Emma J. Gooch, 74, of Boneyville Road, Stanford, died Saturday at her home after an illness. Born May 4, 1925, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Georgia Stewart. She was a homemaker and a member of Boneyville Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, John "J.T." Gooch; three daughters, Margaret Brown, Trudy Gooch and Sandra Hill, all of Stanford; a son, Glenn Gooch of Lexington; two sisters, Margaret Beasley and Mary E. Penman, both of Stanford; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Boneyville Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Coulter. Burial will be in Milton Simpson Cemetery, Lincoln County. Pallbearers will be Oliver Miller Jr., James Suter, O'Neith Fitzgerald, William Brown, Harry Gooch and Robert Coulter. Honorary pallbearers are Eugene Jones, Charles Logan, Charles Cloyd, Herbert and Oheodore Simpson, and George Reid. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. CRAB ORCHARD -- John Daniel Braley, 82, of Ky. 39, died Sunday at his home. Born Feb. 15, 1915, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Ralph E. and Nora Denny Braley. He was a retired farmer and carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Mary Margaret Brown Braley of Crab Orchard; three sons, Edwin H. Braley, Dwight D. Braley and Daniel H. Braley, all of Crab Orchard; two brothers, Thomas Braley and Foster Braley, both of Cincinnati; two sisters, Josie Gooch of Somerset and Alberta Rogers of Blanchester, Ohio; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Forest W. Braley. Services will be 2 p.m. Wed-nesday at Mount Zion Church of Christ Cemetery by the Rev. Ernie Arnold. Burial will be in the church cemetery. CRAB ORCHARD -- Jewell Marie Price Lunsford, 89, of Walnut Street, died Sunday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born Aug. 4, 1910, in Rockcastle County, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Dovie Wilson Price. She was a retired employee of Palm Beach Co., and a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church. She was the widow of William A. Lunsford. Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie A. Bunch of Crab Orchard; a son, Melvin E. Lunsford of Crab Orchard; a sister, Ina Peel of Crab Orchard; two brothers, Gaines and Hobert Price, both of Crab Orchard; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin F. Lunsford. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home by Cecil Roundtree. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery. LANCASTER -- Elby Maupin, 92, of Richmond Road, died Sunday at Fort Logan Hospital. Born Aug. 22, 1907, in Jackson County, he was a son of the late Hiram and Mary Evelyn Lake Maupin. He was a retired farmer and a member of Hyattsville Baptist Church. He was the widower of Anna Mae Kidd Maupin. Survivors include two sons, Buddy Maupin of Lancaster and Paul Maupin of Melville, Ohio; four daughters, Dora M. Lane of Junction City, Kathy Lane of Lancaster, and Barbara Cornelison and Evelyn Browning, both of Richmond; a brother, John Maupin of Stanford; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Rev. Everett Priddy. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery. Michelle Barnes, longtime Advocate employee, dies
LANCASTER -- Services for Michelle Booth Barnes, 40, of Hurt Lane, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Revs. Mel Bonner and Bobby Brookes. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery. She died early Monday at Garrard County Memorial Hospital of an apparent heart attack. Barnes had worked in the composing department of The Advocate-Messenger for 20 years. "Michelle was a gem. She was cheerful, dedicated, reliable and an integral member of a team who will sorely miss her," said Mary Schurz, editor and publisher of the Advocate. Co-workers remember her homemade fudge, her fondness for anything featuring Mickey Mouse, and her seasonal vests, especially those for Halloween and Christmas. Born Nov. 1, 1958, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of Wanda Bolton Booth of Lancaster and the late Ted Booth. She was a member of Drakes Creek Baptist Church in Preachersville. Other survivors include her husband, Nicki Barnes; two sons, Scott and Bradley M. Barnes, both at home; and a daughter, Jennifer M. Barnes, also at home; Michael Pruett, who lives with the family; and a twin brother, Mitchell Booth of Preachersville. Pallbearers will be Marty and Brad Record, Michael Pruett, Kenneth Yocum, Dale Wells and Larry Barnes. Frank M. Preston
Graveside services for Frank M. Preston, 77, of Jean Drive, will be 12:30 Wednesday at Bellevue Cemetery by the Revs. Earnest Martin and Douglas Wesley. He died Sunday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 12, 1921, in Danville, she was a son of the late Lee and Mary Baker Preston. He was a painting contractor and a retired employee of Eastern State Hospital after 20 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was a former deacon. He also was a world record holder in the Abbott Special in 1965, and a graduate of Danville High School. Survivors include his wife, Bessie Whitt Preston; and a sister, Helen P. Weissinger of Lexington. Pallbearers will be James Henderson, Crawford Burdette, J.D. Westerfield, Kirtley Settles, Don Helton and Zay Case.
