Linnie Coleman

Linnie Marie “Sissy” Eldridge Coleman, 35, of Dandridge, Tenn., died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011.

She was born in Williamson, W.Va., May 31, 1975, the daughter of Alice Gearles Eldridge and the late Haven Eldridge.

She was a homemaker.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Craig Coleman of Stopover; one daughter, Whitney Coleman of Stopover; one son, Gavin Coleman of Newport, Tenn.; five sisters, Louise Ratliff of Rutledge, Tenn., Debbie Layne and Patty Layne, both of Freeburn, Lavonne Adkins and Sierra Woolard, both of Dandridge; and two brothers, Jeffery Layne and Haven Lee Eldridge, both of Freeburn.

Jamie Dotson

Jamie Zenas Dotson, 40, of Phelps, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at Freeburn, the result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

He was born in Port Clinton, Ohio, Aug. 10, 1971, the son of Zenas Jr. Dotson and Sheila Radloff Dotson.

He was a coal miner.

Besides his parents, he is survived by three daughters, Clairssa LaShea Dotson, Jamie Desiree Dotson and Farah Jade Dotson; and two brothers, Jason Nathaniel Dotson and Warren Michael Dotson.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in The Lord’s House, with the Rev. Mitch Bowling and Rev. Chris Casey officiating. Burial followed in the Billy Dotson Cemetery. Arrangements were under direction of Phelps Funeral Services.

Frank Duncan

Frank Duncan Jr., 88, of Williamson, W.Va., died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.

He was born in Allock, Aug. 6, 1923, the son of the late Frank and Stella Brown Duncan.

He was a retired airplane mechanic for the North American Rockwell Co., now owned by Boeing, and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Duncan.

He is survived by two sons, Phillip D. Duncan of Belfry and Frank Duncan of Aptos, Calif.; and two sisters, Mable Eaton of Florida and Katherine Anderson of Virginia.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Mark Helton officiating. Burial followed in Lenore Memorial Gardens, Lenore, W.Va. Arrangements were under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Graveside military services were conducted by Belfry Chapter #141 D.A.V.

Jimmie Little

Jimmie A. Little, 63, of Robinson Lane of Caney Creek, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Pike County, Feb. 6, 1948, the son of Lorine Calhoun Little of Long Fork and the late Melvin Little.

He was an electrician in the coal mines.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles C. Little.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Judy Smith Little; one son, James Little of Caney; one daughter, Kym Ellison of Princeton, W.Va.; two brothers, Randall G. Little of Sugar Camp and Carl K. Little of Long Fork; four sisters, Shirley F. Senters of Shelbiana, Shelby J. Case of Long Fork, Rhonda F. Mullins of Robinson Creek, Judy R. Burke of Ypsilanti, Mich.; and one granddaughter, Gypsy Cheyenne Mahon of Princeton.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial followed in the Potter Cemetery, Yeager. Arrangements were under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.

Norma Maynard

Norma Caines “Snookie” Maynard, 85, of South Williamson, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at the Skilled Nursing Facility, South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.

She was born in South Williamson, Nov. 30, 1925, the daughter of the late Homer (Bill) and Caroline Nelson Caines.

She taught school during World War II, was part owner of C&M Market and formerly ran a boarding house. She was a homemaker and a member of the Rockhouse Church of the Brethren for over 50 years.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, George David Maynard.

She is survived by one daughter, Jenny Stanley of Belfry; and one brother, John Caines of Chattaroy, W.Va.

Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Oct. 6, in the Hatfield Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.

Rush Scott

Rush L. Scott, 75, of Pikeville, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Pikeville, July, 18, 1935, the son of the late Arthur and Flora Scott.

He was a master plumber, building contractor and owner of Scott’s Cabinet Center, and was a past president of the Kentucky Home Builders. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Stone Coal Church of Christ.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Cochran Scott.

He is survived by two sisters, Mavis Lindemann of Pikeville and Eleanor Carbary of Overpeak; and one brother, Bill Scott (Matilda) of Pikeville. Pallbearers were Shawn Cochran, Will Stepp, Glenn Mullins, Willie Carter, Dean Scott, Billy Jack Scott, Shannon Cochran and Jacob Bartley

Honorary Pallbearers were Liz Tackett, Karen Mitchell, Rita Hamilton, Freda Hamilton, Loretta Patrick, Brenda Newsom, Rhonda Nelson and Sharon Charles.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Randal Parsons and Philip Keathley officiating. Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

John Slife

John Allen Slife, 63, of Pikeville, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Towanda, Pa., Feb. 18, 1948, the son of the late Leo Duane Slife and Dona Allen Slife.

He graduated from Pikeville College in 1975 with a degree in education and he also played basketball. He was retired from the Kentucky Transportation Department where he was employed as an engineer for 33 years.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Slife.

He is survived by one son, Craig Ryan Slife of Pikeville; two daughters, Aimee Careen Norman (Carl) of Stambaugh and Christie Dawn Adkins (Eric) of Pikeville; one brother, William Jeffrey “Jeff” Slife of Scranton, Pa.; and four grandchildren, Kyle Norman, Brianna Adkins, Kaitlyn Norman and Isaac Adkins.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with J.M. Sloce officiating. Burial will follow in the Ferguson Cemetery, Harold. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Ray Thacker

Ray Thacker, 81, of Mt. Sterling, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011.

He was born in Pike County, June 24, 1930, the son of the late James F. Thacker and Maudie Fife Thacker.

He was formerly employed by Island Creek Coal Company, was a member of United Mine Workers of America, was a Korean War veteran, and a member of White Oak Regular Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by one son, Harold Ray Thacker; seven brothers, Greeley Thacker, Guy Thacker, Ollie Thacker, Everett Thacker, Aster Thacker, Ferry Thacker and Tommy Thacker; four sisters, Jennie Bartley, Birdie Anderson, Blanche Wright and Molly Jean Thacker.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Justice Thacker; two sons, Ricky Thacker of Mt. Vernon and Harvey Thacker of Bowling Green; three daughters, Linda Darnell Thacker of Lexington, Jacqueline Howard of Salyersville, Gearldine Oldfield of Mt. Sterling; one sister, Nona Ratliff of Franklin; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in the Taul Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, with military rites, will follow in the Machpelah Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Taul Funeral Homes Inc. of Mt. Sterling.

Barbara Thompson

Barbara Thompson, 49, of Lower Johns Creek, passed from this earthly life on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 13, 1962, the daughter of the late Charley and Ollie Marie Chapman.

Barbara was a homemaker and a member of the Freedom Bible Church.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by one sister, Emma Jean.

She is survived by her loving husband, Willard Thompson; six brothers, James Chapman (June), Douglas Chapman (Dinah) and Gary Chapman (Judy), all of Kimper, Jackie Chapman (Suzie) of Pikeville, W.C. Chapman of Phelps, Clifford Chapman (Eileen) of Williamson, W.Va.; seven sisters, Dixie Simon (Tim) of Florida, Mary Wolfe (Clifford) of Ohio, Janice Collins, Linda Johnson, and Brenda McGuire, all of Pikeville, Ruth McDaniel of North Carolina, Betty May (Ralph) of Sidney; and very special friends, Deb Howard, Marcia and Tim Ratliff, and Manual and Debra Napier.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, in the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Keith Gevedon, Adam Chapman, Terry Gibson and Larry Mullins officiating. Entombment will follow in Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel. Arrangements are under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.

Billy Williamson

Billy “Pap” Williamson, 72, of Lick Creek, went home to praise the Good Lord on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011.

He was born to Kelster and Sofa Abshire Williamson on May 18, 1939, in Pike County, Kentucky.

He was a coal miner for 42 years and a member of the Lick Creek Holiness Church.

Daddy loved Jesus, his family and friends. He enjoyed his garden, four-wheeling, berry picking and the outdoors.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Lummie Williamson; four sisters, Dixie Williamson, Lois Norman, Margaret Haynes and Mildred Spears; and one brother, James Williamson.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Grace Williamson; one son, Ronald Abshire of Feds Creek; three daughters, Renee Buchanan (Billy) of Banner, Dewana Pinson of Meta and Sharon Mullins (Richard) of Lick Creek; seven grandchildren, Branham, Weston, Sosha, Hayden, Rebekah, Kristi and Mason; one daughter-in-law, Crystal Abshire of Lick Creek; three brothers, Lloyd Williamson of Belcher, Raymond Williamson of Bristol, Va., John Williamson of Pikeville; and four sisters, Emilou Brewer and Martha Bond, both of Lexington, Hazel Prater of Georgia and Mary Martin of Texas.

Come celebrate the life and the home-going on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Lick Creek Holiness Church. Bro. Ray Sayers will be officiating. Final rest will be in the Williamson Family Cemetery at Lick Creek.
