Linda Jean Bolden
1947-2013
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, 11 a.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Linda Jean Bolden, 66, of Flat Gap, who passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15.
Mrs. Bolden was born May 15, 1947 in Wheelwright, daughter of the late Bernard and Elizabeth Preston Branham. She was a substance abuse counselor with Serenity Lodge.
Surviving are her husband, Richard Bolden; one son, Phillip Edward (Melissa) Farris of Norfolk. Va.; one daughter, June (Lewood) Davis of Harrisburg, Va.; four brothers, Phillip Branham of Chapmanville, W. Va., Randall Branham of Paintsville, Gary Branham of Boons Camp, and Keith Branham of Flat Gap; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 18, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the chapel.
The service will be officiated by James Roger VanHoose, with burial to follow in the Old Friendship Memorial cemetery at Williamsport.
Arrangements under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

John Walter Thompson
1981-2013
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2 p.m. at the Hammond Creek Free Will Baptist Church for John Walter Thompson, 32, of Whitehouse, who passed away Thursday, Oct. 10.
Mr. Thompson was born Dec. 19, 1981 in Lawrence County, son of Terry Edward Tackett and Sheila Dee Sites, both of Whitehouse. He was a coal mine roof bolter.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Whitney Setser; four sons, Logan and Chase Thompson, and Gavin Setser, all of Staffordsville, and John W. Thompson II of Van Lear; four brothers, Andy L. Tackett of Whitehouse, Cole R. Sites and Nike B. Sites, both of Louisville, and Todd A. Sites of Paintsville; one sister, Brittany Burchwell of Whitehouse.
The service will be officiated by C. W. VanHoose and Isaac Rowland, with burial to follow in the Tackett cemetery at Hammond.
Arrangements under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Betty K. Daniel
1925-2013
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 14, 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Betty K. Daniel, of Paintsville, who passed away Saturday, Oct. 12 at Mountain Manor Nursing Home of Paintsville.
Mrs. Daniel was born April 27, 1925 in Johnson County, daughter of the late John N. and Grace Plummer Ward. She was a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William T. Daniel; three brothers, and five sisters.
Surviving are one son, Jerry Daniel of Paintsville; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Steve Rose, with burial in the Ward cemetery at Offutt.
Arrangements under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Willis Hess ‘Willie’ Davis
1930-2013
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16, 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Willis Hess “Willie” Davis, 83, of Wabash, Ind., who passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9 at his residence.
Mr. Davis was born July 24, 1930 in Johnson County, son of the late Proctor and Ora Hess Davis. He was retired from General Tire, and a U. S. Army veteran. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Deloris Estelle Williams Davis.
Surviving are two sons, Donald (Elvira) Davis of LaFontaine, Ind., and Ronald (Brenda) Davis of South Point, Ohio; two daughters, Debra (James) Bidwell and Kimberly Campbell, both of Wabash; four sisters, Jane Cronan and Billie Williamson, both of Louisville, Betty Fawcett of Prestonsburg, and Sue Cooper of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother, Jim (Fran) Davis of Hurricane, W. Va.; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Johnson County Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville.
Arrangements under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Verlie Wheeler VanHoose
1924-2013
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 15, 11 a.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Verlie Wheeler VanHoose, 88, of Paintsville, who passed away Saturday, Oct. 12.
Mrs. VanHoose was born Oct. 18, 1924 at Whitehouse, daughter of the late Lenvil and Nellie Booth Wheeler. She was a member of the Friendship Primitive Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Luther VanHoose; one son, Roger; one daughter, Brenda; and one granddaughter, Carolyn.
Surviving are one son, Luther David VanHoose of Paintsville; one daughter, Gwen Travis of Hager Hill; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Elder Michael Elswick, with burial in the Wheeler cemetery at Whitehouse.
Arrangements under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Wade Carrol Salyer
1931-2013
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 11, 1 p.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel for Wade Carrol Salyer, 82, of Paintsville, who passed away Monday, Oct. 7 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Mr. Salyer was born Aug. 24, 1931 at Barnetts Creek, son of the late Glenn and Ernestine McCloud Salyer.
The service will be officiated by the Rev. Larry Blair, with burial to follow in the Johnson County Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville.
Arrangements under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home.

Maggie Dollarhide
1938-2013
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 11, 2 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Maggie Dollarhide, 75, of Van Lear, who passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Pikeville Medical Center.
Mrs. Dollarhide was born Nov. 5, 1938 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Ira and Pearl Sluss Spears. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John R. Dollarhide.
Surviving are one son, Billy Dollarhide of Van Lear; three daughters, Mary Mitchell of Wabash, Ind., Joann Cantrell of Van Lear, and Clara Booth of Paintsville; seven brothers, Johnny Spears, Jimmy Spears, Doug Spears, and Glen Spears, all of Wabash, George Spears of Paintsville, Bill Spears, and Abbie Spears of Virginia; three sisters, Irene Hook of Van Lear, Virgie Porter of Boons Camp, and Goldie Moore of Wabash, Ind. seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by Manford Fannin, with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville.

Alka Mae George
1923-2013
Alka Mae Music George, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and child of God, went home to be with her Lord and husband Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013. She was born June 9, 1923, in Johnson County, a daughter of the late Clayton “Buck” Music and Rose Powers Music.
Alka was a faithful member of Free Will Baptist Church in Holden, W. Va., and Kissimee, Fla. She was employed at the Guyan Valley Hospital in Logan, W. Va., until she and her husband, H. J. “Jack” George retired to St. Cloud, Fla.
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband, Hobert Jackson “Jack” George; one sister, Marie Wells; two brothers, Arlie Music and Clyde Music; one grandson, Tracy Walker George.
Alka is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Glen Browning of Brookville, Ohio; four sons, Thomas J. George of Wayne, W. Va., Bill J. George and wife, Suzanne, of Round Rock, Texas, Dan R. George and wife Avonelle, of Cypress, Texas, and Gary L. George of Georgetown; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; two sisters and their husbands, Gertrude and John Wilkins of Bellbrook, Ohio, and Eloise and Leonard Davis of Meally; two brothers and their wives, Ted and Jo Ann Music of Meally, and Paul B. and Lou Music of Springboro, Ohio; and hundreds of friends and her church family.
Alka was a wonderful mother whose love for her children was endless. No words can adequately express how she will be missed, but her love will stay in our hears forever. The family would like to give special thanks to the Just Like Home and Hospice staffs for their loving care.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville, who is in charge of the arrangements.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel by her son, Rev. Dan R. George. Burial will follow in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton Foundation, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420-1890.
