Lorena Faye Cooper Brown, 73, of Morehead, passed away Dec. 6, 2005, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and former department store employee in Dayton, Ohio. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Christian Church.
Born April 20, 1932, in Fleming County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Delmore Cooper and Gladys Hurst Cooper.
Surviving are her husband, Omer L. Brown; four sons, Omer P. (Phil) Brown, of Jamestown, Ohio, Tim W. Brown of Atlanta, Mich., Randy L. Brown of Columbus, Ohio and Brian D. Brown of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one brother, Larry Cooper of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Lelia Butcher of Fleming County and Jennie Lou Adamson of Manchester, Ohio; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was one brother, Oral Douglas Cooper.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 9 at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James DeAtley officiating; burial was in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
Freida Charlene Kerns
Freida Charlene Kerns, 60, of Elizaville, passed away Dec. 5, 2005, at St. Joseph East in Lexington.
Ms. Kerns worked at Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America, Inc. She was a member of Hilltop Christian Church and a 1963 graduate of Fleming County High School.
Born in Fleming County on May 17, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Mary Mitchell Hunt and Russell Hunt.
Surviving are one son, Randy Kerns of Elizaville; five brothers, Charlie Hunt of Ewing, Harold Hunt of Flemingsburg, Jimmy Hunt of Lexington and J.C. (Mary Ann) Hunt of Gas City, Ind; four sisters, Emogene (Allen) Bailey of Dayton, Ohio, Marguerite Hawkins of Flemingsburg and Janice (Gip) Flora of Elizaville; a special friend, Vickie Emmons of Hillsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Donald (Pop) Hunt; and one sister, Virginia Stephens.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 8 at Denton-Workman Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Anderson officiating. Interment was in Elizaville Cemetery.
Glen Raikes
Glen Raikes, 69, of Pleasant Valley, Morehead, passed away Dec. 6, 2005, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Mr. Raikes attended Morehead State University and was a former employee of Perks, Inc. and Abner Construction. He was also former manager of S & T Hardware and had been a truck driver for Harold White Lumber Company. He was a former member of Morehead Masonic Lodge and Morehead Lions Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Born Sept. 11, 1936, in Bradfordsville, he was the son of the late Rev. J. C. Raikes and Virginia Moore Raikes.
Surviving are his wife, Alice May Raikes; one son, Bobby Raikes of Flemingsburg; one stepdaughter, April Barker of Morehead; two grandchildren, Cameron Raikes and Jordan Raikes; and four step-grandchildren, Marvin Wallace Jr., Joseph Wallace, Jessie Wallace and LaRanda Brown.
Preceding him in death was one son, Stuart Glen Raikes.
Graveside services and interment were conducted Dec. 8 at May Cemetery with the Rev. Lansford May and Elder Vernon May officiating.
Mary Neal Argo McLean
Mary Neal Argo McLean, 91, of Ewing Road, Ewing, passed away Dec. 10, 2005, at her residence.
Mrs. McLean was a retired school bus driver for the Fleming County School system where she drove for 41 years. She was also a farmer and landowner who farmed into her mid-80s. As anyone who worked for her could tell you, she could do as much as any man. Mrs. McLean was a member of the Ewing Baptist Church.
Born Nov. 28, 1914, in Fleming County, she was the daughter of the late Radar and Sadie Worthington.
Surviving are one daughter, Norma (Don) Workman of Flemingsburg; seven grandchildren, Donna Ensminger, Billie Rollins, Gary Workman, Jennifer Bussell, Lisa Newsom, and Allen and Tony Argo; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and two daughters-in-law, Sylvia Reynolds and Marjorie Argo.
Preceding her in death were her first husband, Ray Argo; her second husband, Foster McLean; two sons, Calvin Argo and Charles Ray Argo; and four brothers, Tommy, Charles, Lee and Marvin Worthington;
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 14 at Ewing Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Marcum and the Rev. Dwayne Sowell officiating. Burial was in the Elizaville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ewing Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Hope, Maysville. The Denton-Workman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
