Lily Ailiff

Lily Baker Ailiff, 60, of Williamson, W.Va., died Friday, July 31, 2015 at the home of her sister in Chesapeake, Ohio.

Graveside services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy.

Arrangements were under direction of R.E Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Brylin Branham

Brylin Eric LeMichael Branham, infant son of Lianna Branham of Lick Fork, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Eric Branham.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Erilyn Branham.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, in the Nichols Family Cemetery, Vera Drive.

Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Glen Damron

Glen Damron, 75, of Little Robinson, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Letcher County, June 25, 1940, the son of the late Ted and Eula Short Damron.

Glen was a retired welder and owner of Damron’s Welding for many years. He was a member of Bethel Freewill Baptist Church.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Taylor Robinson; five brothers, Troy Damron, Roy Damron, Fred Damron, Ed Damron and Bobby Damron; and two sisters, Mildred Marples and Pat Damron

He is survived by two sons, Glen Steven Damron (Tamra) of Pikeville and Ted Hutson Damron (Leslie) of Versailles; one daughter, Melissa Jean Robinson of Salvisa; two stepsons, Tony Thomas (Shay) of Pikeville and Jimmy Thomas of Kite; one stepdaughter, Bridgett Bangham (David) of Paintsville; two brothers, Kermit Damron of Clintwood, Va., and Mack Damron of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Madeline Sampson of Pembroke, N.C.; five grandchildren, Sean, Samual, Seth, Bailee and Colby; and five step grandchildren, Mason, Logan, Kennedy, Kayleigh and Wrigley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, in the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Billy Akers, Morgan Chapman and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Calhoun Cemetery, Robinson Creek. Arrangements are under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday with special services at 7.

Dr. Anthony Keene

Dr. Anthony Paul Keene, 39, of Pikeville, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015, the result of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.

He was born in Richlands, Va., March 12, 1976, the son of Veronica Jean (Vicky) Stacy Keene of Grundy, Va., and the late Joseph (Joe) Keene, who died Feb. 7, 2006.

Anthony was a 1994 graduate of Grundy Senior High School and a 1998 graduate of Clinch Valley College of UVA, Wise, Va., where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic degree from Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2004, and completed his residency in Dayton, Ohio. He then moved to Pikeville, where he currently practiced Emergency Medicine at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge #17 in Grundy, a member of the Snoot Club, a member of the American Osteopathic Association Board, certified by the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.

Dr. Keene loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter and fisherman. He won an award for the fourth biggest deer killed in North America in 2012. He completed the World Turkey Slam in 30 days, had completed the Tough Mudder in Spartin, Ky., this past June.

Most of all, he dedicated his life to helping others. He was a loving son, brother, grandson, uncle, colleague and friend, and was of the Church of Christ faith.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Amanda Paige Keene-Sheppard (Andrew) of Abingdon, Va.; one niece, Shaynae Alexius Sheppard of Abingdon; his maternal grandmother, Nora E. Stacy of Grundy; his girl friend, Erin Caudill, and her daughter, Kennedi, both of Pikeville; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of colleagues and friends.

Funeral services for Dr. Anthony Paul Keene will be in the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, with Pastor Paul Ketron officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Va. Arrangements are under direction of Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Chapel of Keen Mountain.

Active pallbearers will be Mike Asher, James Slone, A. J. Ison, Billy Johnson, Chris Adkins, Dr. John Fleming, Shane Keene, Oliver Williamson, Jamie Huffman, Chris Whitt, Kendal Wright and Shannon Wright.

Honorary pallbearers will be the doctors and nursing staff of Pikeville Medical Center, Brandon Matney, Chris Childress, Steven Allen, Tina Allen, Jimmy Rogers, Bill Vanhoose, Dr. Aaron Crum, Todd Mayhorn, Willard Kinzer, Cindy Adkins and her children, Dr. Jimmy Steger, Dr. Bernie Sargeant, Rusty Davis, and all his hunting buddies.

The family will receive friends in the chapel, Wednesday, Aug. 5, after 6 p.m.

Masonic rites and an evening service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made the Shriners Hospital For Children, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, KY, 40502 or the Driven Knights Club, 1868 Six Mile Road, Danville, WV, 25053.

John Kendrick

John Kendrick, 75, of Pikeville, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Pikeville, Aug. 6, 1939, the son of the late Hibbard Kendrick and Missouri Slone Kendrick.

He was disabled all his life.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ruey Kendrick; and one sister, Ada Ray.

He is survived by one son, Phillip; two brothers, Ray Kendrick (Coradia) of Twinsburg, Ohio, and Noah Kendrick (Janet); three special nephews, Noah Trenton, Brett and Nathan; and one special niece, Brigetta Collins Darnell.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Primitive Baptist ministers officiating.

Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana.

Arrangements were under direction direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Patricia Little

Patricia J. Adkins Little, 83, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Little.

Pat was born at Millard and resided there periodically during her life. At one time, she and Marvin ran the Valhalla Mobile Home Park.

She was the last remaining child of Edna and Kenneth Adkins.

She left behind her children, Denice Wolf (Kenneth), Terri Price (Dennis), Cheryl Herr and Kenneth Little (Diane).

She had nine loving grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her kind and loving spirit.

There will be a memorial burial service at the family farm in Virginia, in September.

Arrangements are under direction of J.L. Peters Funeral Home of Lincoln Park, Mich.

James Matney

James L. Matney, 80, of Lick Creek, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015.

James was born in Pike County, Oct. 8, 1934, the son of the late Elzie and Eunice (Abshire) Matney.

James was a devoted Christian and a long-standing member of the Lick Creek Holiness Church, a retired coal miner and a member of United Mine Workers of America.

He was a friend to all, a loving husband, a caring father and grandfather. James was a cherished fixture of the community and his loss will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Taylor Matney; one daughter, Shirley Matney Hackney; two grandchildren, Matthew Hackney and April Justice; two sons-in-law, Gary Looney and Ivan Hackney; and one sister, Glema Pearl Matney.

James is survived by one son, James Joey Matney (Corina), U.S. Army retired, Bamberg, Germany; three daughters, Wanda Looney of Lick Creek, Debbie Justice (Billy) of Pilot, Va., and Pamela Estep (Tracy) of New Tazewell, Tenn.; one brother, Raymond Matney (Janice) of Lick Creek; one sister, Alma Sullivan of Feds Creek; five grandchildren, Lisa Hackney Kendrick, Jason Hackney, Lindsay Estep, Brittany Justice and William Matney; and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Matthew R. Hackney.

The family would like to thank all caregivers and staff of Appalachian Hospice Care for their concern and support during this difficult time.

Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 6, from 6 to 10 p.m. in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with services at 7.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, in the chapel with Ray Sayers and Rick Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.

Deloris Noe

Deloris Irene Noe, 70, of Fort Gay, W.Va., died Friday July 31, 2015, at the home of her sister.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel.

Arrangements were under direction of R.E.Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Mary Phipps

Mary Mageline Coleman Phipps, 84, of Rockhouse, died Friday, July 31, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born in Elkhorn City, May 26, 1931, the daughter of the late Arthur Coleman and Mary Holland Coleman.

She was a homemaker and a member of Unity Freewill Baptist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Phipps; one daughter, Lesa Phipps; three brothers, Elmer Coleman, Kermit Coleman and Blake Coleman; and one sister, Ollie Harmon.

She is survived by two brothers, Clifford Coleman and Carl Coleman; four sisters, Rebie Adkins, Geraldine Phipps, Laverne Coleman and Lois Damron; and two grandchildren, Megan Childress (Christopher) and Matthew Smith.

Funeral services were held at noon Monday, Aug. 3, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Greg Coleman officiating. Burial followed in the Arthur and Mary Coleman Cemetery. Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
