James H. “Harry” Hicks, 86
James H. “Harry” Hicks, 86, of Bardstown and formerly of New Haven, died Sept. 2, 2006, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Mary Boone Hicks, six daughters, two sons, two brothers, one sister, 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at St. Catherine Catholic Church with burial in St. Catherine Church Cemetery.

Otis Howell, 91
Otis Howell, 91, of Hodgenville, passed away Oct. 11, 2006, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
He was an Elder Emeritus of Hodgenville Christian Church. He served as LaRue County Clerk for 32 years along with his wife Ontalee Howell.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ontalee Peyton Howell; and his parents, Fred and Lottie Skaggs Howell.
He is survived by a son, James Mason (JoAne) Howell of Hodgenville; two daughters, Phylis Peyton Howell of Hodgenville and Mary Otis (Charles) Jenkins of Hodgenville; a brother, Paul Howell of Lexington; three sisters, Daisy Bates of Louisiana, Ruby Moore of Dayton, Ohio and Nancy Burba of Hodgenville; eight grandchildren, Whitney Warren, Mason Howell, Christopher Howell, Bryan Fulkerson, Susan Wright, Gwen Kuenzli, Matthew Druen, Perri Kearns; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. at Billy Howell Funeral Chapel in Hodgenville with Carl Howell officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is Oct. 13, from 3-7 p.m. at the funeral home and will continue after 8 a.m. Oct. 14 until time of service.
Billy Howell Funeral Chapel in Hodgenville is in charge or arrangements.

James Kirby Peake, 43
James Kirby Peake, 43, of Howardstown, died Oct. 12, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 11, 1963, in Lexington to the late James E. Peake and Paula Faye Crepps Peake. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church at Howardstown, a farmer, a member of the Nelson County Farm Bureau where he served on the Board of Directors, and the Nelson County Conservation District Board of Directors.
He is survived by his wife Kate McCarthy Peake; a daughter, Caroline Peake of Murray; two sons, James Taylor “J.T.” Peake and Joseph Barnett “Joe” Peake, both of Howardstown; his mother, Paula Faye Crepps Peake of Hodgenville; four sisters, Mary Pauline (Scott) Gagne of Bardstown, Elizabeth Rippy of Austin, Texas, Ann (Glenn) Vittitow of New Haven, Martha Jane (Steve) Plouvier of Hodgenville; five brothers, John Nathanial Peake and Justin Michael Peake, both of Hodgenville, Jason Boone Peake of Tifton, Ga., Jesse Matthew Peake of Lexington and Jeffrey Wayne Peake of LaFayette, Ind.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church at Howardstown with Fr. Jim Mudd celebrant. Burial will be in St. Catherine Church Cemetery at New Haven.
Friends may call at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home at New Haven Oct. 13 from 5-9 p.m. and Oct. 14 from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and then proceed to the church.
The family request that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Ann School, Howardstown, KY 40051 or Bethlehem High School Football Boosters, 309 W. Stephen Foster Ave., Bardstown, KY 40004.

Loyd Raymond Pickerell, 81
Loyd Raymond Pickerell, 81, of Elizabethtown, died Oct. 9, 2006, at his residence.
A native of LaRue County, he retired from Phillip Morris Tobacco Co. and later, retired from farming in Hardin County. He was a World War II Coast Guard veteran and received the following ribbons and awards: American Area Campaign Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Area Campaign Ribbon with two bronze stars, Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Ribbon with two bronze stars and World War II Victory Ribbon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ona Brewer Pickerell; a sister, Gracie Underwood; and two brothers, William Pickerell and Ralph Pickerell.
He is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Candy and Barry Davis of Carmel, Ind., Janet and Lester Hack of Elizabethtown, Loraine and Fidencio “T” Trejo of Lexington; six sons and their wives, Garry and June Pickerell of Hodgenville, Daniel and Elizabeth “Charlie” Pickerell of Buffalo, Curtis and Sharon Pickerell of Elizabethtown, Tipton and Amy Pickerell of Vine Grove, Christopher and Betty Pickerell of Elizabethtown, Travis and Catrina Pickerell of Elizabethtown; a sister, Dorothy Howell of Hodgenville; two brothers, Edwin Pickerell of Hodgenville, Virgil Pickerell of Buffalo; 22 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Radcliff with the Rev. Dewey Keys officiating. Burial will be in North Hardin Memorial Gardens in Radcliff with military honors.
Visitiaton will be held Oct. 11 from 5-8 p.m. and Oct. 12 after 9 a.m. at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Central Kentucky, P.O. Box 1807, Louisville KY 40201-1807.

James Glenn Wilkes, 34
James Glenn Wilkes, 34, of Radcliff, died Oct. 6, 2006, from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
He is survived by his mother, Margie R. Wilkes; a brother; and a sister.
Funeral services will be held Oct. 12 at Coffey and Chism Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Oct. 11 from 5-8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Oct. 12.

Lillie Mae Purvis Carter, 93
Lillie Mae Purvis Carter, 93, of Louisville, formerly of LaRue County, died Oct. 1, 2006.
She was born April 24, 1913, in LaRue County. She was a member of Fourth Avenue Methodist Church, employed by the former Oscar Ewing Dairy for 40 years as an accountant and payroll clerk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Carter; her brother, James Milton Purvis; a sister, Virgie Lee Purvis; and her parents, Henry J. and Charlotte Purvis.
She is survived by three sisters, Catherine Hazle and Ailene Elliott, both of Louisville and Mary Price of Hodgenville; several nieces and nephews; and great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Oct. 3 at Highlands Family Owned Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mattie Lee Vittitow LaFollette, 77
Mattie Lee Vittitow LaFollette, 77, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Boston and New Haven, died Oct. 2, 2006.
She is survived by a son, Roger LaFollette.
Funeral services were held Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. at Nelsonville Church of Christ.
Visitation was held Oct. 4 at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven.

Edward Otto ‘Wolf’ Price, 89
Edward Otto “Wolf” Price, 89, of DeKalb County, Ill., formerly of LaRue County, died Oct. 6, 2006.
He is survived by two daughters; and a son.
Funeral services were held Oct. 9 at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven. Burial followed in Stiles Family Cemetery.

Mary Dorothy Medley Ray, 95
Mary Dorothy Medley Ray, 95, of Louisville, formerly of New Haven, passed away Sept. 30, 2006.
Her husband of 58 years, William “Cooper” Ray was co-owner and operator of the Old Big Store in New Haven. She was a homemaker, loving and gentle mother and grandmother. She was a devoted Christian inspiring her family and loved ones to grow in God’s love. She was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Louisville, formerly a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in New Haven.
She was born Sept. 14, 1911, in Holy Cross, the daughter of the late Richard “Dick” and Ida Lou Ballard Medley. She was the last of 13 whom have all gone on before her.
She is survived by a son, James F. “Larry” Ray of Fort Myers, Fla., five daughters, Elizabeth “Betty” Johnson and (Joe), Mary Ann Cahoe and (Bill), and Dolly J. Ray, all of Louisville, Billie Ray Alvey and (Charlie), June Carol Mahoney and (Jerry), all of New Haven; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mass of Christian burial was held Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Louisville with the Rev. David Lenz celebrating, the Rev. Rob Domhoff con celebrating and Deacon Charles Beckman.
Graveside services were held Oct. 3 at noon at St. Catherine Catholic Church Cemetery in New Haven.
William R. Rust Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Irene Hodges Shipp, 92
Irene Hodges Shipp, 92, of Magnolia, died Oct. 7, 2006, at North Hardin Health and Rehab Center in Radcliff.
She was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church; retired from the LaRue County Board of Education; and a former employee at Nationwide Uniforms in Hodgenville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Shipp; her parents, Jerome Smith and Mary Georgie Dixon Hodges; and a sister, Ruth Hodges Cruse.
She is survived by a daughter, Georgia Peace and her husband, Jackie of Magnolia; a son, Leonard R. Shipp and his wife, Doris of Louisville; a grandson, Terry Peace and his wife, Angela of Magnolia; a granddaughter, Robbie Murray and her husband, Steve of Brandenburg; and a great-granddaughter, Randie Murray.
Funeral services were held Oct. 9 at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery.
