Earlene Marie Knope Craven
1951-2008

MOREHEAD - Earlene Marie Knope Craven, age 56, of Ronameki Drive, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, formerly of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away May 28, 2008, at her residence.

She was born July 2, 1951, in Wyandotte, Michigan, and was the daughter of the late Earl and Doris Bartel Knope. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Knope, and her stepfather, Walter Krum.

Graveside services and burial will be 3 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, at the Trent Cemetery on Trent Ridge with the Rev. Herbie Lewis officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Clara Pierce Evans
1917-2008

SALT LICK - Clara Pierce Evans, 90, of 9101 East Highway 60, Salt Lick, passed away Monday, May 26 at Hilltop Lodge in Owingsville after an extended illness.

Mrs. Evans was born September 11, 1917 in Bath County, the daughter of the late Otto and Hannah Highley Pierce. She was retired from the United States Postal Service and was a member of the Salt Lick Christian Church. Her husband, Raymond Evans, preceded her in death in 1992.

Survivors include 1 daughter, Glenna Evans Campbell and her husband Marion D. of Morehead, 1 grandson, Michael P. Campbell and his wife Sheila also of Morehead and 1 sister, Gayle Miller of Louisville.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 29 at 1:00 PM at Salt Lick Christian Church with Calvin Lindell officiating. Interment followed at Machpelah Cemetery in Mt. Sterling. Visitation was from 6–8 p.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home in Salt Lick.

Gladys Parish Evans
1919-2008

OLIVE HILL - Mrs. Gladys Parish Evans, age 88, of Eden Hollow in Morehead, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, May 27, 2008 at her residence.

She was born October 25, 1919 in Carter County, Kentucky, to the late Ora and Ann Porter Parish.

Gladys was a homemaker, devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all to knew her. She was of the Church of God faith. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and her little dog ‘Joe’.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Delmas Gay Evans; one brother, Chalmer Parish; eight infant brothers and sisters; and a great grand-son, Deanie Gillispie.

She is survived by her loving husband of seventy years, Woodrow Evans; two sons and daughters-in law, Donnie Ray and Jessie Evans of Niles, Ohio, Jackie C. and Brenda Evans of Olive Hill, Kentucky; five daughters and sons-in-law, Doris Jean and Vernon Hamilton Dolene and Bud Knepp of Morehead, Kentucky, Delores and Ed Mayfield, Sue and Ron Bowman of Niles, Ohio, and Danette Evans and Johnnie of Morehead, Kentucky; two sisters, Loretta Holbrook, of Niles, Ohio, Larna Binion of Olive Hill, Kentucky; one special great niece, Lorey Binion Lowe; Twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, neighbors and friends, who will sadly mourn her passing.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the Bowen Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Olive Hill with Brother Clyde Holbrook and Brother Ray Glover officiating. Burial will follow in the Bowen Chapel Cemetery. .

Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Thursday, all day Friday and until noon Saturday at the Globe Funeral Chapel and one hour before the service Saturday at the church.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Mike and Gay Evans for their love and support through the difficult times.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Ora Lee Johnson
1934-2007

MOREHEAD – Ora Lee Johnson, 73, a native of Rowan County, passed away at his home in Morehead on May 2, 2007, after an extended illness.

Ora was born on March 31, 1934 at Cogswell, Kentucky. He was the son of the late John William and Eliza Jane Middleton Johnson.

Ora was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served aboard the U.S.S. Soley and U.S.S. Brownson, from 1955 to 1959. He was honorably discharged in April 1959. As a First Class Boiler Tender, he was awarded the Good Conduct medal as well as several other commendations. He continued his education while in the Navy, after returning home, he was employed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, as a licensed steam engineer, for 28 years retiring in 1988. He was of the Baptist Faith, enjoyed being with family and friends, woodworking, refinishing furniture, chair caning, working on clocks, bird watching, hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lola Mae Johnson, Josie Ethel Johnson and Flora Johnson and seven brothers, Ollie Stanton Johnson, Corbie Stone Johnson, Hayward Andrew Johnson, William Albert Johnson, James Lilburn Johnson, Linville Junior Johnson and Lonnie Roscoe Johnson.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Hester Link Johnson of Morehead, two daughters, Pamela Yvette (Jack) Owsley of Xenia, Ohio and Jennifer Lynn Johnson of Dayton, Ohio, one son, Geoffrey Duane Johnson of Fairborn, Ohio, nine grandchildren, Joshua Lee Owsley, Matthew Jacob Owsley, Jackie Lee Owsley III, Rebecca Ann Owsley, Rachel Lorene Owsley, Lindsay Brook (Matthew) Smith, Melissa Ann Johnson, Megan Elizabeth Johnson and Kathryn Ann Cook, one great-granddaughter, Macey Lynn Smith, one brother, John D. (Barbara) Johnson of Butler, Alabama, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and his beloved pets, Callie and Monte.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Saturday, May 31, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating. Visitation is after 5:00 P.M. Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to St. Claire Hospice or the American Lung Association.

Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home is caring for all arrangements.

Dale Edward Kelsey
1946-2008

MOREHEAD - Dale Edward Kelsey, age 61, of Mellwood Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2008, at the home of his daughter.

He was born September 1, 1946, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Willie Crayton and Zona Brown Kelsey.

Dale is survived by one daughter, Janetta Kelsey of Clearfield, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Kearston Ray’Lee and Adriana Dale; four brothers, Estill Earl Kelsey and his wife Judy, Willie Cecil Kelsey, Homer Harold Kelsey and Larry Dean Kelsey, all of Morehead, Kentucky; and five sisters, Anna Lucy Thomas of Somerset, Kentucky, Gail Jean Chapman and husband Marty of Morehead, Kentucky, Jo Ann Bazell and husband Gary, Cheryl Lynn McDaniel and husband Alden, and Debbie Sue Fannin and husband Carl, all of Kitts Hill, Ohio.

Dale served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a self-employed carpenter, repairman, and handyman.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mark Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Kelsey Family Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

Pallbearers will be Mark Chapman, Tim Chapman, David Olderham, Carl Fannin, Buck Stamper, and Mike Thornsberry.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, and anytime Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Allen Anthony Pierce, Sr.
1945-2008

MOREHEAD - Allen Anthony Pierce, Sr., age 63, of Clover Hill Road, Ewing, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, at the Fleming County Hospital in Flemingsburg.

He was born January 23, 1945, in Salina, Kansas, and is the son of Lorraine Lagerman Pierce of Salina, Kansas, and the late Melvin Jackson Pierce. Besides his mother, he is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Wanda K. McClurg Pierce; two sons, Allen Anthony Pierce, Jr., and Jamie Brian Pierce of Indianapolis, Indiana; one sister, Joyce Siewert of Romeo, Michigan; one brother, Russell Pierce and his wife Kathy of Salina, Kansas; Wanda’s two brothers, James W. McClurg Sr., and Gary Lee McClurg, both of Morehead, Kentucky; one sister-in-law, Kathy Pierce of Las Vegas, Nevada; one step granddaughter, Amanda; and one great grandson, Aayden.

In addition to his father, Allen was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Wayne Pierce, and one brother-in-law, Fred Siewert.

Allen was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam Era and a former construction worker. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed his manicured yard and Wanda’s weeds “flowers.” Allen was a simple man who loved to laugh and will be greatly missed by friends and neighbors.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Robert Milton Tackett
1922-2008

MOREHEAD - Robert Milton Tackett, age 85, of Collins Street, Coffeeville, Mississippi, formerly of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2008, at his residence.

He was born November 2, 1922, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Herb and Maude Caudill Tackett. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Clotene Johnson Tackett on May 27, 1986, and one son, Larry Robert Tackett on October 23, 2002.

Milton is survived by one son, Joseph Johnson Tackett and his wife Sherry of Shannon, Mississippi; one brother, Bud Tackett of Greenville, Ohio; two sisters, Helen Jessie of Lincoln Park, Michigan, and Lillian Aarand of Sterling Heights, Michigan; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Milton served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a former Rowan County Deputy Sheriff, a member of Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654, and a retired employee of Tennessee Gas in Grenada, Mississippi. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and buying and selling automobiles.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gayle Price officiating.

Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Members of Morehead American Legion Post No. 126 will serve as pallbearers and conduct full military honors at the graveside.

Visitation is after 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
