Larry Virgil Dewitt
1956-2008

MOREHEAD - Larry Virgil Dewitt, age 52, of Owingsville, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

Born April 19, 1956, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he is the son of Virgil and Darlene Lewis Dewitt of Morehead, Kentucky. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, David Dewitt and his wife Cindy of New Carlisle, Ohio; three nieces and nephews, Angie Dillon and husband Bobby, Jessica Dewitt, and Bobby and Ashley Taylor; and one great nephew, Joseph Levi Dillon.

Larry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clell and Laura Dewitt and Arthur and Madge Lewis.

He was an employee of Diamond Forest Resources and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Charles Moore and the Rev. Herbie Lewis officiating. Burial followed in Ditney Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bobby Kegley, Troy Flener, John Moore, Dennis Davis, Steve Davis, Chuck Johnson, Chuck Cassara, and Casey Whitt.

Visitation was Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Scott Wayne Frye, Sr.
1956-2008

MOREHEAD - Scott Wayne Frye, Sr., age 52, of Hawk Haven Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2008, at his residence.

Born March 21, 1956, in Lexington, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Oscar Luther and Betty Jane Farris Frye.

Scott is survived by his wife, Loretta Yarber Frye; four children, Joshua Frye and Lucy Frye, both at home, Scott Wayne Frye, Jr., of Western Kentucky; and Michelle Miskell of Tennessee; and one granddaughter, Zara Frye.

Other survivors include one brother, Oscar Frye, III, of Lexington, Kentucky, and two sisters, Kathy Frye of Lexington, Kentucky, and Constance Catron of Cynthiana, Kentucky.

Scott enjoyed farming, tinkering in his tool shed, and collecting model trains and oil lamps.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Medie Fultz Kidd
1927-2008

MOREHEAD – Medie Fultz Kidd, 81, of Bramblewood Lane, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008 at her home after an illness of several months.

She was born on March 28, 1927 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a daughter of Mrs. Nellie Barricks Fultz and the late Dewey Fultz.

Mrs. Kidd was retired from the cafeteria at Morehead State University and had also worked at the Morehead Dairy Queen. She was a member of the Upper Dry Creek Church of God and enjoyed visiting other denominations. An avid quilter, she won first place in a quilt competition, enjoyed gardening, loved flowers and was a devoted mother, grandmother and daughter.

In addition to her father, Dewey Fultz, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson Kidd, one son, Ronnie Dale Kidd, four brothers, Sam Chandler Fultz, Jackie Fultz, Plummer Fultz and Dewey "Bugs” Fultz, one sister, Alice Lee Clark and a granddaughter, Miranda Lee Collins.

Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Nellie Barricks Fultz of Morehead, one son, Earnest Leray Kidd of Morehead, three daughters, Deborah Kay (Larry) Littleton, Mary Patricia "Patty" (Wendell) Collins and Anna Lee Nell Littleton all of Morehead, five brothers, Vernon Ray Fultz of Harrodsburg, John Franklin Fultz, Paul Edward Fultz and Dewayne Fultz all of Morehead and Jimmy Fultz of Tacoma, Washington, six sisters, Nervil Brendt and Gladys Adkins both of Indianapolis, Indiana, May Fultz, Sue Dienes, Geneva Brown and Vera Clark all of Morehead, five grandchildren, Derrick Littleton, Brian Littleton, Kimberly Collins, Jason Littleton and Racheal Collins, one great-granddaughter, Taitum Littleton, special niece whom she reared, Carolyn Jean Shields of Indianapolis and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 18, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Herbert D. Lewis and Elder Cephas Littleton officiating. Burial will follow in the Sardis Cemetery. Visitation is after 6:00 P.M. Monday and anytime Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be Wendell Collins, Robbie Graves, Brian Littleton, Jason Littleton, Derrick Littleton and Cephas Littleton, Jr. and honorary pallbearers will be Matt Campagna, Michael Rooks, Larry Littleton and Frank Collins.

Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home is caring for all arrangements.

Jasper Grant Miller

Jasper Grant Miller, infant son of Kevin and Betsy Bailey Miller of Morehead, was stillborn on Friday, June 6, 2008, at St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington. Surviving, in addition to his parents, include his paternal grandfather, Lewis Miller of Salyersville; his maternal grandparents, Estill and Janice Henderson Bailey of Olive Hill; aunts and uncles: Tim and Karen Bailey of Morehead, Lonnie and Racine Miller, Michael and Jodie Miller, Danny Miller, Laura Whitaker, all of Salyersville, and Ronda Butcher of Van Lear; and several cousins.

Jasper was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mataline Holbrook Miller of Salyersville.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bishop Cemetery on Dry Fork Road in Olive Hill by Brother Larry Harris.

Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill was in charge of arrangements.

M. Elizabeth O’Dell
1919-2008

MOREHEAD - M. Elizabeth O’Dell, 89, a resident of Morehead, KY, died Friday, June 13, 2008, after a long illness. Before moving to Morehead in 2004 to be close to her family, she had lived in Palm City, FL, for nearly twenty years, having moved there from Lexington, KY, and had previously resided in Charleston, WV and Louisville, KY. She was a graduate of Stephens College, Columbia, MO, and served at the Station Hospital, Fort Knox, KY, during WW II.

Survivors include a son, Gary O’Dell, of Morehead, KY; a daughter, Patricia Lowdermilk, Anchorage, AK; three grandsons, five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Burial in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, KY. Arrangements by Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Kenneth Earl Catron Sr.

MOREHEAD - Kenneth Earl Catron, Sr., age 82, of Franklin, KY, formerly of Elliott County, KY, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at his residence.

He was the son of the late John Daniel and Lula Jane Crumb Catron. Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Rebecca Jane Catron Murray, and three brothers, Robert Catron, Orville Leon Catron, and Cleo Scotland Catron.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Dolores Catron; three sons, Kenneth Earl Catron, Jr. and wife Margaret Ann of Science Hill, KY, Jeffery Dale Catron of Aberdeen, SD, and Will Daniel Catron, Sr., of Franklin, KY; three brothers, Roy Catron of Massillon, OH, Virgil Vernon Catron of Berea, KY, and Clell Dexter Catron of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mr. Catron was a member of the Stevenson United Methodist Church, Franklin Simpson Gideons, and Simpson Benevolent Lodge #177. He was also a Royal Arch Mason. A U. S. Army World War II veteran of the 4th Infantry, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a graduate of Berea College and was in management with Southern States Co-op.

A graveside service was held 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, at the Catron Cemetery in Elliott County, KY, with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. Full military rites were conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

Local arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Christine Pennington Kidd
1945-2008

MOREHEAD – Christine Pennington Kidd, age 62, of Harold, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008, at her residence.

She was born December 24, 1945, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and is the daughter of Eula Sloan Osborne Conley of Morehead, Kentucky, and the late John Campbell Osborne.

In addition to her mother, Christine is survived by four daughters, Christa Robinson and husband Timothy of Morehead, Kentucky, Sherry Ray and husband Ryan of Pikeville, Kentucky, Sharon Hall and husband Andrew of Clintwood, Virginia, and Anita Hall of Harold, Kentucky; eight granddaughters, Heather, Sara, Racheal, Emily, Rebecca, Madison, Morgan, and McKenzie; and five grandsons, Cory, Andy, Nicky, Nathaniel, and Caleb.

Also surviving are seven sisters, Pauline Bowling of Hickman, Kentucky, Verleen Adkins of Morehead, Kentucky, Kathleen Purnell of Morehead, Kentucky, Thelma Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, Barbara Estep of Dayton, Ohio, Irene Fultz of Morehead, Kentucky, and Marcella Hamm of Elliottville, Kentucky; two brothers, David Osborne of Morehead, Kentucky, and Ricky Osborne of Olive Hill, Kentucky.

Christine’s life focused on family and friends. A devoted daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother, she enjoyed being home, listening to gospel music, and spending time with family. She loved her children and especially loved spoiling her grandchildren. A forgiving and unselfish person, Christine relied on Jesus throughout her life.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Larry Hamm officiating. Burial was in the Fraley-Osborne Cemetery on Kegley Ridge, Morehead.

Pallbearers were David Osborne, Ricky Osborne, Jack Smith, Ernest Purnell, Woody Estep, Troy Adkins, Eric Winkleman, Richard Winkleman, and Joey Osborne.

Visitation for Christine Pennington Kidd was after 6 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008, and all day Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Jewell Dean Blankenbeckler Skaggs
1938-2008

MOREHEAD – Jewell Dean Blankenbeckler Skaggs, age 69, of Sandy Hook, KY, peacefully entered the loving arms of her Savior on July 19, 2008, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY, surrounded by her caring family and friends after a long illness.

Born December 2, 1938, at Ault, KY, in Elliott County, she is the daughter of Lovell LeMaster Blankenbeckler of Sandy Hook, KY, and the late Charlie Blankenbeckler. Besides her father, she was preceded in death by two sons, Kendell Skaggs in 1973, and Randell Skaggs in 1978.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles Elliott Skaggs; four sons, Donald Skaggs and wife Paula and Ronald “Jay” Skaggs and wife Patti, all of Morehead, KY, and Charles “Darren” Skaggs and wife Vickie and Wendell Skaggs and wife Nikki, all of Elliott County, KY; one sister, Joyce Skaggs and husband Lonnie of Sandy Hook, KY; 21 grandchildren, including Randall Jay whom she raised; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Jewell loved spending time with her family, especially holiday get-togethers, and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and quilting. She was of the Baptist faith, and during the 30 years she lived in Mansfield, Ohio, attended the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church regularly.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Copley and the Rev. Austin Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Skaggs Cemetery in Elliott County.

Pallbearers will be Chris Skaggs, Kyle Skaggs, Tyler Skaggs, Jesse Skaggs, Michael Skaggs, Travis Townsend. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Gilliam, David Garris, Brandon Riggsby, and Zachary Carter.

Visitation is after 7 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, and anytime Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
