Barbara Sue Varney 68, of Canada, KY, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital Emergency Room.
She was born December 13, 1943 at Williamson, W.V. to the
late Landon and Pricey Jane May Stanley.
She was retired from the Pike County Board of Education and
a member of the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband; Emery Varney of Canada,
Ky.; one son, Emery Keith Varney of Canada, Ky.; four daughters,
Lisa Marie (George) Kidd of Harold, Ky., Pamela Sue (Brian) Harlow of Williamson, W.V.,
Rhonda Lynn Varney of Huddy, Ky., and Ashley Jane Varney of Canada, Ky.; one sister,
Drema (Michael) Elswick of Canada, Ky.; eight grandchildren; Emery Keith Varney Jr., Allison
Jane Williamson, Melinda Sue Adams, Meggan Michelle Varney, James Emery Hackney,
Trista Nicole Williamson, Broderick Matthew Hackney and Lindsay Jade Harlow; sixteen great
grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Bluesprings
Freewill Baptist Church with Larry Hubbard and Others officiating. Burial will follow at
Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery at Ransom, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Thursday and Friday at Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church
with special services both nights at 7 PM.

Mary Magdalene Glossip, 82 of Williamson, WV passed away Wednesday, August 1,
2012 at the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center, Phelps, Ky.
She was born December 25, 1929 in Pike County, Ky. the daughter of the late Charlie
and Ella Marie Duncan Robinson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George
Glossip; brother, Wilburn Robinson and sister, Georgia Ann Robinson.
Mary was a homemaker, a former waitress at the Mountaineer Hotel in Williamson and a member of the Toler Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Gail Smith of Williamson, WV; brothers, Robbie
Robertson of TN and Arland Robinson of CA; sisters, Mae Dube of TN, Joyce Eddy and Rita
Stewart both of Columbus, Ohio; granddaughter, Mary Gail King of Williamson, WV and great
granddaughter, Valerie Lynn Tomlin of VA.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 3, 2012 at 12 Noon in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Johnny Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View
Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with Timmy George, Timmy Keith and other family and friends
serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Thursday at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel.

Raymond "Eugene" Dotson, 68, of Ransom, Kentucky, passed away Friday, August 3,
2012 surrounded by family and friends at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.
Raymond was born July 9, 1944, in Pike County, Kentucky a son of the late Dennis Dotson and
Mary Magdaline (Hatfield) Dotson of Ransom, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by two
brothers, Larry Gilford and Charles "Brother" Dotson and nephew, Butchie McCoy.
Eugene was hardworking, strong and loving to all. He loved his family, neighbors, and
friends. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was a coal miner for 28 years of his life. He always had
a smile for everyone he met and loved making others smile too. He always showed his strength,
love and devotion to his family.
In addition to his mother he is survived by: his wife, Shirley (West) Dotson of Ransom,
Kentucky; one son, Chad (Jeannie) Dotson of Ransom, Kentucky; one daughter, Eugenia (Brian) Whitt of Ransom, Kentucky; granddaughters, Briona and Chasity Whitt; three brothers,
Burl (Glenna) Dotson of Ransom, Kentucky, Dwight (Kelli) Dotson of Ransom, Kentucky and
Wendell (Annie) Dotson of Sullivan County, Tn.; four sisters, Helen Dotson of Ransom, Kentucky, Gail (Eugene) Gibbs of Ransom, Kentucky, Lola McCoy of Ransom, Kentucky and Janet Flo (Larry) Scott of Hardy, Kentucky; a host of nieces, nephews and an abundance of
friends.
Funeral Services will be held 1 P.M. Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the Rogers Funeral
Home of Belfry, Ky. with Raymond Stanley, Paul Varney, Shawn and Jeff Dotson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Willie Jake Hager Cemetery, Ransom, Kentucky with Dwayne Dotson,
Van Gibbs, Dennis Gibbs, Joey Dotson, Andy Bowling, Dale Whitt and J.B. Dotson serving a pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 P.M. Saturday Evening at Rogers Funeral Home.

Gary Christopher Moon, 41, of Huddy, Kentucky passed away
Saturday, August 4, 2012 at his residence. He was born August 22,
1970 at South Williamson, Kentucky a son of Gary and Sheila
(Matney) Moon of Huddy, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Alfred
and Sally Moon and maternal grandfather, Buddy H. Matney.
Chris was a retired carman for the N&S Railroad and was of
the Freewill Baptist Faith of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one son, Jacob
Cole Moon of Huddy, Kentucky; one daughter, Savannah Jade
Moon of Huddy, Kentucky; one brother, James Matthew (Sarah)
Moon of Pikeville, Kentucky; one sister, Amber Shawntrell (Allen) Hinkle of Lexington, Kentucky; grandmother, Loucille Matney of Delbarton, West Virginia; mother of his children, Tami
Moon and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held 1 P.M. Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky with Buddy Kendrick and other ministers of the Belfry
Freewill Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinson Cemetery, Rockhouse
Fork, Sidney, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 P.M. Tuesday Evening, August 7, 2012 at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home.

Marie Scalf, 90 of South Williamson, KY, passed away Monday, August 6, 2012 at the
Williamson Memorial Hospital.
She was born February 22, 1922 in Mingo County, WV the daughter of the late Edward
B. and Dollie M. Sipple Cope. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Scalf
and son, Jimmy Tracy.
Marie was a homemaker and a member of the Williamson Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include her brother, Earl E. Cope of South Williamson, Ky.; sister, Virginia
Buchanan of Forest Hills, Ky.; nieces, Shirley Cope, Sylvia McCoy and Rose Chafin; nephew,
Raymond Cope and a host of great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 1:30 PM in the R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Kincaid officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain
View Memory Gardens, Maher, WV with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Wednesday at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel.

Melvina "Tootsie" Loomis, 63 of West Jefferson, Ohio formerly of Pike County, Ky.,
passed away Monday August 6, 2012 at Loving Care Hospice. She was born November 2, 1948
to the late Willard C. Ward and Bobbie Lee Ratliff Gillman.
She is survived by her husband, John Loomis of West Jefferson, Ohio and one daughter,
Carolyn Lee Loomis of West Jefferson, Ohio and other family and friends.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Wednesday night at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday August 9, 2012 at R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home with Gary Thacker officiating. Burial will follow at Dotson Cemetery, Ransom, Ky. with
family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Hobart Otis Browning, 91, of Williamson, WV, passed away
Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 26, 1921 at Taylorville, WV the son of the
late Thomas and Malinda Ellen Justice Browning. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, David, Samuel and Lum Browning
and his twin brother, Herbert Browning; two sisters, Clara Mae
Browning and Bessie Stafford and a stepbrother, Bill Justice.
Hobart was retired from the Mingo County Board of Education, a
member of the VFW, Belfry Chapter #141 DAV, a veteran of the
United States Army and a member of the Ajax Church of Christ.
Survivors include: his wife, Pauline Vermillion Browning of Williamson, WV; daughters, Joyce Browning Scott of Seymour, TN and Ann Grierson of Columbus, Ohio; son, Larry
Browning of Panama, FL; step daughter, Linda Harrison of Ashland, KY; granddaughter, Bambi Lynn Sowards of Ashland, KY and several other grandchildren; great grandchild, Patrick
Garrett Fuda of Ashland, KY and other great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel with Josh Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View
Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with Belfry Chapter #141 D.A.V. conducting military graveside services.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Monday at the Funeral Home Chapel with special services at 7 PM with Sonny Diamond officiating.

David Chalmer Williamson, 73 of Turkey Creek, KY passed away Tuesday, August 14,
2012 at the Skilled Nursing Facility of the Appalachian Regional Hospital.
David was born February 20, 1939 at Williamson, WV the son of the late Samuel and
Dorothy Baker Williamson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Williamson and
several brothers and sisters.
He was a retired employee of the City of Williamson Street Department, a U.S. Army
veteran serving in the Vietnam War and a member of the Williamson 5th Avenue Church of Christ.
Survivors include his son, Jimmy Douglas Williamson of South Williamson, Ky.; brothers, Ralph Williamson of Rockhouse Fork, Sidney, Ky., Stuart Williamson of Chillicothe, Ohio
and Irvin Williamson of Church Hill, TN; sisters, Jean Maynard of Turkey Creek, Ky. and Lucy
Young of Pikeville, Ky. and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 17, 2012 at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Williamson Family Cemetery, Rockhouse Fork,
Sidney, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Wednesday and Thursday at the Funeral Home Chapel.

Grant Varney 88, of Varney, KY, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the residence
of his daughter, Geneva Robinette. He was born February 29, 1924 at Pikeville, Ky. to the late
Dewey and Celia Honaker Varney.
He was also preceded in death by his wife; Jemima Reed Varney and brothers and sisters;
Heller Varney, Bobby Gene Varney, Dewey Varney, Jr., Lonzo Varney, Frankie Harris and
Kansas Reed. Grant was a disabled coal miner.
Survivors include: two daughters, Geneva (Richard) Robinette of Varney, Ky. and JoAnn
(Clifton) Robinette of Varney, Ky.; two brothers, Blidge Varney of Kimper, Ky. and Teddy
Varney of Meta, Ky.; two sisters, Birdie Chapman of Prestonsburg, Ky. and Arizona Varney of
Kimper, Ky.; three grandchildren, Carrie Denise Sparks, Richard Anthony Robinette and Derek
Jordan Robinette; two great grandchildren, Laken Nacole Sparks and Brandon Paul Sparks and
a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Pilgim Home Old
Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the
Robinette Family Cemetery, Varney, Ky. with Anthony Robinette, Derek Robinette, Eric
Sparks, Chris Stewart, Edward Varney and Randy Varney serving as pallbearers. Honorary
pallbearers are Mike Johnson and Mack Newsome.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Thursday at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home and after 5
PM Friday at Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church with special services both nights at 7 PM.
