Jessie Mullins

Jessie Mullins, 77, of Hi Hat, died Sunday, October 22, 2000, at his residence, following an extended illness.

Born on April 6, 1923, in Halo, he was the son of the late Jim Rowe Mullins and Bertha Hall Mullins. He was disabled.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Fingerson Mullins.

Other survivors include seven sons, Timothy Mullins, David Henderson, and Blaine Adkins, all of Hi Hat, Cliff Herring of Floyd County, Frank Lee Adkins of Bevinsville, Billy Gene Adkins of Martin, John Lee Adkins of Illinois; three daughters, Judy Johnson of Wayland, Dawn Fraley of Michigan, Bertha Dunn of Vicco; 20 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 25, at 10 a.m., at the Little Rock Old Regular Baptist Church, Bevinsville, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.

Burial will be in in the Honey Camp Cemetery, Bevinsville, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.

Bessie Bradford Hackworth

Bessie Bradford Hackworth, 73, of Auxier, died Sunday, October 22, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.

Born on October 8, 1927, at West Prestonsburg, she was the daughter of the late Winston and Lizzie Slone Bradford.

Her husband, Johnnie Hackworth, preceded her in death.

Survivors include four sons, John Wayne Hackworth of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Ronnie Hackworth, DeGarmo Hackworth, and James Hackworth, all of Auxier; three daughters, Judy Carol Bays of East Point, Helen H. Slone and Debbie Rowe, both of Auxier; one brother, Berlin Bradford of Blue River; one sister, Mary Bradford of Florida; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 25, at 10:30 a.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with Rev. William Jaggers officiating.

Burial will be in the Hackworth Family Cemetery at Auxier, under the direction of Floyd Funeral Home.

Juanita Akers

Juanita Akers, 65, of Banner, died Saturday, October 21, 2000, in the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, following an extended illness.

She was born on October 20, 1935, in Dana, the daughter of the late Allen W. Akers and Myrtle Boyd Akers. She was retired from Hall and Clark Insurance Agency, Prestonsburg; for many years was secretary for Akers & Akers Construction; and was a member of the Boldman Freewill Baptist Church for 30 years.

Survivors include one sister, Lazelle Williams of Banner; two brothers, Daniel Artis Akers and Euhlan Ray Akers, both of Banner.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, October 24, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the clergyman, Bellmont Johnson, officiating.

Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Juanita Akers were Ralph Slone, Brian Davis, Keith Williams, Bill Davis, Jimmy Akers, Jason Akers, Jackie Bush, Craig Davis, and Phillip Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers were Dick Clark, Joe Taylor, Coy Samons, Tim Newsome, Matt Williams, John Boyd and Gary Akers.

Burial was in the Allen W. Akers Cemetery, Dana, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.

Johnny B. Pack

Johnny B. Pack, 64, of Garrett, died Monday, October 23, 2000, at his residence, following a brief illness.

Born on October 8, 1936, in Garrett, he was the son of the late Leonard and Gladys Martin Pack. He was a retired coal miner and member of UMWA Local No. 5899, Wheelwright.

He is survived by his wife, Allee Moore Pack.

Other survivors include two sons, Michael Pack of Garrett, Jerry Moore Pack of Plain City, Ohio; four daughters, Barbara Hicks of Garrett, Teresa Munschauer, Tammy Singer and Libby Reck, all of Ohio; two brothers, Frankie Pack of Eastern, Jackie Pack of Prestonsburg; one sister, Maureen Hensley of Eastern; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 25, at 3 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, with Jerry Manns officiating.

Burial will be in the Hensley Cemetery, at Eastern, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.

Lincoln Brown

Lincoln Brown, 72, of Morgantown, formerly of Allen, died Sunday, October 22, 2000, at his residence.

He was born in February 1929, in Prestonsburg, the son of the late William Brown and Lula Porter Brown. He was a retired construction worker, and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Inez Bentley Brown.

Other survivors include five sons, Rick Brown of Bremen, Indiana, Charles Brown, Ballard Brown and David Brown, all of Lexington, William Brown of Morgantown; two daughters, Patricia Kay Brown of Lexington, Vanessa Blunk of Morgantown; two sisters, Molly Armstrong of Columbus, Ohio, May Hamilton of Allen; and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 25, at 2 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the clergyman, Denver Meade, officiating.

Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Lincoln Brown were Ballard Brown, William Brown, Rodney Blunk, James Hunt, Anthony Osborne and Keith Brown.

Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.

Laura Conley Gamble McClure

Laura Conley Gamble McClure, 78, of Columbus, Georgia, died Friday, October 20, 2000.

She was born on February 11, 1922, in Knott County, the daughter of the late Milton Conley and Martha Waddles Conley.

Survivors include two sons, Milton H. Gamble of Columbus, Georgia, Stephen W. Gamble of El Paso, Texas; two sisters, Louise Patton of Hueysville, Virginia C. Howard of Prestonsburg; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, October 24, at 10 a.m., in the Family Cemetery, on Motts Branch in Lackey, with Alan Chaffins officiating, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.

Chester Harold Epling

Chester Harold Epling, 69, of Martin, died Wednesday, October 18, 2000.

Born on November 16, 1930, he was the son of the late Estil Epling and Carrie Rowe Epling. He was a factory worker.

He is survived by his wife, Emogene Thacker Epling.

Other survivors include three sons, Larry Epling of Bryant, Ohio, Harold Dean Epling of Akron, Ohio, James Richard Epling of Lexington; two daughters, Tonya Trimble of Salyersville, Donna Lynn Hall of Martin; one brother, Bobby Epling of Akron, Ohio; five sisters, Ruth Ruby of Akron, Ohio, Cloa Chaney and Betty Thacker, both of Pikeville, Lavonne Smith of Marrowbone, Dorothy Thompson of Grundy, Virginia; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 21, at 2 p.m., with Jerry Scott, Leroy Auxier and Morris Scott officiating.

Burial was in the Annie E. Young Mausoleum, under the direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home.

Joe Howell

Joe Howell, 78, of Tippecanoe, Indiana, formerly of Drift, died Thursday, October 19, 2000, at his residence.

Born in Amba, on February 19, 1922, he was the son of the late William and Emily Spencer Howell. He was a resident of Tippecanoe for the past 37 years. He retired from Turner Elkhorn Mining Company of Floyd County, after 22 years. He then worked for Midwest Spring Manufacturing of Mentone for 15 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of United Mine Workers Union for 22 years. He enjoyed gardening as a hobby. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church of LaPorte.

He is survived by his wife, Naretta Howell.

Other survivors include two daughters, Phyllis King of Bourbon, Indiana, and Brenda Iams of Kansas City, Kansas; two sons, Gary Howell of Etna Green, Indiana, and Rodney Howell of Rochester, Indiana, and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 22, in the United Baptist Church of Tippecanoe, with Pastors Monroe Jones and Delmas Stiles.

Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bourbon, Indiana, under the direction of Deaton Funeral Home of Bourbon.

Larry Rowe

Larry Rowe, 52, of Weeksbury, died Wednesday, October 18, 2000, at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a short illness.

Born on June 16, 1948, in Weeksbury, he was the son of Ruby Coleman Rowe of Melvin, and the late Aula Rowe. He was a disabled heavy equipment operator.

Survivors include one son, Tommy Rowe of Melvin; three sisters, Merwonne Childers of Cleveland, Ohio, Patricia Evanoff and Dicy Kay Thornsberry of Melvin.

Graveside services were conducted Saturday, October 21, at 2 p.m., at the Lonesome Pine Cemetery, Weeksbury, with Pastor Roy Cosby officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
