Carl Eugene "Carbide" Bentley

Carl Eugene "Carbide" Bentley, 63, of McDowell, died Tuesday, August 15, 2000, following a sudden illness.

Born on July 8, 1937, in McDowell, he was the son of the late Hatfield Bentley Sr. and Dorothy Jones Bentley. He was a retired coal miner, a member of Little Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church at McDowell, and was a United States Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Rose Moore Bentley.

Other survivors include three sons, Donnie Charles Bentley and Dwight David Bentley both of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Carl Eugene Bentley Jr. of McDowell; one daughter, Marcie Bentley of Lexington; two brothers, Paul Bentley of Hippo, Curt Bentley of McDowell; one sister, Ruby Damron of McDowell; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 18, at 11 a.m., at the Little Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church, McDowell, with Clinton Moore, Jimmy Hall, and others officiating.

Burial will be in the Greenbury Hall Cemetery, McDowell, under the direction of the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

David Elmer Wilson

David Elmer Wilson, 35, of Tram, died Wednesday, August 16, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, following an extended illness.

Born on December 31, 1964, in Pikeville, he was the son of Viola M. Shepherd Wilson of Tram, and the late Pete Elmer Wilson. He was a disabled park laborer and was a member of the Tram Church of Christ.

Survivors include two brothers, Pete Wilson Jr. and Mike Wilson, both of Tram; four sisters, Margaret Wilson Hall and Barbara Wilson Anderson, both of Tram, Shelia Kay Olinger of Hazard, and Juanita Carter of Lexington.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 19, at 1 p.m., at the Tram Church of Christ, with several ministers officiating.

Eddie Hackworth

Eddie Hackworth, 91, of Bonanza, died Wednesday, August 16, 2000, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center.

Born on January 2, 1909, at Bonanza, he was the son of the late Sanford and Belle Click Hackworth. He was a retired coal miner, and a member of the Bonanza Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Julia "Hannah" Hackworth.

Other survivors include three sons, William Sanford Hackworth and Ishmael Hackworth, both of Prestonsburg and Ross Edward Hackworth of North Manchester, Indiana; four daughters, Anna Marie Prater of Akron, Indiana and Edna Carol Nelson, Genoia Hackworth and Donna Hackworth all of Prestonsburg; one brother, Jerry Hackworth of Wooster, Ohio; one sister, Grace Greer of Prestonsburg, 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great-children.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 19, at 1 p.m., at the Bonanza Freewill Baptist Church, with Jimmy Brown, Bill Campbell and Buddy Jones officiating.

Burial will be in the Hackworth family cemetery at Bonanza, under the direction of Floyd Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers for Eddie Hackworth were: Chester Prater, Jeff Prater, Vernal Eugene Hackworth, Ronnie Hackworth, Dewey Sanford Hackworth, Keith Hackworth, Steven Hackworth, Gary Prater, Gregory Prater, and Jason Prater. Honorary pallbearer: Robie Prater Jr.

Visitation is at the church.

Bob Webb

Bob Webb, 70, of Beaver, died Thursday, August 17, 2000, at his residence, following an extended illness.

Born on November 24, 1929, in Pike County, he was the son of the late Will and Gracie Webb. He was a disabled coal miner.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hattie Paige Webb, and his second wife, Lacy Tackett Webb.

Survivors include three sons, Bill Webb and Danny Webb, both of Beaver, Donnie Webb of Clyde, Ohio; three daughters, Verdie Evans of Craynor, Mabeth Baker of Beaver, Bonnie Koestel of Louisville, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 19, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Orville Mitchell and others officiating.

Burial wll be in the Gayheart Cemetery, Beaver, under the direction of the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Ralph Earl Allen

Ralph Earl Allen, 89, of Clifton Forge, Virginia, formerly of McDowell, Ky., husband of the late Pauline Hall Allen, and brother of the late Oliver Edward Allen, Ray Robert Allen, Edith Allen O'Hara, Edward Allen, and Edgar Allen, passed away Monday, August 14, 2000, at the Sue Allegahany Regional Hospital in Virginia.

He was born September 10, 1910, in Martin, Ky., the son of the late Martin Van Allen and Elizabeth Gibson Allen. Mr. Allen was a retired miner and businessman. He was a Floyd County Deputy Sheriff, a first class mine foreman, a mine inspector, owned and operated Allen Insurance Agency, Martin, Ky., and was an U.S. Army, World War II Veteran.

Survivors include one son, Milford Ray Allen, Clifton Forge, Va.; three granddaughters, Amber Suzanne Allen, Anmarie Rosalee Allen, and Jana Cheri Allen; one grandson, Landon Ray Allen; two nephews, Forrest Robert Allen and Martin Van Allen both of Winchester, Ky.; four nieces, April Lynn Allen May, Pikeville, Ky., and Mary Elizabeth Allen Slone, McDowell, Ky., Ann Davis and Kaye Gwinn both of Louisville, Kentucky.

Funeral services for Ralph Earl Allen will be conducted Friday, August 18, 2000, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the clergyman Ted Shannon officiating. Burial will follow in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, McDowell, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky.

Visitation is after 6:00 p.m., Wednesday here at the funeral home, with service Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m.

Pallbearers: Marty Allen, Bobby Allen, Landon Allen, Ralph Allen Slone, Tommy Hall and John C. Hall, Jr.

Honorary: Mary Elizabeth Allen Slone, April Lynn Allen May, Wecie Allen, Tiny Thompson, Freda Akers, Verniece Stamper, Kathryn O. Hall and Virginia Hall.

Bruce Edwards

Bruce Edwards, 72, of Sullivan, Ohio, died Wednesday, August 9, 2000, at home.

Born on July 29, 1928, in Garrett, he was the son of Ephriam and Julie Bell Owsley Edwards.

He lived in Wellington before moving to Sullivan 17 years ago.

He had been a truck driver and manager of the Sullivan Shell Station and was currently employed by the Sullivan Township maintaining the parks and cemeteries.

Survivors include four daughters, Gail Pay and Kim Clantz, of Sullivan, Gay Reed of Plain City, Jessica Edwards at home; one son, Dale Edwards of Ashland; two sisters, Ella Rose Lafferty, of Franklin, Dorlis VanHoose, of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Lloyd Edwards of Prestonsburg, Cecil Edwards of Middletown; nine grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, August 12, at Parker & Son Funeral Home, Spencer, with pastor Billie Joe Wheeler officiating.

Burial was in the Sullivan Southview Cemetery, under the direction of Parker & Son Funeral Home.

Nora Edith Akers Howell

Nora Edith Akers Howell, 83, of Banner, died Saturday, November 4, 2000, in Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.

She was born August 18, 1917, in Dana, the daughter of the late Wilburn Conn and Gracie Boyd Conn. She was a member of the Little Salem Regular Baptist Church, at Dana.

She is survived by her husband, Walker Howell.

Other survivors include one son, Wesley Boyd of Lincoln Park, Michigan; one brother, Jack Conn of Riverview, Michigan; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 7, at 10 a.m., at the Little Salem Regular Baptist Church, Dana, with the Regular Baptist ministers officiating.

Burial was in the Fred Conn Cemetery, at Dana, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.

Carl Everette Rowe

Carl Everette Rowe, 52, of Melvin, died Saturday, November 4, 2000, at his residence.

Born on November 23, 1947, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Leslie and Thelma Collins Rowe. He was a disabled mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Caldwell Rowe.

Other survivors include two sons, Ricky Rowe of Ligon, Leslie Scott Rowe of Melvin; two daughters, Carla Vance of Hi Hat, Kristen Francis Rowe of Melvin; one sister, Linda Johnson of Melvin; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 7, at noon, at the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Chiurch, with Rev. Louis Ferrari and Ralph Tennyson officiating.

Burial was in the Matthew Tackett Cemetery, at Melvin, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.

Charles Edgel Henderson

Charles Edgel Henderson, 64, of McDowell, died Sunday, November 5, 2000, at his residence, following an extended illness.

Born on May 30, 1936, in Dony, he was the son of the late Ben and Dony Akers Henderson. He was a disabled coal miner and a member of the Old Time Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtie Lou Carroll Henderson.

Other survivors include one son, Berchell Henderson of Big Prairie, Ohio; one daughter, Martha Meade of McDowell; two brothers, Franklin Henderson of Big Prairie, Ohio, Johnny Henderson of Lakeville, Ohio; five sisters, Ada Paige of Ashland, Ohio, Clady Blachely of Lakeville, Ohio, Erma Lance of Loudonville, Ohio, Ruby Gayheart of Printer, Susie Austin of Wooster, Ohio; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 8, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Denver Meade and other Old Time Baptist ministers officiating.

Burial will be in the Greenbury Hall Cemetery, McDowell, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
