Phyllis Tackett Wells
Phyllis Tackett Wells, 69, of Harold, Ky., died Sunday, August 12, 2001, at her residence at Harold, Ky., following an extended illness.
Born on April 5, 1932, in Floyd County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Haley Jones Newsome.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Asa Tackett, and second husband, Edward Wells.
Survivors include five sons, Namon Tackett and Amos Tackett, both of Harold, Ky., Wendale Tackett of Lenoir, North Carolina, Timmy Dean Tackett of Teaberry, Ky., Terry Tackett of Lexington, Ky.; three daughters, Joyce Daughtery and Delores Hall, both of Harold, Ky., Peggy Jo Miller of Jonesboro, Tennessee; three brothers, James Edward Newsome of Elyria, Ohio, Curt Newsome of Greenwich, Ohio, Gary Newsome of Harold, Ky.; one sister, Marlen Howell of Harold, Ky.; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchilderen, five step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Burnis Newsome, Paul V. Newsome, Grady Newsome, Eugene Newsome, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, August 14, 2001, at 11 a.m., at the Boldman Freewill Baptist Church, with Belmont Johnson officiating.
Burial was in the Newsome Cemetery, Mink Branch, Craynor, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the church.

William Woodrow Adams
William Woodrow Adams, 87, of East Point, Ky., passed away Sunday, August 12, 2001, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, Ky., after a brief illness.
A Floyd County native, he was the son of the late W.C. (Bill) and Angie Johnson Adams. He was a graduate of Pikeville College with a degree in teaching. He retired from Marvin Music Gulf Distributor Inc. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, a member of Zebulon Lodge No. 273, F&AM, Prestonsburg, and a member of the United Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Imogene Adams.
He is survived by two daughters, Gloria Jeanne (William) Prater of Rineyville, Ky., and Janet Carrol (Leo) Tackett of East Point, Ky.; one sister, Mary Jane Hawk of Lima, Ohio; two granddaughters, Lana Renee Mitchell of Rineyville, Ky., and Tamatha Kay (Jeff) Ratliff of East Point, Ky.; three great-grandchildren, Shae Emerson Mitchell, William Alexander Mitchell, and Matthew Charles Mitchell, all of Rineyville, Ky.
Funeral services will be conducted today (Wednesday), at 1:00 p.m. at the Burke Funeral Home (formerly Floyd Funeral Home), Water Gap Road, Prestonsburg, Kentucky, with Brother Hershel (Jimmy) Hall officiating.
Burial will be in the Baldridge Cemetery at East Point, Ky.
Arrangements are under the direction of Burke Funeral Home (formerly Floyd Funeral Home), Water Gap Road, Prestonsburg Ky.

Laura Dixie Tackett Caudill
Laura Dixie Tackett Caudill, age 78, of Martin, Ky., widow of Gaylord Caudill, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2001, at her residence.
She was born March 29, 1923, in Virgie, Ky., the daughter of the late Charles Ervin Tackett and Maudie Katherine Holbrook Tackett. She was a retired dental receptionist, and owner and operator of Tackett’s Market and G and D Food Market.
Survivors include two sons, Roger Lee Tackett of Eastern, Ky., Ricky Dane Caudill of Martin, Ky.; one daughter, Judith Annette Tackett-Jones of Warren, Mi.; two brothers, Lee Gene Tackett of Orleans, In., Ulysses Grant Tackett of Pikeville, Ky.; three sisters, Helen Ruth Tackett of Hi Hat, Ky., Pauline Lalich of Orleans, In., Dorothy Coleman of Peoria, In.; four grandchildren, Roger Dean Tackett, Anthony Lee Tackett, Beau Tackett and Chad Perry; and one great-grandchild, Tyler Tackett.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Ervin Tackett, Forrester Tackett, Donnie Morris Tackett, and one sister, Truly Bell Tackett.
Funeral services for Laura Dixie Caudill will be conducted Friday, August 14, 2001, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.

Melvin Mullins
Melvin Mullins, 81, of Hi Hat, Ky., died Wednesday, August 8, 2001, at his residence at Hi Hat, Ky., following an extended illness.
Born on July 27, 1920, at Bevinsville, Ky., he was the son of the late Harry Evans Mullins and Nancy Jane Tackett Mullins. He was a disabled coal miner, a member of Pilgrims Rest Old Regular Baptist Church, a World War II veteran, and a member of UMWA Local 5967, at McDowell, Ky.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Hall Mullins.
Other survivors include two sons, Billy James Mullins of Hi Hat, Ky. and John Melvin Mullins of Printer, Ky.; four daughters, Daisy Mae Tackett of Hi Hat, Ky., Ruby Jewell Adams of Wayland, Ky., Elizabeth Sparkman of Hi Hat, Ky. and Shelia Ann Johnson of Beaver, Ky.; one brother, Jerry David (J.D.) Mullins; one sister, Mallie Brown of Martin, Ky.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Mullins, and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 11, 2001, at 1 p.m., at the Pilgrims Rest Old Regular Baptist Church, Price, Ky., with Jimmy Dye, Clifford Williams, Red Alley, and others officiating.
Burial will be in the Mullins Family Cemetery, at Hi Hat, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Pallbearers: T. J. Mullins, Brian Tackett, Lance Sparkman, John Melvin Jr. Mullins, Don Sparkman, Arthur Adams, Mickey Darrell Mullins, and Randy Riner.
Honorary pallbearers: Billy Mullins and John Melvin Mullins.
Visitation will be at the Pilgrims Rest Old Regular Baptist Church.

Joshua Shawn Francis
Joshua Shawn Francis, age 16, of Prestonsburg, Ky., son of Shawn Phillip Francis of Garrett, Ky., and Kimberly Ann Reynolds of Prestonsburg, Ky., C.V. Reynolds, stepfather, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2001, at East Point, Ky.
He was born October 11, 1984, at Pikeville, Ky. He was a student at Prestonsburg High School, and member of the Highland Avenue Freewill Baptist Church, Prestonsburg High School football team, wrestling team, and 4-H team leader.
In addition to his father, mother, and step-father, he is survived by: cousins, Ariel Dawn Robinson of Prestonsburg, Ky., Kayla Nicole Wiley, Austin Blake Wiley, and Arrington Jade Wright, all of Allen, Ky.; aunts, Faye Wiley Wright and Tammy Francis Lafferty; uncles, Darrin Gene Wiley, Bruce Edward Wright, Christopher Francis, and Brian Francis; maternal grandparents, Doug and Judy Wiley; paternal grandparents, Sterling and Bethleen Francis; maternal great-grandparents, Maxine Stevens and Audrey Wiley.
He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandmother, Francis J. Huff.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 6, 2001, at the Prestonsburg High School Football Field, Prestonsburg, Ky., with David Garrett officiating.
Burial followed in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky.
Visitation was after 10:00 a.m. Sunday, August 5, 2001, at the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky. The body lay in state, Monday, 1:00-2:00 p.m., at the Prestonsburg High School Football Field.

Lanie Terry
Lanie Terry, age 89, of Lackey, Ky., wife of the late Earnest Terry, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2001, in the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hazard, Ky.
She was born June 12, 1912, in Magoffin County, Ky., the daughter of the late Wiley Jones and Ellen Slusher Jones. Mrs. Terry was a homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Warrens of Wayland, Ky.; one half-brother, Jackie Jones, in Michigan; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Lanie Terry were conducted Tuesday, August 7, 2001, at 11:00 a.m., in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial followed in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky., under the professional care of Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: Glennis Warrens, Donnie Hale, Jason Warrens, Raymond Lawson, and Jordan Hale.

Minnie B. Crisp
Minnie B. Crisp, age 98, of Martin, Ky., passed away Saturday, July 28, 2001, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, Ky.
She was born May 18, 1903, the daughter of the late Lee Boyd and Lou Ellen Crisp Boyd. Mrs. Crisp was a retired homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Otis Crisp of Martin, Ky.; one daughter, Margie Hale of Prestonsburg, Ky.; three brothers, John, Henry, and Luther Boyd, all of Dana, Ky.; three sisters, Goldie Conn and May Jarrell, both of Banner, Ky., and Lassie Hart of Centerline, Michigan; two grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Minnie B. Crisp were conducted on Monday, July 30, 2001, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with Benny Blankenship officiating.
Burial followed in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the funeral home.

Lula Mae Tackett Newsome
Lula Mae Tackett Newsome, 65, of Teaberry, Ky., died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at McDowell Appalachian Re-gional Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on April 28, 1936, at Craynor, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Andy Lee and Effie Jones Tackett. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elzie Newsome.
Survivors include two daughters, Rita Mathews of Ligon, Ky., Buffie Hall of Virgie, Ky.; two brothers, Winston Tackett and Tony Tackett, both of Teaberry, Ky.; two sisters, Maggie Howell and Cassie Tackett, both of Teaberry, Ky.; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Clifford Tackett.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at 11 a.m., at the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church, Teaberry, Ky., with ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the church, with services being held, nightly.
