SMITH

The world was blessed with Annitta “Mishelle” Smith on October 18, 1983. The Lord called her home on April 28, 2013.

She was blessed with her daughter, Erika Mullins, whom is the pride and joy of her life. She is also survived by her mother, Denise Sellers, and father, Larry Smith of Morristown; brothers, Jessie Smith of Morristown, and Zachary Crocker of Anaheim, CA; sisters, Crystal Smith-Coats of Jefferson City, Nikki Smith of Strawberry Plains, and Ashley Crocker of Temecula, CA; nieces, Bailey Smith, Jade and Madison Coats, and nephew, Case Beverly; and a host of supportive family and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City with the eulogy to follow at 7:00 p.m. The family will hold a private family service at a later date.

HALL

Beulah Lee Barrett Hall, age 84, was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who passed from this earth peacefully at her home on April 28, 2013 after a long battle with heart and kidney problems. She went to be with her loving husband and two sons. She was a homemaker and believed in the Baptist faith.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Merl Rowlan Hall, 2 sons, Bennie Lee Hall and Bobby Ray Hall, her mother, Mary Porter Woodyard and father, Virgil Elbert Barrett, 3 siblings Ruth Alabama Gibson, Mary Napier, and Elbert Barrett.

She leaves behind 4 children: Merle Edward Hall and wife, Patty, of Wytheville, VA, James Lewis Hall, and wife, Belva, of Cawood, KY, Linda Darnell Jalowiec and husband, James, of Chicago, IL, Carolyn Hall of McMinnville, TN, 11 grandchildren: Kimi Lee Hall of Chicago, IL, Evan Hall and Erik Hall of Wytheville, VA, David Alan Hall and wife, Whitney Baze, of Springville, UT, James Anthony Hall and wife, Rebecca, of Louisville, KY, Kyle Montgomery Hall and wife, Ashley, of Ft. Drum, New York, Gillian Jalowiec Sliwinski and husband, Tom, of Chicago, IL, Takara Jalowiec of Chicago, IL, Sheila Gutierrez Pelham and Tony of McMinnville, TN, Emanuel “Bud” Gutierrez lll of McMinnville, TN, Nicole Gutierrez Mullins and Billy of McMinnville, TN, 13 great grandchildren: Emily and Joshua Sliwinski, Logan Z., Teagan A., Liam Z., McKayla Hall, Leathan Edward, Alyssa J.C. Hall, Nya, Julio, and Blake Hall, Gabriel Mullins, and Kayliegh Lynn Pelham.

Beulah was the oldest of 10 children, surviving siblings are: Doris Boggs, Bertha Bonham, Bill Barrett, Peggy Ray, Betty Hall, and Jack Barrett.

Visitation will be from 10AM to 12PM Friday, May 3, 2013 at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home with funeral immediately following at 12PM in the chapel of Mount Pleasant with Rev. Mikey Clem officiating. Burial will be at the Browning Cemetery, Cranks, KY. Pallbearers will be: Merle Evan Hall, James Anthony Hall, Kyle M. Hall, David Alan Hall, and Taylor Lemaster.

Mount Pleasant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

SARGENT

Ruby Sargent, 91 of Ages passed away Wednesday July 31, 2013 at her home.

She is the mother of Charles (Sandra) Sargent.

Arrangements are pending at Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

McMILLIAN

Grady Joe McMillian, 59 of Cawood, was born on Thursday, July 21, 1954 died Tuesday, July 30, 2013.

He was employed by Securix as a Security Guard and believed in the Holiness Faith.

He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde McMillian; a brother, Rodney McMillian; two sisters, Gail Owens and Kathy Williams and a great-nephew, Cody Skidmore.

He is survived by his mother, Henrietta Howard McMillian of Cawood; his daughters, Lisa and husband, Tommy Spurling and Elizabeth McMillian and husband, Jason all of Sevierville, TN., and Jessica McMillian of Grand Rapids, Michigan. His sisters, Vanessa and husband, Harold Coots of Evarts and Helen and husband, Richard Stewart of Cawood, His brothers, Greg and wife, Lola McMillian of Baxter; Robert and wife, Deb McMillian of Cawood, Randy and wife, Patty McMillian of Cawood, David and wife, Kane McMillian of Bellville, Michigan, Mark McMillian of Utah. Three granddaughters, Kayla, Alyssa and Eva Spurling all of Sevierville, Tennessee and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends that will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Mountain Assembly Church of God ~ Cawood, KY from 5PM until the funeral hour of Friday.

Funeral services will be Friday at 1PM at The Cawood Church of God Mountain Assembly with Rev. Richard Stewart officiating. As per his wishes cremation will follow the services.

In lieu of flowers and to assist the family in expenses please make donations to the funeral home.

SHEPHARD

Maggie Shephard of Harlan, born April 22, 1939 left this world on July 31, 2013 at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital. Maggie believed in the Baptist Faith.

Maggie is survived by her husband Jack Shephard, her son David Shephard, four daughters Theresa Witt-Sellers, Lisa Blevins, Kimberly Witt, and Rita Bell; 11 grandchildren; and multiple great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Hamp and Sally Witt and two great-grandsons John William Blevins and Matthew Alexander Carroll.

Graveside services will be held Friday, August 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the Resthaven Cemetery in Keith, KY with the Reverend Jonathan Grills officiating. David Vaughn, Macky Sullivan, Justin Walley, Charles Clem, Brad Peterson, Donnie Clem, Frank Shumate, and Will Blevins will serve as pallbearers.

SARGENT

Ruby Ethel Sargent, 91 of Ages passed away Wednesday July 31, 2013 at her home with her family by her side.

Ruby was born December 6, 1921 in Exeter, VA to the late Charlie and Ernie Mullins; she had resided in Ages for 75 years. She was a Child of the King and member of the Coxton Missionary Baptist Church and the Harlan Eastern Star.

She was not only a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, but a beautiful person and a friend to all. She had vast knowledge in canning, gardening, home making, quilting, which she readily shared with all. The old account was settled long ago.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband for whom she married on December 22, 1938, Garrett Garfield Sargent; brothers, Estil Mullins, Ruie Mullins, and Bill Mullins.

She is survived by her loving son, Charles (Sandra) Sargent of Meadow Estates; grandson, Dr. Charles Garrett (Tracy) Sargent; granddaughter, Gina Hoskins; great grandchildren, Lindsey, Jessica, and Nathan Sargent, and Alice Hoskins. She leaves many nieces and nephews, including 1 special niece, Brenda Hibbitts of London, KY.

Visitation will be Friday August 2, 2013 from 5 until 7:00 pm at Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

Eastern Star Rites will begin at 7:00 pm with funeral services following immediately after on Friday August 2, 2013 in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Adkisson, Rev. Jim Burkhart, Rev. Roger Jordan, and Bro. Doug Brock officiating. Music will be provided by Sister Pauline Brock and Sister, Lisa Adkisson.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 am Saturday August 3, 2013 at the Resthaven Cemetery, Keith, KY. Men of the Teetersville Baptist Church will serve as Pallbearers. Family & Friends are asked to meet at the Cemetery Chapel just prior to the service.

Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of the Bluegrass, Mountain Heritage, P.O. Box 190 Harlan, KY 40831 in memory of Mrs. Sargent.

CREECH

Gladys Creech, age 72, of Harlan passed away July 31, 2013 at the Harlan ARH following a long illness. She was born December 6, 1940 in Harlan County, KY to the late Rice and Lola Wynn Ward. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Red Bud Baptist Church.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James Creech, her children: James Creech, Jr., Ricky Creech, Janie Simpson, and Jackie Wilson Creech; and brother, Homer Ward.

Left to mourn her passing are her children: Debbie Smith and husband, Gary, of Grays Knob, KY; Danny Creech and wife, Tiffany, of Loyall, KY; Carmella Madden of Harlan, KY; Shawn Creech of Harlan, KY;14 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren brothers: Clarence Ward of Harlan, KY and Walter Ward of Harlan, KY. Sisters: Linda Faye Osborne of Georgia, Vickie Gross of Cumberland, KY, Ann Farmer of Evarts, KY, Phyllis Robinson of Disney, KY, Norma Jean Webb of Georgia, Brenda McVey of Coldiron, KY and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, August 2, 2013 from 5 to 8PM at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral will be Saturday August, 3, 2013 at 11AM in the chapel of Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Nickie Noe officiating. Burial will be at Evarts Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Mount Pleasant Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
