Roger Lee Kestner Jr.

Roger Lee Kestner Jr., 25, Oil Springs, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at the Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.

Born on October 25, 1974, in Johnson County, he was the son of Roger Kestner Sr. and Evelyn LeMaster Kestner. He was an employee of Kelly's Radiator Shop.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Clifton Kestner.

Other survivors include his maternal grandmother, Armatha LeMaster of Paintsville; one sister, Melissa Kestner of Sitka.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 26, at 11 a.m., at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville, with Harry Neal Frisby and Roger Hill officiating.

Burial will be in Highlands Memorial Park, Staffordsville, under the direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home.

Faye Lynn Stanley

Faye Lynn Stanley, 35, of Allen, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia, following a sudden illness.

Born on February 15, 1965, in McDowell, she was the daughter of Sylvia Cole Hall Carter of Barboursville, West Virginia and the late William Jr. Hall.

She is survived by her husband, Frankie Ray (Jackie) Stanley.

Other survivors include her step-father, David Sherman Carter; two sons, Frankie Ray Stanley II and Anthony Ryan Stanley, both of Allen; three daughters, Kristi Denise Stanley, Sasha Danielle Stanley and Keisha Lynn Stanley, all of Prestonsburg; four brothers, Charles David Hall of St. Albans, West Virginia, James Raymond Hall of Barboursville, West Virginia, Douglas Jr. Hall of Ashland, William Edwin Hall of Huntington, West Virginia; two sisters, Kitty Francis Johnson and Patricia Ann Hall, both of Albion, Michigan.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 23, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Don Crisp officiating.

Burial will be in the Martin Cemetery, at Martin, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Willis R. Sparks

Willis R. Sparks, 79, of Prestonsburg, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center of an extended illness.

Born April 3, 1921, in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Alice Caudill. He was a coal miner at National Mines, Pippa Passes. He was a member of the East Point Church of Christ, a 50-year member of Zebulon Lodge F&AM, Prestonsburg; Oleika Shrine Temple, Lexington and a Scottish Rite Mason. He was also a member of the Commandery No. 48 Knights Templar, Paintsville; Chapter No. 182 Royal Arch Masons, Prestonsburg; Fred W. McKenzie Council No. 98, Paintsville; and Order of the Eastern Star, Prestonsburg.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Hyden Sparks.

Other survivors include three brothers, James W. Caudill of Auxier, McKinley Sparks of Mt. Sterling, Oakley Gene Sparks of Emma; five sisters, Pauline Wells and Mary Click, both of Prestonsburg, Peggy Branham and Sue Melvin, both of Mt. Sterling, and Dinah VanHoose of Emma.

Masonic rites will be conducted Friday at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 24, at 1 p.m., at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, with Dave Flanery officiating.

Serving as active pallbearers for the funeral of Willis R. Sparks were: Charles Hyden, Donald Hyden, Tom Cook, Onda Hunt Jr., Will Titlow, and Kevin Mewborn.

Honorary pallbearers were: John Wallen, Lloyd Edwards, Don Willis, Ruben Stephens, Calvin Gray, Fishel Conley, Tony Lyons, Gary Wright, Estil Porter and Kenneth Patton.

Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.

James S. Blair

James S. Blair, 59, of Paintsville, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Paul B. Hall Medical Center.

Born April 16, 1941, in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Grant Blair and Rushie Stambaugh Blair.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Hackworth Blair.

Other survivors include one son, James Dean Blair of Beaufort, South Carolina; two daughters, Darlene Daniels of Thealka, Rachel Dawn Mills of Paintsville; one sister, Avalee Kimbler of Columbus, Ohio; and 9 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 23, at 1 p.m., at Phelps & Son Funeral Home, at Hager Hill, with David Blackburn and Mark Ousley officiating.

Burial will be in the Sam Blair Cemetery, at Denver, under the direction of Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

Ruby Mae Hall Little

Ruby Mae Hall Little, 80, of Frenchburg, formerly of Floyd County, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at St. Claire Medical Center, Morehead.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Ray Little of McDowell, William Little of Drift, James Little of Weeksbury; two daughters, Sandra Jean Lidster of Buford, South Carolina, Teresa Lynn Little of Frenchburg; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 23, at 11 a.m., at the Melvin Church of Christ.

Burial will be in the Matthew Tackett Cemetery, at Melvin, under the direction of Randy Halsey and Son/Menifee Home for Funerals, Frenchburg.

Sophia Lea Kidd Elliott Hatcher

Sophia Lea Kidd Ellliott Hatcher, 67, of Honaker, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin.

Born on November 10, 1932, in Honaker, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Sarah Parsons Kidd. She was a member of the Honaker Church of Christ.

Survivors include three sons, Bobby Joe Elliott of Harold, Charles Elliott of Pikeville, and Dwayne Elliott of Honaker; two daughters, Betty Ann Elliott Ratliff of Honaker, and Connie Sue Justice of Harold; one brother, Edgar Kidd of Toledo, Ohio; three sisters, Betty Jo Elliott of Fallsburg, Inez Rogers of Harold, and Lois Adkins of Honaker; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 21, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Phillip Rogers, Frank Jr. Kidd and Tommy Bush officiating.

Burial was in the Kidd Family Cemetery, Honaker, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers were Bobby J. Elliott, Charles Elliott, Dwayne Elliott, Robert Ratliff, Micheal Elliot and Micheal Hall.

Honorary pallbearers were Raymond Don Ratliff, Micheal Ratliff and Randie Ratliff.

Love Parsons Akers

Love Parsons Akers, 75, of Teaberry, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at McDowell ARH, McDowell, following an extended illness.

Born on December 15, 1924, in Galveston, she was the daughter of the late Jim Bob and Jane Hamilton Parsons. She was a member of the Old Beaver Old Regular Baptist Church at Minnie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Akers.

Survivors include two sons, Ralph Akers and Daniel Akers, both of Teaberry; two daughters, Vonda Lee Oney of Columbus, Ohio, Brenda Hall of Teaberry; two brothers, Effort Parsons and Raymond Parsons, both of Grethel; one sister, Carrie Hall of Lincoln Park, Michigan; two half-sisters, Lizzie Ward and Laura Ward, both of Ohio; 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 23, at 11 a.m., at the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church, at Teaberry, with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating.

Burial will be in the Newsome Cemetery, Mink Branch, Craynor, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Seldon Dobson

Seldon Dobson, 72, of Vest, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at the U.K. Medical Center at Lexington.

Born on May 31, 1928, in Vest, he was the son of Alonzo Dobson and Lola Combs Dobson.

He is survived by his wife, Arlena Dobson.

Other survivors include four stepsons, Paul Dobson of Lexington, Billy, Richard and Beckham Dobson, all of Vest; five stepdaughters, Peggy Ratliff of Leburn, Anitra Burns and Patricia Miller of Vest, Palma Sparks of Greensburg, Indiana and Vesta Messer of Garrett; two brothers, Sheldon and Calloway Dean Dobson, both of Vest; one sister, Thelma Campbell of Dayton, Ohio; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 17, at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel, with Ricky Smith, Denzil Ratliff and Carlos Beverly officiating.

Burial was in the Dobson Cemetery, at Vest, under the direction of Hindman Funeral Services.

Tramble "Tabby" Mitchell Jr.

Tramble "Tabby" Mitchell Jr., 69, of Hunter, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at his residence.

Born on June 1, 1931, in Ligon, he was the son of Tramble Mitchell Sr., of Printer, and the late Lillian Walters Mitchell. He was a retired foreman for National Mines and an Air Force Veteran of the Korean conflict.

His wife, Rebecca Jean Meadows Mitchell, preceded him in death.

Survivors include four daughters, Sherree Marie Wright, Jeanie M. Mullins, Lisa Ann Slone and Jackie M. Meade all of Hunter; one brother, Teddy Ronald Mitchell of Shelby, Ohio; one sister, Helen Jean King of Plymouth, Ohio; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 20, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with the clergymen, Greydon Howard and Harry Hargis, officiating.

Burial was in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, at McDowell, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers were John Paul Wright, John Melvin Mullins, Gregory Slone, Charles E. Meade, John Melvin, Ryan Slone and Tyler Slone.
