Linda Kay Adams Banks
1949-2011
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, 12 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Paintsville, for Linda Kay Adams Banks, 61, of Knoxville, Tenn., formerly of Van Lear, who passed away Sunday, Sept. 25.
Mrs. Banks was born Nov. 20, 1949, daughter of Gwennith LeMaster Adams of Van Lear and the late Lee Ray Adams.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Shawn Dewayne King; and one sister, Frances Lee Adams.
Surviving in addition to her mother are, her husband, Roger Lee Banks of Knoxville; one son, LTC David Ray (Christin) King of Yorktown, Va.; one step-son, Trevor Lee Banks of Columbus; one sister, Gwen (John) Burkholder of Frankfort; one brother, Orin Ray Adams of Van Lear; and three grandsons.
Visitation will be Sat., Oct 1, 10 a.m.- 12 p.m at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Park cemetery at Staffordsville.
Arrangements under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Russell Glen ‘Rusty’ Whitaker
1951-2011
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Russell Glen “Rusty” Whitaker, 59, of Cambridge, Mich., who passed away Thursday, Sept. 22.
Mr. Whitaker was born Dec. 7, 1951 in Hampton, Va., son of Joetta Williams Whitaker and the late Russell Whitaker. He was a restaurant owner and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Surviving in addition to his mother are, three sons, Rusty Whitaker II, Brian (Amy) Whitaker, and Scott (Amanda) Whitaker; one sister, Jennifer (Steven) Burchett; one brother, Roger (Colleen) Whitaker; one sister, Kelli Jo Campbell; and four grandchildren; and long-time companion and fianceé, Dee Giles.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Williams Family cemetery at Swamp Branch.
Arrangements under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

William ‘Bill’ Turner
1924-2011
Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 25, 1 p.m. at the Preston Funeral Chapel for William “BIll” Turner, 87, of Tutor Key, who passed away Thursday, Sept. 22 at his residence.
Mr. Turner was born June 23, 1924 in Crockettsville, son of the late William and Ollie May Turner. He was retired from the Ky. Dept. of Highways and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel Brown Turner of Tutor Key; four daughters, Cynthia Chapman of Jackson, Debra Hall of Pikeville, Jennifer Turner of Lexington, and Pamela Brown of Panasoffkee, Fla.; two sisters, Eunice Scott and Edna Mae Turner, both of Jackson; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Harry Steven Noren, Mary Elizabeth Noren and William Anthony Scott, with burial in the Highland Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville.
Arrangements under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Charles Arthur ‘Charlie A.’ Lyons
1943-2011
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 16, 3 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Charles Arthur Lyons, 67, of Paintsville, who passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13 at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Lyons was born Nov. 17, 1943 in Johnson County, son of the late Bert and Margie Ward Lyons. He was a coal truck driver.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Mitchell and James Robert Lyons; and one niece, Jill Ann Buckley.
Surviving are his wife, Claudia Spradlin Lyons of Paintsville; one son, Charles W. Lyons of Owingsville; two daughters, Robin Ratliff of Staffordsville, and Claudia Sue Johnson of Paris; two brothers, Dennis Ray Lyons of Paintsville, and Lanny Keith Lyons of River; two sisters, Alberta Buckley of Toledo, Ohio, and Anna Bower of Greenwood, Ind.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The service was officiated by Jimmy Price and Gordon Ward, with burial in the Ward-Preston cemetery at River.
Arrangements under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Judy Ann Collins Griffin
1957-2011
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 22, 1:30 p.m. at the Riemann Family Funeral Home Chapel in Biloxi, Miss., for Judy Ann Collins Griffin, 54, of Perkinston, Miss., who passed away Monday, Sept. 19.
Mrs. Griffin was born Jan. 5, 1957 in Auxier, daughter of the late Willard and Ethel McKenzie Collins. She graduated from Prestonsburg High School and she served as a medic with the U.S. Army.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Eldon Russell Estepp and Larry Roger Collins; and one niece, Ann Hale.
Surviving are her husband, Roger Dale Griffin of Perkinston; two children, David (Jessica) Laboy of Wiggins, Miss., and Heather (Dan) Bankston of Perkinston; three step-children, Christopher, Jennifer, and Joshua; three sisters, Linda (James) Goble of Wiggins, Marty (James) Ward of West Van Lear, and Kay (Robert) Hale of Georgetown; and eight grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Biloxi National cemetery with military honors.
Arrangements under the direction of the Riemann Family Funeral Home of Biloxi.

Clifford Earl VanHoose
1920-2011
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 21, 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Clifford Earl VanHoose, 90, of Paintsville, who passed away Monday, Sept. 19 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Mr. VanHoose was born Dec. 2, 1920 in Johnson County, son of the late Earl H. and Phoebe Arnett VanHoose. He was a machinist in the coal industry; a U.S. Navy veteran; a member of the Tom’s Creek Free Will Baptist Church; a member of the Van Lear Masonic Lodge #56.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Preston VanHoose; and one infant sister, Roberta Virginia VanHoose.
Surviving are one son, David VanHoose of Flat Gap; two daughters, Cathy (Paul) Daniel of Wittensville, and Susan (Alan) McDaniel of London; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by James Kelly Caudill and Jerry Scott, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park cemetery at Staffordsville.

Wendell L. Ratliff
1940-2011
A private burial will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania for Wendell L. Ratliff, 70, of Upper Arlington, Ohio, who passed away Monday, Sept. 5.
Mr. Ratliff was born Nov. 10, 1940 in Paintsville, son of the late Kelce and Ernestine Frazier Ratliff. He was a graduate of Oil Springs High School, and a self-employed salesman/liquidator.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie Skaggs and Marlene Taylor; and one brother, Daniel Ratliff.
Surviving are his wife, Priscilla Newcomer Ratliff; two sons, Jason Kelse Ratliff of Upper Arlington, and Richard Neal (Jenine) Ratliff of Olive Hill; his aunt, Ruth Bayes of Dayton, Ohio; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Arrangements under the direction of the Schoedinger Northwest Chapel of Columbus, Ohio.

Alberta Blevins
1950-2011
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 20, 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Alberta Blevins, 61, of Hager Hill, who passed away Saturday, Sept. 17 in Lexington at the U.K. Markey Cancer Center.
Ms. Blevins was born May 12, 1950 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Albert and Flossie Hurt Blevins. She was a homemaker.
Surviving is one brother, Ray (Wilma) Blevins of Hager Hill.
The service was officiated by B. Joe Hill, with burial in the Delong Family cemetery at Hager Hill.
