Freedie A. James, 77, of Pikeville, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Valley Health Care Center.
He was born in Pikeville, October 22, 1932, the son of the late Clarence and Rebecca Spears James. He was a coal miner and of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by one son, Freedie M. James of Sassafras; one brother, George Blackburn of Beckley, W. Va.; one grandson, Stephen James; and one great-grandchild, Shawn A. James.
Freedie also leaves behind many other friends and loved ones to mourn his passing. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Goody Ray Deskins, 64, of Raccoon Creek passed from this earthly life on Saturday July 3, 2010 at the Pikeville Medical Center. He was born on August 25, 1945, a son of the late Goody and Sally Bevins Deskins. Goody worked as a self employed trucker and in the purchasing department for the Canada Coal Mining Company and he was a member of the Mayflower Unity Baptist Church.. Goody was always very involved within his community. He served as a Marine, was the president of the Kimper School Boosters Club, served as fire chief at the Kimper Fire Department, and was a lifetime member of the Betsy Layne D.A.V.
In addition to his parents, Goody was preceded in death by one brother, Ben Deskins and by one sister, Gaynelle Tatum.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marquetta McCoy Deskins; two daughters, Elisia Ghormly and her husband Marty of Meta, Kentucky and Amy Bevins and her husband Scott of Zebulon, Kentucky; two sisters, Shirley Phillips of Kimper and Justine Lovell of Alabama; and by four grandchildren, MacKenzie and Madison Ghormley, and Bradley and Westin Bevins.
Goody leaves behind many other friends and loved ones to mourn his passing. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Hassell Ratliff, 63, of Kimper, Kentucky passed from this earthly life on Friday, June 25, 2010 at the Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born May 21, 1947, a son of the late Butler and Ollie Thacker Ratliff. Hassell was a former coal miner for Canada Coal where he held the position of a section foreman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, and by three sisters, Josephine Ratliff, Ivalene Ratliff, and Ernestine Hess.
Hassell is survived by his wife, Barbara Gail Thacker Ratliff of Kimper, one son, Nathan Dempsie Ratliff and his wife Brittany of Pikeville; one brother, Floyd “Buck” Ratliff of Kimper; four sisters, Gaynell Fletcher of Richmond, Kentucky, Bertha Bolden of Kimper, Flora Jane Bostic of Warren, Michigan, and Stella Marie Varney of Raccoon Creek, Kentucky; and also by one granddaughter, Zoey Katherine Ratliff of Pikeville.
Hassell also leaves behind many other friends and loved ones to mourn his passing. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Robert Bryant (Bob) Justice, 77, of Johns Creek Road, Pikeville, passed from this earthly life on Tuesday January 11, 2011 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born on April 27, 1933, a son of the late William Stewart Justice and Laura (Scott) Justice.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Denise Justice and one sister, Helen Ison.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Billie Sue Phillips Justice of Johns Creek; three sons, Robert Lynn “Robbie” Justice and his wife Melissa of Phyllis, KY, Kim Justice and his wife Teena of Meta, KY, and Anthony Jerome Justice of Georgetown, Indiana; and by one daughter, Retha Wooten and her husband Kevin of Jeffersonville, Indiana. He is also survived by two brothers, Joseph W. Justice and William Howard Justice, both of Pikeville, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Bob leaves behind many other friends and loved ones to mourn his passing. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

James was born in Pike County, Ky. Saturday July 20, 1935 a son of the late James and Mary Abshire. James was a retired United Mine Worker of America and a member of the Upper Grapevine Church of Christ. Other than his parents James was preceded in death by four brothers Eugene, Burl, Phil and Arlen Abshire, two sisters Virgie Justice and Ruby Ellis and one great grandchild. James is survived by his loving wife Martha Abshire, two sons David Abshire, William and his wife Brenda Abshire all of Mocksville, North Carolina, Five daughters Loretta Abshire, Colleen Abshire and Missy Abshire all of Mocksville, North Carolina, Sue and her husband Carl Abshire of Yadkinville, North Carolina and Rose Mary Abshire of Greasy Creek Road Shelbiana, Ky., a step son Johnny and his wife Patty Johnson of Lenior, North Carolina, two step daughters Lesa and her husband Jeff Meade of Stanville, Ky. and Norma and her husband Bobby Bevins of Fish Trap, Ky., three sisters Roselee Hensley and Patty Hunt both of Phyllis. Ky., and Novella Bartley of Ohio, seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. James leaves many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. James will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Jackie was born in Pike County, Ky. Monday June 23, 1947 a son of the late Henry and Dorothy (Smith) Clevenger. Jackie was a veteran serving in The United States Army, a mechanic and had worked previously for Wells Motor Company of Pikeville, Ky. Jackie is survived by a son Jackie Howard Clevenger Jr. and a daughter Patricia Thacker both of Pikeville, Ky., five grandchildren Jeff and Brittany Thacker, Candice, Rebecca and Lakeisha Clevenger all of Pikeville, Ky., and a sister Geraldine Justice of Raccoon, Ky. Visitation 5:00 PM Monday December 13, 2010 at Community Funeral Home. Funeral 11: AM Tuesday December 14, 2010 at the funeral home with Larry Goff officiating. Burial will follow in The Smith Family Cemetery at Road Fork Sidney, Ky.

Steve was born in Pike County, Saturday September 5, 1970 the son of Steve and Kathy (Jackson) Charles of Grassy Branch Road Raccoon, Ky. Steve was a graduate of Johns Creek High School and a certified plumber. Other than his parents Steve is survived by a son Jackson Charles of Grassy Branch Road Raccoon, Ky., a daughter Cierra Charles of Tram, Ky. a brother Jason Charles of Grassy Branch Road Raccoon, Ky., and his maternal grandmother Dorothy Jackson of Grassy Branch Road Raccoon, Ky. Visitation 6: PM Sunday December 12, 2010 at Community Funeral Home. Funeral Monday December 13, 2010 at the funeral home with Mike Hobson officiating. Burial will follow in The Bent Branch Cemetery at Meta, Ky.

Makayla Grace Meadows, three months old, of Raccoon Creek, Kentucky entered into rest on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Pikeville Medical Center. She was born on Sunday, August 8, 2010, the daughter of Christopher and Donna Renae (Slone) Meadows.
Makayla was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Jesse Meadows; her great paternal grandparents, Charles Meadows and Elizabeth Belcher; and her great maternal grandfathers, Raymond Slone and Bill Caudill.
In addition to her parents, she leaves behind one brother, Brayden Meadows of Pikeville; her paternal grandparents, Tammy Damron and her husband David of Dorton; her maternal grandparents, Danny and Donna Slone of Raccoon, Kentucky; her paternal great grandparents, Nancy Kendrick & Hilliard Belcher; her maternal great grandparents, Elma Jean Slone and Faye Caudill, both of Raccoon, Kentucky; her aunt and uncles, Bradley Meadows and Nicole and David Dickson; and two cousins, Stephen Craig Slone and Kaitlyn Dixon.
Makayla also leaves behind many other loved ones and friends to sadly miss her. She will remain in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
