Olivia Ruth Griggs
2009-2009

MOREHEAD – Olivia Ruth Griggs, one-day-old daughter of Tammie Griggs, Timberwood Trail, Morehead, Kentucky, was born Saturday, May 16, 2009, and passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

Other survivors include a brother, Hunter Cash Wallace; maternal grandparents, Danny Dale Griggs and Connie Louise Adkins Griggs; and maternal great grandparents, Wilburn Adkins and Maude Caudill Adkins, all of Morehead, Kentucky.

Graveside services and interment will be conducted 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at the Griggs Cemetery, Olympia, Kentucky, with the Rev. David Keeton officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Robert E. Caskey
1965-2009

Caskey, Robert E., 43 years old, passed away Monday, April 20, 2009. He was born on May 17, 1965 in Dayton, Ohio to Bessie F. Caskey and the late Richard E. Caskey. He is survived by his daughter Amanda Caskey (23) and his son Brandon Caskey (16), his mother Bessie F. Caskey, sisters Reba (Steve) Williams, Betty (Bob) Slife, nieces Rachel Williams, Callie Slife and nephew Chris Williams. He loved his family more than anything in this world and we will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace.

A memorial was held on Friday, April 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Northland, a Church Distributed, 530 Dog Track Road, Longwood, Florida.

Damon Johnson
1929-2009

MOREHEAD – Damon Johnson, 80, of Elliottville passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 at his home.

He was born on January 26, 1929 in Elliott County, Kentucky, a son of the late Emory and Bertha Furman Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a retired farmer and construction worker. He was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Laborers Local 1445 in Ashland and he enjoyed farming and yard work.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Clayton Johnson, Delmar Johnson, Tony Johnson and an infant brother and four sisters, Beulah Johnson, Jettie Johnson, Elsie Moore and an infant sister.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Johnson, whom he married on May 16, 1965, of Elliottville, one son, Steven Johnson and his wife, Kelli of Winchester, one daughter, Jennifer Johnson of Lexington, one sister-in-law, Madalene Johnson of Carrollton, Ohio, three grandchildren, Seth Johnson, Samuel Johnson and Sara Johnson and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 7, 2009 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. David Starcher officiating. Burial was in the Johnson Cemetery in Elliott County.

Pallbearers were Elbert Pennington, Gary Johnson, Elwood Johnson, Teddy Johnson, Tex Johnson, Emory Johnson and Michael Jurkiewicz.

Willis Hargis Johnson
1910-2009

MOREHEAD – Willis Hargis Johnson, age 98, of Brown Ridge, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away, Thursday, May 7, 2009, at the Elliott Nursing and Rehab Center in Sandy Hook, Kentucky.

He was born June 1, 1910, in Elliott County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Lee and Eliza Brown Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Howard Johnson on April 28, 1999; one daughter, Helen Mabry; two brothers and four sisters, Wilbur, Sidney, Nola, Eula, Lola and Beulah; and two sons-in-law, Bob Coogle and Joe Robertson.

Survivors include three daughters, Wilma Coogle of Louisville, Kentucky, Audrey Robertson of Lodi, Ohio, Deborah Crouch and husband Anthony of Louisville, Kentucky; two sons, Gene Johnson and wife Mary of Louisville, Kentucky and Dewayne Johnson of Sandy Hook, Kentucky; and one brother, Ben Johnson of Shelby, Ohio.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Rick Mabry, Darrell Mabry, Barry Rice, Scott Coogle, Dena Coogle Mullin, Billy Johnson, Danny Johnson, Matthew Crouch, and Julie Crouch Brock and14 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Johnson was formerly in the lumber business in Elliott County and was a farmer. He loved to keep up with current events through newspapers and was well known for his storytelling of long-ago events involving friends, business acquaintances, and family. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He was of the Christian faith.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gayle Price officiating; burial will follow in the Johnson Cemetery in Elliott County.

Visitation is Sunday, May 10, 2009, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Billy Joe Barber

Nicholasville - Billy Joe Barber, 68, husband of Edna Shearers Barber, of River Road, died May 12, 2009 after a battle with emphysema and lung cancer.

He was the owner of CyberSense Inc., was a longtime professor and scientist, having been affiliated with Bowman Gray School of Medicine (Winston Salem, NC), University of Mississippi Medical Center (Jackson, MS), Medical College of Wisconsin (Milwaukee, WI) and THRI at the University of Kentucky. He was also a Veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was born in Ashland, KY, son of the late Earcel Vernon Barber and Florence Nora Dawson Barber.

Additional survivors include a son, William Scott (Dena) Barber, two grandchildren, Kayla Barber and Kyle Barber, a brother, Darrel Ray Barber, a niece, Jackie Moore, a nephew, Larry Gene Barber, a sister-in-law, Marion Barber, special friends, Cameron Wallingford, Ruth and Jeff Babbitt, David and Cindy Zawieja.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Gene “Jack” Barber and a sister, Carol Kay Barber.

Services were held Friday, May 15 at Betts & West Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Sholar officiating. Burial in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Bearers were David Henry Bailey, Henry Bailey Jr., Jeff and Joel Babbitt, Jeff Crutcher and Cameron Wallingford. Contributions are suggested to the Midway College Scholarship fund. Online guestbook at www.BettsandWestfuneralhome.com.

Margaret Fodor Eldridge
1917-2009

MOREHEAD – Margaret Fodor Eldridge, 91, of Big Brushy Road, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009.

She was born on November 6, 1917 in Claysburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Andrew and Lillian Sabo Fodor.

Margaret was a retired Registrar for the Rowan County Health Department. She was of the Presbyterian Faith. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, vegetable and flower gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, seven sisters, her late husband, Jess Eldridge, who passed away on February 17, 1986, one son, Douglas Parrish Eldridge, and one daughter, Charlene Eldridge Wheeler.

Margaret was the beloved Mother and Grandmother of surviving family members; son, Gary Eldridge of Morehead, two daughters, Anna Eldridge Jackson and her husband, John of Monticello, Florida and Sharon Eldridge Clark and her husband, Jamie of Harrodsburg, three grandchildren, John D. Jackson of Quincy, Florida, Erica Helton and Jessica Harrison of Tallahassee, Florida and three great-grandchildren, Charlene Helton, Gabriel Jackson, and Lucas Jackson.

Additional surviving relatives include Agnes Williams of Morehead and her daughters, Debbie, Leslie, and Sandy; Cathy Richardson, Louise Miller, and Paige Pendleton of Mt. Sterling, Joe Ellas and Lil Hehr of Shawnee, Kansas.

A memorial service for Margaret Eldridge will be scheduled for a date to be announced.

Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home is caring for all arrangements.

Judy Louise Hoover Gregory
1945-2009

HILLSBORO – Judy Louise Hoover Gregory, age 64, of Skaggs Lane, Hillsboro, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at her residence.

She was born January 1, 1945, in Albany, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Red Cleek and Bercie Hoover.

Judy is survived by her husband of 32 years, Willie Gregory, whom she married July 18, 1976; two sons, Dewayne and Rodney Gregory both of Morehead, Kentucky; two daughters, Tina Stillwell of New Castle, Indiana, and Nugget Gregory of Hillsboro, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Jason Stephens, ShaLynn Trent, Justin Gregory, and Erica Gregory; and one great grandson, Mason Peters.

Also surviving are two sisters, Ruth Ann Burke and Alice Faye Crawford, both of New Castle, Indiana.

Judy was an employee of Park Hills Grocery for 17 years. She became a charter member of the Little Mary Church in 1981.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, at the Little Mary Church with Elder Lonnie Gregory, Elder Terry Bryant, and Brother Junior Ruggles officiating. Burial will follow in the Little Mary Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Darwin Gregory, Michael Spurlock, Don Cox, Elbert Cox, Rodney Gregory, and Dewayne Gregory.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky, and after 9 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Little Mary Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Little Mary Church, c/o Michael Spurlock, Treasurer, 6600 Flemingsburg Road, Morehead, KY 40351.
