Kentucky Marriage Records by County

Noel Pierce, 78, Russell Springs, KY, passed away Monday, May 26, 2003 at the Taylor County Hospital. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Feathership Church of God. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in WWII. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Pierce, Russell Springs, KY; two sons, Roger Pierce, Whitley City, KY and Darrell Pierce, Russell Springs, KY; and one step son, James Barnes, Elkhorn, KY; one brother, Lilburn Pierce, Anderson, IN; and two sisters, Myrtle Hadley and Ruth Hart, both of Mt. Washington, KY; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by one son, William Pierce. Funeral services were Thursday, May 29, 2003 in the chapel of Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Jessie Rogers officiating. Interment was in the Grider Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roland Stapp, Joe Garner, Scott Pierce, Bo Meek, Joseph Seelye, Sr. and Joseph Seelye, Jr. Bernard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Frances Phillips, 64, Columbia, S.C. (formerly of Russell Springs) passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at the Lexington Medical Center, Columbia, S.C. She attended Temple Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Jerry Phillips, Las Vegas, Neveda and Byron (Susan) Phillips, Columbia, S.C.; two daughters, Sherry (Andy) Gardner, Columbia, S.C. and Mendy Meeks, Irmo, S.C.; mother, Grace Taylor Ellis, Russell Springs, KY; one brother, Marvin (Jane)Ellis, Campbellsville, KY; two sisters, Ethel (Don) Myer, Fort Wayne, IN and Diana (Bob) Ford, Russell Springs, KY; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sonya Bowie and a brother, Joe Ellis. Funeral services were Sunday, August 31, 2003 in the chapel of Greenlawn Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Slater officiating. Interment was in the Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia, S.C. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice, 1175 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia, 29169. This obituary courtesy of Bernard Funeral Home.

Alma Irene Popplewell, 98, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at the Russell County Hospital. She was a retired schoolteacher and a member of the Jamestown Christian Church. She is survived by two sons, Howard Kent (Gloria) Popplewell, Jamestown, KY and William Dean (Carolyn) Popplewell, Louisville, KY; one brother, George W. McClure, Jamestown, KY; and four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services were Thursday, January 2, 2003 in the chapel of H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel with Bro. Tony Stephens officiating. Interment was in the Ridgecrest Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Jamestown Christian Church. H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Seth Wade Jr., 74, Edinburg, TX, passed away Friday, September 5, 2003 in Edinburg, TX. He was a retired educator of Pan American University in Edinburg, TX after 35 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Seth I. Wade and Ella Jasper Wade of the Windsor Community of Russell County. Survivors include one son, Jon Wade, Houston, TX; one daughter, Karen Wade, Dallas, TX, one step-son, Jeff of Tennessee; one brother, Frank Wade, Russell Springs, KY; and one sister, Mildred Wade Humble, Science Hill, KY. Seth Jr. graduated from the old Russell Springs High School in 1948 and from University of Kentucky in 1952. He also attended Ohio State University and the University of Florida. He was also a U.S. Army veteran. He settled in Edinburg some 40 years ago and remained there until his death and wished to remain there after his death.

Cindy Lou Weaver, 38, Russell Springs, KY, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2003 at the Russell County Hospital. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Gregory Weaver, Russell Springs, KY; one son, Gregory Weaver, Jr. Russell Springs, KY; one daughter, Brenda Lee Weaver, Russell Springs, KY; her mother, Evalee Heitz, Anderson, IN; three brothers, Rickey Brown, Indianapolis, IN, Edward Brown, Russell Springs, KY, and Terry Brown, Indianapolis, IN; three sisters, Geneva Rhinehart, Indianapolis, IN, Vickie Etchison, Anderson, IN, and Carol Bishop, Russell Springs, KY. Funeral services were Tuesday, October 14, 2003 in the chapel of Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. James Small officiating. Bernard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Shirley Wells, 89, Jamestown, KY passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at the Russell County Hospital. He was a retired tool and die maker. He is survived by two daughters, Cordella Voils, Russell Springs, KY and Barbara Appleby, Jamestown, KY; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Thursday, April 24, 2003 in the chapel of H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel with Bro. Phillip Miller officiating. Interment was in the Jamestown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Benny Ball, Derrick Blankenship, James Bell, Donnie Mays, Marty Blankenship and Ringo. H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Adelma Tarter, 69, Russell Springs, KY passed away Sunday, March 9, 2003 at the Russell County Hospital. He was the owner and operator of Tarter’s Grocery in the Eli Community and a member of the Coffey’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He was the son of the late Chrisman Vanwinkle and Della Dunbar Tarter. He is survived by one son, Forest Wayne Tarter, Russell Springs, KY; one daughter, Nucezia Nicole Tarter, Russell Springs, KY; one brother, James Tarter, Russell Springs, KY; a sister, Signa Smith, Liberty, KY; and a grandson, Chrisman Tarter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Roger Tarter, and one sister, Vivian Tarter. Funeral services were Tuesday, March 11, 2003 in the chapel of the Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Elvis Tucker officiating. Special music was provided by Linda McGowan. Interment was in the Coffey’s Chapel Cemetery. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of a donation to the Coffey’s Chapel United Methodist Cemetery Fund. Bernard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
