Clarence Edward Moore (Hudy)
Clarence Edward Moore (Hudy), 64, of Garrett, Ky., died Friday, June 22, 2001, at his residence in Knott County, following an extended illness.
Born on May 22, 1937, at Knott County, Ky., he was the son of the late Coet Moore and Francis Hale Moore. He was a disabled coal miner.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Combs Moore.
Other survivors include four sons, Clarence Edward Moore Jr., Frank Moore, Charles Moore, and Jessie Moore, all of Garrett, Ky.; five daughters, Jeanetta Hoover, Ogie Moore, Marsha Moore, and Jane Hicks, all of Garrett, Ky., and Geneva Moore of Martin, Ky.; two brothers, Harold Ray Moore of Tennessee, and Cluet Moore of Arizona; seven sisters, Edna Conley, Judy Moore, Ilene Scott, and Mable Hall, all of Garrett, Ky., and Laney Knott, Cleo Daniels, and Clara Hall, all of Ohio; and 18 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert James Moore and Lawrence Moore; and one sister, Lavertta Reeves.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at 2 p.m., a the Rock Fork Freewill Baptist Church, Rock Fork, Ky., with Wendell Crager, Bethel Bolen and Red Morris officiating.
Burial was in the Moore Cemetery, Chaffins Branch, Garrett, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the Rock Fork Freewill Baptist Church in Knott County.

Jake Risner
Jake Risner, age 83, of New London, Ohio, died Sunday, June 24, at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, after a long illness.
Mr. Risner was born May 3, 1918, in Thacker, West Virginia, son of the late Adam and Julie (Prater) Risner. He lived in Magoffin and Floyd County, Ky., and moved to New London in 1941.
He was a truck driver for the former E. Bigelow Tile of New London, Gordon Moore, Brada Miller, and also the Ohio Department of Transportation. He was a former auxiliary and part-time police officer for the Village of New London, and with his wife, had managed London-Town Apartments of New London.
Mr. Risner is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ivellea (Hall) Risner; a daughter, Rosalie Kidd of New London; two sons and daughters-in-law, Waldean and Susann Risner of New London, and Larry Gene and Gail Risner of Norwalk; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Martha Clark of Kentucky, Mary Chandler of Washington, and Della Dennis of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Leon Risner in 1938, and a sister, Agnes Hall.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 27, 11 a.m., at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London, with Elder Bill Lechene officiating.
Burial will be in the Ashland County Memorial Park.
Visitation was at the Funeral Home.

Millard Samons
Millard Samons, age 87, of Martin, Ky., passed away on Friday, June 22, 2201, in Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Ky., after an extended illness.
He was born on October 28, 1913, at Martin, Ky., the son of the late Bill and Amy Crum Samons.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nollie Conn Samons.
He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Prestonsburg Church of Christ. Baptized, August 1933, on Arkansas Creek.
Survivors include: One son, Julian Samons of Salyersville, Ky.; two daughters, Opal Samons and Lilly Mullins, both of Martin, Ky.; one brother, Hurley Samons of Martin, Ky., and three sisters, Judie Samons, Ines Samons and Eva Hayden, all of Augusta, Ga.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 25, 2001, at 2 p.m., in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, at Martin, Ky., with Bennie Blankenship officiating.
Burial was in the Samons Family Cemetery at Martin, Ky., under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: Larry Mullins Jr., Billy Mullins, Nick Lumpkins, Green Samons, Millard Ray Conn, and Nick Samons.

Julia Sweeney
Julia Sweeney, 74, of Prestonsburg, Ky., died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Riverview Manor Nursing Home, following an extended illness.
Born on September 13, 1926, in Floyd County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Starlin and Mary Goodman Sweeney.
Survivors include one brother, Frank Sweeney of Plant City, Florida; and one sister, Maggie Allen of Allen, Ky.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, George Sweeney, Eddie Sweeney, Russell Sweeney, Cecil Sweeney and Fred Sweeney; and three sisters, Stella Sweeney, Christine Sweeney and Pauline Slone.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at 2 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with Manford Fannin officiating.
Burial was in the Richmond Cemetery, Prestonsburg, Ky., under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation was at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home

Ralph A. Buerkley Jr.
Ralph A. Buerkley Jr., 36, of Pleasant Ridge Rd., Maysville, Ky., died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington, Ky.
Born in Mason County, Ky., on May 8, 1965, he was the son of Ralph A. Buerkley Sr., and Jean Franklin Buerkley, of 4262 Pleasant Ridge, Rd., Maysville, Ky. He was an employee of NAPA as a partsman. He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Union Church.
He is survived by his wife, Drema (Derossett) Buerkley.
Other survivors include his children, Alyssa Buerkley, Joshua Clay and Nick Clay, all at home; one brother, David Buerkley of Maysville, Ky.; one nephew, Rodney Buerkley.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 27, at 2 p.m., at the Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville, Ky.
Burial will be in the Green Acres Cemetery, Washington, Ky.
Visitation was at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Shannon Greer
Shannon Greer, 74, of 555 Mays Br. Rd., Prestonsburg, Ky., died Friday, June 22, 2001, at his residence.
He was born November 4, 1926, at Johns Creek (Floyd County), Ky., the son of the late Roby Greer and Arminta Setser Greer. He was former owner and operator of J. S. Greer Meat Co., Prestonsburg.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Prestonsburg; a member of Zebulon Masonic Lodge No. 273, Prestonsburg; the Scottish Rite, Lexington, Ky.; a Shriner of Oleika Temple, in Lexington, Ky.; a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Marie Osborne Greer.
Other survivors include one daughter, Betty Jo (Dr. Alan) Hyden of 308 Brandy Keg Est., Prestonsburg; one brother, Dewey Greer of Prestonsburg; three grandchildren, Seth Hyden (Amy), Josh Hyden and Kate Hyden.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 24, 2001, at 2 p.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Randy Polk officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, Ky., under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Prestonsburg.
Active pallbearers: Josh Hyden, Seth Hyden, Alan Hyden, John Greer Hunt, John Earl Hunt, Robert Reed, Robbie Risner, James DeRossett, and Glenn David May.

Glema Kathleen Roberts
Glema Kathleen Roberts, 69, of Virgie, Ky., died Monday, June 25, 2001.
Born on October 12, 1931, in Pike County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Billie Hall and Myrtle Bentley Hall. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Russell Roberts Sr.
Other survivors include one son, Paul Edward Roberts of Virgie, Ky.; one daughter, Carolyn Risner of Canon, Georgia; one stepson, Russell Roberts Jr., of Meta, Ky.; two brothers, Noble Hall of Indianapolis, Ind., Glenn Hall of Elyria, Oh.; one sister, Irene Looney of Elyria, Oh.; nine grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Eugene Good.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 28, 2001, at 11 a.m., at the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church, with Sonny Miracle officiating.
Burial will be in the Roberts Cemetery, Jonancy, Ky., under the direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation is after 6 p.m., with nightly service at 7 p.m.

James Edward Goff
James Edward Goff, 83, Eastpoint Dr., husband of Velma Bell Goff, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at St. Joseph East, after a short illness. Born September 21, 1917, in Ohio Co., KY, son of the late James Presley Goff and Jennie Lee Tichenor Goff. He was a graduate of Centertown High School and Bowling Green Business College. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army and a charter member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. He began working for Oilwell Supply Division of US Steel Corp. in 1938, in Owensboro, Ky. He worked at different sites in Chicago, Olney, Centralia and Salem, IL. He also worked in Evansville, IN, and Prestonsburg, KY. His last position was as a store manager in Carmi, IL. He retired in 1981 to Lexington, after forty-three years with Oilwell. He was an avid gardener and in the last several years, he grew tuberoses that he sold to local florists. Surviving besides his wife of fifty-seven years is son, Wayne Goff, Evansville, IN; two daughters, Rita Goff Calhoun and her busband, Don, Lexington, and Dixie Goff, Springfield, TN; two grandchildren, Lisa Calhoun Sorrell, and her husband, Dodd, Winchester, KY; and Kevin Goff, Evansville, IN; great-grandson, Jacob Dodd Sorrell. Funeral services, 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Jimm Crum officiating. Visitation 5-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial in Paradise Cemetery, Salem, IL, Thursday, 11 a.m. Contributions are suggested to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 4451 Winchester Rd., Lexington, KY 40506.

Patsy R. Bryant
Patsy R. Bryant, 59, of Albion, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at her home.
She was born July 12, 1941, to Lonza and Maxie (Casebolt) Burke in Virgie, Kentucky.
On August 22, 1959, she married Earl Bryant, he preceded her in death in 1989. Since 1977 Patsy was a nursing home administrator for an Adult Foster Care Home in Albion. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and bird watching.
Survivors include: Four daughters, Annette and Richard Ewers of Albion, Sue and Brett Ward of Springport, Gail and Duane Gollnick of Reading, Michelle Bryant of Albion; four sons, Tony and Georgia Bryant of Climax, Allen Bryant of Portage, Dale and Melissa Bryant of Springport and Marcus Bryant of Albion; two sisters, Fontella Mann of Homer and Ann Izzard of Litchfield; six brothers, Jerrel D. Burke of Homer, Grover Burke of Coldwater, Lonza Burke Jr. of Albion, Garner Burke of Quincy, Craig Mullins of Albion, Gary Newsome of Homer; and 13 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandchild, three brothers and one son.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 16, 2001, 1 p.m., at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home Inc., 811 Finley Drive, Albion, with Reverend Tom Duff officiating.
Interment followed at St. Joe Cemetery in Clarendon Township.
