Sam G. DeRossett
Sam G. DeRossett, 87, of Lima, Ohio, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
Born on September 21, 1913, in Prestonsburg, he was the son of the late John B. DeRossett and Julia Ousley DeRossett. He was a coal miner, and was retired from Clark Equipment. He was a member of the Eagles Arie No. 370, and Lima Moose Lodge.
Survivors include three sons, Sam DeRossett of Indianapolis, Indiana, Fred DeRossett of Lyons, New York, John DeRossett II of Newark, New York; one step-son, Jack Wiley of Taylor, Michigan; three daughters, Deloris Jean Campbell of Lima, Ohio, Bessie Mae Swartz of Florissant, County, Sandra Sue Bradley of Prestonsburg; two brothers, Sol DeRossett of Lakeview, Ohio, Harold DeRossett of Spring Arbor, Michigan; two sisters, Annie Jacobs and Shirley Kennedy, both of Rushsylvania, Ohio, 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, seven step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 15, at 2 p.m., at the Siferd Westwood Chapel, with Rev. Howard M. Allison officiating.
Burial was in the Preston Cemetery, Alger, Ohio.

Harry Denton Trimble
Harry Denton Trimble, 37, of Daytona, Beach, Florida, formerly of Canada, died Monday, March 12, 2001, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born on October 13, 1963, in Pike County, he was the son of Madonna Francisco Trimble of Lexington, and the late Harry Trimble. He was employed as a produce manager at Albertsons Food, and was a member of the Sydney Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Brenda Culpepper of Raleigh, North Carolina and Harriette Gill of Lexington.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 16, 1 p.m., at the J. W. Call Funeral Home, with Gary May officiating.
Burial will be in the Hunt Family Cemetery at Harold.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Thacker, Joe Thornsbury, Chris Williamson, Ed Williamson, Greg Williamson and David Copley.

Michelle M. Fouts
Michelle M. Fouts, 35, of Justice, Illinois, formerly of Kite, died Sunday, March 11, 2001.
She was born January 22, 1966, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Drax and Opal Fouts of Justice, Illinois. She was a teacher for Joliet school district No. 204, a 1984 graduate of Maria High School, a 1988 graduate of U.I.C., a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Illinois Committee of Teachers of Mathematics, and Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandmother, Ettie Fouts of Kite.
Graveside services will be conducted, Friday, March 16, at 11 a.m., at the Ben Hall Cemetery at Kite, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Martin.

D. C. Baker
D. C. Baker, 80, of Lackey, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, following an extended illness.
He was born February 17, 1921, in Garrett, the son of the late Dave Baker and Ruthie Boyd Baker. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Hugh Holbrook Mining, a member of the United Steel Workers, the AFL No. 181, the Garrett Chapter of DAV, a U.S. Army World War II veteran, and a member of the Hueysville Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie Horne Baker.
Other survivors include five sons, Paul B. Baker of Wayland, Walter Ray Baker, Ronnie “Moose” Baker and Rodney D. Baker, all of Lackey, Kenneth Lamarr Baker of Printer; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 14, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, at Martin, with Clergymen Chester Varney and Buddy Jones officiating.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Cemetery, at Ivel.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of D. C. Baker were Paul Baker Jr., Jason Baker, Rodney Baker, Ronnie “Moose” Baker, Walter Baker, David Baker, Greg Horne and Tony Conley.
Honorary pallbearers were Chalmer Baker, Paul Baker, Kenny Baker, Paul Mullins, Barney Ring, Johnny Ray, Austin Shelton, and Greg Caudill.

Ernest Sexton
Ernest Sexton, 80, of Litt Carr, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on March 27, 1920, in Letcher County, he was the son of the late Sam and Martha Kelly Sexton. He was a disabled coal miner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Centers Sexton.
Survivors include six sons, Ernest Sexton Jr., of Neon, Eugene Sexton of North Vernon, Indiana, Eddie Sexton of Garrett, Donnie Sexton of Columbus, Indiana, Ronnie Sexton of Kite, Lonnie Sexton of Litt Carr; two daughters, Marlene Callahan of Viper, Janice Ann Waltermire of Columbus, Indiana; two brothers, Lenville Sexton of Colson, Willis Sexton of Detroit, Michigan; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 8, at 11 a.m., at the Reynolds Fork Old Regular Baptist Church, at Mallie, with Bordis Slone, Paul Watson and Squire Watts officiating.
Burial was in the Hale Family Cemetery, at Mallie, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.

Katherine Cooley Prater
Katherine Cooley Prater, 68, of Hueysville, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin.
Born on April 29, 1932, in Brush Creek, she was the daughter of the late Oak and Rose Cooley.
She is survived by her husband, Murl Prater.
Other survivors include two sons, Bruce Alan Prater and Daryl F. Prater of Hueysville; three brothers, Toby Cooley and Dorlin Cooley, both of Hueysville, and Irish Cooley of Hippo; two sisters, Helen Prater of Indiana, and Geneva Prater of Hueysville; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 14, 3 p.m., at Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Jerry Manns and Paul Rice officiating.
Burial will be in the Cooley Cemetery, at Hueysville.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Katherine Cooley Prater were Lewis Collins, Greg Cooley, Arnold Prater, Roger Prater, George Ousley and Rick Prater.

Oscar Allen
Oscar Allen, 81, of Prestonsburg, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at the Highland Regional Medical Center.
He was born December 22, 1919, at Prestonsburg, the son of the late Melvin and Lora “Wright” Allen. He was a sign erector with May Sign Company, and later was a maintenance worker with Pikeville College, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Venelia Sammons Allen.
Other survivors include one son, Steve Allen of Prestonsburg; three daughters, Sharon Litz of Florence, and Margaret Allen and Linda Wooten, both of Prestonsburg; one brother, Taggett Allen of Warsaw, Indiana; one sister, Georgia Allen of Warsaw, Indiana; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 14, at 1 p.m., at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with Evangelist Bennie Blankenship officiating.
Burial will be in the Gethsemane Gardens at Auxier.
Pallbearers will be Jason Litz, David Litz, Ronald Wooten, Rod Wooten, Mark Allen and James Allen.

Sadie O. Ratliff
Sadie O. Ratliff, 96, of Allen, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at her residence.
She was born March 10, 1905, in Martin, the daughter of the late Billy Lou and Cristina Martin Osborne. She was a member of the Pleasant Home Baptist Church at Water Gap.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Ratliff.
She is survived by four daughters, Dixie L. Hyden of Martin, Treva C. Martin of Prestonsburg, Wanda L. Caudill and Barbara R. Tackett, both of Allen; one brother, Barnabas Osborne of Georgia; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 15, 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Mark Tackett officiating.
Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Sadie O. Ratliff were Robert Marshall, Alan Hyden, Mike Martin, Tim Martin, Ron Caudill, Mark Tackett, Joe Hyden and Ken Martin.
Honorary pallbearers were Stacy Marshall, Josh Hyden, Seth Hyden, Tyler Burke, Josiah Allen, Terri Allen, Stephen Allen, Alan Martin, Ben Martin, Ryan Martin, John Mark Tackett, Grant Martin, Chase Martin and Paul Wiant.

Carney Junior Adkins
Carney Junior Adkins, 78, of Pikeville, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
Born on June 20, 1922, in Pike County, he was the son of the late Mary Meade and Bob Adkins. He was a retired coal miner, a member of the Cowpen Freewill Baptist Church, and a disabled American veteran of World War II.
Other survivors include five sons, Terry Adkins and Clancy Adkins, both of Pikeville, Donnie Adkins of Raccoon, Ronnie Adkins of Hurricane Creek, Dennis Adkins of St. Louis, Missouri; three daughters, Beulah Branham of Dry Fork of Shelby, Judy Slone of Betsy Layne, Mary Ellen Smith of Johnson City, Tennessee; two brothers, Luther Adkins of Hurricane Creek, Everett Adkins of Toler Creek; three sisters, Ruby Tulip of Los Angeles, California, Opal Boyd of Pikeville, and Gracie Wilburn of Betsy Layne, 14 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Sunday, March 11, at 11 a.m., at the Cowpen Freewill Baptist Church, with Wendell Robert Smith officiating.
Burial will be in the Adkins Cemetery, on Hurricane Road, Pikeville, with DAV rites by Johns Creek Chapter 166.
Active pallbearers will be Anthony Slone, Mike Slone, Donnie Lee Adkins, Josh Adkins, Steven Adkins, Timmy Adkins, and Terry Adkins Jr.
