Juanita Shannon

Juanita Shannon, 83, of Drift, died Friday, October 27, 2000, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, following an extended illness.

She was born September 3, 1917, in Hellier, the daughter of the late Milt Simpson and Sally Preston Simpson. She was a retired assistant postmaster at Drift.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jefferson Shannon.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 29, at 1 p.m., at the Drift Pentecostal Church, with the clergyman, Chester Hurst, officiating.

Burial was in the Drift Cemetery, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.

Pallbearers were Johnny Pack, Greg Stumbo, Steve Stumbo, Donnie Shannon, Charles Simpson, Harold Simpson, Terry Blackburn and Greg Frasure.

Honorary pallbearers were James Price, Denver D. Tackett, Bobby Allen and Jake Fraley Jr.

Clifford "Buster" Thompson

Clifford "Buster" Thompson, 70, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, died Friday, October 27, 2000, at his residence.

He was born November 3, 1929, in Kentucky, the son of late Bennie and Rosanna "Johnson" Thompson. He was a maintenance supervisor, armed forces veteran, past president of the Milwaukee Solo Parents, and editor of Mature Singles newsletter.

He is survived by two sons, Gregory and Dennis Thompson; one daughter, Libby Burzynski; one brother, Donald Thompson; 12 grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, November 4, at 1 p.m., at the Mayo Cemetery at Lancer. All arrangements are under the direction of the Floyd Funeral Home, Prestonsburg.

Glo Deweyll Turner Osborne

Glo Deweyll Turner Osborne, 71, of Drift, died Sunday, October 29, 2000, in Florida.

She was born June 26, 1929, in Drift, the daughter of the late Raymond Turner and Tana Martin Turner. She was a retired store merchant, owner and operator of Triangle and Wayside Markets, and a member of the Allen United Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Norman Dewey Osborne.

Other survivors include one son, Norman Scott Osborne of Ft. Myers, Florida.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, November 2, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the clergyman, Clinton Moore, officiating.

Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Glo Deweyll Turner Osborne were Scott Osborne, John Hawkins, Harold Osborne, Randy Burke, Andy Elliott, Ernie Po and Jody Spriggs.

Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.

Eulavene Lewis

Eulavene Lewis, 84, of Banner, died Sunday, October 29, 2000, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital.

She was born June 7, 1916, in Banner, the daughter of the late Alfred Lewis and Emma Hunt Lewis. She was a member of the Free United Baptist Church, West Prestonsburg.

Her husband, Elder Lewis Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Lewis of Van Lear, James D. Lewis of Banner; two daughters, Elsie Smith and Freda Smith, both of Banner; one sister, Minnie Lewis of West Liberty, 32 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 1, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the clergymen, Sterlin Bolen and Ernie D. Blevins, officiating.

Serving as pallbearers for the funerals of Eulavene Lewis and Virginia Lewis were Jason Jarvis, Shannon Wallen, Jerry Amburgy, Jerry Lewis, Charles Lewis, Ellis Lewis, Billy Ray Lewis, Jeremy Web, Larry Smith, Edward Lewis, Kenneth Lewis, Ralph Lewis Jr., Leo Lewis, Doug Salisbury, Charles Lewis, Joe Lewis, James Smith, Gary Lewis, Bo Martin, Shawn Amburgy, Donald Jordon, Charles Lewis, William Conley, Jonathan Lewis, Sammy Lewis and Kelvin Lewis.

Burial will be in the Lewis Family Cemetery, Banner, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.

Gertrude Burke

Gertrude Burke, 78, of Wheelwright, died Sunday, October 29, 2000, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born on September 15, 1922, in Price, she was the daughter of the late King Pharoah "Buddy" and Viola Bryant.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Simon Burke.

Survivors include three sons, Maurice Burke, Willie Burke and Elvis Burke, all of Wheelwright; two brothers, Bert T. Bryant and Frank Bryant, both of Wheelwright; three sisters, Octavia Johnson, and Arinda Collins, both of Wheelwright, and Betty Slone of Bypro; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, October 31, at 11 a.m., at the Joppa Old Regular Baptist Church, with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.

Burial was in the Newman Cemetery, Hi Hat, under the direction of R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home.

Ralph "Shakespeare" Little

Ralph Shakespeare Little, 64, of Bevinsville, died Sunday, August 13, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness.

Born on August 29, 1935, in Buckingham, he was the son of the late Leonard and Hannah Bates Little. He was a retired school teacher.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 16, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Louis Ferrari and minisers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.

Burial will be in the Buckingham Cemetery, at Bevinsville, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Johnny Eugene Jenkins

Johnny Eugene Jenkins, 26, of Crandall, Georgia, formerly of Kentucky, died Thursday, August 10, 2000, at Chattanooga, Tennessee, following an automobile accident.

Born on March 16, 1974, in Flint, Michigan, he was the son of Charles and Debra Woods. He was a factory worker.

He is survived by his wife, Amy Gaskill Hopkins.

Other survivors include one daughter, Amber Lee Hopkins of Crandall, Georgia; one brother, Charles Woods of Crandall, Georgia; four sisters, Heather Sumners, Bianca Sumners, and Lori Woods, all of Crandall, Georgia, and Bridgett Woods of Atlanta, Georgia.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, August 13, at noon, at the Kodac Church of God, at Vicco, with Rev. Lloyd Bowling and Rev. Ely Smith officiating.

Burial was in the family cemetery, Vicco, under the direction of the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.

Carl Curtis Robinson

Carl Curtis Robinson, 84, of East Point, died Monday, August 7, 2000, at his residence.

Born on November 13, 1915, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Samuel L. "Sam" Robinson and Josie Music Robinson. He was a retired miner and welder.

He is survived by his wife, Opal Whitaker Robinson.

Other survivors include one son, Kenneth Robinson of East Point; and one daughter, Carol Jean Pelphrey of East Point; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, August 10, at 1 p.m., at the Whitaker Freewill Baptist Church, with Hubert Slone officiating.

Burial was in the family cemetery, at East Point, under the direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home.

Palmer Craft

Palmer Craft, 51, of Wayland, died Monday, August 14, 2000, at the U.K. Medical Center at Lexington.

Born on January 10, 1949, he was the son of the late Maryland Craft and Brookie Thornsberry Craft.

He is survived by his wife, Della Castle Craft.

Other survivors include two sons, Palmer "Bo" Craft and Justin Craft, both of Wayland; three sisters, Jenny Slone, Judy Fraley and Betty Lee, all of Wayland.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 17, at the Rock Fork Regular Baptist Church with Earl Slone, Jerry Manns, Wayne Stephens and Buddy Jones officiating.

Burial will be in the Martin Cemetery at Wayland, under the direction of Hindman Funeral Services.
