Paul Raymond Stevens
Age: 72
Visitation: Visitation will be in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel after 6 p.m. Saturday.
Funeral Service: Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2011 in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Tim Daniels and Alfred Berry officiating.
Interment: Entombment will follow in the York Mausoleum at Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville, Ky. Military Rites will be conducted by Johns Creek D.A.V. Chapter 166.

Paul Raymond Stevens, age 72, of Pikeville, passed away, Thursday, August 18, 2011 in the Pikeville Medical Center.

He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Full Gospel Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

He was born in Pikeville, Kentucky on December 31, 1938 the son of the late Luther and Mattie Jones Stevens.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Paul Craig Stevens on January 16, 2002 and by two brothers, Foster Stevens and Jr. Kinney and one sister, Justine Ray.

He is survived by his wife, Jewell Irick Stevens and one son, Douglas Eric Stevens and his wife, Rita of Hurricane Creek Road and one daughter, Laura Diane Clayborn and her husband, Charles of Dandridge, Tennessee.

One brother, Ronnie Stevens of Pikeville and three sisters, Ella May of New Matamoras, Ohio, Helen Goins of Taylorsville, Indiana and Myrtle May of Brownstown, Michigan.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Rebecca Peak, Shaunna Hurley (Benji), Nathan (Mandy) Peak, D.J. Stevens, Sally Johnson, Bein (Dorena) Clayborn, Erica (Dusty) Newsome and Dwayne Stiltner and three great-grandchildren, Sydney Peak, Alicia Jo Stevens and Seth Peak.

Ella Mae Arnett Evans
1931-2007

MOREHEAD - Ella Mae Arnett Evans, age 76, of U.S. 60 East, Salt Lick, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2007, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky. She was born March 27, 1931, in Magoffin County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Noble and Thelma Cordell Arnett. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Lou McGarey.

She is survived by her husband, James (Jimmy) Evans; one son, Brent Evans of Salt Lick, Kentucky; one daughter, Cindy Colbert of Largo, Florida, one sister, Brenda Blanton and husband Fred of Morehead, Kentucky; two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Ella Mae was a former secretary manager of the Selective Service Board in Morehead, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Salt Lick, and a member of the Baptist Church.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Guy McKenzie officiating. Burial was in the Jones Cemetery in Midland, Kentucky. Pallbearers were Brad Marlowe, Billy Moore, Kason Hogge, Bill Blanton, Gerald Jones, and Foy Middleton.

Arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Denzil O. Sweeney
1931-2007

HAMLET, IND. - Denzil O. Sweeney, 75, died Monday, March 19, 2007 at his son’s home in Walkerton, Indiana. He was born September 8, 1931, in Banjor, Kentucky to the late Ervin and Polly Ann (Johnson) Sweeney. On October 26, 1949, in Maysville, Kentucky he married Marion Briggs. She died June 20, 2000.

Mr. Sweeney loved to fish and hunt.

He is survived by four daughters: Venita Nowatzke of Hamlet, Viola Sullivan of Plymouth, Indiana, Virginia Delap of Argos, Indiana, and Valora Palmer of Culver, Indiana; one son, Jeff Sweeney of Walkerton, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one sister, Icylene Stigall of Shelby, Ohio.

Services were held Thursday, March 22, at Rannells Funeral Home, with Pastor Brian Baughman officiating. Burial was in the Fletcher Cemetery, Hamlet.

Arrangements were made by Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.

James M. Fraley
1939-2007

MOREHEAD - James M. Fraley, age 68, of Haldeman Heights, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born February 22, 1939, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Amos and Mary Slone Fraley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jeffery Fraley; one brother, Wilburn Fraley; and one sister, Mandy Sloan.

He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Lewis Fraley; two sons, Jimmy Fraley and Mark Fraley both of Morehead, Kentucky; one daughter, Loretta Barker of Morehead, Kentucky; five sisters, Mid Johnson of Valparaiso, Indiana, Faye Reeves of Carter County, Kentucky, Sallie Gibbs, Lillian DeHart, and Tina Lewis all of Morehead, Kentucky; five grandchildren; and a special friend, Clay Miller.

Mr. Fraley was an employee of Ken-Mor Stone for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Church of God.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p. m. Sunday, June 10, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ray Glover officiating; burial was in the Fraley Cemetery on Kegley Ridge.

Pallbearers were Benny Stamper, Danny Stamper, Terry Lewis, D. J. DeHart, Terry Barker, Scottie Eden, Jason Ramey and Matt Sexton.

Visitation was Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Irene Johnson Spence
Age: 88
Visitation: Visitation will be Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Service: Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church of Pikeville with Jeremy Tackett officiating.
Interment: Burial will follow in the Johnson Memorial Park at Pikeville, Ky.

Irene Johnson Spence, 88, of Pikeville, died, Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born in Pike County, Kentucky, January 4, 1923, the daughter of the late George F. and Vesta Roberts Johnson of Virgie.

She was a retired educator, having taught at Virgie Elementary and Pikeville Elementary schools.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Foster H. Spence; her daughter, Susan Spence Whitaker; three brothers, Charles Johnson, George F. Johnson, Jr. and Woodrow W. Johnson; one sister, Marie Anderson; and one niece, Emily Picklesimer Federowski.

She is survived by one son, Hoyt Spence of Cynthiana, Ky.; one grandson, Eric Whitaker of California; two brothers, Stanley Johnson and Hobart Clay Johnson, both of Virgie; one sister, Ruby J. Picklesimer of Lexington, Ky.; seven nieces, four nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Serving as Pallbearers will be, Hobart Clay Johnson, Benjamin Clay Johnson, Bobby Bell, Justin Bell, John Leppla, Hoyt Spence, Ted Whitaker and Eric Whitaker.

Ora Marshall Bradley
1945 - 2007

MOREHEAD – Ora Marshall Bradley, 62, of Amelia, Ohio formerly of Morehead passed away Monday, September 3, 2007 in the Mercy Hospital Anderson in Cincinnati, Ohio.

He was born on January 10, 1945 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a son of the late Thomas and Ethel McKee Bradley.

Mr. Bradley was a press operator for Formica Corporation for 42 years. He was of the Baptist Faith, a member of the Mason Masonic Lodge No. 678 and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, beekeeping and gardening.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, George Bradley, Marvin Bradley and Roscoe Bradley and three sisters, Parma Lee Campbell, Joyce Brunson and an infant sister, Tina Mae Bradley.

Survivors include one son, Ronnie Christopher Harvey of Withamsville, Ohio, two daughters, Jennifer Lynn Cropper and her husband, Tim of Amelia, Ohio and Elizabeth Kay Bales and her husband, Arthur of Morehead, six brothers, Jessie Bradley of Culver, Indiana, Sanford Bradley and Gail Bradley both of Morehead, Milford Bradley of Bethel, Ohio, Elmo Bradley of Vanceburg and Lodis Bradley of Hamersville, Ohio, one sister, Katherine Decker of Granger, Indiana and seven grandchildren, Christopher Bales, Amanda Bales, Clark Cropper, Natalie Cropper, Randy Harvey, Samantha Harvey and Gabrielle Hager.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, September 7, 2007 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. John Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Whisman Cemetery. Masonic services were conducted at the funeral home by the Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654 on Thursday evening.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Christopher Harvey, Clark Cropper, Christopher Bales, Allen Bradley, Doug Bradley and Mike Bradley.

Vaughnneita L. Cooper
1934-2007

Vaughnneita L. Cooper, 73, of Troy, Ohio, passed away Tuesday at the Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy.

She was born July 16, 1934 in West Liberty, Ohio, to the late Gilmore and Goldie Jane Williams Stanley.

Her husband, Ora Samuel Cooper, preceded her in death in 1991.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her close friend, Claude Gainey; three brothers, David Eldridge Stanley, Morton Gilmore Stanley and Buster Stanley; and one sister, Mary Catherine Cummins.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Cincinnati. She was also a punch press operator for 30 years in Cincinnati.

Services were set for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio, with Rev. Carol Bastin officiating.

There will also be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Purvis Cemetery in Morehead.

Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. at the Baird funeral home.

Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home in Morehead was in charge of local arrangements.
