoy of Delbarton, WV. Emily will be missed by a host of cherished stepbrothers, stepsisters, cousins, uncles, aunts, family, and friends.

Special thanks to Dr. Abbas of Williamson, WV, and Dr. Reedy of Pikeville, KY for their excellent care and consideration for Emily.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday; June 24, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Bro. Wayne Runyon officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV.

Visitation will be from 6-9 P.M. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Erna Mae Diamond

Erna Mae Diamond of Concord, NC formerly of Ransom, KY, daughter of the late Adron and Dixie Smith Varney, born September 8, 1929 at Johns Creek, KY, departed this life on Tuesday; June 14, 2016 at the age of 86.

God saw she was tired and a cure was not to be so He put His arms arounder her and whispered, "come with Me". We loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us that He only takes the best.

Erna retired from the Nolan Toll Bridge after many years of service and she was a member of the Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Rev. John Lee Diamond Jr, a special son, Larry Ray Diamond, sons-in-law, Jackie Leon Plumb and Kenneth Finley, a brother, Estill Varney, and sisters, Elsie Hackney, Lilly Collins, Ruby Collins, and Goldie Bell.

Those that remain to cherish and embrace her memory include her son, Chester Douglas Diamond and wife Vicki of Fort Gay, WV, her daughters, Thelma Jo Plumb of Ransom, KY and Wanda Finley of Kannapolis, NC, and Buddy Thompson of Dans Branch whom she always thought of as a son. Erna has 6 grandchildren, Jackie Leon Plumb Jr. of Blackberry, KY, John Clarence Plumb of Merrimac, WV, Robert Ray Smith of Concord, NC, Tracia Lynn Smith of Kannapolis, NC, Kimberly Renae Whitt of South Carolina, and Kevin Douglas Diamond of Las Vegas, NV, 3 great-grandchildren, Hope Dingus of Hardy, KY, Tyler Plumb of Pond Creek, KY, and Jonathan Smith of Concord, NC, 2 great-great-grandchildren, Brycen Daniels of Hardy, KY and Jonah Blake Dingus of Hardy, KY, and 1 surviving sister, Kozetti Hensley of Oak Hill, OH.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday; June 17, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Bro. Haskell Runyon Jr. and Bro. Harrison Baisden officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV with grandsons and other family serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6:00 P.M. Thursday evening at the funeral home with services at 7:00 P.M.

Retha Mae "Bootsie" Runyon

Retha Mae "Bootsie" Runyon - age 67 of McCarr, KY went home to be with the Lord Saturday; July 30, 2016 at 1:30 P.M. from her home following a lingering illness. Born March 15, 1949 at Coal Mountain, WV; she was the daughter of the late George Lee Hyden and the late Nellie Mae Lyons Hyden Mutter.

Retha was a 1966 graduate of Belfry High School, a member of the Hardy Church of Christ, and she was a retired receptionist for Lambert Eyecare.

Survivors include her beloved spouse, Rush F. Runyon of McCarr, KY, her step-father, Harold Dale Mutter of McCarr, KY, her children, Retha Nell (John) Hunt of Belfry, KY and Richard Keith (Felicia) Baldwin of Belfry, KY, two siblings, William C. Hyden of McCarr, KY and Glenna (Eddie) Matney of McCarr, KY, her grandchildren, Cory Edward (Krissa) Matney, Chelsea Hunt (Jeremy) Workman, Grace Nicole Baldwin, James Tyler Baldwin, and Heather Leigh Matney, and a special sister/friend, Barbara Mutter of McCarr, KY.

Retha "Bootsie" Runyon was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her entire life was lived as an example to others of what God intends for a Christian woman to be. She believed that family always comes first and that you do everything you can for everyone that you can every day. She leaves behind a legacy of love and and a host of family and friends who love her very much!

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday; August 2, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Bro. Ed Lockard officiating. Burial will follow in the Anderson Hatfield Cemetery at McCarr, KY. Active pallbearers will be Keith Baldwin, James Baldwin, Cory Matney, Jeremy Workman, John Hunt, Eddie Matney, William Lee Hyden, and Mike Alley. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Hyden and Curt Mutter.

Visitation will be from 6-9 P.M. Monday evening at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Appalachian Hospice Care, Inc. P.O. Box 3457 Pikeville, KY 41502.

Haven Lee Eldridge

Haven Lee Eldridge - age 39 of Dandridge, TN formerly of Freeburn, KY passed away Monday; July 11, 2016 at Vulcan, WV. Born July 20, 1976 at Williamson, WV; he was the son of Alice Gearles Eldridge of Dandridge, TN and the late Haven Eldridge.

In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Sissy Eldridge, his maternal grandparents, Carrie Chapman and Leonard Gearles, and his paternal grandparents, Lennie and Anthony Eldridge.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his step-father, Richard Dotson of Dandridge, TN, 2 sons, Donavon Eldridge of Freeburn, KY and Daymein Eldridge of Dandridge, TN, 1 brother, Jeffery Layne of Dandridge, TN, 5 sisters, Louise Ratliff of Morristown, TN, Debbie Layne of Freeburn, KY, Patty Layne of Freeburn, KY, LaVonne Eldridge of Dandridge, TN, and Sierra Walker of Dandridge, TN, a special nephew, Gregory Layne of Dandridge, TN and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted Monday; July 18, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. from the Freeburn Community Cemetery at Freeburn, KY with burial to follow.

Visitation will be from 6-9 P.M. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Bryan G. Deskins

Bryan G. Deskins - age 57 of South Williamson, KY passed away suddenly Friday; August 26, 2016 in the emergency room at the Tug Valley Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, KY. Born October 30, 1958 in Williamson, WV; he was the son of Vonna Stepp Deskins of Hatfield, KY and the late Clarence Deskins.

In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Doug Deskins, and his father-in-law, Quincy Lambert.

Bryan worked as a coal miner for over 30 years and was currently employed as a factory worker for Sherwin Williams in Georgetown, KY. In addition to being a hard worker and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, Bryan loved to be out riding his motorcycle.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Kim Lambert Deskins of South Williamson, KY, his children, Amy (Luke) Maynard of Georgetown, KY and Christopher Deskins of Irvine, KY, 1 granddaughter, who was his pride and joy and the light of his life, Adisyn Quinn Maynard, 1 brother, Gary (Juanita) Deskins of Cynthiana, KY, his mother-in-law, Faye Lambert of South Williamson, KY, 2 brothers-in-law, James Lambert of Lexington, KY and Scott (Leta) Lambert of Richmond, KY, a sister-in-law, Alisa Vance of South Williamson, KY, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday; August 30, 2016 at 12:00 P.M. from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Pastor Gary Robbins officiating and burial following with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6-9 P.M. Monday evening at the funeral home.

Brenda Joyce Lee

Brenda Joyce Lee - age 60 of McCarr, KY passed away Thursday; August 25, 2016 in the emergency room at the Tug Valley Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, KY. Born September 6, 1955 at Argo, KY; she was the daughter of the late Carl and Violet Caudill Hurley.

Brenda was a former cook and she was a member of the McVeigh United Baptist Church.

Survivors include her loving husband, Melvin Lee of McCarr, KY, 2 sisters, Lorraine Hatfield of Delbarton, WV and Joyce Slone of North Carolina, 3 brothers, Brady, Dock, and Charles Slone all of North Carolina, 2 brothers-in-law, Elvis Lee of Ages, KY and John (Pat) Lee of Portland, IN, a sister-in-law, Ruth James of Huddy, KY, and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends that she made along the way.

May God be with you. You will surely be missed!

Funeral services will be conducted Monday; August 29, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Bro. Larry Hubbard officiating and other ministers of the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church assisting. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, KY.

Visitation will be from 6-9 P.M. Sunday evening at the funeral home with services at 7:00 P.M.
