MADREY

Shirley Baldwin Madrey, 61, of Cranks, KY went home to be with the Lord on April 26, 2013. She was born April 10, 1952 in Appalachia, Virginia. Shirley was a Community Health Worker for the UK-Kentucky Home Place office in Harlan. She enjoyed helping others through her job, and she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, George W. Baldwin and Lenar Malone Baldwin; her husband, Millard Rowe; and several siblings, George Eugene, Owen Henry, Bessie Ellen Ball, Ruby, Ruth, Joyce, Roy, Blanche Louise, Troy Jr., Jimmy, and her twin sister, Pearley Thacker.

Survivors include her son, Richard Madrey; her grandson and joy of her life, Aaron Madrey; a sister, Nellie Rose; two brothers, Johnny Baldwin and wife Creda; and Archie Baldwin. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, step-children and dear friends.

The family of Shirley Baldwin Madrey will receive visitors from 2 – 3 pm Saturday, May 11, at Harlan Funeral Home.

Memorial Services will be held at 3 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Harlan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Caldwell

Patricia A. Caldwell, 58 of Putney died Monday Dec. 24, 2012.

Patty was born June 7, 1954 in West Virginia to the late Eldon & Julia Mason Fox. She currently served as the Assistant Principal at James A. Cawood Elementary School. She was a member of the Harlan Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Gary D. Caldwell; her daughter, Julia L. Robinson and husband Brent.

She leaves to mourn her passing a son, F. Scott (Beckie) Caldwell; grandsons, Alex & Bradley Caldwell all of Georgetown; 1 brother, Ronnie (Carol) Fox of Irvine, KY., Nephews, Dale Fox of Louisville and Troy Fox of Cumberland.

Joint Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Friday Dec. 28, 2012 at the Harlan Baptist Church with Dr. John Ditty and Rev. Brandon Pugh officiating.

Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery with Deacons of the Harlan Baptist Church will serve as Pallbearers.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 until 9:00 pm at the Harlan Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to Harlan Baptist Church, Kitchen Fund, PO Box 883 Harlan, KY 40831 or to the James A. Cawood Elementary School.

Alice Farmer

Alice Farmer, of Rio Vista, a Godly woman, devoted mother, wife and grandmother, on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 with her family by her side, went to her Heavenly home at Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin. She attended the Cornerstone Church at Baxter.

She is preceded in death by: her parents, James and Rebecca Woods Hale; her brothers, Ernest Hale, Willie Hale and James Hale; one sister Polly Ray and a grandchild, Evan Martin.

She is survived by: her husband, Frank Farmer; her children, Brenda and husband, Ralph Martin of Harlan, Kenny and wife, Gina Begley of Cawood and Allison and husband, Perry Collins of New Tazewell, TN.

Two step-sons, Gary and wife, Michelle Farmer of Gordon, KY and Greg and wife, Christy Farmer of Dayton, TN.

Five grandsons, Trenton Begley, Garret Begley, Ron Farmer, Michael Farmer and Corey Collins. Three granddaughters, Caroline Collins, Autumn Farmer and Heaven Farmer.

Four sisters, Wanda Williams of London, KY, Sue and husband, Rodney Turner of Sidney Ohio, Irene Cloud and Margaret Jones both of Black Mountain, KY. One brother, James Hale of Indiana. Two very special friends, Anna Slaven and Myra Pace. One very special niece, Diane Johnson and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 at Rich Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11AM in the Chapel of Rich Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Mills officiating.

Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery with Donnie Cloud, Rick Hale, Corey Collins, Perry Collins, Ralph Martin, Nathan Hale, Robert Baker and Jimmy Martin serving as pallbearers.

Rich Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ralph Osborne

Ralph Osborne, 70 of Cawood passed away Thursday May 31, 2012 at the Harlan ARH.

Ralph was born April 20, 1942 to the late Lee & Minerva Osborne. He was employed by the Harlan Co. Board of Education Maintenance Department for over 40 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Deloris Moore Osborne; 2 children, Judy (John) Swanson of Cawood, Ralph E. (Brenda) Osborne of Bledsoe; 1 granddaughter, Victoria Swanson (Kris) Cox of Harlan; 1 grandson, John Ben (Laura) Swanson of Cawood; 2 step grandsons, Matt & Josh Creech of Bledsoe; 2 step grandchildren; 1 brother, Tom (Wanda) Osborne of Rio Vista; 2 sisters, Novella Napier of Detroit, MI and Wilma Price of Harlan; he leaves several nieces, nephews, and 1 honorary granddaughter, Heather Stewart Meyers of Harlan.

Funeral services will be 2;00 pm Monday June 4, 2012 at the Cawood Church of God Mountain Assembly with Rev. Franklin Stewart officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fields Cemetery at Cawood with Grandsons and friends serving as Pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 5:00 pm Sunday June 3, 2012 at the Cawood Church of God Mountain Assembly.

Ludenia Jones

Ludenia Jones, nee McIlquham, 89, of Cumberland, KY passed away peacefully, May 6, 2012, at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton WI, after a coureagoeus battle with cancer. She is reunited in death with her husband, Amos Jones, sons: Robert and Charles, and daughter, Mary Lou Neumann.

She is survived by her son Arthur Allan (Bonnie), daughter-in-law Barbara Jones (Charles) and daughters Janaia Grube and Tyeta Jones, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Tammy Rice

Tammy Gail Rice, 52 of Harlan left her earthly body Thursday May 31, 2012 and moved to her Eternal Home to be with Jesus at her residence.

She was born July 3, 1959 in Harlan Co. to the late Lola Mae Rice Fee. In heaven she will join her mother, 3 grandchildren, and a treasured papaw, Eugene Rice and grandmother, Flaura Jane Daniels Rice. Tammy was a dedicated member of the Faith Holiness Church of Smith with Pastor Spencer Burkhart and attended Cawood Holiness Church with Pastor Jerry Collins.

Tammy leaves behind her family whom she loved very much, her beloved son, James Dale Keith of Harlan, and beloved daughter, Lola (Damon) Williams of Cranks. Very special grandson, Johnny Nathanael of Cranks and very special granddaughter, Lucy Gail of Cranks. Tammy will be forever remembered by her siblings, a brother, Michael Helton of Harlan; 4 sisters, Betty (Charles) Keith of Cumberland, Audrey (Carl Ray) Craig of Pansy, Vina (Wayne) Brock of Gulston, and Debbie (Terry) Blevins of Harlan. She leaves 3 nieces who loved her deeply as she did them, Bethany (Johnny) Cook of Knoxville, TN, Ashley Lively of Lexington, and Summer Lively of Pansy. One loving nephew, Shae (Amber) Keith of Cumberland; 1 great niece, Ella Rae Cook of Knoxville, TN. Her Uncle Jerry Rice and aunt Brenda Craig also survive her along with 2 special sister-in-laws, Regina Tussey and Cindy Keith. She also leaves behind 4 special friends, Kathy Moore, Shirley Trammell, Barb Saylor, and Beulah Burkhart. She leaves a host of brother and sisters in Christ who played a very important role in her life.

In earlier years, Tammy moved to Sierra Vista, AZ and spent time there raising her family. Opportunity then allowed her to relocate her family to Amarillo, TX where she opened her first business, Voyagers Recording Studio. Later Tammy made the decision alone to bring her family back home to Harlan Co. and it was here that she returned to the God of her Mother. She then obtained her CNA certificate. She spent her last day’s active in her second business, Tammy Rice Photography. She loved hiking and being outdoors with her children and grandchildren. She spent countless hours working with her hands creating beautiful flower gardens in “God’s Coloring Book”. It can be truthfully said; Tammy touched the lives of many people with her prayers and encouraging words. In an effort to reach people where they are, she started, “The Hand of Refuge” Ministry. Later taking inspiration form her Mother she devoted much of her time working in the Jail Ministry and with the legal system providing after care for troubled women.

Tammy loved attending Church services having a great desire for praying for the sick and was there when the doors opened where she worshiped the Lord in song, playing her tambourine, piano or guitar. It was her amazing faith in God that allowed her to overcome the challenges of life in spite of sickness. We are blessed to have known her and will miss her greatly; her testimony will speak for her now.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 until 9:00 pm at the Cornerstone Community Church, Baxter.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday June 2, 2012 at the church with Rev. Spencer Burkhart, Rev. Robert Smith, and Rev. Jerry Collins officiating. Special words will be by Bro. Jerry Brock.

Burial will follow in the Day-Jackson Cemetery at Cranks Creek. Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers.

Charles Foley

Charles Edward Foley, 65 of Harlan was born on Wednesday, June 5, 1946 and went to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. He was a retired Miner from US Steel and Arch of Kentucky. Charles attended Hall High School and RETS Electronic School. He served in the US Army in Zirndorf, Germany and was a former EMT. He was a former member of the Harlan Bass Anglers, and Member of the Harlan Honor Guard. Charles was also a proud member of the Calvary Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. He also held several positions at the church including Sunday School Teacher. Charles enjoyed numerous outdoor activities including gardening, hunting and fishing.

Charles is the son of, Clarence Foley and Mary Opal Helton Foley. He is preceded in death by his father, Clarence and his grandparents, Hugh and Amanda Foley and Don and Lillie Helton.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Opal Campbell of Harlan; his wife of 43 years, Julia Smith Foley; a son, Stephen and wife, Christie Foley; four precious grandchildren, Courtney, Andrew, Kaylee and Connor all of London, KY.

One brother, Gary and wife, Marie Foley of Elwood, Indiana; also two sisters, Mary Lou Anton of Waldorf, Maryland and Nancy and husband, Danny Helton of Berea, Kentucky. Two special aunts, Donna and husband, Doyle Smith of Three Point and ValDean and husband, Mel Jones of Van Buren, Arkansas and his special buddy, Sunny. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephew’s cousins, family and friends.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 2PM at Calvary Baptist Church at Loyall, KY with Rev. Billy Howell officiating.

Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery with Rev. C.B. Rezek officiating. Military Honors by The Harlan County Honor Guard.

Visitation will be after 12 noon until the funeral hour at the church.

Rich Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
