Steven Moore
1963 - 2007

MOREHEAD - Steven Burns Moore, age 43, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away September 16, 2007.

He was born November 19, 1963, in Zanesville, Ohio, to James Ray Moore, who preceded him in death on February 7, 1970, and Carolyn Annabella Tucker Moore.

A 1982 graduate of Rowan County Senior High School, Steve was a member of the 1981 Vikings football team which was undefeated during its regular season.

His love for football never waned and he recently served as a coach for the Youth Football League.

Steve enjoyed living in the forested area where his home was located in Pine Hills so he could be surrounded by the family he loved and the peaceful retreat that nature provided.

He was an avid University of Kentucky and NASCAR fan and was proud to be a Kentucky Colonel. He was employed by Kenney Construction.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Jana Maria McIntosh Moore and his beloved son, Brandon James Moore; his mother, Carolyn Annabella Tucker Moore of Morehead; one brother, Jimbo Moore of Morehead; two sisters, Liegh Ann Moore of Morehead, Kentucky, and Jenny Brown of Taylor Mill, Kentucky; three nieces, one nephew; and one great-niece.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jack Ellis, Pastor Mark Caldwell, and Pastor Jeff Fannin officiating.

Special music will be provided by Jeff Fannin and Tony Pence. Burial will follow in the Moore Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kelly Curtsinger, Jimmy Roberts, Bill Kelsey, Chuck Ferguson, Bob Razor, Chris Caldwell, Bill Brock, and Bill Poe. Honorary pallbearers will be Shelley Bennett, Kim Hamilton, Jim Wooley, Ray Graham, and Ronnie Moore.

Memorial donations may be sent to The Citizens Bank, Steven Moore Memorial Account, c/o Vicki Collins Blakeman, P. O.Box 1026, Morehead, KY 40351

Visitation is after 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Verna Bolenbaugh
1930-2007

OHIO – Verna Jewell Bolenbaugh, 76, of Aberdeen, Ohio, died Friday, May 11 at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville.

She was retired from Mansfield Memorial Home and was a very strong supporter of our troops.

She was born Nov. 23, 1930 at Logan County, W.Va., to the late Steven James and Maggie Brown Caudill. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Michael Ray Dillon, and her first husband, Rudell Dillon.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 20 years, Charles W. Bolenbaugh; one son, Ronald A. Dillon and wife Linda of Mt. Gilead, Ohio; three daughters, Sandra S. Dillon of Mansfield, Ohio, Chief Master Sgt. Wanda M. Dillon and retired Master Sgt. John Helms of Ft. Worth, Texas and Helen R. Dillon and husband SFC Michael Bennett of Fort Sill, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Stephen Douglas Caudill of Mansfield, Ohio; and three sisters, Ruby Terrell, Betty Gibson and Ida Dillon, all of Morehead.

Graveside services were Thursday, May 17 at Charter Oak Cemetery at Aberdeen, Ohio, with Father John P. Fisher officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family at Bolenbaughfamily@cahallfuneralhome.com.

Clara L. Tackett Moore
1928-2007

MOREHEAD - Clara L. Tackett Moore, age 78, of Rawcel Heights, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. She was born December 6, 1928, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Jack and Nannie Brown Tackett. Her husband, Jack Eugene Moore, preceded her in death on June 14, 2003.

Mrs. Moore is survived by two sons, William (Jill) Moore and Alan Moore, all of Morehead, Kentucky; four daughters, Sheila (Matthew) Holm of Morehead, Kentucky, Debra Moore of Modesto, California, Robin Moore of Richmond, Virginia, and Jackie Rae (Paul M.) Cooper of Morehead, Kentucky; one brother, Harold Dean (Joyce) Tackett of Morehead, Kentucky; 13 grandchildren including a special granddaughter, Sheila Rae Moore; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Moore was an apartment manager in Haines City, Florida, for nearly twenty years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Starcher officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Eric Golden, Brooks Elliott, Brent Cooper, Tony Cooper, Matthew Holm, and Charles Moertle. Honorary pallbearers will be Morehead-Rowan County EMS and Morehead Fire Department personnel.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Myrl Holbrook Stafford
1916-2007

MOREHEAD - Myrl Holbrook Stafford, age 90, of Open Fork Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 7, 2007, at her residence. She was born December 18, 1916, in Elliott County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Crecy Holbrook.

Myrl was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Stafford in 1989; two sons, Haskell Lee Stafford and Charles Stafford; three daughters, Della Jean Stafford, Dixie Pennington, and Patricia Lynn Stafford; and two sisters, Annabelle Jones and Opal Flannery.

She is survived by six daughters, Lucille Barber of South Shore, Kentucky, Dolly Burton of Grayson, Kentucky, Lola Hampton of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Shirley Howard and Helen Crum of Morehead, Kentucky, and Paula Stafford of Salt Lick, Kentucky, and a special friend, Janet Cassell.

Other survivors include two brothers, Haskell Holbrook and Gene Holbrook of Sandy Hook, Kentucky; one sister, Lola Whitt of Stark, Kentucky; 21 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Stafford was a homemaker and of the Apostolic Faith.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Tom Ginter officiating; burial will follow in the Boggs Cemetery in Elliott County. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Charles “Chock” Sturgill
1914-2007

MOREHEAD – Charles “Chock” Sturgill, 93, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2007 in the Life Care Center.

He was born on February 6, 1914 in Vale, Kentucky, a son of the late James and Anna Ethel Thomas Sturgill.

Mr. Sturgill was a retired truck driver. He was a member of the Primitive Church of God and enjoyed hunting and riding horses.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Shuck Sturgill, three brothers, James Phillip Sturgill, William Sturgill and Paul Sturgill and four sisters, Geneva Black, Helen Foster, Margaret Moore and an infant sister.

Survivors include his wife, Freda Johnson Sturgill of Morehead, four step-sons, Douglas Johnson of Soldier, James Johnson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jesse Johnson of Grayson and Gregory Johnson of Morehead, one step-daughter, Diana Jones of Ashland, four sisters, Frances Kidd, Sarah Esther Allen, Regina Mack and Ruth Sturgill all of Morehead, 12 step-grandchildren and eleven step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 6, 2007 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Elder Deward Hall and Rev. Lloyd Dean officiating. Burial was in the Lee Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Sheriff Jack Carter, Gregory Johnson, Jesse Johnson, Doug Johnson, Buck Kelly, David Allen and Shawn Allen.

Donna Kay Law Basford
1953-2007

MOREHEAD - Donna Kay Law Basford, age 53, of Open Fork Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 19, 2007 at her residence. She was born August 23, 1953, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and is the daughter of Kenneth Law of Clearfield, Kentucky, and the late Dorothy Gregory Law.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her life-long companion, Leonard Trent; two sons, Paul Kenneth (Sandra) Basford and and Gary Joe (Lovena) Basford, of Morehead, Kentucky; two daughters, Donita Jones of Ringos Mill, Kentucky, and Andrea (Robert) Stegall of Morehead, Kentucky; one brother, Larry (Debbie) Law of Morehead, Kentucky; one sister, Teresa (Jimmy) Riddle of Morehead, Kentucky; three step daughters, Tonya (Mike) Potter, Kimberly (Bernie) Beaman, and Lynetta Barnett of Morehead, Kentucky; 19 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Besides her mother, Donna was preceded in death by one son, Jackie Ray Basford, in 1972.

Mrs. Basford was a former nursing assistant at Saint Claire Regional Medical Center and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She attended Holly Fork Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2007 at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating; burial was in Brown Cemetery. Members of American Legion Post Number 126 served as pallbearers. Arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Dorothy Ellen Sparks Stevens Dunaway
1913-2007

MOREHEAD - Dorothy Ellen Sparks Stevens Dunaway, age 93, of Green Street, Morehead, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2007, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born April 13, 1913, on Indian Creek in Lewis County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Clifton Bruce Sparks and Callie Mae Scott Sparks. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Madison Stevens in 1940 and her second husband Archie Howard Dunaway in 1974; one son, James Dunaway in 1993; six sisters, Geneva Stamm, Margaret McCleese, Nora Hazelwood, Flora Henry, Flossie Cooper, Vivian Stidam; and three brothers, Walter, Wayne, and Tilman Sparks.

She is survived by four daughters, Ruby (Harrison) Kinder of Parker City, Indiana, Beulah (Butch) Gilbert of Petersville, Kentucky, Agnes McAdams of Vanceburg, Kentucky, Martha Dunaway of Morehead, Kentucky; two sons, Jack (Leona) Stevens of Houston, Texas, and Joe Dunaway of Flemingsburg, Kentucky; three sisters, Francis (Louis) Brown of Iva, South Carolina, Betty (Jim) Stacy of Morehead, Kentucky and Velma (Warren) Hyrne of Wakeman, Ohio; and two brothers, George Sparks of Bellefontaine, Ohio, and Rev. Johnnie (Joyce) Sparks of Indian Creek, Kentucky; 24 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

Mrs. Dunaway was a homemaker and for ten years worked in the GreenThumb Program in Rowan County. She was a member of the Church of God and had been a Christian since age 23.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jesse Hickerson officiating; burial will be in the Thomas Cemetery in Lewis County, Kentucky. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
