Graveside services were held Sunday, March 6, 3 p.m. at the Young-Lemaster cemetery in Lowmansville, for Shane Allen Lemaster, 40, of Prestonsburg, who passed away Thursday, March 3.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Timothy E. Newsome
1960-2016
Funeral services were held Monday, March 7, 11 a.m. at the Father’s House of Prayer for Timothy E. Newsome, 55, of Sitka, who passed away Thursday, March 3 at Pikeville Hospital.
Burial was in the Lakeview cemetery at Staffordsville.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Delores Sword Woody
1933-2016
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, April 16, 11 a.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Delores Sword Woody, 82, of Tutor Key, who passed away Wednesday, April 13 at her residence.
Mrs. Woody was born Aug. 23, 1933 in Floyd County, daughter of the late Jim Bob Sword and Nola Blevins Sword. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Woody (Sept. 23, 2015); two brothers, Jim and Charles Sword; and one sister, Sylvia Six.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Keith Woody and (wife Katie) of Tutor Key; two sisters, Daphyne McNamee and (husband Ronnie) of Grove City, Ohio; Elsie Glandon and (husband Doc) of Chillicothe, Ohio; one grandson, Chad Woody and (wife Felicia); two great-grandsons, Logan and Dalton Woody; two sisters-in-law, Sue Sword and Midge Sword; two brothers-in-law, Darryl Woody and Charlie Six. A host of nieces and nephews also survive along with a special friend and caretaker Garnet Armstrong.
Delores was a member of the Wheelwright Free Will Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was retired from the Floyd County School System where she taught for 32 years.
A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 in the Chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville. Harry Neal Frisby and Louie Ferrari will officiate.
Friends may visit the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. on Friday.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Appalachian Hospice by contacting the funeral home at (606) 789-8989.

Windell ‘Nig’ Blanton
1923-2016
Funeral services will held Friday, April 15, 11 a.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church on Third Street, Paintsville, for Windell “Nig” Blanton, 92, of Paintsville, who passed away Monday, April 11 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Mr. Blanton was born Oct. 27, 1923 in Lawrence County, son of the late Dock and Verna Crace Blanton. He was a World War II veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was also preceded in death by one son, Bobby Blanton; one daughter, Sandra Abrams; two brothers, Jim Crace and Hershell Blanton; one sister, Juanita Horn; and one grandchild, Scotty Abrams.
Surviving are his wife, Blanche Holbrook Blanton; three sons, John Michael (Teresa) Blanton of Grove City, Ohio, Terry Windell Blanton of Paintsville, and Brian David (Amy) Blanton of Dayton, Ohio; four daughters, Debbie Blanton of Paintsville, Judy (Jimmy) Frazier of Staffordsville, Barb VanHoose of Paintsville, and Nikki (Jessie) McCarty of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; one son-in-law, Sam Abrams; one brother, Robert Blanton of Paintsville; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by Mike Blanton, with burial to follow in the Staffordsville Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to Community Hospice “In Memory of Sandra Abrams” by contacting the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, (606) 789-8989.

Bill Burga
1923-2016
Bill Burga, of Hager Hill, Ky., age 92, passed away on March 18, 2016, after a brief illness. Bill was born Oct. 9, 1923, the son of Thomas Monroe Burga and Polly Morgan Clark Burga, who resided on John’s Creek, in Floyd County, Ky.
Bill has nine siblings, being Tom, Ollie, Myrtle, Lucy, Robert, Reca, Minnie, Mary Gertrude, and William. Both parents and all siblings preceded him in death. Especially grievous was the death of his mother in 1924, while Bill was still an infant. His father never remarried.
Bill was a veteran of World War II, wherein he saw combat beginning in Italy, and then in the south of France. He served with both valor and suffering as part of 142d Infantry Regiment of the U. S. Army. He was first wounded in some of the most violent combat of the war in Italy; recovered from his wounds and was returned to the front line with his regiment, which was then in the south of France.
There, he would again be wounded in combat; receiving such injuries to his body that he required may surgeries to save his left leg and to sustain his life. His injuries brought him much pain, which he fought to overcome every day of his life. He reached the rank of Sergeant, Company B, 142d Infantry Regiment of the United States Army.
For Bill’s wounds, our nation awarded him two purple hearts and for his valor in combat, our nation awarded him both the Bronze Star and the Silver Star. He was officially discharged honorably on August 25, 1945.
Bill was twice married, his first marriage ending in divorce. By first wife, Alta Osborne Burga, he had three children who were raised by their mother in her home in Wheelwright, Ky., being Billy Burga Jr. (Kathy) of Grand Forks, ND, Thomas D. Burga (Dreama) of Beach Park, Ill, and Elizabeth Ann Burga Turner (Arnold Jr.) of Prestonsburg. By those children he has five grandchildren, Arnold Brent Turner, James Ryan Turner, Rhonda Rena Burga Molinaro, Carrie Elizabeth Burga Kidder, and Jeffrey Thomas Burga, as well as five great-grandchildren, Arnold William Blake Turner, Angelique Celeste Turner, Adeline Hope Turner, Isaiah James Turner, and Stefanie Lee Molinaro.
In 1952, he married Estelle Ward George, who at that time had eight children of her own. Bill took them and raised them as his own, giving them both support and love. Estelle and two of those step-children, Patricia Ann Lowe and Ray George preceded Bill in death.
He is survived by four step-sons, William George (Ann Mae) of Laura, Ohio, Roger George (Ramona) of Covington, Ohio, Jimmy Douglas George (Karen) of Brazonia, Texas, and David George (Rhonda) of Bradford, Ohio; step-daughters, Clara Jean Howard (Dean) of Jamestown, Ohio, and Kay Grosnickle of Springboro, Ohio; as well as 19 step-grandchildren, and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
Bill’s working years were as a coal miner and foreman, primarily for Inland Steel and Bailey Mining Company of Wheelwright, Ky.
He was a member of the Shriner’s and most importantly a member of the Auxier Free Will Baptist Church of Auxier, Ky. He loved his church and leaves behind hundreds of brothers and sisters in Christ that loved him and also mourn his passing but rejoice in that he is now with his Lord.
Officiating his funeral serves at the church on March 23, 2016 were the Reverends Bobby Joe Spencer and Arnold Turner Jr. Burial followed at the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Ky.

Paul Edward Caudill
1938-2016
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 10, 2 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Paul Edward Caudill, 77, of Hager Hill, who passed away Thursday, April 7 at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Caudill was born July 23, 1938 in Johnson County, son of the late Monroe and Alta Blair Caudill. He was Leadman at America Standard.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Sturgill Caudill; three brothers, Robert, Randolph, and Raleigh Caudill; and one sister, Alice Arms.
Surviving are one son, Christopher (Terina) Caudill of Hager Hill; and grandchild, Ashley (Adam) Butler of Hager Hill; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The service was officiated by Christopher Caudill, Adam Butler and Delmar Hall, with burial in the Caudill cemetery at Denver.
Arrangements under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Mabel Daniel
1919-2016
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 13, 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Mabel Daniel, 96, of Paintsville, who passed away Sunday, April 10 at Pikeville Medical Center.
Mrs. Daniel was born Dec. 30, 1919 in Logan County, W. Va., daughter of the late L. C. and Lena Carter Pack. She was a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lafe Daniel; and one daughter, Janie Sue Daniel Dunn.
Surviving are one son, Donald E. (Gayle) Daniel of Paintsville; one sister, Grace (Willis) Daniel of Middletown, Ohio; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by James Kelly Caudill and Larry Smith, with burial in the Isom Daniel Family cemetery at River.

Fannie Castle White
1939-2016
Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 16, 11 a.m. at the Castle Family cemetery at Thealka, for Fannie Castle White, 76, of Spokane, Wash., who passed away recently in Spokane.
