Bertha Helen Dickerson Risner

Bertha Helen Dickerson Risner, 60, of Prestonsburg, died Thursday, August 3, 2000, at the Salyersville Health Care Center, of an extended illness.

Born in Pike County, she was the daughter of the late James Auburn Dickerson and Berta Johnson. She was a clerk.

She is survived by her husband, Emzy Risner.

Other survivors include one daughter, Pam Clark of Prestonsburg; and two sons, Billy Risner of McGuffey, Ohio, James Risner of Ada, Ohio and two granddaughters.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 6, at 11 a.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Robert Greene officiating.

Active pallbearers for the funeral of Bertha Helen Risner were John Marsillett, Keith Marsillett, Dwight Slone, David Meade, Billy Hicks and Tony Whitaker.

Burial will be in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Prestonsburg, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.

George Rodney King

George Rodney King, 58, of Rainelle, West Virginia, former native of Drift, died Thursday, July 27, 2000.

He was the son of the late George Will King and Grace King Spencer, formerly of Drift.

He is survived by two sons, Ronnie King of Thompson, Ohio, Mark King of Mentor, Ohio; two brothers, Ray Mullins of Miamisburg, Ohio, Randy Spencer of Cleveland, Ohio; six sisters, Dottie Penrod of Greenville, Ohio, Jean McPeaks of Diamond, Ohio, Debbie Churderewicz of Mentor, Ohio, Brenda Yoder of Elyria, Ohio, Linda Proffitt of Cleveland, Ohio and Judy McKenzie of Urbana, Indiana; and 3 grandchildren.

Burial was in the All Souls Cemetery, Chardon, Ohio.

Troy Frasure

Troy Frasure, 88, of Galveston, died Thursday, August 3, 2000, at Mountain Manor Nursing Home, Pikeville, following an extended illness.

Born on July 8, 1912, in Frasures Creek, he was the son of the late Oliver and Roxie Alley Frasure. He was a disabled coal miner and a member of the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Verlie Hamilton Frasure.

Survivors include seven sons, Ed Frasure of Pikeville, Palmer Frasure of Teaberry, Tom Frasure, Glen Frasure, Charles Frasure, Garrett Frasure, all of Galveston, Eddie Frasure of Collinsville, Virginia; one daughter, Geraldine Blankenship of Galveston; three half-brothers, Wade Frasure and Mose Frasure, both of McDowell, and Earl Frasure, of Ohio; one half-sister, Wilma Kiser of Lucasville, Ohio, 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 7, at 1 p.m., at the residence at Galveston, with Tommy Spears and Bonnie Blankenship officiating.

Burial will be in the Frasure Family Cemetery, at Galveston, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.

Rita M. Adams

Rita M. Adams, 68, of Spencerville, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home, Wapakoneta, Ohio.

Born on March 17, 1932, in New Bavaria, she was the daughter of Herman and Bernetta Homier Schuller. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6772 Auxiliary and the Women's Bowling League at Lyn Lee Lanes, both in Spencerville.

Her husband, Floyd County native, Roy D. Adams, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, James E. Adams of Brooks; a daughter, Linda K. Lambert of Spencerville; three brothers, Frank Schuller of Napoleon and Harold and Gerald Schuller, both of Ottawa; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 29, at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, with Rev. Ronald L. Shifley officiating.

Burial was in Spencerville Cemetery, under the direction of Bayliff Funeral Home.

Curtis Tackett Sr.

Curtis Tackett Sr., 82, of McDowell, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, following an extended illness.

Born on October 10, 1917, in Beaver, he was the son of the late Henry Tackett and Millie McCown Tackett. He was a former coal miner and retired union carbide employee in Ashtabula, Ohio, and an U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Veda Hamilton Tackett.

Other survivors include two sons, Curtis Tackett Jr. of McConnells, South Carolina, Jeffrey Tackett of McDowell; four daughters, Gerlie Ginger McCarter and Alrita Shepherd, both of Prestonsburg, Phyllis Ann Ortiz and Dottie Lynn Barnes both of Tempe, Arizona; three sisters, Mary Belle Osborne of Ashtabula, Ohio, Bernice Caudill of Prestonsburg, Pauline Hamilton of Betsy Layne, 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 3, at 2 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, at Martin, with Clergyman Clinton Moore, and others, officiating.

Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Curtis Tackett Sr. were Rubin Ortiz, Benjie Caudill, Garlis Caudill, Curtis Tackett Jr., Luke Tackett and Jimmy Ray McKinney.

Burial will be in the Jack Hall Cemetery, Neds Fork, McDowell, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.

Gladys DePriest Blackburn

Gladys DePriest Blackburn, 88, of Prestonsburg, died Wednesday, August 2, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center of an extended illness.

Born on December 20, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Bernie DePriest and Lena Ridens. She was a former receptionist for Wheelwright Medical Clinic, a self-employed bookkeeper, and was a member of The First United Methodist Church, Prestonsburg, and member of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 477, Wheelwright.

Her husband, Dennis Earl Blackburn preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Clara B. Bradbury of Prestonsburg; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 4, at 1 p.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Wayne Sayre officiating.

Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Gladys Blackburn were Phil Bradbury, Kevin Heslin, Ryan Heslin, Dan Wallen, Ron Wallen, Columbus Brown, Breck Hammond and Estill Carter.

Interment will be in the Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.

Charles Eugene "Charlie" Hines Jr.

Charles Eugene "Charlie" Hines Jr., 62, of Prestonsburg, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, of a sudden illness at his residence.

Born on July 29, 1938, he was the son of Dorothy Mullins and the late Charles Eugene Hines Sr. He was a retired Polygraph examiner for the Kentucky State Police, Post No. 9, in Pikeville. He was affiliated with the Fitzpatrick First Baptist Church, Prestonsburg. He was a United States Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Marshall Hines.

Other survivors include two sons, Randall Hines of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, Douglas Hines of Burlington, New Jersey; two stepsons, Stephen Frasure of Hueysville, Michael Frasure of Langley; one brother, James Richard Hines of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Carolyn Sue Stevens of Frederick, Maryland; six grandchildren and one step-granddaughter.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, August 2, at 11 a.m., at the Fitzpatrick First Baptist Church, Prestonsburg, with Rev. Jennings West officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Prestonsburg.

Arnold Rowe

Arnold Rowe, 72, died Thursday, July 22, 2000, in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw, Indiana, where he resided.

Born on November 7, 1927, in Prestonsburg, he was the son of Henry and Tina Pitts Rowe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jean Wright.

Survivors include one son, Arnold Rowe Jr. of Pierceton, Indiana; three daughters, Patricia Helton of Warsaw, Indiana, Betty Lou Bowen of Peru, Indiana and Tammy J. Higgins of Indiana; one sister, Dovie Thornsburg of Lansing, Michigan; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 25, at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru, Indiana, with the Rev. Rod Correll officiating.

Burial was in Mount Hope Cemtery, in Peru, Indiana.

Azzie Osborne

Azzie Osborne, 78, of Waverly, Ohio, formerly of McDowell, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, in Columbus, Ohio.

Born on March 9, 1922, in McDowell, he was the son of the late Pink and Corzetta Newsome Osborne. He was a retired coal miner. He attended Little Ettie Regular Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Gayheart Osborne.

Other survivors include eight sons, Dallard, Allan, Danny, Leland, Shannon, Don, Dennis, Blake, and Bruce, all of Waverly, Ohio; three daughters, Ramona Jean Lowery, Pam Murray, and Darla Osborne, all of Waverly, Ohio; one brother, Gene Osborne of Ashtabula, Ohio; and one sister, Vanzie Osborne Howell of South Shore.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 2, at noon, at Little Ettie Old Regular Baptist Church, with Carson Wright, Monroe Jones, James Tackett, Alan D. Osborne, Jason Lowery, Roger Hicks and Rufford Howell officitating.

Interment will be in the Omega Cemetery, in Waverly, Ohio, under the direction of R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, Phelps Chapel.
