Sue Belcher

Sue Belcher, 74, of Bowling Fork, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born at Marrowbone, July 22, 1940, the daughter of the late William Obra Owens and Cora Pearl Belcher Owens.

She was a clerk at Johnson Hardware Store.

She is survived by four sons, Christopher Brian Belcher of Beaver Falls, Pa., Patrick Kerry Belcher of Lexington and Eric Brandon Belcher and Kurt Avery Belcher, both of Elkhorn City; two daughters, Jennifer Belcher of Elkhorn City and Kimberly Berry of Republic, Mo.; one brother, J.C. Owens of Chicago; one sister, Mary Clementine Martin; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at noon Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Wesley Childers officiating. Burial followed in the Clevinger Cemetery, Rockhouse. Arrangements were under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.

"Jack" Bishop

Jackie "Jack" Bishop, 70, of Jeffersonville, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at St. Joseph Hospice.

He was born at Lick Creek, Aug. 26, 1944, the son of the late Kate Bishop.

He was a truck driver and a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era.

Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia King.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Muncey Bishop; and three brothers, Jimmy Hamilton of Jeffersonville, Dante Belcher of Pikeville and Darren Belcher of Cincinnati.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Brian Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Bonnie Burke

Bonnie Johnson Burke, 94, of Piketon, Ohio, formerly of Long Fork of Virgie, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015.

She was born at Hartley, Oct. 23, 1920, the daughter of the late Willie and Spicie Johnson.

She was a member of the loving Calvary Baptist Church family in Piketon for more than 30 years.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James G. Burke; two sons, Roger Lee Burke and Robert F. Burke; as well as six brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by one son, Oliver Wendell Burke and wife Bev of Gregory, Mich.; beloved daughter-in-law, Betty Burke of New Vienna, Ohio; two daughters, Kathy Fielder and husband Tony of Waverly, Ohio, and Donna McCann and husband David of Piketon; nine grandchildren, Wendy Koker and husband David, Troy Burke and wife Nadja, Bobi House and husband Kevin, Beth Kelly, Brenda Harris and husband Lee, Sherri Heigley and husband Jonathan, Tony Fielder and wife Amy, Jo Etta Howard and husband Jeff and Bonnie McCann; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Buster Johnson of Romulus, Mich.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to express our thanks to Traditions at Bristol Village and the staff at Ardena-Pike Medical Center for the excellent care that our mother received. You were truly a blessing.

More than anything, Mom would want her loved ones and everyone to know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Amen and Amen. May you find joy, peace and comfort in this promise.

Friends may call at the Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly, Ohio, from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, in the Calvary Baptist Church, Piketon, with Pastor Jon Black officiating.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday in the Long Fork Old Regular Baptist Church, Long Fork, with special services at 7.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, in the Long Fork Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Amil Little Memorial Cemetery, Long Fork. Arrangements are under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.

Joyce Casey

Joyce A. Casey, 65, of Phelps, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born in Freeburn, Aug. 29, 1949, the daughter of the late Thelma Mae and James Lambert.

Joyce was retired from Matewan Middle School where she taught special education for several years. Joyce loved teaching and cherished each and every one of her students. She was also a Master Beautician. She loved the Lord, and was of the Apostolic faith.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Shorty Casey; one son, Timothy “Timbo” (Linda) Casey of Phelps; two brothers, Neal (Pam) Lambert of Freeburn and Donald (Charlotte) Lambert of Ohio; six sisters, Donna “Mickey” (Clyde) Fields, Shay (Donnie) Dotson and Bonnie (Jimmy) Coleman, all of Freeburn, Rose (Dan) Patierno of Johns Creek, Sue (Billy) Beardon of Mississippi, and Annette Abernathy of Indiana; two granddaughters, Kita Casey and Kimberly Casey, both of Phelps, whom she loved very much; along with a host of nieces and nephews, friends and family to mourn her passing.

Funeral services were held at noon Monday, Jan. 26, in the Jones & West Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard McKinney officiating. Burial followed in the Casey Family Cemetery, Smith Fork, Phelps. Arrangements were under direction of Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps.

Friends & Family will serve as pallbearers.

Leo Coleman

Leo Coleman, 95, of Phelps, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at the Tug Valley ARH Hospital, South Williamson.

He was born in Coleman, Oct. 8, 1919, the son of the late Wade and Gustavia (Dotson) Coleman.

He was a retired coal miner, a member of United Mine Workers of America, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Peter Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Phelps.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Coleman; an infant son, Ricky Darrell Coleman; one daughter, Gwendolyn Kay McCarty; four brothers, Cleo Coleman and Wayne Coleman, and two infant brothers; and two sisters, Polly Dotson and Lizzie Dotson.

He is survived by two sons, Tommy (Brenda) Coleman of McCarr and Kenneth Leo (Elaine Charles) Coleman of Moshiem, Tenn.; four daughters, Betty Lou (Melvin) Compton of Kimper, Glenna (Floyd) Coleman of Phelps, Karen Lynn (Chester) Adams of Pikeville and Sheila Coleman of Lexington; one brother, Freddie (Barb) Coleman of Phelps; two sisters, Mary Hatfield of Blackberry and Ruby Estep of Abingdon, Va.; 12 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, family and friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, in the Peter Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Jimmy Lee Smith and others officiating. Burial followed in the Coleman Dotson Cemetery, Calloway, Phelps. Arrangements were under direction of Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps.

Military services were conducted by Johns Creek DAV Chapter #166.

Mary Coleman

Mary Lizzie Coleman, 90, of Yellow Hill, Elkhorn City, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at her home.

She was born in Elkhorn City, Jan. 19, 1925, the daughter of the late Nelson Ratliff and Lissie Stalker Ratliff.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Marrowbone Missionary Baptist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Coleman; one son, Clayton Coleman; two brothers, Guy Ratliff and Clinard Ratliff; three sisters, Lorraine Justice, Eloise Hester and Gertrude Adkins Lowe; and one grandson, Christopher Coleman.

She is survived by two sons, Blake Coleman of Yellow Hill and Eddie Coleman (Dottie) of Regina; two daughters, Esta "Migg" Sword (Clyde) and Brenda Mattingly (Greg), both of Yellow Hill; six grandchildren, Gaila Runyon Boggs (Michael), Major Coleman (Marcellina), Melissa Stiltner (Todd), Shon Coleman, Ryan Mattingly (Louella) and William C. Coleman; and six great-grandchildren, Jimmie Boggs, Jon-Michael Boggs (Whitney), Dakota Coleman, Major Coleman II Nathanial Mattingly and Kaytlin Coleman.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Roger Johnson, Lloyd Holland and Randy Bentley officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery, Yellow Hill, Elkhorn City. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday with services at 7 p.m.

Roger Dye

Roger Dean Dye, 67, of Pikeville, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at his home.

He was born in Pikeville, July 12, 1947, the son of the late Lilburn Dye and Sarah Gibson Dye.

He was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ for about 25 years.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Viola Darell Dye.

He is survived by one brother, Gene Dye of Pikeville.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the Main Street Church of Christ with Josh Allen and Keith Blackburn officiating. Burial followed in Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville. Arrangements were under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

"Steve" Hall

Stephen “Steve” Allen Hall, 56, of Canada, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at his home.

He was born in Pike County, Aug. 27, 1958, the son of the late George and Emma Lou Slone.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roger Hall.

Stephen is survived by his former spouse, Debbie Lowe; his loving daughter, Brittany (John) Owens; his stepdaughter, Melissa Ratliff; three grandchildren, Peyton Roy Allen Owens, Devin Skylar Baker and James Tyler Akers; two brothers, George (Laurie) Picklesimer and Curtis Hall; three sisters, Karen (Bony) McCoy, Rose Ann and Mary Beth; four nieces, Hannah Hall, Maddie Picklesimer, Kayla and Kellie McCoy; great-niece and great-nephew, Kayden and Kara Grace; and a great host of many more nieces and nephews.

Stephen will be greatly missed by all who knew and adored him.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the Island Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Island Creek Freewill Baptist ministers officiating. Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements were under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Edna Kendrick

Edna Marie Kendrick, 89, of Pikeville, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 25, 1925, the daughter of the late Andy Akers and Alvia Roberts.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kellie Kendrick; and Johnny Akers, Tom Akers, Willard Akers, Herman Akers, Hatler Akers, Estill Akers, Edgar Akers, Mary Alice Akers, Willa Dean Akers, Plummer Akers and Zella Marie Akers.

She is survived by five sons, Finas Akers, Donald Akers, Ralph Kendrick, Johnny Kendrick and Kelly Dwayne Kendrick; one daughter, Patricia Bartley; two brothers, Curtis Akers and Joe Akers; one sister, Ethel Thacker; 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Ida Looney

Ida Jane Looney, 74, of Oklahoma City, Okla., died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, in Oklahoma City.

She was born at Shelbiana, April 3, 1940, the daughter of the late Wesley Adkins and Effie Thacker Adkins.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Jane Looney, who died in 1970; and an infant son and infant daughter.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Gene Looney; one son, Billy Gene Looney Jr. (Jamie); four brothers, Arnold Adkins, Lee Thomas Adkins, Eugene Adkins and Johnny Carl Adkins; five grandchildren, Billy Ray Looney, Bobby Ray Looney, James Blane Looney, Rachel Amanda Looney and Joshua Allen Looney; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Monday, Jan. 26, in the R.H. Ratliff Cemetery, Shelbiana, with Tommy DeHart officiating. Arrangements were under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
