Bobby Jean Johnson

GREENVILLE - Bobby Jean Johnson, 71, of Greenville died October 7, 2002 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a short illness.
Born June 1, 1931 in Muhlenberg County, she was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was a member of Greenville VFW Post 5478 Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Billy Johnson of Greenville; one son, David Johnson of Greenville; two grandchildren, Amy Adkins of Greenville and Brent Johnson of Elizabethtown; one great grandson, Logan Adkins of Greenville; and one sister, Maudine Lovell of Greenville.
Visitation is from 5 - 8 p.m. at Gary’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 8 and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 9 at 1 p.m. at Gary’s Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Gwaltney officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery, Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James Buck Dorris

DUNMOR ­ James Buck Dorris, 89, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003 at his home.
Born in Rochester, Feb. 27, 1914 to the late Della Knight and Theron Dorris, he was a member of Dunmor Baptist Church and Hazel Creek Masonic Lodge 842 F & AM. He was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mildred (Simmons) Dorris; a daughter, Joetta Dempsey of Bowling Green; three sisters, Louise Tolbert of Dunmor, Dortha Tucker of Newburg, Ind., and Lola Coe of Henderson; two brothers, Charles Dorris of Dunmor and Freeman Dorris of Bowling Green; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sept. 28 at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg with the Rev. Carl Dugger and the Rev. Jeremy Whitney officiating. Burial followed in Dunmor Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Dunmor Baptist Church and Dunmor Cemetery.

Anna Lou Whitson

SUN CITY, ARIZ. ­ Anna Lou “Granny Ann” Whitson, 84, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 in Freedom Plaza.
Born in Persia, Tenn. on Jan. 23, 1919 to the late Thomas Frederick and Willie Shepherd, she retired from Kentucky Utilities in 1982. She is preceded in death by her husband, W. Averitt Whitson in 1962.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Whitson Borden of Sun City, Ariz.; a son, William Frederick Whitson of Tallahassee, Fla.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Oct. 3 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary McAbee officiating. Burial followed in Old Jackson Cemetery in Greenville.

Mary Azeline Stewart

BREMEN ­ Mary Azeline Stewart, 84, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003 at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Jan. 7, 1919, she was a retired cook at Bremen Elementary School and a member of Fairview Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Stewart and three sons, Ricky, Ronnie and Eddie Stewart.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry Sparks of Owensboro, Larry Stewart and James Stewart, both of Bremen; two brothers, J.W. Gish of Bremen and William Gish of Owensboro; four grandchildren, Tina Palmer, Tracy Sparks, Brandi Corbin, and Kristen Stewart; a step-grandchild, Leah Shemwell; and five great-grandchildren, Rachael Sparks, Makayla Sparks, Shelby Sparks, Logan Palmer and Colton Shemwell.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Oct. 2 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. James Talley and the Rev. Danny Greene officiating. Burial followed in Gish Cemetery in Bremen.

Avanell Stovall

PADUCAH ­ Avanell Stovall, 79, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
Born in Muhlenberg County, March 30, 1924, to the late Roscoe Forehand and Eartha Dell Roeark Forehand, she was a homemaker and a member of the 32nd Street Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyce H. Stovall, a sister and a grandson.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Brewer and Joyce Jenkins, both of Paducah; and a sister, Laura Bell Shanks of Muhlenberg County.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Oct. 4 at Tucker Funeral Home with Mr. Glenn Seaton officiating. Burial followed in Corley Chapel Cemetery in Graham.

Darrell Ray Curry

GREENVILLE ­ Darrell Ray Curry, 72, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Webster County, May 3, 1931, to the late Joe and Pearl Martin Curry, he graduated from Wheatcroft High School, the Kentucky State Police Academy and attended Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served as M.P. during the Korean War. He retired from the Kentucky State Police after 28 years of service and retired as Chief of Police of Greenville after 12 years of service. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville and V.F.W. Post 5478. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Isaacson and a brother, Drexel Curry.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Doris Johnson Curry; two sons, Mark (Regina) Curry and Jeffrey Curry, both of Greenville; a daughter, Susan (David) Ferguson, also of Greenville; two brothers, Douglas Curry of Montrose, Mich. and Dennis Curry of Greenville; two sisters, Juanita Witherspoon of Henderson and Eva Bowles of Madisonville; four grandchildren, Jason and Christina Curry and Derek and Grant Ferguson, all at home.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Oct. 3 at Second Baptist Church with Dr. Ray England and the Rev. Bob Thurman officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. The family requests that memorial contributions are made to the American Cancer Society, The Kentucky Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Second Baptist Church building fund. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rosie Albin Case

ZEELAND, MICH. ­ Rosie Albin Case, 90, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 at Haven Park Christian Nursing Home.
Born in Tenn., Aug. 23, 1913, she was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Kehrwrecker of Casa Grande, Ariz. and Mary Williams of Holland, Mich.; three sons, Thomas Albin of Holland, Mich., Kenneth Albin of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Earl Wayne Albin of Zeeland, Mich.; a sister, Essie Pierce of Central City; a brother, Ray Baize of Central City; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Oct. 4 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Nathan Baize officiating. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery in Moorman.

Daisy Pearl Driskill

Daisy Pearl Driskill died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 25, 1912, she was a homemaker and a member of Nelson Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include a stepson, Bobby Driskill of Evansville; two stepdaughters, Joyce Harper of Lewisburg and Betty Latham of Louisville; one granddaughter, Jenny Casebier of Central City; 11 step-grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Oct. 5 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. T.H. Davis officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Raymond Steele

EVANSVILLE ­ Raymond Steele, 74, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
Born in Beech Creek, he was a retired brick mason.
Survivors include a son, Bruce Steele of Flagstaff, Ariz.; three daughters, Mary Ann Walkinshaw and Ellen Marie Epling, both of Tucson, Ariz., and Kim Steele of Kelin, Texas; three brothers, John P. Steele of Rosewood, Billy O. Steele of Louisville, and Floyd Steele of Beechmont; five sisters, Dorothy N. Burden of Casa Grande, Ariz., Stella Dwyer of Beech Creek, Hilda Staples of Ennis, and Emma Garrett and Wanda Long, both of Greenville; and seven grandchildren.
Private funeral services were held on Oct. 2 at McFarland Funeral Home in Owensboro.

Dorothy Nell Yonts

GREENVILLE ­ Dorothy Nell Yonts, 82, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003 in Sparks Nursing Home in Central City after a short illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, June 18, 1921 to the late Daniel C. Vincent and Dovie Mae Stobaugh Vincent, she was a retired owner of Evergreen Florist after 17 years and a hotel and motel manager for seven years. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Yonts, in 1991, three sisters, Mary Agnes Bowers, Pauline Vincent, and Margie Jennings Chupka.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph Yonts and Daniel Yonts, both of Greenville; a daughter, Jeanie Price of Greenville; a sister, Wilma Whitlow of Central City; three grandchildren, Daren Yonts of Bowling Green, Chloe Jean Munday of Graham, and Loren Thomas Yonts of Greenville; two step-grandchildren, Christy Barnett of Louisville, and Tony Gossett of Central City; three great-grandchildren, Shelbi Anne Munday, Aaron Michael Munday, and Austin Tyler Yonts; six step-great grandchildren, Damien Reed, Noah Reed, Katie Barnett, Cassie Barnett, Courtney Gossett, and Hannah Gossett; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Oct. 7 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. George Thompson officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.

Ava Nell Chaney

GRAHAM ­ Ava Nell Chaney, 71, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003 in Belle Meade Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Nov. 16, 1931, to the late Dan DeArmond and Nora Kathleen Toomey DeArmond, she and her husband owned the Chat and Chew Restaurant in Greenville for 17 years. She was a member of Corley Chapel General Baptist Church in Graham. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Chaney in 1971.
Survivors include a son, Terry (Anne) Chaney of Graham; two sisters, Zelma Webb of Russellville, and Sue Barrow of Lewisburg; a brother, Don DeArmond of Henderson, Texas; two grandchildren, Terri Ann (John) Cox of Greenville, and Neil Alan (Anita) Chaney of Graham; five great-grandchildren, Leah Michelle Chaney, Sarah Catherine Cox, Andrew Malcolm Chaney, Elizabeth Morgan Cox, and baby boy Chaney; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m., Oct. 7 at Unity Cemetery in Graham with the Rev. Barry Noe officiating. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Brenda Gail Brown

GREENVILLE ­ Brenda Gail Brown, 50, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Aug. 1, 1953, she was a member of Richardson’s Chapel General Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Lee J. Brown; three sisters, Linda J. Dye of Lewisburg, Glenda C. Dulworth and Barbara J. Shoemake, both of Auburn; many nieces and nephews; and several great-nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Oct. 7 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. T.H. Davis officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Todd County.

Benjamin Ellis Wells, Sr.

GREENVILLE ­ Benjamin Ellis Wells, Sr., 71, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Oct. 5, 1932, to the late Freddie Earl Wells and Cora Bell Walker Wells, he was a member of Iron Workers Local #103 in Evansville and retired in 1989 after 30 years of service as an iron worker. He was preceded in death by his son Benjamin Ellis Wells, Jr. in 1980.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Shirley Ann Hammond Wells; a son, John Earl Wells of Lexington; a daughter, Lisa Ann Volk of Owensboro; two brothers, Carl Wells of Greenville and Lindel Wells of Evansville; a sister, Esther Cook of Louisville; and four grandchildren, Kristin Wells, Kelsey Volk, Samantha Volk and Kasey Noffsinger.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Oct. 8 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Mr. Jeff Jenkins and Larry Perkins officiating. Burial will follow in Greens Chapel Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Tues. Oct. 7 and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Linda Kay Ashworth

BEECHMONT ­ Linda Kay Ashworth, 49, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003 at her residence.
Born in Paducah, Nov. 4, 1953, to the late Wilson and Mary Jane Ashworth, she was a school teacher for the Muhlenberg County Board of Education. She was a member of Livermore General Baptist Church and the Kentucky Education Association.
Survivors include two daughters, Christina (Clay) Taylor of Lexington and Kelley (David) Hobgood of Beechmont; two sisters, Gloria Day of Belton and Barbara Moore of Beechmont; two nephews and one niece.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Oct. 8 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Day and the Rev. Rick Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be held at 6 p.m., Oct. 7.

Mildred Lorene Vaughan

Mildred Lorene Vaughan, 94, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005 at her residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 7, 1910, she was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morton Vaughan and a son, Harold Vaughan.
Survivors include two grandsons, Bryan Vaughan of Waterford, Mich. and David Vaughan of Romulus, Mich.; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Lowery officiating. Burial followed in Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Bremen.
