Willie and Laykin Elkins
Willie Aaron Elkins and Laykin LaShae Elkins, infant twins of Willie and Tiffany Coleman Elkins, of Ashcamp Road, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at Pikeville Medical Center.
They were preceded in death by their great-grandparents, Willie Elkins Sr. and Delphia Elkins; and great-grandpa, Russel Coleman.
They are survived by maternal grandparents, Twilia Coleman and James Coleman; paternal grandparents, Connie Elkins Stanley and Ira Lee Elkins; step-paternal grandmother Patricia Elkins; and one half-sister, Leeanna Faith Elkins.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 7, at the Coleman Family Cemetery.
Arrangements were under direction of Lucas and Hall Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Arvil Fields
Arvil Fields, 84, of Zebulon Highway, Pikeville, died Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Pikeville Medical Center.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Community Funeral Home.

Franklin Keel
Franklin Keel, 79, of West Jefferson, died Thursday, April 6, 2006, in Madison County Hospital, London.
He was born in Pikeville, July 19, 1926, a son of the late Richard and Elsie Keel.
He was a truck driver, having worked for Suburban Motor Freight of Columbus, attended the West Jefferson Freewill Baptist Church, was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, a member of the West Jefferson American Legion and the National Rifle Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris Martin Keel; one daughter, Cheryl Ann; and one son, Tommy.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Olds of Gates, Tenn., and Linda “Lou” Williams of Danville, Va.; one son, George Keel of West Jefferson; four sisters, Edith Newsom, Maxine Houck, Dolly Elswick and Olive Rohr; one brother, Richard Keel; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 10, in the Rader-McDonald Funeral Home, West Jefferson with Rev. Fred Kinne officiating. Burial will follow in the Somerford Cemetery.
Visitation Sunday, 1-4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under direction of Rader-McDonald Funeral Home.

Larry May
Larry Douglas May, 46, of Pikeville, died Saturday, March 25, 2006.
He was born in Pike County, June 22, 1959, a son of Betty Adkins May and the late Ola Lee May Sr.
He attended Pikeville Freewill Baptist Church.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Peggy George May; two sons, Larry Ryan May and Matt Dillon May, both of Booker Fork of Caney Highway; one brother, Ola Lee May Jr. of Pikeville; and three sisters, Judy May Layne of Blaine, Janie May Varney of Raccoon and Marsha May Perry of Memphis, Tenn.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, in the J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Morgan Chapman, Don Lee and Jim Patton officiating. Burial followed in the R.H. Ratliff Cemetery, Shelbiana. Arrangements were under direction of J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Franklin Muncy
Franklin Muncy, 71, of Pikeville, died Thursday, April 6, 2006, at his residence.
He was born in Pike County, Jan. 3, 1935, a son of the late Charlie and Hattie Farris Muncy.
He was a member of the Fords Branch Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Louie Muncy, Robert Muncy and Ernest Muncy; one sister Drucilla Stanley.
He is survived by two brothers, Don Muncy of Inez, and Leroy Muncy of Michigan; four sisters, Jean Dillender of Michigan, Edith Phillips of Pikeville, Ethel Maynard and Mae Ray, both of Brushy Road.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 9, in the Piso Freewill Baptist Church with Fred Klatka and Bill Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in the Maynard and Runyon Cemetery.
Arrangements are under direction of Community Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Frank Hammond Jr.
Frank Hammond Jr., 72, of Williamson, W.Va., died Sunday, April 23, 2006, at his home.
He was born at Red Jacket, W.Va., June 23, 1933, a son of the late Frank and Bertha Williams Hammond.
He was a coal truck driver, the owner of Hammond's Produce, a musician, Kentucky Colonel and member of the Williamson Area Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by one son, Frank Hammond Jr.; two daughters, Donna Jean Colon and Joann Hammond; five brothers, Glen Hammond, Wallace Hammond, Tom Boots Hammond, Fred Hammond and John Hammond; and one sister, Nell Baisden.
He is survived by his wife, June Adkins Hammond; one son, William Thomas Hammond of Borderland, W.Va.; two daughters, Mary Alice Conner of Murray and Patricia Ann Berry of Williamson; one brother, Dan Hammond of Delbarton, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, in the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Cochran and Jessie Spaulding officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, W.Va.. Arrangements are under direction of Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Martha Myers
Martha Magdalene Justice Myers, 82, of Louisville, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at Baptist Hospital, North East Hospice Unit, LaGrange.
She was born at Pond Creek, May 26, 1923, a daughter of the late James Harvey and Patty Jane (Justice) Justice.
She was a member of the Church of Christ and worked as a sales and accounts receivable specialist in the wholesale electric company before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis C. Myers; one sister, Garnet Freeman; one half-brother, Clinard Rowe; one half-sister, Sadie Blackburn and one grandson, Mike Ramey.
She is survived by three daughters, Clara Campbell of Cincinnati, Rosa Lee Fields of Louisville, Lana Boor of Orion, Mich.; one stepson, Harold Ramey (Patty) of Florida; two brothers, James Justice and David C. Justice, both of Mouthcard; one sister, Ruby Church of Motley Fork; seven grandchildren, Michael Turner, Deborah Kuhn, Steve Turner, David Fields, Lisa Turner, Jennifer Benroth, Chad Ramey; two great-grandchildren, Rheannon Turner and Amber Ramey; seven nieces and four nephews.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, April 27, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Frank Crum officiating. Entombment will follow in the J.U. Thacker Memorial Mausoleum, Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements are under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Andrew Newsom
Andrew Newsom, 78, of Penny Road, Harrison Newsom Branch, died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at his home.
He was born in Pike County, April 3, 1928, a son of the late Andrew and Tilda Newsom Newsom.
He was a retired miner of Dix Fork Coal, and of the Old Regular Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Newsom Newsom; one son, Freddie Newsom; five brothers, Wilson Newsom, Russell Newsom, Jessie Newsom, Clement Newsome, William Harrison Newsom; and eight sisters, Mella Damron, Stella Hamilton, Mary Hamilton, Isabella Newsom, Anzie Damron, Rena Blair, Ella Newsom, and Nancedia Bryant.
He is survived by seven daughters, Loretta (Mrs. Doug) Martin and Lucille (Mrs. Ralph) Burke, both of Virgie, Roberta (Mrs. Bobby) Blackburn and Karen (Mrs. Kimbrel) Hall, both of Penny Road, Rosie Katherine Newsome of Atokia, Tenn., Judy (Mrs. David) Keene, of Shelbiana, Kelly (Mrs. Freddie) Newsom of Bedford, Ind.; five brothers, Robert Newsom of Toler, Troy Newsom of Garden Creek, Va., Trussell Newsom and Noah Newsom, both of Vansant, Va., Feddie Newsome of Caney; two sisters, Blanche “Ruthie” Ray of Caney and Victoria Hamilton of Stone Coal; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 23, in the Lucas and Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Dewey Roberts, Teddy Honaker, Don Blake Little, Bradley Biliter, James Hamilton, Monroe Jones and others officiating. Burial followed in the Newsom Branch Cemetery. Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Hall Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Pallbearers were Doug Martin, Bobby Blackburn, David Keene, Travis Keene, Ralph Burke, Kimbrel Hall, Andy Blackburn, Wesley Blackburn, David A. Keene, Timmy Hall, Jason Potter, Alex Newsome, and Heath Newsom.

Taylor Slone
Taylor Slone, 60, of Phyllis, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2006, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.
He was born Aug. 29, 1945.
He was a United Mine Worker for 27 years and became disabled in 1991. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a special deputy sheriff for the Pike County Sheriff's Department.
He was the son of the late Jeff Slone and Celia Varney Slone. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Slone, and three sisters, Emma Justice, Isabelle Justice, Darcus Newsome; and two brothers, Gilmore Slone and William Johnny Slone.
He is survived by his wife of 39 and one-half years, Brenda Slone; one son, William Trent Slone (Virginia) of Phyllis; one daughter, Tonya (Dewayne) Abshire of Phyllis; one sister, Jennie (Orville) Varney of Phyllis; two grandchildren, Chasity and Chloe Smith; one special sister, Helen Varney; two special brothers, Bobby Roy Justice and James Thacker; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the Millers Creek Church of Christ, Phyllis, with Jim Abshire, Dean Lyons and Shane Lockhart officiating. Burial will follow in the Varney Cemetery, Phyllis. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Newsome, Paul Newsome, Charles Thacker, Daris Casey, Larry Chapman, Bobby Roy Justice, James Thacker, Greg Justice, and Jeff Varney officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were Chad Worrix, Bill Justice, Roy Justice, Bennett Justice, Danny (Charlie) Wellman, Orville Varney, Kelsey Friend Jr., Charles E. Lowe Jr., Rick Bartley, Leo Murphy, Rodney Scott, Steve Combs, Fuzzy Keesee, Eddie Coleman, and Dr. Daniel Stamper.
Visitation was held Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the church.
