Ellen Herald Horn
Ellen Herald Horn, 91, of West Prestonsburg, the widow of Russell E. Horn, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at the Mountain Manor Nursing Home in Prestonsburg.
She was born May 4, 1910, at West Prestonsburg, the daughter of the late William and Allie Calhoun Herald. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church, and a member of Adah Chapter No. 24, Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Palestine M. Horn of Flatwoods; one brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Josephine Herald of Prestonsburg; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Michael and Deanna Lynn Robinson; one great-granddaughter, Kathryn Anne Robinson; and two nephews, Gary T. Herald and Larry D. Herald.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2001, at 11 a.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with the Rev. Lorie Vannucci and Rev. Manford Fannin officiating.
Burial will follow in the Porter Cemetery in Prestonsburg.
Visitation is at the new location of Floyd Funeral Home.
All arrangements are under the direction of the Floyd Funeral Home, Prestonsburg.

Esta “Cooch” Burchett Crum
Esta “Cooch” Burchett Crum, 92, of Prestonsburg, the widow of Joe Crum, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at the Saint Joseph’s Hospice Care Center in Lexington.
She was born February 26, 1909, at Prestonsburg, to the late W. G. and Julie Hubbard Burchett. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Highland Avenue Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, John (Charlotte) Crum of Prestonsburg; four daughters, Faye (Eugene) Fisher and Edith (O. V.) Hollis, both of Wapakoneta, Oh, Peggy (Kenneth) Pointer of Lexington, and Jackie (Tom) Wells of Lawrenceburg; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2001, at 1 p.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clifford Austin and Rev. Donald Crisp officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, July 19th, at 5 p.m., at the new location of Floyd Funeral Home, and will continue after 10 a.m., on Friday, until time of services.
All arrangements are under the direction of the Floyd Funeral Home, of Prestonsburg.

Henry “Josh” Nichols
Henry “Josh” Nichols, 82, Washington Street, Wapakoneta, Ohio, died at 1:45 p.m., Monday, July 9, 2001, at his residence.
He was born December 29, 1918, in Prestonsburg, Ky., a son of the late Tobe and Martha Stricklin Nichols.
He was a World War II, U.S. Army veteran.
On May 25, 1946, he married Ruby Roop, who survives.
He also is survived by two sons, Donnie L. (Susan) Nichols of Wapakoneta, and Terry D. (Elaine) Nichols of Columbus; a daughter, Sheila (William) Doering of Buckland; a brother, Preston Nichols of Prestonsburg; four grandchildren: Natalie Perry, Matthew, Katie and Angela Nichols; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Clark.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 12, at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Stephen Smitley officating.
Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta, where military graveside services were conducted by the Wapakoneta Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Bertha Caudill
Bertha Caudill, age 95, of Ecorse, Michigan, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Manion Manor Nursing Home, in Riverview Michigan.
Born October 22, 1905, in Garrett, she was the daughter of the late John Moore and Zella Scott.
She is survived by one son, Iveria Caudill; and one brother, Edd Moore.
Other survivors include five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 9, 10 a.m., at the Little Ida Church, Ecorse, Michigan.
Interment was in Ferndale Cemetery under the direction of Ballheim Funeral Home, Ecorse, Michigan.

Curtis R. Layne
Curtis R. Layne, age 84, of Salyersville, Ky., formerly of Martin, Ky., passed away Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the Paul B. Hall Medical Center, Paintsville, Ky.
He was born January 27, 1917, the son of the late Horace Layne and Sarah DeRossett Layne. Mr. Layne was a retired coal miner and a member of the Fritz Church of God in Jesus Name of Fritz, Ky., and a member of the UMWA.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Eugene Layne of Quincy, Mich., Eddie Dean Layne of Albion, Mich.; one daughter, Rose Patrick of Salyersville, Ky., 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Scott E. Layne, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services for Curtis R. Layne were conducted Saturday, July 7, 2001, at 2 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with the clergymen, David Collett, Larry Patrick, and Billy Ratliff, officiating.
Burial followed in the Samons Cemetery, Martin, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the funeral home.

Annis Boling
Annis Boling, 92, of Garrett, Ky., died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born on June 15, 1909, in Knott County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Ballard Hunter and Amanda Cox Hunter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Boling. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one brother, Luther Hunter of Garrett, Ky.; one sister, Elsie Thornsbury of Garrett, Ky.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, French Hunter and Bert Hunter; and two sisters, Violet Cox and Mable Martin.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 12, 2001, at 10 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with Sterlin and Bethel Bolen officiating.
Burial will be in the Hop Cox Cemetery, Knott County, Garrett, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation will be at the Funeral Home, after noon on Wednesday, and after 9 a.m., Thursday, where friends may call.

Pearl Spivey Meade
Mrs. Pearl Spivey Meade, age 94, of Pine Hills, Morehead, Ky., passed away Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the St. Claire Medical Center, Morehead, Ky.
She was born on January 5, 1907, at Bluefield, W. Va., the daughter of the late Charlie and Alpha Sargent Sydney. She was formerly employed as a cook at Howard Johnson’s in Michigan, and worked at the Willow Run Bomber Plant, in Willow Run, Michigan. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Her husband, William Madison Meade, preceded her in death on October 6, 1976.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Charles T. Meade and Joseph P. Meade.
Survivors include one son, Claude Meade of Morehead, Ky.; four daughters, Douglas Sanders of Weeskbury, Ky., Gertrude Burke of Taylor, Mich., Olga McDavid of Walker, La., Betty Cardnell of Homosassa Springs, Fla.; one brother, Clyde Butler Spivey of Adrian, Mich.; one sister, Katherine Owens of Lakeland, Fla.; 28 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 9, 2001, at the Church of Christ, Lancer, Ky., with Rev. Benny Blankenship officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky.
Visitation was in the Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead, Ky., and at the church at Lancer.
Grandchildren served as pallbearers.

Mae Gray
Mae Gray, age 87, of Kite, KY., the widow of Richard “Dick” Gray, passed away July 5, 2001, at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, McDowell, KY., following a short illness. She was born November 24, 1913, in Little Paint, KY., the daughter of the late James Stephenson and Mary Margaret Auxier Stephenson.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Finley Gray, Asle, TX.; Timothy Wayne Gray, Kite, KY.; seven daughters, Janice Marie Johnson, Fruitland Park, FL.; Margaret Howell, Estill, KY.; Jeanette Mosley, Shelby, OH.; Loretta Tennant, Stillwater, MN; Virginia Salyer, Willard, OH.; Juanita Lafferty, Prestonsburg, KY.; Elizabeth Caudill, Anco, KY.; 26 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mae Gray will be conducted, Sunday, July 8, 2001, at 2 p.m., at the Martin Branch Freewill Baptist Church, Estill, KY., with Clergymen Buddy Jones and James “Red” Morris officiating.
Burial will follow in the Martin Cemetery, Martin, KY., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, KY.
Visitation is after 12 noon, Friday, at the church.
