Ethan James Thomas, 2 months, Middlesboro, died March 11, 2005, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.
He was born Dec. 21, 2004.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Cecil Lamb.
Survivors include his parents: James and Jessica Thomas, Middlesboro; one sister, Tiffany Thomas, MIddlesboro; grandparents: Debra Shelton, Harlan; and Archie and Sue Lewis, Harlan; stepgrandmother: Phebe Carmack, Harlan; and several aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
Visitation is Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Baker and the Rev. Albert Phillips officiating.
Burial will follow in the Tway Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Mount Pleasant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Tina Marie Truitt
Harlan
March 26, 2005
Tina Marie Truitt, 39, Harlan, died March 26, 2005, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
A native of Indianapolis, she was a homemaker and a member of the Harvest Worship Center.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dillard Gene Truitt; her father: Hobert W. Payne Jr.; her grandfather, Hobert Payne, Nashville; a special grandmother: Linne Payne, Lobelville; three brothers: Fred and John Payne, Nashville; and Joe Payne, Anchorage, Alaska; a special sister-in-law, Phyllis Freyer, Harlan; a special niece, Patricia Harris and husband, Robert, Harlan; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation is today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Anderson & Laws Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Roland 'Bo' Lee and the Rev. Eddie Greene officiating.
Private burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
Anderson & Laws Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lewis Abner Turner
formerly of Evarts
March 21, 2005
Lewis Abner Turner, 74, formerly of Evarts, died March 21, 2005, in Harlan.
A native of Harlan County, he had lived here most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict where he received a Bronze Star. A graduate of Boys Town in Nebraska and Eastern Kentucky University, he was a retired teacher for the Harlan County School District and believed in the Catholic faith.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Cora Farley Turner; his father, Abner L. Turner; three sisters: Doris Turner, Betty Turner and Inez Gregory; and five brothers: Samuel Edward Turner, James Howard Turner, Guy Farley Turner, John Alden Turner and George Turner.
Survivors include a sister, Faye Foster, Harlan; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation is today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Harlan Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Turner Cemetery with military rites to be performed by the Harlan Honor Guard.
Harlan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Fred Vanover
Harlan
March 9, 2005
Fred Vanover, 66, Harlan, died March 9, 2005, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
A native of Evarts, he was a member of the Yocum Creek Baptist Church.
He was also a 25-year member of the Yocum Masonic Lodge 897. He was a former employee for 10 years at Mack's Supermarket in Evarts. He retired after 25 years of service as an operating room attendant at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital. He had a lot of pride in his worth ethic, having never been late or missing a day of work in 35 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Vanover and Nancy Kirk Vanover; and a brother, Malvin Vanover.
Survivors include two brothers: Ernest Vanover and wife, Julia, Evarts; and Billy Joe Vanover and wife, Susie, Louisville; five sisters: Rosey Smith and husband, E.G., Lily; Liley Vanover, Harlan; Theney Webb, Middletown, Ohio; Agnes and Verlin Hoskins, Goodrich, Mich.; and Diana Woolum and husband, Clark, Columbia, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Vanover, Evarts; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Harlan Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. C.B. Rezek officiating.
Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery with Masonic rites observed at the graveside.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers, and men of the Yocum Creek Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Harlan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James C. Wilburn
Gallipolis, Ohio
March 26, 2005
James C. Wilburn (Dugger), 73, Gallipolis, Ohio, died March 26, 2005.
A native of Harlan, he was the son of the late David and Mossie Mitchell Wilburn and later a stepfather, Alfred Botts.
A resident of Gallipolis since 1970, he assisted in the construction of the James M. Gavin Power Plant as a welder. He was also employed by Southern Ohio Coal Company in Meigs County for 21 years. He remained active in the U.M.W.A. as an organizer until health issues arose.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Harlan; member of the local Democratic party in which he was active in campaigning for several years; a member of the U.M.W.A. with various locals throughout Ohio and Kentucky; and a past member of the archeologist society.
He was also an avid fisherman, conservationist, supporter of the United State Marine Corps, and a coin, stamp and artifact collector.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Leigh Williams Wilburn, Gallipolis, Ohio; his daughter: Sandy McCreedy and husband, Bill, Gallipolis; a stepson Dana Lyons, Paintsville; a half brother, Paul Botts Wynyard, Canada; three stepgrandchildren, Adams Lyons, Paintsville; and Andrea and Carrie Lyons, Paintsville; and one great grandchild, Audra Lyons.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 11 a.m. at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, 420 First Ave, Gallipolis, Ohio with pastor Larry Drummond officiating. Burial will follow in the Dixon Cemetery at Paintsville.

Archie Williams Sr.
Harlan
March 18, 2005
Archie Williams Sr., 86, died March 18, 2005, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.
A native of Georgia, he was employed by International Harvester Company as a miner for 40 years and believed in the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowery and Monnie Haslerie Williams.
Survivors include two children: Archie Williams Jr., Cleveland, Ohio; and Joe R. Williams, Benham; one cousin, Effie Mae Brooks, Georgia; and several other children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Saturday after 11 a.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at noon at the church with the Rev. Leslie Lee officiating.
Burial will follow in the Benham Cemetery.
Tri-City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Reed Woodard
Harlan
March 9, 2005
Reed Woodard, 76, Harlan, died March 9, 2005, at West Minister Health Care Center, Clarksville, Ind.
A native of Harlan, he was a retired bus and cab driver for over 30 years. He was a member of the DAV and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean war where he received three Bronze Stars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Pearl Woodard; and a brother, Charles Woodard.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Davenport, Beaver Dam; three children: James Sandy Woodard, Beaver Dam; James Donald Woodard and wife, Mary, Louisville; and Steve Woodard and wife, Diane, Dayton, Ohio; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Howard Farmer officiating.
Burial will follow in the Grays Knob Cemetery with military rites performed by the Harlan County Honor Guard.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Mount Pleasant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
