It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the passing of
Elbert Heston Rose, who passed on Friday, May 15th in his home surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Elbert was born February 10, 1946, in Pike County, Kentucky. He
was the son of Heston "Bud" Rose and Mary Ellen Rose.
Elbert spent most of his life in Pike County, where he spent his free
time plotting an escape to some lake... ANY lake, to chase walleye.
Elbert worked for Norfolk & Southern Railroad from 1973 to 2007.
He retired in 2007 as an engineer. After his retirement, he spent more
time chasing walleye as well as devoting his time to the youth of the Big
Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
Elbert served proudly in the Second 319th Artillery 82nd Airborne. He laid it all on the line
for his country in the Dominican Republic and the Vietnam War.
Elbert was preceded in death by his father, Heston "Bud" Rose, his Mother, Mary Ellen
Rose, his biological mother, Susan J. Meade and his beloved brothers, George Robert Rose and
Joseph Franklin Meade.
Elbert is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Phyllis Jean (Justice) Rose. His children,
Beckie Rose, Amber (Rose) Burchett, and James Heston Rose and his six adoring grandchildren; Kerrigan, Abigayle, Mathew, Jette, Carly and Bella. His brothers, Herman Rondal Rose
and Alfred Wayne Meade. His precious sisters, Nyoka Stanley Baker and Vivian Sue Rose. A
host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles that he loved very much. He is also survived
by his uncle, who was much like a father to him and grandfather to his children, Paul Derossett.
I would be remiss if I didn't let you know that Elbert Rose loved Jesus very much and Jesus
loved him. It would be his eternal wish that you would all come to know Jesus and meet him in Heaven someday.
Services will be held at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home at Belfry, Kentucky. Visitation will be
May 17th and May 18th beginning at 7 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at
11 AM, May 19th with burial to follow at the family cemetery, fondly named the "Rose Garden" by Elbert himself.
Services will be led by Big Creek Freewill Baptist Church, Pastor Gary Blackburn. In lieu of
flowers, Elbert wanted donations made to The St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Belfry Chapter
#141 Disabled American Veterans will conduct Military Services after the funeral.
